• Keyboard shortcut: Win key doesn't work for custom commands

  It's all ok before upgraded from 10.04 to 12.04. It seems all right. In keyboard shortcut window, if I pressed Win+V, it can capture the key combination as Super+V, no problem. I've checked the output from xev utility, the left and right Win keys are translated to Super_L and Super_R correctly. I have found a workaround, though. Using gconf-editor, edit the entries /desktop/gnome/keybindings/*/binding and replace <Super> with <Mod4> for the problem bindings. However Super+... keys do work for most built-in actions such as "switch workspace", they just don't work for custom commands.

• What are the preferred documentation tools for the major programming languages?

  I'm interested in compiling a list of major programming languages and their preferred documentation toolsets. To scope this a bit: The exact structure of the answer may vary from language to language, but there appear to be two aspects common to all languages: (1) in-code syntax for documentation, and (2) documentation generators that make use of said syntax. There are also cases where generators are used independent of code. For example, tutorial-style documentation is common in the Python world and is often disconnected from underlying code. Many languages have multiple commonly-used documentation strategies and tool chains, and I'd love to capture this. Finally, there are cross-language tools like Doxygen that also have some traction and would be worth noting here. Here are some obvious target languages to start with: Python, Ruby, Java, C#, PHP, Objective-C, C/C++, Haskell, Erlang, Scala, Clojure If this question catches on, I'll try and keep this section updated with the most recent list. • How to specify which keys CapsLock affects?

  Using Maverick, I am not able to get the CapsLock behaviour I want: I would like it to affect essentially the alphabetical, numerical, and punctuation keys, i.e. all the keys that print something (as opposed to, say, the error keys), but only them. To illuminate this with an example: when writing code that uses % as the symbol for a comment, I want to be able to position the cursor at the start of a range of lines I want to comment out, then hit CapsLock, then iteratively hit the 5 key (using QWERTZ, Shift+5 gives %) and the arrow down key, so that I can quickly place a % at the start of the lines. Ubuntu in default configuration takes CapsLock literally, so that it affects only alphabetic keys. Under Preferences/Keyboard/Layout/Options I can make it act as a pressed Shift, but then the action of the arrow keys is to select text. All the other options available are equivalent to one of these two in my case. Is it possible to somehow get this behaviour? This is standard in Windows.

• Error when compiling bochs

  I'm trying to compile bochs. Here is my configure command: ./configure --enable-fpu --enable-3dnow --enable-x86-64 --enable-a20-pin --enable-cdrom --enable-debugger --enable-debugger-gui --enable-disasm Then I enter the "make" command and it compiles for some time. But then comes an error. /usr/bin/ld: gui/libgui.a(gtk_enh_dbg_osdep.o): undefined reference to symbol 'pthread_create@@GLIBC_2.2.5' //lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0: error adding symbols: DSO missing from command line collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [bochs] Error 1 Can anybody help me with this error?   Following my last posts on Change Data Capture and Change Tracking, here is another tip regarding tracking changes: table and colum checksums. The concept is: each time a column value changes, the checksum also changes. You can use this simple method to see if a table has changed very easily, however, beware, different column values may generate the same checksum. • Grab sound of a SDL game with ffmpeg/avconv

  I'm trying to make a screencast of a SDL game which I developed some years ago, with the following command: sleep 5 && avconv -f x11grab -s 1366x768 -r 25 -i :0.0 -same_quant screen_cast.mkv (in this 5 seconds of sleep, I open the game). But the generated video (screen_cast.mkv) doesn't capture audio. I use for my game the SDL_Mixer library, with default configuration (22050 for frequency, AUDIO_S16SYS for format, and 2 channels). What's the problem? (with options -f alsa -i pulse it doesn't work either).

• What camera to choose for using with JMF (Java Media Framework)

  For the past 2-3 weeks I've been searching for different ways to implement custom video streaming and in more general video capturing and manipulating, going through DVR-cards, Video Capture Cards and stuff like that. Somehow JMF was able to stay out of my sight for all this time, but since I find out about it I'm more and more sure that this is a comfortable level for me to start playing around with video and stuff. One major topic that occurs to me while searching for more info was the presence of many posts where people were complaining about the fact that any particular camera ( most of the time I think they mean web cameras) doesn't work with JMF. Even though there are a lot of different cameras (not necessarily a web cam) that are not that expensive I want to play it safe and buy one that is proven to work well with the JMF. Also due to lack of experience maybe this is irrelevant but since I'll buy the camera mostly for learning and experimenting I want to have the maximum freedom possible to mess with different features, options and so on.

