• HD Video on Pandaboard ES

  I am running Ubuntu 11.10 on my Pandaboard ES. I attempted to playback a 720p / 1080p video. In both cases, the videos were highly jittery and the audio seemed to be plagued with something that seemed to be white noise (sounds like white noise, but it definitely is not white noise). I was using VLC media player for playback and was running XFCE4 as the desktop ewnvironment. The system monitor graph indicates both the CPU cores running ~100%. Lower resolution videos seemed to play without problems. How do I play 1080 / 720 HD videos on pandaboard? Thanks in advance.

• HD Video Peformance Unacceptable

  Was wondering if anyone could help me boost HD 1080p video performance on my machine? I've got an AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core processor, 2 gb RAM & an ATI Radeon 5450 video card. I've installed the latest ATI Catalyst drivers, I installed the hardware acceleration things and linked them (I believe) to VLC. Still, it's still not running as well as I would like. Any thoughts or suggestions? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

• Audio playback: part of song is skipped

  I am experiencing some problems with music playback after upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10. Basically some of the songs stop playing after some time as if the song has ended. It's always the same songs and the same time. The weird thing that it happens with Clementine and Totem but VLC doesn't have this problem and it also plays as it should on Windows. I'm guessing there might be a problem with some library that's shared with by the first two applications. I don't know if it's relevant but the file format of the audio files is flac(don't know if the problem affects mp3, because I don't have many of them).

• I cannot play some WMA files

  I did a backup of several music files from my older Windows XP system. Now I can play all the .MP3 files but not all the .WMA. There are some kinds of WMA files that can be reproduced without problems, may refute this in the picture below. The right file can be played, the left isn't. • Chrome will not load a web page with an <embed> element

It plays in IE, but not in Firefox or Chrome. My problem: Chrome reports "Could not load VLC Plugin". It seems to be a known problem that the VLC community don't necessarily feel like fixing at the moment, and is a result of Google choosing not to allow some certain kind of plugin. If I disable the plugin I no longer get the message but nothing happens when I click the button. Looking at the console in a debug window I see Uncaught TypeError: undefined is not a function Sound.html:7 PlaySound Sound.html:7 onclick which suggests Chrome could not find anything else to handle the sound file. How to I tell Chrome to use (e.g.) Windows Media Player? * UPDATE * This is apparently because the VLC plugin is a NPAPI plugin and Chrome no longer supports these. I have uninstalled VLC and this has removed the error on loading the webpage with an embedded sound element, but it still doesn't invoke WMP instead.

• How do I get media players to play ripped dvd files using Handbrake?

  I want to rip my dvd collection to put on a server for my tv. I started this with trying 4 dvds using Handbrake. The first 3 ripped perfectly fine according to the directions I used from LifeHacker (http://lifehacker.com/5773000/how-to-rip-dvds-with-handbrake). The 4th dvd took about 2 secs to rip and then stopped saying it was complete. It was not. Now with the 3 files I have I tried to open and play with VLC and Miro. Neither one would play the file. It says its open but there is no sound or video and it doesn't actually show the movie playing in the progress bar. I ran it from the terminal and this is the error message I get. • AMD E-450 APU with HD-6320 graphics produces jerky videos

  I try to make videos smooth playing on a Lenovo E325 laptop equipped with AMD E-450 APU. This processor have Ati HD-6320 GPU integrated. I installed ATI proprietary driver (Catalyst 12.04) as described here. Everything went fine and got no errors. However I can not play smooth HD videos. • Video freezes when larger than a certain size

  I have a weird problem playing video files. I have a fairly new (a few years old) graphic card that should and has played up to 1080p video files without much a lot of trouble. I seem to be having a weird issue where the video plays back fine if the window is below a certain size, but as soon as the windowsize increases, the picture freezes. The audio still plays. Usually this is mitigated by killing som applications. Especially GTK (?) apps seem to cause this lag, like having a Nautilus window open usually triggers this error for me. With hardware rendering I get the error regardless of application. I have tried enabling software rendering in VLC and that eliminates the problem (but I get other problems using software rendering, so I've avoided it). I know this is pretty fuzzy, but I'm not sure how to approach this problem. Do you have any idea? EDIT: Some more information. I have the correct and latest drivers installed. My graphics card is a Nvidia 7600 GT.

