• Program to read and convert entire website to html

  I'm using a very old cms, Synkron.web. I need to convert all of my pages (written in .asp) to plain html - so I have an archive where all of the pages from my website are saved. I was wondering if there isnt some kind of program out there, with the ability to traverse all documents on a website, view their source, and save them as html-pages on my local machine? If not, do you have any suggestions on how to convert a Synkron.web database, to some kind of open-source CMS? Like Wordpress, etc...

• US GAAP and IFRS Convergence May Be Delayed Even More

  Yesterday, on March 10, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) met to discuss the changes in financial statement presentation. Over the last six months, the FASB and IASB have been working feverishly to converge US GAAP and IFRS standards to meet the 2011 deadline. In March alone, the standards-setters met eight times. Many people fear that this accelerated pace is compromising the quality of the end product and that maybe they should slow down and do their due diligence. According to WG&L Accounting & Compliance Alert Checkpoint 3/10/2010, (which requires a subscription to view the full article) "Some statement preparers and investors who advise the FASB believe that the process would be better served if it was slowed down so that more attention could be paid to quality." "Should 2011 be looked at as a line in the sand?" asked Joan Amble, executive vice president and corporate comptroller for American Express Co. "We don't think that due process should be compromised for the due date," concurred Lewis Dulitz, vice president of accounting policies and research for medical products supplier Covidien plc. I personally have mixed emotions about this. On one hand, I have been growing impatient with how slow the US has jumped on the IFRS band wagon. On the other hand, being the conservative that I am and knowing this convergence will be costly and disruptive to businesses, I would prefer to be safe than sorry and get it right the first time.

• How can I download a phpbb forum with wget including password protected sections?

  I want to make a download of a forum I moderate, before it closes for good. There's some useful info on it I want to save for myself and I don't want to export the data to another webserver, I just want the pages. Mind you, I'm a user at the forum, not the admin. Now, I googled this and found it can be easily done with wget: How can I download an entire (active) phpbb forum? I used: wget -k -m -E -p -np -R viewtopic.php*p=*,memberlist.php*,faq.php*,posting.php*,search.php*,ucp.php*,viewonline.php*,*sid*,*view=print*,*start=0* -o log.txt http://www.example.com/forum/ I experimented with this, but I can only achieve downloading the publicly visible sections, not the sections you have to log in for. I tried to achieve this by using a Firefox plugin to make a cookies.txt (while my session is logged into the forum) and add --load-cookies file cookies.txt to the command, but still I only get the publicly visible sections. Any suggestions to make this work?

• Where can you see the data that's been recorded by a tracking cookie?

  I've always read that cookies can, and do, store sensitive information such as OTHER websites that you've visited outside the one to which the cookie belongs. I've started to read up about it and can see that it's persistent cookies which typically do this - and well I've started to look through cookie files on my computer - but I can't see any telling info in them! Just a few jumbled lines and not the scary urls of other sites that I'm looking for. How do I view them? Or is the raw data of visited urls only ever stored on the server end of the site that's tracking me? I'm on Win7 and can look at cookies from FF 12, Chrome 18, IE9 and Safari 5.1. Thanks for illuminating this once and for all.

• A PDF viewer for large margins in fullscreen

  I am looking for a way to pleasantly read PDF files on my widescreen (22" 1680x1050) monitor. My problem with all pdf the PDF-viewer applications I have tried is that they do not handle wide and high margins well. If I go to fullscreen mode in my viewer and zoom in so that the extra margins are cropped, I can view the pages nicely, the annoyance however is that I have to reposition the pages every time I navigate to another page. I am sure there must be a way to make a PDF viewer that can solve this problem and perhaps there is one you know of? I am aware of something called PDF Reflow in Acrobat Reader but that only works with certain specific (tagged) files. I want a PDF viewer with a smarter zoom/next page function or an automatic margin-crop function. Is there such a thing?

• Connecting the Dots (.NET Business Connector)

  Recently, one of my colleagues was experimenting with Reporting Server on DAX 2009, whenever he used to view a report in SQL Server Reporting Manager he was welcomed with an error: “Error during processing Ax_CompanyName report parameter. (rsReportParameterProcessingError)” The Event Log had the following entry: Dynamics Adapter LogonAs failed. Microsoft.Dynamics.Framework.BusinessConnector.Session.Exceptions.FatalSessionException at Microsoft.Dynamics.Framework.BusinessConnector.Session.DynamicsSession.HandleException(Stringmessage, Exception exception, HandleExceptionCallback callback) We later found out that this was due to incorrect Business Connector account, with my past experience I noticed this as a very common mistake people make during EP and Reporting Installations. Remember that the reports need to connect to the Dynamics Ax server to run the AxQueries., which needs to pass through the .NET Business Connector. To ensure everything works fine please note the following settings: 1) Your Report Server Service Account should be same as .NET Business Connector proxy account. 2) Ensure on the server which has Reporting Services installed, the client configuration utility for Business Connector points to correct proxy account. 3) And finally, the AX instance you are connecting to has Service account specified for .NET business connector. (administration –> Service accounts –> .NET Business Connector) These simple checkpoints can help in almost most of the Business Connector related  errors, which I believe is mostly due to incorrect configuration settings.   I have 2 computers connected to a router and I have a DVB card in one of them. I want to use the one DVB card to feed both of them. I read about it and I know that I want to share the DVB adapter with the Internet Connection Sharing on the LAN network. But when I use the connection sharing, I lose my internet access I tried to use "Bridge Connection", but then I also lost my internet access too. Can any one tell me how to fix this problem? And how to view the channels (for example how to use the VLC)?

