  • How to fix IllegalStateException error when trying to update a listview?

    - by Michael Vetrano
    Hi guys, I am trying to get this code to run, but I get an IllegalStateException when I run this code saying that the content of the listview wasn't notified, yet I have a notification upon updating the data. This is a custom listview adapter. Here is the relevant part of my code: class LoadingThread extends Thread { public void run() { int itemsOriginallyLoaded = 0; synchronized( items ) { itemsOriginallyLoaded = items.size(); } for( int i = itemsOriginallyLoaded ; i < itemsToLoad ; ++i ) { Log.d( LOG_TAG, "Loading item #"+i ); //String item = "FAIL"; //try { String item = "FAIL"; try { item = stockGrabber.getStockString(dataSource.get(i)); } catch (ApiException e) { Log.e(LOG_TAG, "Problem making API request", e); } catch (ParseException e) { Log.e(LOG_TAG, "Problem parsing API request", e); } //} catch (ApiException e) { // Log.e(TAG, "Problem making API request", e); //} catch (ParseException e) { // Log.e(TAG, "Problem parsing API request", e); //} synchronized( items ) { items.add( item ); } itemsLoaded = i+1; uiHandler.post( updateTask ); Log.d( LOG_TAG, "Published item #"+i ); } if( itemsLoaded >= ( dataSource.size() - 1 ) ) allItemsLoaded = true; synchronized( loading ) { loading = Boolean.FALSE; } } } class UIUpdateTask implements Runnable { public void run() { Log.d( LOG_TAG, "Publishing progress" ); notifyDataSetChanged(); } }

  • How to create new account using servlets

    - by Alvin
I want to know how can I create new account using servlets in post method? I'm currently following MVC design pattern, and I want to know if I pass the required data to register new account from JSP page, then how can I get that data in post method? As request.getParameter() method returning me null. How can I know that post method is calling to create new account? How can I pass all the relevant user information from servlets to model class for registering data to the database table?

  • Clean up upon the kill signal

    - by Begui
How do you handle clean up when the program receives a kill signal? For instance, there is an application I connect to that wants any third party app (my app) to send a finish command. What is the best say to send that finish command when my app has been destroyed with a kill -9?

  • How to make safe frequent DataSource switches for AbstractRoutingDataSource?

    - by serg555
I implemented Dynamic DataSource Routing for Spring+Hibernate according to this article. I have several databases with same structure and I need to select which db will run each specific query. Everything works fine on localhost, but I am worrying about how this will hold up in real web site environment. They are using some static context holder to determine which datasource to use: public class CustomerContextHolder { private static final ThreadLocal<CustomerType> contextHolder = new ThreadLocal<CustomerType>(); public static void setCustomerType(CustomerType customerType) { Assert.notNull(customerType, "customerType cannot be null"); contextHolder.set(customerType); } public static CustomerType getCustomerType() { return (CustomerType) contextHolder.get(); } public static void clearCustomerType() { contextHolder.remove(); } } It is wrapped inside some ThreadLocal container, but what exactly does that mean? What will happen when two web requests call this piece of code in parallel: CustomerContextHolder.setCustomerType(CustomerType.GOLD); //<another user will switch customer type here to CustomerType.SILVER in another request> List<Item> goldItems = catalog.getItems(); Is every web request wrapped into its own thread in Spring MVC? Will CustomerContextHolder.setCustomerType() changes be visible to other web users? My controllers have synchronizeOnSession=true. How to make sure that nobody else will switch datasource until I run required query for current user? Thanks.

  • Using thread inter-communication to increase my server app's IO throughput; not sure how

    - by Howard Guo
My server application creates a new thread for each incoming connection. Incoming requests are serialized in a BlockingQueue. There is one worker thread taking items from the queue, produce a response and send the response through socket. I have noticed a throughput issue: Currently, worker thread is responsible of sending the response message through socket, thus severely wasting processing power and throughput. I am considering: rather than sending the response itself, why not telling network IO threads to send the response? However, when I think about thread inter-communication, I cannot yet figure out how to approach it: Worker thread will produce a response, but how will it inform the response message to IO thread? Is there a standard/best practice? Thank you.

