  • Software available for singing "lessons" via computer microphone?

    - by drozzy
Looking for a software to help my friend learn to sing. Can't seem to find anything on googles. Does there exist software (preferably downloadable and from this century!) that records one's voice and then analyzes it to see how "accurate" it was. It would be great if it also had some kind of "lessons" of some sort, and not simply sound recorder that shows waveforms. I can't imagine it would be so hard to implement, and there probably is one out there - I just can't find it. Any recommendations are welcome. Thanks.

  • Problems switching to QEMU control panel with -nographics

    - by tor
It seems that the terminal does not recognise CTRL+ALT+2 when typed, so I don't know how to quit the QEMU emulation, or switch to the QEMU control panel. I am running Mac OSX Lion, and I type $ qemu-system-arm -M verdex -pflash flash.img -nographic -sd sdcard.img to start QEMU emulation of an ARM system in the Terminal. I learned from this site that typing CTRL+ALT+2 should work, but the only thing that happens to me, is that a "2" is printed on the command line of the virtual operating system. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Is this a Mac specific issue? (The same problem occurs in both terminal.app and iTerm2)

  • Computer won't power on

    - by briskmojo
Was working fine for over a year, now won't boot. LEDs on the GFX card and one on the MOBO labeled PWR glow when plugged in, but nothing happens when I push power and shorting switch pins does nothing either. If I pop out the CMOS battery and put it back in then try the fans lurch but nothing happens. Shorting the 15 and 16 pins turns the PSU on, and when the 24pin connector is attached to the MOBO it will start up briefly then stop. If I plug in the CPU header it returns to what I described, no power but will lurch after replacing the CMOS battery. Should I be shopping for a new PSU or is there another problem maybe?

  • Problems in "Save as PDF" plugin with Arabic numbers

    - by Mohamed Mohsen
I use the "Save as PDF" plugin with Microsoft word 2007 to generate a PDF document from DOCX document. It works great except that the Arabic numbers in the word file have been converted to English numbers in the PDF document. Kindly find two links containing two screen shots explaining the problem. http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/2893/englishpdf.jpg http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/1857/arabicword.jpg The first image is the generated PDF file with the English numbers highlighted. The second image is the original word file with the Arabic numbers highlighted. Thanks in advance

  • SPF problems with Google Apps

    - by mahle
I currently have an SPF record with a hostname of @ that is: v=spf1 mx ip4:x.x.x.243/32 include:_spf.google.com include:amazonses.com ~all I also have another record of" spf2.0/pra mx ip4:x.x.x.243/32 include:_spf.google.com include:amazonses.com ~all We have had a lot of email being bounced back because of spam and now when I go to http://www.kitterman.com/spf/validate.html? and check the "Does my domain already have an SPF record? What is it? Is it valid?" it says no spf record exists. However, when I send an email using our Amazon SES script and check the headers it says it passes the SPF test. Is there something I am missing? Do I need to place that text in quotes ""? Any help would be greatly apprecaited.

  • Basic multicast network performance problems

    - by davedavedave
I've been using mpong from 29west's mtools package to get some basic idea of multicast latency across various Cisco switches: 1Gb 2960G, 10Gb 4900M and 10Gb Nexus N5548P. The 1Gb is just for comparison. I have the following results for ~400 runs of mpong on each switch (sending 65536 "ping"-like messages to a receiver which then sends back -- all over multicast). Numbers are latencies measured in microseconds. Switch Average StdDev Min Max 2960 (1Gb) 109.68463 0.092816 109.4328 109.9464 4900M (10Gb) 705.52359 1.607976 703.7693 722.1514 NX 5548(10Gb) 58.563774 0.328242 57.77603 59.32207 The result for 4900M is very surprising. I've tried unicast ping and I see the 4900 has ~10us higher latency than the N5548P (average 73us vs 64us). Iperf (with no attempt to tune it) shows both 10Gb switches give me 9.4Gbps line speed. The two machines are connected to the same switch and we're not doing any multicast routing. OS is RHEL 6. 10Gb NICs are HP 10GbE PCI-E G2 Dual-port NICs (I believe they are rebranded Mellanox cards). The 4900 switch is used in a project with tight access control so I'm waiting for approval before I can access it and check the config. The other two I have full access to configure. I've looked at the Cisco document[2] detailing differences between NX-OS and IOS w.r.t multicast so I've got some ideas to try out but this isn't an area where I have much expertise. Does anyone have any idea what I should be looking at once I get access to the switch? [1] http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Cisco_NX-OS/IOS_Multicast_Comparison

