  • How can I optimize the SELECT statement running on an Oracle database?

    - by Elvis Lou
    I have a SELECT statement in ORACLE: SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT ds1.endpoint_msisdn) multiple30, dss1.service, dss1.endpoint_provisioning_id, dss1.company_scope, Nvl(x.subscription_status, dss1.subscription_status) subscription_status FROM daily_summary ds1 join daily_summary ds2 ON ds1.endpoint_msisdn = ds2.endpoint_msisdn, daily_summary_static dss1, daily_summary_static dss2, (SELECT NULL subscription_status FROM dual UNION ALL SELECT -2 subscription_status FROM dual) x WHERE ds1.summary_ts >= To_date('10-04-2012', 'dd-mm-yyyy') - 30 AND ds1.summary_ts <= To_date('10-04-2012', 'dd-mm-yyyy') AND dss1.last_active >= To_date('10-04-2012', 'dd-mm-yyyy') - 30 AND dss1.last_active <= To_date('10-04-2012', 'dd-mm-yyyy') AND dss2.last_active >= To_date('10-04-2012', 'dd-mm-yyyy') - 30 AND dss2.last_active <= To_date('10-04-2012', 'dd-mm-yyyy') AND dss1.service <> dss2.service AND ( dss1.company_scope = 2 OR dss1.company_scope = 5 ) AND ( dss2.company_scope = 2 OR dss2.company_scope = 5 ) AND dss1.company_scope = dss2.company_scope AND ds1.endpoint_noc_id = dss1.endpoint_noc_id AND ds1.endpoint_host_id = dss1.endpoint_host_id AND ds1.endpoint_instance_id = dss1.endpoint_instance_id AND ds2.endpoint_noc_id = dss2.endpoint_noc_id AND ds2.endpoint_host_id = dss2.endpoint_host_id AND ds2.endpoint_instance_id = dss2.endpoint_instance_id AND dss1.endpoint_provisioning_id = dss2.endpoint_provisioning_id AND Least(1, ds1.total_actions) = 1 AND Least(1, ds2.total_actions) = 1 GROUP BY dss1.service, dss1.endpoint_provisioning_id, dss1.company_scope, Nvl(x.subscription_status, dss1.subscription_status); This query took about 26 minutes to return in my environment, but if I remove the section: dss1.last_active >= to_date('10-04-2012','dd-mm-yyyy') - 30 AND dss1.last_active <= to_date('10-04-2012','dd-mm-yyyy') AND dss2.last_active >= to_date('10-04-2012','dd-mm-yyyy') - 30 AND dss2.last_active <= to_date('10-04-2012','dd-mm-yyyy') AND it only took 20 seconds to run. We have index on the column last_active, I don't know why the section slow down the performance so much? any ideas?

  • What are the reasons *not* to use a GUID for a primary key?

    - by Yarin
    Whenever I design a database I automatically start with an auto-generating GUID primary key for each of my tables (excepting look-up tables) I know I'll never lose sleep over duplicate keys, merging tables, etc. To me it just makes sense philosophically that any given record should be unique across all domains, and that that uniqueness should be represented in a consistent way from table to table. I realize it will never be the most performant option, but putting performance aside, I'd like to know if there are philosophical arguments against this practice?

  • Insert multiple records from a XML string differing on one parameter in SQL SERVER 2008

    - by Rohit
    Below in a query which inserts records to SimpleDictationProfileMapping table after reading it from a XML string. Now this query inserts a single record in which DictationCaptureProfileID is @dictationCaptureProfileId . Now i want to insert multiple rows in which @dictationCaptureProfileId is different and other 2 values are same. What i want to achieve by this is in case parent changes all child values should also change. INSERT INTO SimpleDictationProfileMapping ( DictationCaptureProfileID, DictationProfileMappingAttributeID, DictationProfileMappingAttributeValue ) SELECT @dictationCaptureProfileId, row.value('@attrId','varchar(max)'), row.value('@value', 'varchar(max)') FROM @simpleDictationCaptureProfileMappings.nodes('/simpleMappingAtribute/attribute') AS d ( row ) ; I want INSERT INTO SimpleDictationProfileMapping ( DictationCaptureProfileID OR (SELECT DictationCaptureProfileID FROM DictationCaptureProfile WHERE SystemDictationCaptureProfileID = @systemDictationCaptureProfileID), DictationProfileMappingAttributeID, DictationProfileMappingAttributeValue ) SELECT @dictationCaptureProfileId , row.value('@attrId','varchar(max)'), row.value('@value', 'varchar(max)') FROM @simpleDictationCaptureProfileMappings.nodes ('/simpleMappingAtribute/attribute') AS d ( row ) ; Please tell how to achieve this.

