  • Polymorphic association inserts 0 instead of raising error when column is misconfigured as Integer

    Here's one that stumped me for a while, though in retrospect it should have been obvious. I was getting the error message NoMethodError: undefined method `constantize' for 0:Fixnum when accessing a model through a polymorphic association. Turns out the table on the belongs_to side of the association had an integer type column instead of a string. Easily fixed, but it seems like Rails ought to raise an error in this situation -- instead it happily adds the row with 0 in the type column.

    I have a controller that takes in a viewmodel and submitbutton public ActionResult AddLocation(AddLocationViewModel viewModel, string submitButton) My view is bound to the viewmodel. The viewmodel contains a list objects used to create an html table with checkboxes. Is there a way to access the selected "rows" through the viewmodel in my controller?     Hi, I'm doing massive tests on a Postgres database... so basically I have 2 table where I inserted 40.000.000 records on, let's say table1 and 80.000.000 on table2 after this I deleted all those records. Now if I do SELECT * FROM table1 it takes 199000ms ? I can't understand what's happening? can anyone help me on this?

  • Best way to have common class shared by both C++ and Ruby?

    I am currently working on a project where a team of us are designing a game, all of us are proficient in ruby and some (but not all) of us are proficient in c++. Initially we made the backend in ruby but we ported it to c++ for more speed. The c++ port of the backend has exactly the same features and algorithms as the original ruby code. However we still have a bunch of code in ruby that does useful things but we want it to now get the data from the c++ classes. Our first thought was that we could save some of the data structures in something like XML or redis and call that, but some of the developers don't like that idea. We don't need anything particularly complex data structures to be passed between the different parts of the code, just tuples, strings and ints. Is there any way of integrating the ruby code so that it can call the c++ stuff natively? Will we need to embed code? Will we have to make a ruby extension? If so are there any good resources/tutorials you could suggest? What i want is something similar to pages that have the arrows next to each row and the user can click up if they want that row to go up.     I have a model called user which has_one email. I put the foreign key (NOT NULL) inside users table. Now I'm trying to save it in the following way: @email = Email.new(params[:email]) @email.user = User.new(params[:user]) @email.save This raises a db exception, because the foreign key constraint is not met (NULL is inserted into email_id). How can I elegantly solve this or is my data modeling wrong?

Why doesn't the COMMIT commit?

    I have this mysql query: SELECT * FROM Customer c JOIN eHRDemographic ehD ON ehD.CxID = c.CustomerID JOIN CustPrimaryWeight cpW ON cpW.CxID = c.CustomerID WHERE c.CustomerID =22703 GROUP BY c.CustomerID ORDER BY cpW.CustPrimaryWeightID DESC This doesn't really work correctly as the CustPrimaryWeight table has multiple enteries and it's simply joining the first entry and not the more recent one as the ORDER statement doesn't seem to do anything. Any ideas?