  • Debian Lenny to Debian Squeeze upgrade problems

  • Remote Access Problems with DRAC 5 on Dell PowerEdge 1950

    - by Darin Peterson
Today I received my first Dell PowerEdge 1950 server with a DRAC 5 card. On my local network I have static configurations on my Linux systems using this for instance: iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.210 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.1.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 gateway 192.168.1.1 dns-nameservers 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4 For the DRAC card, I configured the LAN like this: address 192.168.1.215 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1 For the advanced LAN settings I used dns-nameservers 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4 I've tried many different IP addresses, but cannot communicate with the card. Is there anyone who might know if I have configuration issues, or maybe if the card might be bad?

  • Permissions problems with Apache / SVN

    - by Fred Wuerges
I am installed a SVN server (v1.6) on a VPS contracted with CentOS 5, Apache 2.2 with WHM panel. I installed and configured all necessary modules and am able to create and access repositories via my web browser normally. The problem: I can not commit or import anything, always return permission errors: First error: Can not open file '/var/www/svn/test/db/txn-current-lock': Permission denied After fix the previous error: Can't open '/var/www/svn/test/db/tempfile.tmp': Permission denied And other... (and happends many others) Can't open file '/var/www/svn/test/db/txn-protorevs/0-1m.rev': Permission denied I've read and executed permissions on numerous tutorials regarding this errors, all without success. I've defined the owner as apache or nobody and different permissions for folders and files. I'm using TortoiseSVN to connect to the server. Some information that may find useful: I'm trying to perform commit through an external HTTP connection, like: svn commit http://example.com/svn/test SELinux is disabled. sestatus returns SELinux status: disabled Running the command to see the active processes of Apache, some processes are left with user/group "nobody". I tried changing the settings of Apache to not run with that user/group, but all my websites stopped working, returning this error: Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. • How to calculate power/energy taken by computer and screen

    - by r0ca
I need to investigate how much power my linux machine uses per week. I can take a look at the PSU but I would like to know how to calculate the average use of power it takes. I also need to know how much power a CRT screen use per week. Do I need to check the PSU Watt unit and Screen Watt usage and just add both to have the results? P.S. My english is not good, sorry about that! P.P.S. My question is not related to: http://superuser.com/questions/9946/how-to-choose-a-ups-calculate-power-for-a-new-pc

  • Problems starting autossh on boot [ubuntu]

    - by Ken
I'm trying to automatically start an SSH tunnel to my server on boot from a ubuntu box. I have an ubuntu box that's mounted on an 18-wheeler and is networked behind an air card. The box hosts a mysql database that i'm trying to have replicated when the aircard is connected. As I can never be sure of my IP and how many or which routers I'm behind I'm connected to my replication server with an SSH tunnel. I got that working using the following command: ssh -R 3307:localhost:3307 [email protected] Now I'd like that to start whenever the box is, and be alive all the time, so I installed auto-ssh and setup this little script: ID=xkenneth HOST=erdosmiller.com AUTOSSH_POLL=15 AUTOSSH_PORT=20000 AUTOSSH_GATETIME=30 AUTOSSH_DEBUG=yes AUTOSSH_PATH=/usr/bin/ssh export AUTOSSH_POLL AUTOSSH_DEBUG AUTOSSH_PATH AUTOSSH_GATETIME AUTOSSH_PORT autossh -2 -fN -M 20000 -R 3307:localhost:3306 ${ID}@${HOST} I've tried putting this scrip in /etc/init.d/ and using a post-up command in /etc/network/interfaces as well as putting it in /etc/network/if-up.d/. In both situations the script starts on boot, but the tunnel doesn't appear to be correctly established. The script works when run manually.