  • Need help with a conditional SELECT statement

    - by Ethan
    I've got a stored procedure with a select statement, like this: `SELECT author_ID, author_name, author_bio FROM Authors WHERE author_ID in (SELECT author_ID from Books) ` This limits results to authors who have book records. This is the Books table: Books book_ID INT author_ID INT book_title NVARCHAR featured_book BIT What I want to do is conditionally select the ID of the featured book by each author as part of the select statement above, and if none of the books for a given author are featured, select the ID of the first (top 1) book by the author from the books table. How do I approach this?

  • Non-Access or -base QBE tool?

    - by idbin.cath0br0
    Hello. I'm currently looking for a QBE tool that can execute queries on PostgreSQL or MySQL. OS doesn't really matter. Reason is that we've got to do QBE at school but I don't want to use neither Microsoft Access nor OpenOffice.org Base (lack of features). Any help would be appreciated.

  • Loading Fact Table + Lookup / UnionAll for SK lookups.

    - by Nev_Rahd
    I got to populate FactTable with 12 lookups to dimension table to get SK's, of which 6 are to different Dim Tables and rest 6 are lookup to same DimTable (type II) doing lookup to same natural key. Ex: PrimeObjectID = lookup to DimObject.ObjectID = get ObjectSK and got other columns which does same OtherObjectID1 = lookup to DimObject.ObjectID = get ObjectSK OtherObjectID2 = lookup to DimObject.ObjectID = get ObjectSK OtherObjectID3 = lookup to DimObject.ObjectID = get ObjectSK OtherObjectID4 = lookup to DimObject.ObjectID = get ObjectSK OtherObjectID5 = lookup to DimObject.ObjectID = get ObjectSK for such multiple lookup how should go in my SSIS package. for now am using lookup / unionall foreach lookup. Is there a better way to this.

  • How to get an id from the results in two tables

    - by Chris Lively
    Consider an order. An order will have one or more line items. Each line item is for a particular product. Given a filter table with a couple of products, how would I get the order id's that had at least all of the products listed in the second table? table Orders( OrderId int ) table LineItems ( OrderId int, LineItemId int, ProductId int ) table Filter ( ProductId int ) data Orders OrderId -------- 1 2 3 LineItems OrderId LineItemId ProductId ------- ---------- --------- 1 1 401 1 2 502 2 3 401 3 4 401 3 5 603 3 6 714 Filter ProductId --------- 401 603 Desired result of the query: OrderId: 3

  • MySQL db Audit Trail Trigger

    - by Natkeeran
    I need to track changes (audit trail) in certain tables in a MySql Db. I am trying to implement the solution suggested here. I have an AuditLog Table with the following columns: AuditLogID, TableName, RowPK, FieldName, OldValue, NewValue, TimeStamp. The mysql stored procedure is the following (this executes fine, and creates the procedure): The call to the procedure such as: CALL addLogTrigger('ProductTypes', 'ProductTypeID'); executes, but does not create any triggers (see the image). SHOW TRIGGERS returns empty set. Please let me know what could be the issue, or an alternate way to implement this. DROP PROCEDURE IF EXISTS addLogTrigger; DELIMITER $ CREATE PROCEDURE addLogTrigger(IN tableName VARCHAR(255), IN pkField VARCHAR(255)) BEGIN SELECT CONCAT( 'DELIMITER $\n', 'CREATE TRIGGER ', tableName, '_AU AFTER UPDATE ON ', tableName, ' FOR EACH ROW BEGIN ', GROUP_CONCAT( CONCAT( 'IF NOT( OLD.', column_name, ' <=> NEW.', column_name, ') THEN INSERT INTO AuditLog (', 'TableName, ', 'RowPK, ', 'FieldName, ', 'OldValue, ', 'NewValue' ') VALUES ( ''', table_name, ''', NEW.', pkField, ', ''', column_name, ''', OLD.', column_name, ', NEW.', column_name, '); END IF;' ) SEPARATOR ' ' ), ' END;$' ) FROM information_schema.columns WHERE table_schema = database() AND table_name = tableName; END$ DELIMITER ;

