• Close Flash Player from FlashDevelop IDE

  Whenever I compile my project using FlashDevelop in 'Debug' the Flash Player window remains after I have clicked the 'Stop' button in Flash Develop. I have to then switch over to the flash player, click through any error messages and then close the player, which wastes a lot of time in the long run. Any way to make it so Flash Player closes when I click 'Stop' in the Flash Develop debug tools? EDIT: My setup is a fresh install of Windows 7, a new copy of Flash Develop 4 and Flash Player 10. As a developer using the "Microsoft Stack", how do you handle the trolls and bigots in the online world? • How do I combine an unmanaged dll and a managed assembly into one file?

  SQLite from PHX Software has combined a managed assembly (System.Data.SQLite) with an unmanaged dll (the SQLite 32- or 64-bit dll) into one file, and managed to link them together. How do I do this? Do I need to embed the managed assembly into the unmanaged dll, or vice versa? ie. my questions are: In which order do I need to do this? What tools or knowledge do I need in order to do this? How (if different) do I link to the exported functions from the unmanaged dll in my managed code? The reason I ask this is that I want to build a managed zLib wrapper. I know there is managed classes in .NET but from experience they're a bit limited (and a bit boneheaded in that they don't do proper buffering), so I'd like to create my own copy, also because I want to learn how to do this. So does anyone know what I need to do and how?

  Hello all, I have three weeks to perform the following basic task. I wish to create an online form in PHP that will get 5 numbers and with them: save the numbers to a MySQL DB do a simple computation on the numbers and return them as an output to the visitor I already have a domain, hosting and a MySQL database+user. I don't know PHP, or SQL or databases. I do have prior knowledge in C and R (which means I have some of the basics of programming, and I am not intimidated of a new languages). My question are: Am I missing something? is there some other skill I should have for this task that I don't know of? What is a good way to learn the skills needed for the task I described? • TStringGrid with BOTH editing AND range selection?

  Question: Can anyone point to an article or code samples anywhere on how to provide BOTH editing AND range selection in a TStringGrid? Yes, I KNOW there are third-party grids that do this, but it's frustrating that the built-in grid lacks this basic capability. Background: It's pretty normal to expect to be able to both edit a cell in a grid, and also to select a range of cells such as for a Copy operation. As delivered, TStringGrid doesn't do that. It's either/or. In fact, the docs tell us about the grid Options, "When goEditing is included in Options, goRangeSelect has no effect". However, it looks like it may be possible to do editing and rangeselects in a TStringGrid anyway!!! Through careful use of the mousedown, mouseup, selectcell and exit events, you can get dang close by switching editing elements on and off at the right times. But I still don't have it perfect, and that only covers mouse use, not keyboard changes.

  I would like to set up my codeigniter projects so I can use it in any folder on my webserver. Unfortunately codeigniter requires me to specify the location in several variables of the config. This is a problem for portability. There are 3 places where I see this: 1) $config['base_url'] 2) $config['base_path'] 3) .htaccess RewriteRule So far, I have found the solution to (1) here: http://codeigniter.com/wiki/Automatic_base_url/ I am looking for solutions to (2) and (3), but most importantly (3). Here is an example situation: I set .htaccess to have the RewriteRule as follows: RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /folderA/index.php/$1 [L] Then I go into my repo and check out the project to another folder to make some separate changes. Now I have to update .htaccess to show the following: RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /folderB/index.php/$1 [L] I would like to set it so I dont have to make any config changes when I check out another copy.

  Hello, I'm currently working on a symfony webapp, which is already on production. To develop and add/delete/modify functionnality of the model, I work on my laptop, using symfony 'dev' environnemment. I test if everything work fine, then I pray a little and deploy it on the prod server (with all the risk of data error, like when I add new not null attributes on the model, prod server configuration special stuff, version of php/apache etc.). The problem is that I would like to setup a "staging" server, which would be a copy of the production server (same database, same configuration apache/php), so that, if the deployment goes bad, the production user stay untouched and working, only the staging server is down. But my client has only 1 FTP available. So, the question is : can I run 2 symfony project, with different models, on the same FTP ? Or is there another way to do what I want to do ? Thank you !

• How stable or unstable is symfony 2.0 ?

