• ubuntu 3D is slow on Nvidia driver,any help?

  I have installed ubuntu 12.04 and it's very slow in moving any windows and in 3d animation and the problem is from the Nvidia driver and when I switched to the Ubuntu 2d it works fine but without the 3d animations in ubuntu 3d so this make me remove ubuntu until the yfix this problem so , have they fixed this problem or not , If not , is there any solution to enable the 3d animation ((I am a new user to ubuntu and medium experienced ,so please I don't want complexed answer :)

• Garbled text in Screen [closed]

  The graphical Interface in my system is garbled with some text. At the beginning I thought it was due to java and tomcat that I installed. But after removing java and tomcat, it is still the same. I am using ubuntu server and i have installed xfce desktop environment with oboard softkey I have added my dmesg output to this message. What is the problem here. I am not able to figure it out.   Is there a jdbc driver for SQL Server that can search for database instances on network? Just wanting to emulate "OSQL -L" from the JDBC driver. Dont want to have to call OSQL from JNI or something. I also don't want to have to write my own code for scanning a UDP port. I want my Java application to be able to search for live SQL Servers and prompt me with a list of available servers. Isn't this a reasonable expectation for a JDBC driver? OSQL.exe can do it and so why not the JDBC driver?

My web application uses Maven + Spring and I'm getting the dataSource using Spring jndi features. I'm trying to bypass TOMCAT old ojdbc14 driver with a newer one (ojdbc14 10.2.0.4.0). I've tried putting the jars in the WEB-INF/lib folder as a project dependency, but it doesn't work the application keeps using the old oracle driver that is in the TOMCAT folder. I'm trying to bypass the TOMCAT oracle driver because I cannot update it to the newest version because there are lots of other projects using it. Does anyone have a clue?