  • Linq ChangeConflictException (ASP.NET MVC) - occurs when submitting DataContext changes

    - by Alex
    System.Data.Linq.ChangeConflictException: 2 of X updates failed. at System.Data.Linq.ChangeProcessor.SubmitChanges(ConflictMode failureMode) at System.Data.Linq.DataContext.SubmitChanges(ConflictMode failureMode) at PROJECT.Controllers.HomeController.ClickProc(Int32 id, String code, String n) This is what I get very often. This action is done thousands of times a day, and I get this exception about once every 5 seconds. From what I understand it happens when something changes in the database in the period between creating DataContext and updating it. Am I right? What's the problem here and how can I fix it?

  • Advanced LINQ Update Statement

    - by user1902490
    I have a data base with Price_old like: Date --- Hour --- Price _____________________________ Jan 1 --- 1 --- $3.0 Jan 1 --- 2 --- $3.1 Jan 1 --- 3 --- $3.3 Jan 1 --- 4 --- $3.15 Jan 2 --- 1 --- $2.95 Jan 2 --- 2 --- $3.2 Jan 2 --- 3 --- $3.05 What I then have is a spreadsheet, with the same structure, that I will be reading into a datatable, I'll call the new datatable Price_New, note that price new may not have all the same date/hours as Price_Old So, I end up with 2 datatables, Price_Old, and Price_New, and what I need to do is update Price_old with the new prices in Price_New, and then commit those new prices to the Database. I am kinda new to LINQ (about 30 mins of experience) and would really appreciate if someone could give me a pointer or two on whether or not this is doing in LINQ and what the best method would be. Thanks

  • Does clustered index on foreign key column increase join performance vs non-clustered ?

    - by alpav
    In many places it's recommended that clustered indexes are better utilized when used to select range of rows using BETWEEN statement. When I select joining by foreign key field in such a way that this clustered index is used, I guess, that clusterization should help too because range of rows is being selected even though they all have same clustered key value and BETWEEN is not used. Considering that I care only about that one select with join and nothing else, am I wrong with my guess ?

  • RDLC item width is dynamic and causing extra pages to be generated (image included)?

    - by Paul Mendoza
    I'm trying to format an RDLC report file in Visual Studio 2008 and I am having a formatting issue. I have a list at the bottom that contains a matrix that expands horizontally to the right. That pink box is just to visualize the problem I'm having. When the report is rendered the matrix expands and instead of filling the pink box with the matrix is pushes the space in the pink box to the right resulting in an extra page when printing the reports. One solution would be to shrink the pink box to be the size of the matrix which I've done. But then when the matrix grows the fields at the top of the report get pushed to the right by the same amount as the growth of the matrix. Can someone please let me know what they think the solution would be? Thank you!

  • Creating a [materialised]view from generic data in Oracle/Mysql

    - by Andrew White
    I have a generic datamodel with 3 tables CREATE TABLE Properties ( propertyId int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, name varchar(80) NOT NULL ) CREATE TABLE Customers ( customerId int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, customerName varchar(80) NOT NULL ) CREATE TABLE PropertyValues ( propertyId int(11) NOT NULL, customerId int(11) NOT NULL, value varchar(80) NOT NULL ) INSERT INTO Properties VALUES (1, 'Age'); INSERT INTO Properties VALUES (2, 'Weight'); INSERT INTO Customers VALUES (1, 'Bob'); INSERT INTO Customers VALUES (2, 'Tom'); INSERT INTO PropertyValues VALUES (1, 1, '34'); INSERT INTO PropertyValues VALUES (2, 1, '80KG'); INSERT INTO PropertyValues VALUES (1, 2, '24'); INSERT INTO PropertyValues VALUES (2, 2, '53KG'); What I would like to do is create a view that has as columns all the ROWS in Properties and has as rows the entries in Customers. The column values are populated from PropertyValues. e.g. customerId Age Weight 1 34 80KG 2 24 53KG I'm thinking I need a stored procedure to do this and perhaps a materialised view (the entries in the table "Properties" change rarely). Any tips?
