  I'm trying to use a GridView to display a list of components in ASP.NET. I'm trying to make it editable at the same time. One of the columns is a string that should be selected out of a list when the user edits the row. So I've tried the following: Convert the BoundField row to an ItemTemplate Add a dropbox to the template window in the gridview bound the selecteditem to the string At this point, I get an error because the list items haven't been set up in the dropbox. So I guess the two things I'm wondering are: How do I assign the items in the dropbox to a dynamically created list of options? How do I make the dropbox only appear when the row is being edited?

• How do I request a single random row from a force.com database in SOQL?

  Total row-count is in the range 10k-100k rows. Can I use RAND() on force.com? Unfortunately although all the rows have a unique numeric identifier, there are many gaps, and I'd often want to select a random row from a filtered subset anyway. I suspect there's no particularly efficient way to do this, but is it possible at all? Ultimately all I want to do is to extract one row from a table (or a subset based on specific filter criteria) at random. If force.com doesn't let me select a random row, then can I query the rows to select from, and assign sequential IDs to all the rows, say 1-1,035, and then select a random number in that range locally, say 349, and then get row 349?

  Note: Most probably this will be a double question, but since I haven't found a clear answer, I'm asking it anyway. In ASP.NET I'd like to add some JavaScript to the onclick event of a CheckBox. I've simplified the case to this: <asp:CheckBox ID="TestCheckBox" runat="server" onclick="alert('test');" Text="Test" /> The resulting HTML is as follows: <input id="MainContainer_TestCheckBox" type="checkbox" name="ctl00$MainContainer$TestCheckBox" onclick="alert(&#39;test&#39;);" /><label for="MainContainer_TestCheckBox">Test</label> What particularly bothers me is that a single quote 'automatically' gets converted into '&#39;'.   I am working on const-correctness of my code and just wondered why this code compiles: class X { int x; int& y; public: X(int& _y):y(_y) { } void f(int& newY) const { //x = 3; would not work, that's fine y = newY; //does compile. Why? } }; int main(int argc, char **argv) { int i1=0, i2=0; X myX(i1); myX.f(i2); ... } As far as I understand, f() is changing the object myX, although it says to be const. How can I ensure my compiler complains when I do assign to y? (Visual C++ 2008) Thank a lot!

  I'm working on an app that sends raw data to zebra printer and print out barcodes. And since every item has its own unique barcode, I need to define a variable that automatically generates unique number of 12 digits long. see example: printBar prnt = new printBar("123456789012"); Is there anyway to define a double variable and pass it to a function that return uniqely 12 digits number and pass it over again to the printBar class?. But how to make sure everytime you access it returns a unique value?. I also thought of another way, since am using MS Access db, I can create a column of AutoNumber datatype and assign it to Random, but you don't get the exact 12 digits required, sometimes it generates a value of 10 digits sometimes more or less.

  I want to load data to an instance of an object using its constructor and I write $this->property=$row["colname"] each time for each property. the mysql_fetch_object function fetches the data as an object but I am not sure if the instance of an object can be assigned to some object from inside. othwerwise I would use __construct($object) { $this=$object; } //doesn't give any syntax error Maybe I should look into iteration of properties and use foreach($object as $key => $value) $value=$object[$key]; or can I assign like $this=$object; within the constructor?

  I want to filter elements from a list of lists, and iterate over the elements of each element using a lambda. For example, given the list: a = [[1,2,3],[4,5,6]] suppose that I want to keep only elements where the sum of the list is greater than N. I tried writing: filter(lambda x, y, z: x + y + z >= N, a) but I get the error: <lambda>() takes exactly 3 arguments (1 given) How can I iterate while assigning values of each element to x, y, and z? Something like zip, but for arbitrarily long lists. thanks, p.s. I know I can write this using: filter(lambda x: sum(x)..., a) but that's not the point, imagine that these were not numbers but arbitrary elements and I wanted to assign their values to variable names.

  Where I work, my role has been evolving from a pure development role to team leadership. I find that this suits me, and I'm generally enjoying it. One aspect of the job that continually vexes me, though, is time management. My day used to be pure coding. Now, I still have a largely full plate of coding duties, but I'm expected to mentor other developers, work on requirements, make design decisions for other developers, evaluate bug reports from users, assign them to developers, and so on. I find that my day has become on interruption after another and the prolonged periods of sustained concentration needed to get any actual quality coding done are becoming rarer and rarer. Today, I finally grabbed my laptop and escaped to a coffee shop so I could get some actual work done. How do the team leads here manage their day -- or manage their workplace -- so they don't let their administrative tasks overwhelm them?

  Hi, I am building an app on top of Google Reader. Since users have to enter their Google Account data, I'd like to use this data to assign personal settings to each user. However, if I do so and a user would change his email adress or password(for the whole Google Account), I wouldn't be able to identify him anymore.   Inside repeater's itemtemplate I have a Panel server control. I need to assign special Id for it, because I need to work with some javascript functions that use this Id. In repeater ItemDataBound event I have this: pnlButtonsPanel.ID = pnlButtonsPanel.ID + DataBinder.Eval(e.Item.DataItem, "ID"); But this solution is not good because after a postback the page is re -rendered and I lose the new ID. (And I don't want to rebind repeater after every postback) I tried to set the ID on aspx page like that: <asp:Panel id='<%# Eval("ID") %>' and some other variations but always get compile errors.

  In my application's main class (subclass of Application), I have a public inner class that simply contains 3 public string objects. In the parent class I declare an object of that inner class. public class MainApplication extends Application { public class Data { public String x; public String y; public String z; } private Data data; MainApplication() { data = new Data() data.x = "String"; } } After I instantiate the object in the constructor, I get a runtime error when I try to assign any of the inner class object's variables. Any idea what's up here??

• Creating controls in ASP with dynamic IDs

  Hi, I'm creating a chat widget that will be dropped into CommunityServer. The widget works great, but I just discovered that if I drop two of these widgets onto the same page, only one of them works! And I'm quite certain the reason is because the chat window is defined in ASP, and now there are two instances of the chat window, with the same ID, on the same page. I am doing this with straight ASP & Javascript (not by choice), so my chat window is defined as: <telerik:RadListBox ID="rlbMessages" runat="server" > (don't mind that it's a telerik control). So I was hoping I could do something like this: <telerik:RadListBox ID="<%= 'rlbMessages' + chatRoomID %>" runat="server" > But from what I've gathered, apparently you can't assign ID's this way? What is the alternative?

• Loss of precision - int -> float or double

  I have an exam question i am revising for and the question is for 4 marks "In java we can assign a int to a double or a float". Will this ever loose infromation and why? I have put that because ints are normally of fixed length or size - the precision for sotring data is finite, where storing information in floating point can be infinite, essentially we loose infromation because of this Now i am a little sketchy as to whetehr or not i am hitting the right areas here. I very sure it will loose precision but i cant exactly put my finger on why. Can i getsome help please Thanks

• Error message when trying to insert method into touchesBegan

  I am trying to create a new method within my TapDetectingImageView file and it's giving me a warning that it cannot find the method even though I have it declared in the .h file. The specific three warnings all point to the @end line in the .m file when I build it and they say: "Incomplete implementation of class 'TapDetectingImageView' ; 'Method definition for '-functionA:' not found" ; "Method definition for '-functionB:' not found" What am I missing? Am I not allowed to do this in a protocol file like TapDetectingImageView?