  I just installed Windows 8 Pro OEM 64-bit (clean install) and it won't properly recognize my graphics adapter. When I installed Win8, it automatically installed the BasicDisplay.sys driver dated 6/21/2006. 6.2.9200.16384 (win8_rtm.120725-1247). Hardware - Mobo:MSi G41M-P33 Combo CPU:Intel CoreDuo 6600 Graphics:NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT *OS* - Windows 8 Pro 64-bit OEM The graphics adapter worked fine in Windows XP. The PC is a generic box, bought locally and its mobo failed recently, so I replaced it with the G41M. Microsoft wouldn't let me re-activate Windows XP with a different mobo, so I installed Win8, which appears to work except as described next. Win8 only partially recognizes the graphics adapter and won't allow NVIDIA latest driver installer to see that it's an NVIDIA card. As a result, OpenGL doesn't work, and this is needed by the software I most use. Other than that the graphics look OK. When I say 'partially recognizes', I mean that via the Control Panel, I can see that the adapter is described as NVIDIA, but the driver remains stuck at Microsoft Basic Display Adapter no matter what I try, including "Update driver..." in adapter properties. System Video Memory: 0 MB Shared System Memory: 256 MB And Control Panel Device Manager Display adapters just shows Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. No other graphics adapter, and no unknown device or yellow question mark. What I have tried so far: 1. Cleared CMOS and reset. Updated BIOS and all mobo drivers as follows: 1st I used Driver Reviver to see if any driver updates were required. It found some but I didn't use that to get the drivers. Then I switched to MSi's own mobo driver utility Live Update 5. This also showed the board needed to update several so I used it to fetch the new drivers. After that it showed that everything was up to date and I checked with Driver Reviver again, which also reported no drivers now needed updating. Rebooted. Went to the NVIDIA site to get the latest graphics adapter driver. Their auto-detect "Option 2: Automatically find drivers for my NVIDIA products" said "The NVIDIA Smart Scan was unable to evaluate your system hardware. Please use Option 1 to manually find drivers for your NVIDIA products." So I downloaded 310.70-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-international-whql.exe, which lists 9400 GT under supported products, but when I run it, it says: "NVIDIA Installer cannot continue This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware." Connected the display to the on-board Intel graphics (G41 Intel Express), removed the NVIDIA card and rebooted, changed to internal graphics in CMOS. Again it installs the MS Basic Display Adapter, and can't properly run my s/w that needs OpenGL. It runs on other machines with Intel Express graphics (WinXP and 7) Shut down and pulled out the power cord. Held start button to discharge all capacitors. Removed and re-inserted NVIDIA adapter in PCI-E slot and made sure properly seated. Connected the monitor to the card, screwed plug to socket. Reconnected power cord. Started and checked in BIOS that Primary Graphics Adapter was set to PCI-E. Started Windows. Uninstalled MS Basic Display Adapter in Device Manager. Screen blanks briefly, reappears. No Graphics adapter entry was then visible in Device Manager. Restarted PC. MS Basic Display Adapter Visible again in Device Manager. Clicked in Device Manager View Show hidden devices. No other graphics adapter appears, no unknown devices. Rebooted. Tried Scan for Hardware changes. None detected. Tried right-click on MS Basic Display Adapter Properties Driver Update Driver... Search automatically. It replied that it had determined driver was up to date. I checked that there were no graphic driver-related entries in Programs and Features that I could delete (none). Searched for any other drivers with nvidia in their name and deleted them, just keeping the 306.97 installer exe file. Did a Windows Update. Ran GPU-Z which shows (main items): Microsoft Basic Display Adapter GPU G72 BIOS 5.72.22.76.88 Device ID 10DE - 01D5 DDR2 Bus Width 32 Bit Memory size 64MB Driver Version nvlddmkm 6.2.9200.16384 (ForceWare 0.00) / Win8 64 NVIDIA SLI Unknown in the drop-down at the foot, "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" is the only option If I swap hard disks in that machine to one with a Ubuntu 10.4 installation (originally installed on the same PC), lspci shows "VGA compatible controller as NVIDIA Corporation Device 01d5 (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])" and "kernel driver in use: nvidia" I'm out of ideas for new things to try and would be really grateful of suggestions. I would like to use a wireless-n router (D-Link DIR-655, that I received for free) with it in order to take advantage of the faster wifi.   My friend having problems with her laptop and I am trying to help her via SMS. She can't get her laptop connected to the internet via the Ethernet connection and there is no WiFi in the area. Could it be because her WiFi is switch on, she is using an acer aspire. If she manually switches it off could that allow the ethernet connecttion to work? Or is it a missing driver?   Can Mac OS X be setup to automatically configure its Airport interface with a static IP address when connected to a Wifi network with a certain name, and on all other Wifi networks use DHCP? Currently I'm using the "Locations" feature of the "Network" section in System Preferences to manually switch between two IP address setups. I have a "my static IP" setup, and a default "DHCP" setup. However this requires entering System Preferences to change the Location drop-down each time when switching locations. Can this be automated? Preferably this would be done without third-party software.

• Can I create an Infrastructure access point from built-in WiFi (as opposed to Ad-Hoc) on Windows XP?

  I want to use my Windows XP laptop as an access point. What I am trying to achieve is possible under Windows 7 with a myriad of utilities, but the wireless driver stack was different before Windows 7 and those specific APIs don't exist on XP. The reason behind me wanting to do this is that I would like my Android phone to be able to connect via WiFi to a network that is only hard-wired (reverse tethering). Unfortunately, my Android device (Galaxy S Captivate) does not support ad-hoc networks without a serious amount of screwing around. Is it possible to create an "Infrastructure" network with my Dell Latitude D830's built-in WiFi - a "Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Card", which I am assuming is probably rebadged Broadcom, or is there some fundamental difference between a wireless adapter and an access point that would prevent this?