  Well, I know it's a preview, and I know it says that it's not yet ready for production, and yet I dare ask the question. I need to start building a pretty big application, which is planned to go live at around sep-oct 2010. Lets say I will not release the application to production until the stable version of symfony 2.0 will be released - is it a good idea (well, I'll settle for a viable idea) for me to start building the application using the 2.0 version ? How big is the chance I will need to rewrite/replace code I've written due to core changes in the framework ? Thanks. Edit: the other option right now, is to use symfony 1.4. I have thought and tried Zend Framework, but I refuse to re-invent each and every module, which will cost me a lot of programming hours (if not days/weeks).

• A compiler for automata theory

  I'm designing a programming language for automata theory. My goal is to allow programmers to use machines (DFA, NFA, etc...) as units in expressions. I'm confused whether the language should be compiled, interpreted, or jit-compiled! My intuition is that compilation is a good choice, for some operations might take too much time (converting NFA's to equivalent DFA's can be expensive). Translating to x86 seems good. There is one issue however: I want the user to be able to plot machines. Any ideas?

• WIndows 7 cannot boot - bootrec reports FS not found or corrupt

  For 3 days now I've been unable to boot into my Windows 7 partition, and all my research has been to no avail. I'm hoping someone here has more ideas on how to fix this. When I boot up now, I get the black screen with BCD error that says theres no valid file system or it may be corrupt (pardon my lack of detail, no copy/paste is available then). When I boot with the Windows 7 disc and go into repair tools, no operating system is found, and attempting to automatically repair the problem fails with Unknown Operating System (Unknown Disk) or something similar. When I drop into the command prompt, I am able to see and navigate my C:\ drive without issue. I attempt to use bootrec: C:\> bootrec /ScanOS Finds C:\Windows as a system partition. C:\> bootrec /RebuildBCD Fails with volume does not contain a recognized file system. please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted. So then I attempt to fix the bootsector: C:\> bootsect /nt60 C: /force Which completes successfully (sorry, no output..) Upon rebooting, I have the same problem. I've also tried all of the above after making my Windows partition active: C:\> diskpart DISKPART> select disk 1 DISKPART> select partition 1 DISKPART> active DISKPART> exit Then bootrec as above, both with and without a reboot after the DISKPART commands. Then I've also tried rebuilding the BCD store by hand: set systemdrive=C: set tempbcd=C:\boot\bcd.temp set tempfile=C:\boot\temp.txt bcdedit -createstore %tempbcd% bcdedit.exe -store %tempbcd% -create {bootmgr} -d "Windows Boot Manager" bcdedit -store %tempbcd% -create -d "Windows Vista" -application osloader>%tempfile% set /p winvistaguid= <%tempfile% set winvistaguid=%winvistaguid:~10,38% bcdedit -store %tempbcd% -set %winvistaguid% osdevice partition=%systemdrive% bcdedit -store %tempbcd% -set %winvistaguid% device partition=%systemdrive% bcdedit -store %tempbcd% -set %winvistaguid% path \Windows\system32\winload.exe bcdedit -store %tempbcd% -set %winvistaguid% systemroot \Windows bcdedit -import %tempbcd% However on the import, I get my familiar friendly message: volume does not contain a recognized file system. please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted I'm at my wits end here, and I cannot understand why Windows refuses to see this as a valid install. When I list the disk/partition in DISKPART, it shows up as NTFS and "Healthy", and I can navigate the directory structure from DOS with no problems. I really, really do not want to reformat and reinstall. I know this problem can be solved!

I'm mostly thinking about the constraint to "itself". I sometimes feel like generics can "explode" to other classes where I use the Base class.

  I use winforms to develop a desktop application, and right now I plan to use SQL server express, but the problem is, if i use sql server express, then the installation is much trouble, i need to install sql server first, and install my own applicaiton. Then I tried to use access 2003 as my database, then I only need to copy the mdb file with my application. But the access 's function is not that strong, the text length is limited to 255 byte. Is there any other database solution, which is easy to integrate to my application, and easy to install after i develop my application ? Many many desktop application have their own database, and easy to install and easy to use, what database do they use ?

• How do I troubleshoot an IPsec tunnel (from a cellular router to a public server)?