• Macbook Pro suddenly lagging video playback + Flash sites

  I have a Macbook Pro, OSx Lion, Intel Core2 Duo, 4GB Ram, NVidia Geforce 8600M GT 128 MB Ram, Intel x25m SSD. Approximately 4 years old. I've been running Flash sites and playing videos without any problems for years. Then suddenly 3 months ago, a flash site like http://thefwa.com is lagging in all browsers. Even mouseover animations - anything. Also video playback in e.g VLC and Quicktime is now lagging. Same videos I used before, I tried installing an older version of VLC without any luck. Playing back video in VLC utilizes the CPU almost 100%, and Flash sites like thefwa.com easily takes up 50-60%. It's as if the hardware acceleration stopped working, or the GPU lost its magic. UPDATE: Same issues also occurred on Snow Leopard Has anyone experienced something similar, or do you know what might be wrong?

• Go frame-by-frame through a movie with a precise timer

  Hello, world: I have a video I made for physics class, which I intend to use to measure just how long an event took to take place. I can find the start frame and end frame easily using VLC's frame-by-frame feature. However, VLC's timer seems only to be precise to a single second, giving me no more precise an answer than "5 seconds." Is there a way in VLC, or any other program, to identify at precisely what time a particular frame in a video takes place? I have easy access to Ubuntu and Windows, and acquire a Mac if need be. If precise timer is not available, what number frame I am on will also work, since I know the framerate.

When I opened the video in VLC media player,a black screen appeared and started flickering.The video just does not start. What all I things I did-: updated my VLC Reinstalled my VLC downloaded another media player(wondershare--very very beautiful i must say).It played the video but audio was missing. converted mp4 to flv and then played in both players,still no sound. • How to stream H264 Video from camera over FTP?

  I bought a h264 security camera system last year and set it up to ftp video to my computer. I was able to get the video to play (even though it played a little fast) on Ubuntu 11.04 using mplayer. A few months ago, I did a fresh install of 12.04 and I cannot seem to get the video to play with mplayer, smplayer or VLC. I have the restricted formats video packages installed and when playing with any of the players, all I get is a gray video. When calling mplayer from the command line to play the video with no options, I get a lot of these errors: [h264 @ 0x7f278c61f280]concealing 1320 DC, 1320 AC, 1320 MV errors No pts value from demuxer to use for frame! pts after filters MISSING I'm not a video expert and have been coming up with a lot of dead ends when Googling for this. Could someone offer some advice about how to play these videos? • Playing a video logs me out

  When I try to play a video in vlc, totem or banshee, it immediately logs me out. Sometimes this happens when I try to full screen the video. This seems to happen only after upgrading to ubuntu 11, and happens for multiple kinds of files, like avi and m4v. The motherboard is Asus a8v-mx. Please help me fix my ubuntu installation. Thanks. • MPEG-2 playback inconsistent

  Many years ago I gave up on Linux because video playback was choppy. Now I'm back, and video playback is still playing up... I have two MPEG files: good.mpg bad.mpg. Here is some information about the two files, using avprobe: My machine is Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00GHz x 2, 64-bit. I do not know what graphics card I have. I run Ubuntu 12.04. So far I have had no problems with YouTube and playback of various video files, including playback of the file good.mpg, included in the avprobe snapshot above. However, the file bad.mpg gives me headache! The file bad.mpg is produced by a respectable "Old-video-tapes-to-DVD" company. I converted over 10 Video-8 tapes to MPEG through them, and today I collected my hard drive containing the MPEG files. Unfortunately I have problem watching them! Here are some details: Using Totem Movie Player 3.0.1 works well for several seconds, then it gets choppy and the playback is not at all smooth. Also the player easily freezes for a while when trying to jump to another position in the file. Most strangely though, the total time is shown as 0:42 (42 seconds) instead of the true 00:39:11: The VLC media player is doing a better job. It shows the correct total length, but as soon as I jump in the video to a new position, it stalls. Playback also stalls after 30 seconds if I press play and leave it. Using Handbrake and choosing bad.mpg as the source, gives me: There is only one title to choose, and it is 6 min 53 seconds. I would have guessed the full 39 minutes of the video should have shown. Lastly, putting the file bad.mpg in Dropbox and viewing it on my iPad with the Dropbox app seems fine (disregard the lack of easy jumping forward due to real-time encoding when streaming it). My question is simple: What is going on?! Why do I have problem to play the MPEG-2 files I just paid good money for (the issue with bad.mpg applies to all files I had encoded)? Is it an issue with my particular Linux machine? The graphics card? But why has everything worked fine so far, and why does not the good.mpg file cause any problems?