  Salve a tutti, possiedo un portatile HP Pavillion dv6 3110 con scheda video dedicata ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 da 1 Giga ed ho installato da poco Ubuntu 11.10 Versione 64 bit. Ho seguito molte guide su internet per installare i driver per la mia scheda video ma nessuna ha dato esito positivo. Nella finestra "driver aggiuntivi" sono riuscito ad installare i "Driver grafici fglrx proprietari ATI/AMD" ma dopo il riavvio non riesco ad utilizzare correttamente la scheda video. Mentre i "Driver grafici fglrx proprietari ATI/AMD (aggiornamenti post-release)" non me li fa proprio installare segnalando un errore che riporto di seguito "L'installazione di questo driver non è riuscita.Consultare i file di registro per maggiori informazioni: /var/log/jockey.log". Ho pensato allora di scaricare direttamente dal sito di AMD gli ultimi driver rilasciati attraverso il pacchetto "amd-driver-installer-12-3-x86.x86_64.run", l'ho lanciato, ho seguito il wizard di installazione, l'installazione viene completata, digito "sudo aticonfig --initial" per la configurazione iniziale, ma al riavvio del pc appaiono soltanto scritte su schermo nero con una serie di "OK" e qualche "FAIL". Ho provato questa procedura anche per le versioni precedenti dei driver, ma il risultato è sempre lo stesso. Sono disperato. Riuscirò mai ad utilizzare la mia scheda video?   I have a Netgear WNA1100 usb wifi adapter. I have installed Atheros driver from Forum Details (btw name of the file is ath9k_htc-installer.1.0.1-maverick-fixed.deb). I wish to make a setup like connectify(windows) on ubuntu, so that I can connect my phone wirelessly to my laptop via Netgear WNA1100 (behaving as AP) and eventually use internet via my wired lan. I have installed the above mentioned driver, hostapd and hostap-utils. Can someone please guide me how to achieve this setup? I will appreciate an example hostapd.conf file with a simple wpa_psk security setup. Please be detailed and descriptive with commands.   I have a problem with this configuration: Asus K55V, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Nvidia driver 304.51. I have remove the nouveau driver with: apt-get --purge remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau I installed the official nvidia driver (from www.nvidia.com) but when I reboot the PC the resolution of screen is only 640x480 and the monitor is resized. Mo solution at this problem if i change the xorg.conf. Now i have uninstall the nvidia driver and reinstall with sudo apt-get purge nvidia-current sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nvidia-current When I reboot the screen resolution and size is OK, but if I start nvidia-setting I received the message: You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. and with command: sudo lshw -c display | grep driver I received configuration: driver=i915 latency=0 This sound like the system is using the Intel card. When I launch command lspci | grep VGA the output is: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Ivy Bridge Graphics Controller (rev 09) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation Device 1058 (rev ff) And there is no /etc/X11/xorg.conf. • Wireless switch on Dell XT2 - strange behaviour of rfkill

  I have an Dell Latitude XT2 using an Intel WLAN card (lspci lists it as "Intel Corporation Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300") running Lubuntu 12.04 with recent updates. The laptop has a hardware WLAN switch. I have problems activating the WLAN when booting with the hardware switch set to "off". The situation is a bit confusing, unfortunately. rfkill lists two WLAN devices (though lspci only shows the Intel one). This is the situation when booting with the hardware switch set to "Off": 0: dell-wifi: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: yes Hard blocked: yes 1: dell-bluetooth: Bluetooth Soft blocked: yes Hard blocked: yes 2: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: yes Hard blocked: yes From some tests, I conclude WLAN is only activated when both, the dell-wifi and phy0, are unblocked by soft- and hardware. But I can only unblock dell-wifi after the hardware switch is set to "on". Procedure right from boot with hardware switch set to "Off": Soft-unblocking phy0 works as expected. Could be done by start-up script. sudo rfkill unblock 0: nothing happens. Soft block of dell-wifi not removed. Set the hardware switch to "on": phy0 gets its hard block removed. Still no WLAN. sudo rfkill unblock 0: both the soft and hard lock of dell-wifi are removed. WLAN is now active and works. sudo rfkill block 0: only adds the soft block as expected. WLAN goes off again. So, in order to activate WLAN, I have to use the hardware switch and afterwards (manually) run a script - that's a bit inconvenient. Does someone know a better solution? Maybe a daemon could help that listens to rfkill events to unblock dell-wifi after I have set the hardware switch to "on"? (sounds like another workaround) When booting with the hardware switch set to "On", nothing is blocked neither hard nor soft.

Preventing the Firewire-driver from loading once Windows have booted works as expected, but I've been unable to confirm whether this too will disable a Firewire-port exposed through a PCMCIA-card. My question is hence whether disabling the Firewire-driver will also prevent a Firewire-port exposed through a PCMCIA from functioning?

  I've bought this laptop "Dell Vostro 3700", having inside an Intel integrated graphic card and an Nvidia GeForce GT330M. Depending on energy saving mode it switches between the two video cards. When I try to update the video driver (now version 189.99 on Windows 7 64-bit) with that found on Nvidia site an error message say that it cannot find compatible graphic hardware.