  I'm new to IPsec and struggling with a setup that might soon be widely used in our operations (provided I do understand it, eventually...). A cellular router (blackbox by netModule, from its log messages it seems to be running Linux and OpenSwan) connects a sensor network on customers' sites with our public server. We need to be able to connect into the local network, so I had the cell provider give me a public IP (a dynamic one). The way their setup works, the public IPs only allow IPsec traffic. I set up OpenSwan on our Ubuntu server (running Jaunty). This is my connection config from /etc/ipsec.conf: conn gprs-field-devices left=my.pub.lic.ip [email protected] #leftsubnet=192.168.1.129/25 right=%any [email protected] #rightsubnet=192.168.1.1/25 #rightnexthop=%defaultroute auto=add On the router, all I have is the Web UI, in which I made the following settings: "Remote endpoint": public IP of server, same as "left" above "Local Network Address": 192.168.1.1 "Local Network Mask": 255.255.255.128 "Remote Network Address": 192.168.1.129 "Remote Network Mask": 255.255.255.128 The pluto process on the server is listening for connections on port 500. It can't open a tunnel, obviously, because it doesn't know at which IP the client is. I set up a passphrase as PSK for @field.econemon.com in /etc/ipsec.secrets and also configured it in the router (which doesn't seem to support certificates). My problem is, nothing happens. The router just says, IPsec is "down". When I copy-paste the IP into ipsec.conf (for "right="), and ask the server to ipsec auto --up gprs-field-devices, it just hangs until I press Ctrl-C. Is there anything wrong with my setup? How can I debug this further? • Alternate way to create a clone of a UNIX System

  THE STORY: (If you don't like to read much, down below is the question :) ) Where I work we have two HP RP2470 servers same hardware same number of hard drives same everything :). One of them is a production server and runs HP-UX 11.00. The poor ba***rd hasn't been turned off for years and now I have to make a clone of it on the other server - just in case, for redundancy. The problem is simple (or not simple) as I have to make the the other server exactly the same. However the old version of OS (UX 11.00 is a history now) and the old software running on it, have made my task almost impossible. On the production server there is also a cloning/recover utility Ignite-UX. I tried many times to create a recovery tape with it. Then when I load the tape on the backup server, it succeeds with the loading of the tape (no errors no warnings) but on the next restart it fails to load the OS :S and drops into HP`s ISL prompt. --- THE QUESTION: Is there an alternate way to create a clone of the Unix System? The environment is: 1. 2x HP RP2470 Servers (non-Intel), same hardware, same number od HDDs (two each of them) same everything. 2. OS running: HP-UX 11.00 The production server has to be cloned without downtime - sadly :( as I hope that they will reconsider on this one For example (like on Windows platforms), if you try to copy an entire HDD with Windows inside on another HDD, and then put that HDD on another PC it will still work, as long as the hardware is the same. Can I do something like that with a Unix system? Can I somehow COPY the contents of the entire HDD, put those on another HDD, and then just load the HDD into the other server? (If you haven't read the story the servers are exactly the same) Will it work? Can it be done with ordinary commands like cp or dump or something like that? • Problem with Classes in Python..

  Ok guys, I'm really new at python (and programming itself) so sorry for my ignorance, but I really needed to ask this. So im doing a wxPython project where I added several tabs for a notebook (each tab of the notebook = a class) and there is one tab where I added a checkbox (in a tab, lets call it for example Tab1), and what I want is that when someone checks it, a button that exists in other tab (class called for example tab2) gets hidden where previously it was being shown. Well I see that it isn't hard to accomplish this, but my problem is the classes (tab1 and tab2, in this example). I've been trying to figure it out by searching but I guess im not searching hard enough because I just can't get it right. If they were in the same class I wouldn't have a problem, but as they are in different classes, im having a huge struggle with this. Hope someone can help me, and sorry for my ignorance once again.

  In what language was MSDOS originally written in? The Wikipedia Article implies either C, QBasic or Pascal, but: C was invented to write UNIX, so I don't believe it was used to write MSDOS Pascal seems popular to teach programming, but not really popular to write Operating systems in QBasic didn't seem to be very popular for Operating Systems at the time MSDOS was developed (or was *BASIC ever very popular to write Operating Systems in it?) Except these three languages there is also Assembly, but I assume that Microsoft already switched from Assembly to a "higher" level language? Since C was originally invented for UNIX, I still wouldn't think Microsoft is using C... although the Microsoft API is written in C (I find this kind-of oxymoronic, actually). Can anyone enlighten me on this topic?

• COM port - how to identify a device (.net/c#)

  Hi, I'm programming for Windows CE and I need to connect to a scanner. There is no problem - I know that it is on port COM0, but if I plug in another device earlier it gets another COM port... to get all com ports the easy way is: SerialPort.GetPortNames() But I don't know how to identify a device? Is there any standard way? I can't 'ping' it since there is one device that only sends data... it spams data all the time... and I don't know how to 'ping' a device...