  • Draw a position from a 2d Array on respected canvas location

    - by Anon
Background: I have two 2d arrays. Each index within each 2d array represents a tile which is drawn on a square canvas suitable for 8 x 8 tiles. The first 2d array represents the ground tiles and is looped and drawn on the canvas using the following code: //Draw the map from the land 2d array map = new Canvas(mainFrame, 20, 260, 281, 281); for(int i=0; i < world.length; i++){ for(int j=0; j < world[i].length; j++){ for(int x=0; x < 280; x=x+35){ for(int y=0; y < 280; y=y+35){ Point p = new Point(x,y); map.add(new RectangleObject(p,35,35,Colour.green)); } } } } This creates a grid of green tiles 8 x 8 across as intended. The second 2d array represents the position on the ground. This 2d array has everyone of its indexes as null apart from one which is comprised of a Person class. Problem I am unsure of how I can draw the position on the grid. I was thinking of a similar loop, so it draws over the previous 2d array another set of 64 tiles. Only this time they are all transparent but the one tile which isn't null. In other words, the tile where Person is located. I wanted to use a search throughout the loop using a comparative if statement along the lines of if(!(world[] == null)){ map.add(new RectangleObject(p,35,35,Colour.red));} However my knowledge is limited and I am confused on how to implement it.

  • Client-side framework for web-app with good audio support

    - by Poita_
I'm trying to create a client-side web app that generates music procedurally using some user-input parameters, so I'm looking for a framework (e.g. Flash, Silverlight etc.) that has the capability to play audio at a specified pitch. Whether it is playing a WAV/MP3 file, using MIDI output, or just playing beeps doesn't really matter -- I just need something that will enable me to generate arbitrary music client-side. I've done a bit of searching and it appears that Flash might have the ability to change pitch with the help of a third-part plugin, but I couldn't find anything similar for Silverlight. I can go a try all them out manually if need be, but I thought I'd ask here first just in case anyone had tried something like this before. Thanks in advance

  • How to set an empty value using XPath?

    - by Ricardo
Using this xml example: <templateitem itemid="5"> <templateitemdata>%ARN%</templateitemdata> </templateitem> <templateitem itemid="6"> <templateitemdata></templateitemdata> </templateitem> I am using XPath to get and set Node values. The code I am using to get the nodes is: private static Node ***getNode***(Document doc, String XPathQuery) throws XPathExpressionException { XPath xpath = XPathFactory.newInstance().newXPath(); XPathExpression expr = xpath.compile(XPathQuery); Object result = expr.evaluate(doc, XPathConstants.NODESET); NodeList nodes = (NodeList) result; if(nodes != null && nodes.getLength() >0) return nodes.item(0); throw new XPathExpressionException("No node list found for " + XPathQuery); } To get %ARN% value: "//templateitem[@itemid=5]/templateitemdata/text()" and with the getNode method I can get the node, and then call the getNodeValue(). Besides getting that value, I would like to set templateitemdata value for the "templateitem[@itemid=6]" since its empty. But the code I use can't get the node since its empty. The result is null. Do you know a way get the node so I can set the value?

  • Spring MVC 3 - How come @ResponseBody method renders a JSTLView?

    - by Ken Chen
I have mapped one of my method in one Controller to return JSON object by @ResponseBody. @RequestMapping("/{module}/get/{docId}") public @ResponseBody Map<String, ? extends Object> get(@PathVariable String module, @PathVariable String docId) { Criteria criteria = new Criteria("_id", docId); return genericDAO.getUniqueEntity(module, true, criteria); } However, it redirects me to the JSTLView instead. Say, if the {module} is product and {docId} is 2, then in the console I found: DispatcherServlet with name 'xxx' processing POST request for [/xxx/product/get/2] Rendering view [org.springframework.web.servlet.view.JstlView: name 'product/get/2'; URL [/WEB-INF/views/jsp/product/get/2.jsp]] in DispatcherServlet with name 'xxx' How can that be happened? In the same Controller, I have another method similar to this but it's running fine: @RequestMapping("/{module}/list") public @ResponseBody Map<String, ? extends Object> list(@PathVariable String module, @RequestParam MultiValueMap<String, String> params, @RequestParam(value = "page", required = false) Integer pageNumber, @RequestParam(value = "rows", required = false) Integer recordPerPage) { ... return genericDAO.list(module, criterias, orders, pageNumber, recordPerPage); } Above do returns correctly providing me a list of objects I required. Anyone to help me solve the mystery?

  • Comparing text files w/ Junit

    - by jon077
I am comparing text files in junit using: public static void assertReaders(BufferedReader expected, BufferedReader actual) throws IOException { String line; while ((line = expected.readLine()) != null) { assertEquals(line, actual.readLine()); } assertNull("Actual had more lines then the expected.", actual.readLine()); assertNull("Expected had more lines then the actual.", expected.readLine()); } Is this a good way to compare text files? What is preferred?

