• Enable Hardware Virtualization on HP CompaqDX2420?

  Hey Guys, After installing vmware7, I tried to run a virtual machine with Mac OSX installed. When I tried to run this virtual machine I got an error message saying: Mac OS X is not supported with software virtualization. To run Mac OS X you need a host on which VMware Workstation supports hardware virtualization. I'v googled and found out that my processor (Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 Processor (2.93 GHz, 3 MB L2 cache, 1066 Mhz FSB)supports Hardware virtualization. Does anyone know how to enable this in order to get this virtual machine running?

  I am upgrading the memory on a Dell PowerEdge 1800 Server running Windows Server 2000 (32 bit). My Computer Properties currently reports "2,096,432 KB RAM" (4 modules @ 512MB each). Crucial.com scan reports: "Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 2GB per slot. Maximum Memory Capacity:  12288MB Currently Installed Memory:  2GB Available Memory Slots:  2 Total Memory Slots:  6 Dual Channel Support:   No CPU Manufacturer:  GenuineIntel CPU Family:  Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 2.80GHz Model 4, Stepping 1 CPU Speed:  2793 MHz Installed in pairs of modules." We will be completely replacing the old 512 MB modules. Will there be any performance difference between installing 4 modules @ 1GB vs. 2 modules @ 2GB?

Only nvidia drivers where updated 3 days ago and they are up to date for now(version 296.10). • I bought a motherboard that supports DDR3 RAM

  I bought this ASUS Sabertooth X58 motherboard from http://msy.com.au/product.jsp?productId=7301 But I'm not sure what DDR3 RAM to buy. I haven't built a PC from scratch in about 3 years, and I'm wondering the following Do DDR3 ram chips need to be installed in three at a time? Or can I just install one or two now and install more later without any particular pattern? If I buy 2000MHz RAM from Corsair, will that work at 1866 MHz? (which is the highest frequency the motherboard supports) Is it just me or is 1866 RAM not around? Any help is greatly appreciated.

• Router's ssid changes from infrastructure to ad-hoc

  For a period of time the router's ssid is shown (on various computers) as a normal infrastructure network - computers connect fine and everything works however after a few minutes / hours all computers see the same ssid as an ad-hoc network (not infrastructure). At this point a computer that was already connected continues to work - a computer that isn't cannot connect. Rebooting the router temporarily restores the visibility of the correct infrastructure ssid. Is something interfering? • EEE PC 701/4G Surf Internal Drive: Is it really SSD?

  I have an old EEE PC with the 4 Gig internal drive. Everything I've read keeps saying it's an SSD drive; running lshw tells me that it's an ATA disk, Silicon Motion SM. The thing seems to be rather slow, though. I know it has a 900 Mhz Celeron processor and only 512 meg of RAM, but it seems like drive access is slow even for those specs. Does anyone know if it really has an SSD drive? I thought that compared to regular hard disks SSD's were blazing fast, and this feels like and acts like it's pulling from something more akin to an internal USB memory stick.

What softwares or other ways can control my CPU frequency? My OSes are Windows XP and Ubuntu. Can I control CPU frequency so that the CPU temperature can be controlled not to exceed some temperature? • Streaming media from linux server - low footprint is crucial

  I recently pre-ordered the Raspberry Pi. http://www.raspberrypi.org/faqs For those of you who don't know it, it's a machine with 256 mb ram and a 700 MHz processor for $35. I plan to run linux on an SD card on this machine and have it act as both a htpc, VPN and media server. In regard to the media server part, I need to find some linux software that has a small footprint, but allows me to stream media to other devices connected to the internet (preferably without having to install any additional software on the client machines) Also, I would love if the video could be compressed, so the data usage wouldn't be so big for the client machine (e.g. when I'm using my data plan on my smartphone ;) ) Thanks in advance for any answers :) Mike.

• Does dual-channel work only with an even number of RAM sticks?