  I’m trying to make TraceTune (and eventually ClearTrace) work the way I do.  My typical query tuning session goes like this: Run a trace and upload to TraceTune/ClearTrace Tune the slowest queries Goto 1 I might do this two or three times in one day and then not come back to it again for weeks or even months.  This is especially true for those clients that I only visit a few times per month.  In many cases I’ll look at a query, decide I can’t do much with it and move on.  I needed a way to capture that information. TraceTune now lets you enter a comment for a query.  It can be as simple or as complex as you like.  The comment will be shown inline with the execution history of that query. This should let you walk back through your history with a query and decide whether you should spend more time tuning it.

• Cannot Update through Manager or Terminal/ Software Center Does Not Work

  I installed Tor a few days ago via the terminal. I deleted some hashtags in the gedit polipo, and changed my proxy settings in chrome, but was unable to make it work and have since changed all of it back. I then downloaded the Tor browser bundle which works great, but ever since then have been unable to download updates or new software. The update manager says to "check internet connection" and the software center displays a mostly blank screen under apps like "rhythmbox" and just says "available from main source" when I click on "use this source" a refresh symbol appears on the upper right corner of the software center for a split second, and then nothing happens. The app does not download and isn't available in the dash. When I try via the terminal it says it's unable to connect to my ip address. I tried changing the server and unchecking all the repository options for software sources, all to no avail. WHAT DID I DO?????

• Bluetooth mouse lag on high cpu load ubuntu 11.04 12.10

  I have just migrate to Ubuntu 12.10 and I have noticed that I have huge problem with my bluetooth mouse left click button on a high load (wired, but scroll and right button are not affected) (I think powersave cpu mode affect that more than cpu load) It just not "trigger the interrupt". Mouse is laggy, click are not reggisterd. I can not work like that. At the same time, my touchpad and usb mouse works great. How to check that - limit cpu frequency (I use powersave and ondemend mode) I now wonder, what should I log, check, measure, to capture enough data to fill bug report.   I'm using an HP Pavilion dv6000 I've looked at other answers similar to this question how ever when I look at my network symbol it doesn't say anything that the answer below says "Make sure that your wifi hardware switch is on or not. It is either F2 or F12 or near to it. Once the switch is enabled, there is a small fan-like applet on the top panel (Gnome Network Manager), fourth from the right. Click on it and if there is no tick mark on the option 'Enable Wireless', enable it. Wait till your wifi connection name appears." it how says 'Enable Networking' my wi-fi switch is on and I've tried using terminal to kill the applet as another answer suggests trying. Does anyone have any other ideas that might help? Just in case anybodies curious as to how I'm posting this I'm on my other ubuntu laptop that's running an older version.

  This question already has an answer here: Will having multiple domains improve my seo? 7 answers I'm running a website for a global company, and although we rank first in search engine results here in Ireland, a search done from other countries doesn't rank us as highly. If I register the domain at other top level domain names (eg. example.co.uk, example.nor etc.) and then just mirror the .com site to those other domains, will I be penalised by search engines for having duplicate content? Has anyone else faced a similar problem and found a way to capture the global search engine? Thanks.

• Bluetooth not working and terminal has no command line, just a blank screen Ubuntu 12.04

  I recently upgraded to 12.04 from 11.10 (ironically 11.10 had everything working, it was just laggy and jittery - now stuff isn't working on 12.04). I plug in my bluetooth dongle and the bluetooth symbol appears in the status bar top right, I can "Turn on bluetooth" and "Turn off bluetooth" here, but it has no effect overall on the status of bluetooth. When I go to Bluetooth settings I can't make it turn on. Also, as I have now discovered, my terminal has no command line for me to do anything with. There is absolutely nothing there... just a black, blank screen... Help?!

  I want to stream to icecast server via darkice, the default .cfg comes with /dev/dsp, witch is OSS, but there is no /dev/dsp in Ubuntu 12.10, so I tried hw:0,0, but it's just the microphone, and I would like to stream all of the sound-card output.
