• Communicating with the PC via USB connection in Android

  I'm fairly new to android programming and need some information for a 4th year forensics course project. Basically I am trying to create a suite of tools for live analysis of an android phone. I know how to get the information I need on the phone, but I was wondering if there was a way to communicate that information back to the PC? I want to be able to run a program from a PC, which, when the phone is docked, will allow the user to access information about the phone (ie currently running services/processes, bluetooth/wifi connections, etc). I have a bunch of methods that will run on the phone and get all the information, but I want to be able to call those methods from the PC, execute on the phone, then have the information sent back to the PC to display to the user instead of just displaying it on the phone. • Library to parse ERB files

  I am attempting to parse, not evaluate, rails ERB files in a Hpricot/Nokogiri type manner. The files I am attempting to parse contain HTML fragments intermixed with dynamic content generated using ERB (standard rails view files) I am looking for a library that will not only parse the surrounding content, much the way that Hpricot or Nokogiri will but will also treat the ERB symbols, <%, <%= etc, as though they were html/xml tags. Ideally I would get back a DOM like structure where the <%, <%= etc symbols would be included as their own node types. I know that it is possible to hack something together using regular expressions but I was looking for something a bit more reliable as I am developing a tool that I need to run on a very large view code base where both the html content and the erb content are important. For example, content such as: blah blah blah <divMy Great Text <%= my_dynamic_expression %</div Would return a tree structure like: root - text_node (blah blah blah) - element (div) - text_node (My Great Text ) - erb_node (<%=)

  How to streamline/automate the configuration of Eclipse? Given N developers running a mixture of Ubuntu and Mac OS X, all with the same version of Eclipse, how to make sure that: Each developer, on top of his favourite "Available Software Sites" selection, has a common set of installation sources? Each developer has an easy (automated?) way of installing a base set of plug-ins? Each developer can just as easily install a custom plugin developed in-house and distributed over the local network? No automatically deployed plugins conflict with any others a developer might already be using? I would post this to serverfault.com if it wasn't that I am more interested in a "scripting" answer than a traditional "system management" solution... ;-)

• Web framework for an application utilizing existing database?

  A legacy web application written using PHP and utilizing MySql database needs to be rewritten completely. However, the existing database structure must not be changed at all. I'm looking for suggestions on which framework would be most suitable for this task? Language candidates are Python, PHP, Ruby and Java. According to many sources it might be challenging to utilize rails effectively with existing database. Also I have not found a way to automatically generate models out of the database. With Django it's very easy to generate models automatically. However I'd appreciate first hand experience on its suitability to work with legacy DBs. Also I appreciate suggestions of other frameworks worth considering.

• What is best way to update digital certificates from server to many clients when certificate expires

  One of my friend is working on issue related to updating expired digital certificates. He is working on Java application(Swings I guess), which has 4000 clients. All those need a digital certificate to connect to the application and this certificate expires every year. At the end of year he needs to update the certificate credentials for all clients. Currently this is manual process, done by connecting to each of 4000 systems either locally or by remote connection. He is got task to convert this process to be an automated process.   Hi, I've seen numerous answers to similar questions like this one. I haven't seen on the web many people have asked the seemingly simple question "How do I connect Access 2007 to an SQL server 2008 database" - but all of the answers describe how you can migrate from access 2007 to an sql server 2008 database, or they describe how to connect access 2007 to an sql server 2005 database. I can't find any simple solution to my problem (and probably this is a problem for many others). Here is the question (sorry for the over emphasis): How do I connect to an sql server 2008 database (and I mean 2008, not 2005 :) ) from access 2007? Apologies again for the over emphasis, but this very simple question, and what I thought should be a very simple task seems, yes, ... impossible! • Saving State Dynamic UserControls...Help!

  I have page with a LinkButton on it that when clicked, I'd like to add a Usercontrol to the page. I need to be able to add/remove as many controls as the user would like. The Usercontrol consists of three dropdownlists. The first dropdownlist has it's auotpostback property set to true and hooks up the OnSelectedIndexChanged event that when fired will load the remaining two dropdownlists with the appropriate values. My problem is that no matter where I put the code in the host page, the usercontrol is not being loaded properly. I know I have to recreate the usercontrols on every postback and I've created a method that is being executed in the hosting pages OnPreInit method. I'm still getting the following error: The control collection cannot be modified during DataBind, Init, Load, PreRender or Unload phases. I would like to know what useful gdb scripts you have written and liked. While, I do not mean a dump of commands in a something.gdb file that you source to pull out a bunch of data, if that made your day, go ahead and talk about it. Lets think conditional processing, control loops and functions written for more elegant and refined programming to debug and, maybe even for whitebox testing Things get interesting when you start debugging remote systems (say, over a serial/ethernet interface) And, what if the target is a multi-processor (and, multithreaded) system Let me put a simple case as an example... Say, A script that traversed serially over entries to locate a bad entry in a large hash-table that is implemented on an embedded platform. That helped me debug a broken hash-table once.

• What technical skills needed for algorithmic trading, HFT, etc?