  I have noticed that on the ASUS P5QL Pro motherboard the BIOS says "Dual Channel Asymmetric Mode" during POST. The motherboard has three 2GB Kingston ValueRAM 800 MHz DIMMs populated in the first 3 slots from the CPU socket. I have not run any benchmarks to verify that dual-channel is somehow being used, but I believed that dual-channel has to have an even number of sticks (and for triple channel, a multiple of 3). Another example is the Intel DX58SO motherboard; it has four DIMM slots, yet it's an LGA 1366 motherboard which does triple-channel. Apparently triple-channel still works with four DIMMs, instead of falling back to dual-channel. What does the BIOS' POST message mean in those case? Is dual-channel really used for the first two DIMMs, with the other one being an odd one in single-channel mode?

• Patriot-2 RAM on ASUS PK5-E not running at PC2-8500?

  I have a P5K-E Motherboard and recently upgraded to 8GB of RAM (4 2GB sticks of PC2-8500 1066 MHz - Patriot Viper 2). When looking at the RAM with PC Wizard 2010 it's showing the RAM being recognized PC2-6500. I've read elsewhere that this is a common problem and requires manually changing the DRAM Voltage in BIOS to 2.2. I've done this and I'm still getting it recognized as PC2-6500. (I also manually set the FSB speed to 1066MHz instead of the AUTO). Any ideas on how to get this memory working properly? Thanks in advance!

  I have this little snapgear firewall. It's a little purpose built box running a custom linux, SH4 processor @240 Mhz, 64MB of ram. Basically how close we are to capacity is a mystery to me. I know I can run top and see the status of all the processes, but how can I see just how much of the processor is going to passing data... and how to estimate when I'm going to need to upgrade, and by tweaking iptables rules, how does that help/hurt the processor. suggestions?

• Need to upgrade DDR2 RAM on HP Desktop

  I have this HP Pavilion Desktop. As you can see, that page says the memory speed supported is PC2-4200. It currently has a 512 MB stick - CPU-Z Screenshots: hxxp://i41.tinypic.com/j5clj6.jpg and hxxp://i39.tinypic.com/20tldlc.jpg However, a crucial.com scan gives a slightly different report - hxxp://crucial.com/systemscanner/viewscanbyid.aspx?id=5718CFE831D926C3 It says the system can support PC2-5300 memory. So my question is which one should I trust? I want to upgrade the computer's ram to 2 GB (the maximum supported), because XP Media Center is giving me problems and I will install Windows 7 on this. PC2-6400 is the most common DDR2 memory I have been able to find here in the market. Will it cause any problems if I install 2 × 1 GB PC2-6400 DDR2 memory sticks (in dual channel) in this computer, (afaik, it will just run at the lower speed of 533 MHz, or whatever the motherboard supports), or do I absolutely need to get PC2-4200 sticks?

• What are the specifications on the RAM inside my computer?

  I have a Dell Dimension 9200 that I bought 4 years ago. I want to find out the exact specifications (manufacturer, speed, timings, etc.). Is there a way to get this specific info without having to open up the PC (it's buried in and under a bunch of furniture, I'd perfer not to have to dig it out). All I know about it right now is that it is 4 1GB sticks of DDR2 RAM at 667 Mhz. It is the standard RAM that shipped with the computer 4 years ago (from Dell). Does anyone know what the specifications are of the RAM that Dell used in this particular model of computer 4 years ago? Note: I've done my research before coming here. CPU-Z, EVEREST, and AIDA32 all have been unable to give me any more information other than 4 x 1GB @ 667Mhz.   I have recurring BSODs that really have me scratching my head. Here's a look at the errors: MEMORY_MANAGEMENT 0x1A (ntoskrnl.exe) - I've seen this 9 times since April 2012 NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM 0x24 (Ntfs.sys) - this one's new, happend 4 days ago BAD_POOL_HEADER 0x19 (win32k.sys) - also new, happened 7 days ago My system specs: Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz ASUS Sabertooth P67 Motherboard (Rev 2) * RMA'd my Rev 1 due to recall 16GB (4 x 4GB) Kingston HyperX 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM 2 x 640GB Western Digital Caviar Black 64MB SATA HDD EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTS450 1GB PCI-E 2.0 Graphics Card I've got Windows 7 Home Premium and it's completely patched. I'm also running Microsoft Security Essentials, which is up-to-date and always present. I've run MemTest86+ from a USB drive for up to nine hours, giving my RAM a total of 6 passes, and it didn't detect a single error. I've used chkdsk in Windows 7 to scan the C:/ drive on boot (twice) and it found no problems. How can I find out what's causing all these blue screens?