  • ArrayList<String> NullPointerException

    - by Carlucho
Am trying to solve a labyrinth by DFS, using adj List to represent the vertices and edges of the graph. In total there are 12 nodes (3 rows[A,B,C] * 4 cols[0,..,3]). My program starts by saving all the vertex labels (A0,..C3), so far so good, then checks the adjacent nodes, also no problems, if movement is possible, it proceeds to create the edge, here its where al goes wrong. adjList[i].add(vList[j].label); I used the debugger and found that vList[j].label is not null it contains a correct string (ie. "B1"). The only variables which show null are in adjList[i], which leads me to believe i have implemented it wrongly. this is how i did it. public class GraphList { private ArrayList<String>[] adjList; ... public GraphList(int vertexcount) { adjList = (ArrayList<String>[]) new ArrayList[vertexCount]; ... } ... public void addEdge(int i, int j) { adjList[i].add(vList[j].label); //NULLPOINTEREXCEPTION HERE } ... } I will really appreaciate if anyone can point me on the right track regrading to what its going wrong... Thanks!

  • Servlet request getparameter's performance

    - by Bob
Hi, I noticed that my app is very slow sometimes, so I've done some tests. It's a very simple web app. One servlet gets some parameters than stores them. Everything's fine except one thing. It takes too long to get a parameter for the first time. It doesn't matter which parameter I try to get, but for the first time it is very slow. The strange thing is this doesn't happen always. Sometimes getting a parameter for the first time is not slow. My code looks like this request.getParameter("paramName"); request.getParameter("paramName2"); request.getParameter("paramName3"); Getting "paramName" is slow. Getting the others is very fast. By slow I mean : 200-800 millisec By very fast I mean: ~0 millisec (in the code snippet, I didn't write the performance test, but I'm using System.currentTimeMillis())

  • Refactored App Engine project - now Eclipse is infinitely building the project without end

    - by Yog
I renamed some files in my App Engine project and refactored code, changing references to variables. Everything seemed fine until I changed the references in the web.xml for the project. Then I got a complaint about some error with the DataNucleus enhancer and now the project build process is stuck at 22%. I tried stopping Eclipse and restarting but the build process keeps hanging. Any tips on how to clean out whatever it's getting stuck on?

  • Restrict number of lines in html JLabel

    - by Mike
I have a JLabel that needs to display some html-formatted text. However, I want to restrict this to being 4 lines long (and if so, provide a button to see everything). So far, I've tried setting the maximum size manually or via a layout manager. However, both of these solutions can cause part of a line to be displayed.

Icelandic i3 = new Icelandic(); 14. i3 = i1; i1 = i2; i2 = null; i3 = i1; 15. } 16. } When line 14 is reached, how many objects are eligible for the garbage collector?   • How do i change this method to get strings instead of ints

    - by David
here is the original code: public static int getInt () { Scanner in = new Scanner (System.in) ; if (in.hasNextInt()) { int a = in.nextInt() ; return a ; } else { System.out.println ("try again:") ; return getInt () ; } } This checks and sees if the input it receives is an int. If it is then it returns the int, if not it tells you to try again and re-runs. This is what i tried to do to change it: public static String getIns () { Scanner in = new Scanner (System.in) ; if (in.hasNextString()) { String a = in.nextString() ; return a ; } else { System.out.println ("try again:") ; return getIns () ; } } This doesn't work though. I looked through the documentation for the scanner class and i think the problem is that there is no such method as in.hasNextString or in.nextString What methods from the scanner class can i use to do what i intend these to do?

  • How can I get jsonp to play nice with my class?

    - by George Edison
This whole jsonp thing is quite confusing... Here is what I want to do: I have a class DataRetriever The class has a method GetData GetData makes a jsonp request with the following code: var new_tag = document.createElement('script'); new_tag.type = 'text/javascript'; new_tag.src = 'http://somesite.com/somemethod?somedata'; // Add the element var bodyRef = document.getElementsByTagName("body").item(0); bodyRef.appendChild(new_tag); Now, the jsonp data from the server somesite.com can call a function in my code with the data. The problem is, how does the data get delivered to the instance of DataRetriever that requested it? I'm really stuck here.

  • Stub web calls in Scala

    - by Dennis Laumen
I'm currently writing a wrapper of the Spotify Metadata API to learn Scala. Everything's fine and dandy but I'd like to unit test the code. To properly do this I'll need to stub the Spotify API and get consistent return values (stuff like popularity of tracks changes very frequently). Does anybody know how to stub web calls in Scala, the JVM in general or by using some external tool I could hook up into my Maven setup? PS I'm basically looking for something like Ruby's FakeWeb... Thanks in advance!
