  • Concatenate and group multiple rows in Oracle

    - by user1693347
Suppose I have a table like this: NAME GROUP name1 groupA name2 groupB name5 groupC name4 groupA name3 groupC I'd like to have a result like this: GROUP NAMES groupA name1,name4 groupB name2 groupC name3,name5 If there were only one column in the table, I could concatenate the records by doing the following, but with grouping in the context, I really don't have much idea. Any suggestion is welcome, thanks in advance! Concatatenating one column table: SELECT names FROM (SELECT SYS_CONNECT_BY_PATH(names,' ') names, level FROM name_table START WITH names = (SELECT names FROM name_table WHERE rownum = 1) CONNECT BY PRIOR names < names ORDER BY level DESC) WHERE rownum = 1

  • Error 49 bad bind variable oracle forms

    - by mysticfalls
I would like to ask regarding this error... Error 49 at line 5, column 6 bad bind variable 'S_ORD.payment_type' Here is the code: DECLARE N NUMBER; v_credit S_CUSTOMER.credit_rating%type; BEGIN IF :S_ORD.payment_type = 'CREDIT' THEN SELECT credit_rating INTO v_credit FROM S_CUSTOMER WHERE :S_ORD.customer_id = id; IF v_credit NOT IN ('GOOD', 'EXCELLENT') THEN :S_ORD.payment_type:= 'CASH'; n:=SHOW_ALERT('Payment_Type_Alert'); END IF; END IF; END; I'm new to oracle forms so I'm not sure if I have a missing setup or anything. • ERROR: there is no parameter $1 when creating view

    - by idlemoments
When we try to create a view within a funcion we get ERROR: there is no parameter $1. This is the sample code. Begin CREATE VIEW artikelnr AS SELECT datum, 'uitgifte' as "type", CASE WHEN 'test'='test' THEN 0 END as "aantal ontvangen", aantal as "aantal uitgegeven" FROM uitgifteregel JOIN artikel ON artikel.artikelnr = new.artikelnr JOIN uitgifte ON uitgifte.uitgiftenr = uitgifteregel.uitgiftenr UNION SELECT datum, 'ontvangst' as "type", aantal as "aantal ontvangen" , CASE WHEN 'test'='test' THEN 0 END as "aantal uitgegeven" FROM ontvangstregel JOIN artikel ON artikel.artikelnr = new.artikelnr JOIN ontvangst ON ontvangst.ontvangstnr = ontvangstregel.ontvangstnr; Return new; end; When we replace new.artikelnr on line 7 with value 1 it works like it should, but the function needs to work with different artikelnr's. example line 7: JOIN artikel ON artikel.artikelnr = new.artikelnr Please point us in the right direction.

  • How do database servers decide which order to return rows without any "order by" statements?

    - by Chris
Kind of a whimsical question, always something I've wondered about and I figure knowing why it does what it does might deepen my understanding a bit. Let's say I do "SELECT TOP 10 * FROM TableName". In short timeframes, the same 10 rows come back, so it doesn't seem random. They weren't the first or last created. In my massive sample size of...one table, it isn't returning the min or max auto-incrementing primary key value. I also figure the problem gets more complex when taking joins into account. My database of choice is MSSQL, but I figure this might be an interesting question regardless of the platform.

  • Count, inner join

    - by Urosh
I have two tables: DRIVER (Driver_Id,First name,Last name,...) PARTICIPANT IN CAR ACCIDENT (Participant_Id,Driver_Id-foreign key,responsibility-yes or no,...) Now, I need to find out which driver participated in accident where responsibility is 'YES', and how many times. I did this: Select Driver_ID, COUNT (Participant.Driver_ID)as 'Number of accidents' from Participant in car accident where responsibility='YES' group by Driver_ID order by COUNT (Participant.Driver_ID) desc But, I need to add drivers first and last name from the first table(using inner join, I suppose). I don't know how, because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause. Please help :)

  • Fill data gaps without UNION

    - by Dave Jarvis
Problem There are data gaps that need to be filled, possibly using PARTITION BY. Query Statement The select statement reads as follows: SELECT count( r.incident_id ) AS incident_tally, r.severity_cd, r.incident_typ_cd FROM report_vw r GROUP BY r.severity_cd, r.incident_typ_cd ORDER BY r.severity_cd, r.incident_typ_cd Code Tables The severity codes and incident type codes are from: severity_vw incident_type_vw Actual Result Data 36 0 ENVIRONMENT 1 1 DISASTER 27 1 ENVIRONMENT 4 2 SAFETY 1 3 SAFETY Required Result Data 36 0 ENVIRONMENT 0 0 DISASTER 0 0 SAFETY 27 1 ENVIRONMENT 0 1 DISASTER 0 1 SAFETY 0 2 ENVIRONMENT 0 2 DISASTER 4 2 SAFETY 0 3 ENVIRONMENT 0 3 DISASTER 1 3 SAFETY Any ideas how to use PARTITION BY (or JOINs) to fill in the zero counts?

  • What is the best practise for relational database tables in mysql?

    - by George
Hi, I know, there is a lot of info on mysql out there. But I was not really able to find an answer to this specific and actually simple question: Let's say I have two tables: USERS (with many fields, e.g. name, street, email, etc.) and GROUPS (also with many fields) The relation is (I guess?) 1:n, that is ONE user can be a member of MANY groups. What I dis, is create another table, named USERS_GROUPS_REL. This table has only two fields: us_id (unique key of table USERS) and gr_id (unique key of table GROUPS) In PHP I do a query with join. Is this "best practice" or is there a better way? Thankful for any hint!

  • Oracle Group By Issue

    - by m_oLogin
Hello community, I am strugling with what seems an easy problem to tackle (at least for me in MySQL / SqlServer!) I'll simplify the problem. Let's say I have the following table: Table VOTE ID ID_IDEA DATE_VOTE with ID_IDEA FK(IDEA.ID) 1 3 10/10/10 2 0 09/09/10 3 3 08/08/10 4 3 11/11/10 5 0 06/06/10 6 1 05/05/10 I'm trying to find the latest votes given for each individual idea, meaning I want to return only rows with ID 4, 2 and 6. It seems with Oracle that you can't use GROUP BY without using a function like SUM(), AVG, etc. I'm a bit confused about how it's supposed to work. Please advise, Thanks.

  • Check mysql_query results if DELETE query worked?

    - by Camran
I have a DELETE query which deletes a record from a mysql db. is there any way to make sure if the delete was performed or not? I mean, for a query to FIND stuff you do $res=mysql_query($var); $nr=mysql_num_rows($res); and you get nr of rows returned. Is there any similiar method for deletion of records? Thanks
