  • DPM - Monitoring is green, Protection has error and Latest rec point is old. How do I interpret that?

    How do I read the DPM info in this case? Monitoring says Failed but Protection shows Ok while having a Latest recovery point from last year. Under Monitoring tab I have Failed for Source | Computer | Protection group | Start time Computer\System Protection | MyServerName | Recovery point | 2014-06-09 19:00:00 which shows me that something happened last night. But under Protection tab everything is green. Here I have Protection group member | | Protection status Protection group ..name.. Computer: MyServerName Computer\System protection Bare metal recovery OK ... Latest recovery point: 2013-12-12 06:32:54 My guess is that backup failed last night once, but succeeded later. It then found out that there hasn't been any change since sometime last year and leave it be and flags Ok.

But, he notes, you can do so much more if you design the parts yourself. Mike Splain,EVP, OracleYou can, for example, design cryptographic accelerators into your microprocessors so customers can run their networks fully encrypted if they choose.Of course, it helps if you've already built multiple processing "cores" into those chips so they can handle all that encrypting and decrypting while still getting their other work done.System on a ChipAs the leader of Oracle Microelectronics, Mike knows how implementing clever innovations in silicon can give systems a real competitive advantage.The SPARC microprocessors that his team designed at Sun pioneered the concept of multiple cores several years ago, and the UltraSPARC T2 processor--the industry's first "system on a chip"--packs up to eight cores per chip, each running as many as eight threads at once. That's the most cores and threads of any general-purpose processor. Looking back, Mike points out that the real value of large enterprise-class servers was their ability to run a lot of very large applications in parallel."The beauty of our CMT [chip multi-threading] machines is you can get that same kind of parallel-processing capability at a much lower cost and in a much smaller footprint," he says.The Whole StackWhat has Mike excited these days is that suddenly the opportunity to innovate is much bigger as part of Oracle."In my group, we used to look up the software stack and say, 'We can do any innovation we want, provided the only thing we have to change is what's in the Solaris operating system'--or maybe Java," he says. "If we wanted to change things beyond that, we'd have to go outside the walls of Sun and we'd have to convince the vendors: 'You have to align with us, you have to test with us, you have to build for us, and then you'll reap the benefits.' Now we get access to the entire stack. We can look all the way through the stack and say, 'Okay, what would make the database go faster? What would make the middleware go faster?'"Changing the WorldMike and his microelectronics team also like the fact that Oracle is not just any software company. We're #1 in database, middleware, business intelligence, and more."We're like all the other engineers from Sun; we believe we can change the world, if we can just figure out how to get people to pay attention to us," he says. "Now there's a mechanism at Oracle--much more so than we ever had at Sun."He notes, too, that every innovation in SPARC has involved some combination of hardware and softwareoptimization."Take our cryptography framework, for example. Sure, we can accelerate rapidly, but the Solaris OS has to provide the right set of interfaces that applications can tap into," Mike says. "Same thing with our multicore architecture. We have to have software that can utilize all those threads and run in parallel." His engineers, he points out, have never been interested in producing chips that sell as mere components."Our chips are always designed to go into systems and be combined with various pieces of software," he says. "Our job is to enable the creation of systems."

    I have a string of data like below and I've been struggling trying to figure out how to split it up so that I can use it efficiently. "United States FirstName: Mike LastName: Wolf City: Chicago" I need to split up the string in to substrings and the list may not always be in the same order. For example it could vary like below: "United States City: Chicago FirstName: Mike LastName: Wolf" "United States FirstName: City: Chicago Mike LastName: Wolf" I need to find which parameter comes first after 'United States'. It could be 'City:', 'FirstName:' or 'LastName:'. And, I also need to know the start position of the first parameter. Thanks in advance!

    I'm confused with these colors. I noticed there are 4 colors showing in the left hand column of FireBug DOM tree: Bold black Black Bold green Green In the right hand column: Blue Red Bold green Green Multiple color elements representing object structures. What do this colors represent? And why, e.g, I can access window.document.URL and I can't access window.document.body in Console even though they are both in the "not-bold black" category in the DOM tree? Thanks a lot

    The latest series of ArchBeat podcast programs grew out of another virtual meet-up, held on March 11. As with previous meet-ups, I sent out a general invitation to the roster of previous ArchBeat panelists to join me on Skype to talk about whatever topic comes up. For this event, Oracle ACE Directors Mike van Alst and Jordan Braunstein  showed up, along with Oracle product manager Jeff Davies.  The result was an impressive and wide-ranging discussion on the evolution of Enterprise Architecture, the role of technology in EA, the impact of social computing, and challenge of having three generations of IT people at work in the enterprise – each with different perspectives on technology.   • Natural Language parsing of an appointment?

