• Can a DSL splitter be used in place of a micro filter

  I don't want to do the rewiring required to put a splitter at the demarcation point, but we don't have DSL micro filters available here. Can I use two splitters as filters for the modem and the phone? Thanks!

• PC hangs and reboots from time to time

  Hello, I have a very strange problem: Since I have my new PC, I have always had problems with it. From time to time the computer freezes for some seconds and suddendly reboots by itself. I've had this problem since Ubuntu 9.10. The same with 10.04 and 10.10. That's why I don't think it's a software failure because the problem persist too long. It doesn't have anything to do with what I'm doing at this time. Sometimes I listen to music, sometimes I only use Firefox, sometimes I'm running 2 or 3 VMs, sometimes I watch DVD. So it's not isolatable. I could freeze once a day or once a week. I put the PC to the vendor twice(!). The first time they changed my power supply but the problem persisted. The second time they told me that they made some heavy performance tests 50 hours long but they didn't find anything. (How can that be that I have daily freezes with normal usage). The vendor didn't check the hard discs because they used their own disc with Windows. (So they never checked the Linux installation). Yesterday I made some intensive hard disc scans with "SMART" but no errors were found. I ran memtest for 3 times but no errors found. I already had this problem in my old flat, so I doubt that I has something to do with current fluctuation. I already tried another electrical socket and changed to connector strip but the problem persists. At the moment I removed 2 of the RAMs (2x 2GB). In all I have 6GB, 2x2GB and 2x1GB. Could this difference maybe be a problem? Here is a list of my components. I hope that anybody find something I didn't think about yet. • Full screen flash lags on Windows 7

  I have been experiencing an issue since I've up upgraded to Windows 7 where all flash videos have horrible frame rates when run in full screen mode. I have tried multiple browsers and i have the latest version of flash and video drivers. I have tried re-installing flash and disabling hardware acceleration. The problem occurs on youtube and hulu. This is a clean install on a Core 2 duo with 4GB RAM and an Nvidia 8400M GS.

  I have an old madCatz racing wheel for the playstation 2. The gas and brake pedals are connected to the wheel by a serial port. I just bought a usb racing wheel for the PC but it lacks pedals so I wanted to see if I could get these old madCatz working. I just installed the serial port in my motherboard, but now I have a problem with software. Nothing will recognize the pedal. I was wondering if there are any programs or drivers out there that will allow me to set the pedals up to work. Any advice would be appreciated!

  We are sending routes to Mappoint 2013 from our application using an access database. It seems to happen with Mappoint 2010 and 2011 also. It doesn't happen on all of our clients either and it happens randomly on those who it does happen.   I'd like to know if it will work: I have my domain and I´m serving a webpage in a nginx to the internet, but if I type my domain in my laptop inside LAN I access to my modem/router configuration, I cannot access to the web server unless I type the IP address. I would like to add a Bind server after the modem/router - (port forward, ports 80 and 5060), if the request is www.mydomain.com bind should resolve the nginx IP address and serve it, and if it is a voip request should address to the voip server and if I'd like to access to the website from inside LAN I'd like to type mydomain.com. Could I do it with this configuration? Do I need something else? Thanks in advace!

• Disable header/footer printing from Chrome

  The Chrome browser doesn't have any settings for changing or disabling header and footer data that gets printed when you go File Print. Apparently this is being developed but until it is does anyone know how to disable this in Windows XP. Chrome on the Mac and Ubuntu doesn't do it so I assume it is down to a system setting that by default doesn't print header/footer information unless software over-rides this?

• What features does enabling ACPI 2.0 support in BIOS enable?

  So I was booting up my box and for some odd reason my BIOS had lost settings (again), thus resetting everything to defaults. I was digging around making sure things were configured to my liking and noticed the option to enable ACPI 2.0 support. It was disabled by default but I was wondering: Do I need ACPI 2.0 support? Motherboard is ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe. I should also note that I primarily use Windows-7.

  To speed up my compyuter use I'm trying to use as many hotkeys as possible. But because I'm working in many applications it is really hard to remember all those shortcuts. I'm looking for a program that looks at what application is currently in use by me, and displays a list of possible hotkeys I want to use. Example: I'm writing a document in Word, and the utility program shows a list of hotkeys I could use in Word. With such a program I could learn the shortcut keys much faster. Does such a utility exist?

• Windows 7 detects my 1 TB disk as a disk with only 31 MB space

  I've added another 1 TB Western Digital disk on my computer (there is a disk with 250 GB already), and after booting to Windows 7, it recognise the disk, but in the Disk Management panel, it says the disk has only 31 MB TOTAL space, so is what it shows in the EVEREST information. And when I rebooted the computer and entered BIOS, it said the new disk has 0 MB disk capacity. Is there any way to fix this problem?

Manually executing the rsync command in the terminal yields the expected result. I’m fairly sure that the job was registered correctly because if I try to start a non-existing job, I get an error message (which I didn’t get in the above command). What did I do wrong?

• Changing Windows Media Center StartRecording Task Scheduler options

  Hi, I'm experiencing some occasional crashes waking from sleep and I believe it may be related to the Corsair SSD F40GB2 as my boot disk...or the new Ceton tuner I recently installed... I dunno what the real problem is as I can't reproduce the problem manually. I read somewhere that I should not allow the hard disks to sleep...so I'm trying that in the meantime... At any rate, I don't really care that the computer crashes so long as WMC will start recording the task as soon as possible...the task is scheduled to wake the computer 5 minutes before the recording starts. I noticed that there is a StartRecording param in the Media Center folder in Task Scheduler. There is an option (currently unchecked) that will retry a failed task. I would like to know if there is a way to enable that checkbox. My hope is that if my PC crashes when waking up for this task, that after it reboots the task will trigger again and start recording. • Chrome: Saved username/password filled in incognito mode

  If I open an incognito window in Google Chrome and go to a webpage where Chrome has a saved username and password from (for example the login form on http://gmail.com), I see that my username and password are automatically filled in. Does that mean that I am not really incognito? Can the website see my username even if I don't explicitly log in? Or is there some mechanism behind the scenes that prevents the webpage from grabbing auto-filled values unless I actually log in? Clarification: Stored usernames (and passwords) are a lot like cookies: your unique identifier linked to a certain site, stored locally in your browser, available to the site when you open it. When you go incognito you ask your browser not to identify you to the sites you visit. It does that by (among other things) not exposing its cookies. Exposing the stored username in this mode does not make sense to me (but maybe I'm missing something...).