  I'm interested in getting into developing trading systems, black box, HFT, etc. My primary experience is with C# and .Net (7 years). I've also done some sockets programming. I have some experience in finance working on analysis applications (2 years). My goal is to move into developing automated trading systems for a hedge fund, bank, etc. Is there any way to learn the skills needed for this without somehow getting the job first? I've looked at the open source tradelink, IB interactive brokerage, etc. I'm playing around with this framework, and may hook it up and do some paper trading. However, I'm not sure if this has much relationship with how a well-funded entity would be conducting a high-level automated trading operation. I.e. would the tools and frameworks they prefer be a totally different skill-set? Also wondering if I need to learn C++ and/or Java for these types of apps.

  Hi, I am new to vb6. I am working to create the invoice generation application. I am using data report to show the generated invoice. The step by step working of process is Entering the data in to Invoice and ItemsInvoice tables. Then getting the maxId using (Adodc) from the data base to show the last generated Invoice. Then passing the max Id as parameter to the data report which is showing the invoice according to the invoice id. It is working fine when I first time generate invoice. Now for 2nd invoice withou closing application I am getting a blank data report. For data report I am using dataenvironment. I am guessing the reason of blank data report is blank because there was no record for that Id. But actually the record is inserting in the database. Please help me.

• NativeWindow WndProc not receiving messages

  Could someone shed some light on why my WndProc method as implemented below isn't receiving any messages? If I put this class below in a WinForms application and pass in that application's handle, WndProc receives messages as I would expect. However, using the IntPtr returned from GetForegroundWindow() as I have below doesn't yield the same results. In general we use biometrics in computer applications say for authentication. Lets get 2 examples finger prints and facial recognition. In those cases how we keep the information for comparison. As an example we can't keep a image and process it every time. So what are the methodologies we use to store/determine the similarity in such cases? Are there any special algorithms that designed for that purposes.? (Ex : To return a approximately equal value for a finger print of a certain person every time)

The exact requirements are: The code must be THE SAME in production and test location. To clarify, to promote any code (library or script) from test to production, the ONLY thing which needs to happen is literally issuing cp command from test to prod location - both the file name AND file contents must remain identical. Test versions of scripts must call other test scripts and test libraries (if exist) or production libraries (if test libraries do not exist) The code paths must be the same between test and production with the exception of base directory (/usr/code/ vs /usr/code/test/) I will present how we solved the problem as an answer to this question, but I'd like to know if there's a better way.

  I have a base table of Participants and Answers, with the following structure: ParticipantId, BusUnitId, QuestionNum, Answer. In this table, QuestionNum ranges, say, from 1 to 6. I also have two other tables that sort of link QuestionNum to the actual question table, BusUnitQuestions, and ParticipantQuestions. For each QuestionNum, I must get the actual question text, based on QuestionId. BusUnitId, QuestionId ParticipantId, QuestionId Now assuming records with QuestionNum from 1 to 6. BusUnitQuestions has 3 records, so QuestionNum 1 to 3 must join to Question on the QuestionId's from BusUnitQuestions, and QuestionNum 4 to 6 must join to Question on the QuestionId's from ParticipantQuestions. I assume I need to use ROW_NUMBER() in the subquery from BusUnitQuestions to join to my answer table, but I'm lost after that. If anyone at all understands me, do you have any suggestions?

  Hi All, My application uses Core Location in three different views. It's working perfectly. In my first view, I subclass the CLLocationManager and use protocol methods for location updates to my calling class. Before I install the framework and code in my other classes, I was wondering: Is the protocol method the best way? What happens to the Core Location execution if the user exits the view or quits the app while it's trying to get a location fix? Is the location task terminated with the GPS system turned off immediately? If the user simply switches to another view, is it OK to assume that I can start Core Location in the next view without regard to the last? Where should the first update location call be placed. Should the application delegate instantiate the CLLocation Manager class using protocol so that it can update any of the views chosen or should each class instantiate the manager. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

When I request the XML with following: <itemCodeaa</itemCode <compositionVersionbb</compositionVersion <h22</h --- extra element Displays Errors: Unmarshalling Error: unexpected element (uri:"", local:"h"). Expected elements are <{}itemCode,<{}compositionVersion I know the 'h' doesn't map the element in WSDL. But It's OK in the cxf-2.1.4 version. How can i solve this problem? thanks.

• Visual Studio 2010 Extensibility, MPF and language services

  Hi, I am trying to extend Visual Studio 2010 RC to be able to use a custom programming language. The first two things I've tried to do is a syntax highlight/Intellisense feature (easily done, thanks to "Ook!" sample from PDC09) and a possibility to create new project templates (i.e. be able to open *.myproj files). For this second task, I can't find any easy tutorials or samples. Most samples are for Visual Studio 2008 (as for IronPython integration) or even VS2003. The few samples available for VS2010 do not work (including MPFProj) or do not compile, and are too hard to understand. Is there any easy-to-understand sample, either using MPFProj or a standalone solution, showing how to integrate templates for a custom language inside Visual Studio 2010?

• django auth : strange error with authenticate()

  I am using authenticate() to authenticating users manually. • Asyncronously receiving data in an ASP.NET MVC application

  I'm looking for the best way to constantly check if data has been sent to our ASP.NET MVC application from a server. I would like to asynchronously check for data and update the view when data has been read. I'm currently using a TcpClient to make a connection, and making the connection in the inherited custom base controller. Currently though I have to refresh the page for the updating of the view to take place. Would there be a proper AJAX solution? or do I need to move the connection to the ActionMethod?