  • fast way to find network user computer on domain hogging all wan bandwidth

    - by dasko
i have a network of about 40 domain users and i have huge latency wan issues, like 1400ms for google.com pings. I have noticed that the problem goes away after everyone goes home for the day. I would like to know if i should use something like a hub with wireshark on the router or modem to see if there are any irregular activity. I am open to suggestions but i need to isolate which user has the bug. I am assuming it is either downloads or someone spamming out heavily and not knowing. It would be best to trace to ip number so i can just look into dns and find the pc hostname with the problem? This is the first client i have this problem with so never really needed to address it before but not suprised as users don't actually listen to any best practices that we have suggested. Please help, thanks. just to update, pc's to routers and other computers have ping latency of 1ms so it is right after i hit the wan, using tracert to a web site (random), that i get the massive delay in the responses. As well this is a dsl line with 5mb down and 650kb up (maybe upload saturation?) thanks.

  • Problems using Mesa demos

    - by Rodnower
Hello, I successfully installed Mesa with "yum install Mesa*" and downloaded MesaDemos-7.8.tar.gz archive. Now I try follow instructions from "Mesa3d.org - Download / Insall - Compiling and Installing - 1.5 Running the demos", but in progs/demos there is only *.c files, when I try to compile them, I get many similar errors like: gears.c:(.text+0x54): undefined reference to `glShadeModel' I guess that this is very noob question, and I understand that there is very simple solution, but I haven't any idea... In beggining of the file there are all necessary #includes: #include <math.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <string.h> #include <GL/glut.h> So I have some questions: Is there some Mesa forum on the web? Is there some compiled demos? Is there some site with well described examples of Mesa using? What I need for compile those examples? I have CentOS 5 Thank you for ahead.

  • Problems with image/file upload in MediaWiki on Windows 2008 Server R2, using wrong temp directory

    - by Lasse V. Karlsen
I have installed MediaWiki 1.15.2 under IIS as per the MediaWiki installation instructions for Windows 2008 Server. I have configured PHP to use a specific temp directory: upload_tmp_dir="C:\php\uploadtemp" I have specified that MediaWiki is allowed to upload: $wgEnableUploads = true; But when I try to upload an image, I get this error message in my browser: Internal error Could not find file "C:\Windows\Temp\php1AEA.tmp". Retrying will simply give me a new filename, but in the same location. The directory does not have any php* files in it, but since they're "temporary", they might be gone in a flash before Windows Explorer is able to show them so that might be a red herring. I've googled for this, and the most promising lead I found was on this page: Image upload problem - Is this bug fixed?, but since the text says "a bugfix was posted on the bug-report page", but provides no link to which bug page this relates to (php or mediawiki) nor the actual bug report, I've not found conclusively the bug report in question so that didn't help me much. Lots of pages indicates that this is a permission issue, so I tried setting permissions on c:\windows\temp as Modify by Everyone, still no dice. I tried changing the two system environment variables TEMP and TMP to point to C:\Temp instead, but MediaWiki still complains about not finding the file in C:\Windows\Temp. Note that I don't care a lot about where the files will actually be stored temporarily, so c:\windows\temp is fine by me. I do, however, care about them actually being uploaded correctly. Does anyone know of a fix, have any leads I can follow, or whatnot? The server is running Windows 2008 Server R2, all patches installed, and the PHP installed is 5.3.2, using IIS FastCGI.

  • Does static damage computer speakers?

    - by incarna
I recently got a new pair of Klipsch Promedia 2.1's for my laptop. I unplug my laptop a lot to take it around but today the audio plug touched my plug for my monitor and a bit of static came out of the speakers. I've heard some rumors that static can damage speakers but I've never investigated this problem myself since I previously used a desktop and never unplugged them. The volume was at a normal volume- am I just being paranoid? Or could having the speaker port touching other bits of metal damage my speakers?