I have a sweet spot, and I dearly hope that it stays this way (Last year I had a great spot, but it was changed last minute and then I had a much better one, “competing” against Vertigo and their Playboy app… yeah try to explain to a bunch of geeks that MVVM is better than Playboy… good luck with that ;) Anyway, this year my sweet spot is on the very first day of the conference (there are workshops on Sunday, but this qualifies as pre-conference), Monday after the keynote which should get everyone pumped and excited. • Converting to and from local and world 3D coordinate spaces?

  Hey guys, I've been following a guide I found here (http://knol.google.com/k/matrices-for-3d-applications-view-transformation) on constructing a matrix that will allow me to 3D coordinates to an object's local coordinate space, and back again. I've tried to implement these two matrices using my object's look, side, up and location vectors and it seems to be working for the first three coordinates. I'm a little confused as to what I should expect for the w coordinate. Here are couple of examples from the print outs I've made of the matricies that are constructed. • Problem During Installation SQL Server 2005 on Windows 7

   Yesterday I was trying to install SQL Server 2005 on windows 7. During installation a popup error dialog shown with this message: The SQL Server service failed to start. For more information, see the SQL Server Books Online topics, "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" and "Starting SQL Server Manually. Here is the captured screen: But in books online there was no useful information! After some hours googling, I did not found any useful information and at 3 o'clock of midnight, I was scratching my head! Believe it, I attempted to install SQL Server more than 15 times with different manners (with command prompt & parameters and else). Eventually I found the resource of problem, that was "BitDefender Internet Security 2010"! After uninstalling BitDefender Internet Security, I installed SQL Server 2005 and then reinstalled BitDefender. Just that! Problem resolved. Conclusion: After installing a new version of windows and it's requirements (like IIS and language specifications & else), first install the SQL Server and the Visual Studio and then other applications.Hope be helpful.

• Responsive website VS mobile website

  I am creating a new blog. Nowadays, especially for a blog, it's important that the websites are accessible for all devices. Now I have to make a choice on what to do. I have seen 2 options. Option 1 is to go with a normal fixed website, for example 960px wide (grid960). And for mobile users have a mobile version. This takes some more time, but then there are 2 good versions of the website. Option 2 I haven't seen a lot yet, creating a adaptive website, or also called responsive website. I am now looking into the LESS framework, where the website automatically switches to to required width. Only downside is that when the normal browser is re-sized, everything re-sizes. Another problem I found is that pinch-to-zoom on devices does not work. Now the question is, which one would you prefer for a blog. One that constantly changes layout when you move your device, or one where you have the choice to view mobile and normal. If there are any other options, please let me know.

• Geek Bike Ride Sao Paulo

  What do you do on sunny Saturday in Sao Paulo when you have several Java enthusiasts, street lanes closed off for bicyclists, new cool Duke jerseys, and some wonderful bike angels to provide a tour through the city? A GEEK BIKE RIDE, of course! The weekend before JavaOne Latin America, the Sao Paulo geek bike ride was held today. We had 20+ riders and a wonderful route that took us from the Bicycle Park to and through downtown. It was a 30Km ride, but our hosts were kind enough to give riders the option to take the subway for part of the trip. Thanks to our wonderful bike angels, the usual rental bike problems like rubbing brakes, dropped chains, and even a flat tire were handled with ease.  The geek bike ride wasn't just for out-of-towners. Loiane Groner, who lives in Sao Paulo said, "I love the Geek Bike Ride! The last time I was in these parts of the city, I think I was five years-old!" A good time was had by all. (My only crash of the day was riding up an escalator with my bike. Luckily, the bikers with me were so busy helping me that no pictures were taken. <phew>) Enjoy this video by Hugo Lavalle You can also view Hugo's pictures.   I am trying to run multiple sites using single code base and code base consist of the following module (i.e. classes) User module Q & A module Faq module and each class works on MVC pattern i.e. it consist of Entity class Helper class (i.e. static class) View (i.e. pages and controls) and let's say I have 2 sites site1.com and site2.com. And I am trying to achieve following functionality site1.com can have User, Q & A and Faq module up and running site2.com can have User and Q & A module live while Faq module is switched off but it can be turned-on if needed, so my query here is what is the best way to achieve such functionality Do I introduce a flag bit that I check on every page and control belonging to that module? It's more like CMS where you can turn on/off different features. I am trying to get my head around it, please provide me with an example or point out if I am taking the wrong approach.

• Shoutcast admin panel not showing most of information

  I recently start audio streaming broadcast through third party - they provide server to broadcast audio. But when I accessed Shoutcast admin panel on the server, there's not much information I can use, for example, what if I want to ban a particular ip address. Here's screen shot- And none of options did work (listeners, tail logfile, view logfile, reverse ip list.. ) does it mean that provider blocks all features on shoutcast admin panel by default? or something else.. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks

• Unity desktop "smears" (doesn't refresh) and shows no wallpaper

  Since a couple of days now, my unity desktop background smears everything, just like what old Windows versions were famous for: Of course, I tried rebooting a couple of times. Also, I switched graphics driver and I tried to change wallpaper and theme, but none of them solved the problem. What could be causing that problem, and where can I search on for its source? • Firefox extension to save tabs?

  I'm looking for some Firefox (4 or 5) extension to save a group of tabs (better if can be done directly in Panorama view). What I mean by "Save tabs" is not to restore them when Firefox starts. I always have the browser opened and a LOT of tabs (work and personal life related) eating my RAM. So when I'm not working, I would want a way to save those tabs but keep them closed while I still use Firefox. So when I have to start working again, I will restore that saved tabs back again. I know I could use something like Read It Later, but I really need a way to say "hey, save this group of tabs and close them". RIL makes me do it per tab, which is annoying since I'm used to have A LOT.