    I'm looking for a Java library to help parse user entered text that represents an 'appointment' for a calendar application. For instance: Lunch with Mike at 11:30 on Tuesday or 5pm Happy hour on Friday I've found some promising leads like https://jchronic.dev.java.net/ and http://www.datejs.com/ which can parse dates - but I also need to be able to extract the title of the event like "Lunch with Mike". If such an API doesn't exist, I'm also interested in any thoughts on how best to approach the problem from a coding perspective.

  • Use jQuery to find div by background color

    I'm trying to use jQuery to find the number of divs that are both visible, and have a background color of Green. (Normally I'd just add a class to the div, style it green, and check for that class in jQuery but in this instance, I can't actually change the markup of the page itself in any way) I currently have the visible div part working as : if( // if there are more than one visible div $('div.progressContainer:visible').length > 0 ){ I'd like to throw some kind of "and background color is green" selector in there. // not legit javascript if( // if there are more than one visible div, and its color is green $('div.progressContainer:visible[background-color:green]').length > 0 ){ Is it possible to do this?

That is, for the boxplot, the x is (<20, 20-50,50-70, 70), while y is MB (and RMSE) of the difference of col4 and col3 I hope I didn't confuse anybody. Thank you so much.

    Here is the scenario: I have a table that records the user_id, the module_id, and the date/time the module was viewed. eg. Table: Log ------------------------------ User_ID Module_ID Date ------------------------------ 1 red 2001-01-01 1 green 2001-01-02 1 blue 2001-01-03 2 green 2001-01-04 2 blue 2001-01-05 1 red 2001-01-06 1 blue 2001-01-07 3 blue 2001-01-08 3 green 2001-01-09 3 red 2001-01-10 3 green 2001-01-11 4 white 2001-01-12 I need to get a result set that has the user_id as the 1st column, and then a column for each module. The row data is then the user_id and the count of the number of times that user viewed each module. eg. --------------------------------- User_ID red green blue white --------------------------------- 1 2 1 2 0 2 0 1 1 0 3 1 2 1 0 4 0 0 0 1 I was initially thinking that I could do this with PIVOT, but no dice; the database is a converted SQL Server 2000 DB that is running in SQL Server 2005. I'm not able to change the compatibility level, so pivot is out. How can I accomplish this?

  • Upgraded to Maverick; can't change theme

    Hi, I just upgraded to Maverick, and now I can't change my theme except for the cursor and window border/decoration. I've just reinstalled the themes I want to use (Dust + Dust extra) successfully, and while the window border/decorations change properly when I select them, nothing else changes. The icon set doesn't change; gnome-panel doesn't change. I'm stuck on the fugly fallback theme - the one you see when you do gksudo gedit or something. Halp! -Mike

  • Events in Classes (VB.NET)

    I find that I write a lot of code within my classes to keep properties in sync with each other. I've read about Events in Classes, but have not been able to wrap my head around how to make them work for what I'm looking for. I could use some advice here. For example, in this one I always want to keep myColor up to date with any change whatsoever in any or all of the Red, Green or Blue properties. Class myColors Private Property Red As Byte Private Property Green As Byte Private Property Blue As Byte Private Property myColor As Color Sub New() myColor = Color.FromArgb(0, 0, 0) End Sub Sub ChangeRed(ByVal r As Byte) Red = r myColor = Color.FromArgb(Red, Green, Blue) End Sub Sub ChangeBlue(ByVal b As Byte) Blue = b myColor = Color.FromArgb(Red, Green, Blue) End Sub End Class If one or more of those changes, I want myColor to be updated. Easy enough as above, but is there a way to work with events that would automatically do this so I don't have to put myColor = Color.FromArgb(Red, Green, Blue) in every sub routine?