  • Problems with LDAP auth in Apache, works only for one group

    - by tore-
Hi, I'm currently publishing some subversions repos within Apache: <Location /dev/> DAV svn SVNPath /opt/svn/repos/dev/ AuthType Basic AuthName "Subversion repo authentication" AuthBasicProvider ldap AuthzLDAPAuthoritative On AuthLDAPBindDN "CN=readonlyaccount,OU=Objects,DC=invalid,DC=now" AuthLDAPBindPassword readonlyaccountspassword AuthLDAPURL "ldap://invalid.domain:389/OU=Objects,DC=invalid,DC=domain?sAMAccountName?sub?(objectClass=*)" Require ldap-group cn=dev,ou=SVN,DC=invalid,DC=domain </Location> This setup works great, but now we want to give an LDAP group read only access to our repo, then my apache config looks like this: <Location /dev/> DAV svn SVNPath /opt/svn/repos/dev/ AuthType Basic AuthName "Subversion repo authentication" AuthBasicProvider ldap AuthzLDAPAuthoritative On AuthLDAPBindDN "CN=readonlyaccount,OU=Objects,DC=invalid,DC=now" AuthLDAPBindPassword readonlyaccountspassword AuthLDAPURL "ldap://invalid.domain:389/OU=Objects,DC=invalid,DC=domain?sAMAccountName?sub?(objectClass=*)" <Limit OPTIONS PROPFIND GET REPORT> Require ldap-group cn=dev-ro,ou=SVN,dc=invalid,dc=domain </Limit> <LimitExcept OPTIONS PROPFIND GET REPORT> Require ldap-group cn=dev-rw,ou=SVN,dc=invalid,dc=domain </LimitExcept> </Location> All of my user accounts is under: OU=Objects,DC=invalid,DC=domain All groups related to subversion is under: ou=SVN,dc=invalid,dc=domain The problem after modification, only users in the dev-ro LDAP group is able to authenticate. I know that authentication with LDAP works, since my apache logs show my usernames: 10.1.1.126 - tore [...] "GET /dev/ HTTP/1.1" 200 339 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (...)" 10.1.1.126 - - [...] "GET /dev/ HTTP/1.1" 401 501 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (...)" 10.1.1.126 - readonly [...] "GET /dev/ HTTP/1.1" 401 501 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (...) line = user in group dev-rw, 2. line is unauthenticated user, 3. line is unauthenticated user, authenticated as a user in group dev-ro So I think I've messed up my apache config. I restart my machine and all of a sudden, Windows doesn't load and instead I get: "Windows could not start beause the following file is missing or corrupt" \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM I don't have the original XP installation CD, although I do have another copy of XP, when I try and boot to it, I get the blue 'STOP' screen after it attempts to load the setup utlity for about a minute. Can someone please help? When I set up my new hard drive as a primary partition did this someone screw up my C: hard drive? Did it perhaps unmount it somehow? Any help would be fantastic. Thanks

  • Domain joined computer unable to access servers through VPN

    - by kscott
Our servers are in a virtual off site hosting center, our office has a vpn connection to the data center, but for reasons I don't understand we also have to connect to the Citrix Access Gateway (CAG) client in order to access the servers. I am a programmer with rather limited ops knowledge including a weak grasp of networking and terminology. Bear with me. I was just given a new laptop, which is a 64 bit Windows 7 system unlike my previous 32 bit Windows XP desktop which was able to connect without issue. My laptop has been joined to the domain so that I login with my AD credentials, I am able to connect to the CAG and get authenticated, and after doing this I can ping our servers and they resolve to the correct internal IP addresses, but I am unable to use remote desktop to the servers, connect to SQL servers through my local SQL Management Studio, navigate to them through the file system, or view any of our internal intranet websites. All of which I was able to do previously. I have tried turning off my Windows firewall and the problem remains, the DNS servers are set to the correct IPs of our domain controllers, and the ops guys here are a little stumped. Does any one have any suggestions?

  • problems with Apache on Snow Leopard

    - by Hristo
I kind of screwed up the Apache "stuff" on my Mac. Usually when I visit http://localhost/, I would see the "It Works!" but now it just lists the directory and files inside /Library/WebServer/Documents. When I try to stop/start/restart the server with sudo apachectl stop, I get: httpd: Syntax error on line 68 of /etc/apache2/httpd.conf: Cannot load /usr/libexec/apache2/mod_disk_cache.so into server: dlopen(/usr/libexec/apache2/mod_disk_cache.so, 10): Symbol not found: _apr_file_info_get$INODE64\n Referenced from: /usr/libexec/apache2/mod_disk_cache.so\n Expected in: flat namespace\n in /usr/libexec/apache2/mod_disk_cache.so I don't want to do the MacPorts install, I tried it earlier but... I just want to do it via source code with the usual ./configure, make, make install. Any ideas on how to get this working? Is there a way to totally remove Apache and then reinstall a fresh version? Thanks, Hristo