• PC with 2 RAMs of different frequencies (1GB 533MHz + 2GB 667MHz) showing only 2GB RAM

  I have 6 years old PC with 1.25GB (1GB + 256MB) of DDR2 533MHz RAM. As computer has become very slow and memory usage reaching its limits most of the times, i decided to upgrade RAM. But unfortunately, im not finding retailers selling DDR2 533Mhz RAM near my area. Since I was not sure mixing up RAMs of different frequencies, i searched in web. Most results said they can be mixed but computer would run at lower frequency of the 2 RAMs. So I bought 2GB DDR2 667Mhz RAM expecting my pc to have 3GB RAM running at 533 MHz. But computer properties page shows only 2GB RAM. BIOS settings too show the slot with 2GB 667MHz as ACTIVE and other slot with 1GB 533MHz as "NOT INSTALLED". When I removed 2GB RAM, they computer shows only 1GB RAM. So for some reason, 1GB RAM is not getting detected/used. What is the problem here? thanks in advance.

• How do I get a 300Mbps connection over 802.11n?

  I just bought a new wireless setup, consisting of a Cisco E2000 router, Edimax 7718un USB adapter for my laptop and an Edimax 7728in PCI adapter for my HTPC (which isn't in a location I can run cat5 to). I have to stay in the 2.4GHz band because I have an iPhone and a Wii that will need to connect. I'm aware that 11g devices will drop speeds for 11n devices, but they aren't connected yet. The fastest connection I've been able to get, with the router within 5 feet of either the laptop or HTPC is 144Mbps. The router has settings for "20MHz" and "Auto (20 MHz or 40Mhz) channel width, which I've set to the "Auto" setting. I haven't been able to find anything similar for either of the Edimax adapters. This is the first I've dealt with 11n, so I'm not even sure what else could be causing a problem. How do I get up to 300Mbps, or at least a fair bit closer?

  Here are the specs to put things into context: ECS P4VXASD2+ (V5.0) motherboard Intel Pentium 4 Northwood 2.8 GHz (512 KB L2, 533 MHz FSB) 2x 512 MB PC2100 DDR266 RAM 128 MB NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 AGP WD Caviar SE 80 GB IDE HDD Gigabyte CD-RW drive OKIA 300W ATX PSU So, everytime I try to boot up this computer, it takes at least 10-15 seconds before it will POST. All my other machines will post within 1-2 seconds, but this one takes a particularly long time. I've read suggestions from a Google search to swap the CMOS battery, check BIOS settings, and double check CMOS jumper. Still after follow those, it takes a while to POST. What else could be causing a long delay before POSTing?

I don't know what value to choose for my CPU. So I'm running that CPU in "Safe Mode". What is the correct value for this CPU? Is Safe Mode really safe to run this CPU?

• Weird RAM Upgrade Experience

  I have a laptop, HP EliteBook 8540p having originally 4GB RAM and I've recently bought Corsair Value Select SO-DIMM 16 Go (2x 8 Go) DDR3 1333 MHz. It fits the required RAM specifications perfectly, and once I've inserted them, the BIOS recognizes the memory correctly, but my linux Gentoo running on kernel 3.1.6 SMP x86_64 crashes immediately when I'm running an app which consumes a lot of memory. The laptop crashes as if there's no more battery left, when the memory reaches at least 6000MB ram. Windows 7 doesn't want to run anymore, it shows a blue screen with the IRQ LESS OR EQUAL error if I set 8GB, and it doesn't boot at all if I set 16GB. Is there something I could do to fix this please ?