  Hi. i know that in Linux i can stream using vlc and ffmpeg. i was able to successfully stream using vlc but only in static bitrates. i must set 400k/s or 800k/s. i want it to use as much upload bandwidth as it can consume. so if my internet line is not busy and i'm not downloading anything the quality will be better. is it possible to do such a thing?

• Building MobileVLCKit from git.videolan.org repository on macOsX with XCode

  I would like to make an application for iOS(iPhone and iPad) that can play streaming videos through RTSP protocol (that includes mms). I imagined to achive a specified application using VLC player or libVLC library. On the official vlc git repository (http://git.videolan.org/?p=vlc.git;a=tree) in projects/macosx/framework/ folder there is xcode project MobileVLCKit.xcodeproj for which I assume that is a somewhat usable VLC framework for iOS. Now the problem is that I can't/don't know how to build this project. When I try to build MobileVLCKit.xcodeproj I get an error that says it can't find files inside extras/contrib/hosts/i686-apple-darwin10/ios/ folder. I have looked within that folder (extras/contrib) and managed to create folder (with files) extras/contrib/hosts/i686-apple-darwin10/ with make, but there is no ios folder. So, does anybody knows how to successfully build MobileVLCKit?

  Hi! all, I am writing an application which is a kinda video streamer.The client is receiving a video stream using udp socket.Now as I am receiving the stream I want to play it simultaneous.It is different from playing local video file lying in your hard disk in which case it can be as simple as running the file using system("vlc filename").But here many issues are involved like there can be delay in receiving and player will have to wait for the incoming data.I have come to know about using vlc to run a video stream.Can you please elaborate the step for playing the stream using vlc.I am implementing my application in c++. • DTS to AC3 conversion for LG TV using mediatomb DLNA server

  I want to convert a MKV video file containing DTS audio to a stream with AC3 audio. I want to pass this resulting stream to mediatomb's transcoding feature. Mediatomb will transfer the stream via DLNA to a LG TV, which does not support DTS audio. I have tried the VLC command below but the TV does not recognize the stream, and playing the destination stream on PC does not produce sound. vlc -vvv -I dummy INPUT.file --sout \ '#transcode{acodec=ac3,ab=256k,channels=2,threads=4} \ :std{mux=ts,access=file,dst=DEST.file}' The following ffmpeg command give a stream that plays on the TV with sound, but the ffmpeg process gets killed (with signal 15) within 10-15 seconds, and then the TV restarts the playback from the beginning. This goes on in loops. ffmpeg -i INPUT.file -acodec ac3 -ab 384k -vcodec copy \ -vbsf h264_mp4toannexb -f mpegts -y DEST.file I want to have a working DLNA server which transcodes DTS to AC3, any help is appreciated.

  I would like to know if I can use Android to remote control streaming on my laptop? I would like to use my laptop as my streaming server and use my HDTV to view the stream. And I need some way to remote control my streaming server. I have read about http://maketecheasier.com/install-vlc-shares-in-Ubuntu-and-stream-videos-to-Android/2011/02/25 and http://code.google.com/p/android-vlc-remote/ but those are streaming to Android phone itself. I am just need something to remote control streaming to my TV. Is that possible?

• bluray playback stuttering/choppy on mac

  I have had a few issues with bluray playback on mac with the following details: 2.4 GHz Core 2 duo NVidia 8600 m GT 256 mb ram 4 GB ram OSX Lion 10.7.5 Using VLC 2.03 for playback Files either mounted as a disc or stored on hardisk. I have tried various sources and playback is always choppy and stutters. Where the video and audio pause for a few seconds before resuming ok. If I transcode the same bluray files into mkv files play back is seemless. I am not applying any compression and the resolution is the same as is the nominal file size. For a recent example 11.2 GB m2ts and 10.5 GB mkv file. This stuttering and choppy playback of bluray files through VLC has occured for a number of different sources. For each of these sources transcoding to mkv solves the stuttering/choppiness. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

• Can mediatomb VLC profile transcode audio as MP3 rather than mpga ?

  In the /etc/mediatomb/config.xml, can mediatomb VLC profile transcode audo as MP3 rather than mpga ? My Sony GoogleTV wont render streamed .avi files files with a mpga audio in them. The original files are Divx encoded with 128kbs MP3 audio but mediatomb is transcoding them. How can I change this? Any ideas? Can I turn off the audio and video transcoding somehow? I would guess I can work around that by somehow telling ffmpeg to not transcode the audio stream? Also, should I create a separate vlcprof entry for video/avi ? Can you create more than one profile for VLC in the config.xml for mediatomb?
