• ffmpeg, vlc - Unable to find input stream

  Good day to all... I have some "little" problems with ffserver and ffmpeg... What I need to do is to broadcast a live video. So I got the cam... used vlc and used send stream option. I sent it to 192.168.1.9:64555, which is a virtual machine on the same computer, running centos. On the virtual machine I run the command ffmpeg -i 192.168.1.9:64555 output.mpg. The response is "unable to find file whatever". Can any1 tell me what I did wrong? Thank you and have a great day. Print-screen with error:

• Make VLC play all of a sound clip?

  In VLC 1.0.5, sound files (mp3 and wav) are not playing completely. I think the leading .1 sec and trailing .5 second, more or less, are not playing. I remember this behavior from some years ago, but am not sure the app or how i fixed it. Seems like there was some setting that was causing it to clip the sounds, but can't find or remember it. The Zune Software and Windows Media Player work fine. Windows 7 Pro, if it matters. Any suggestions?

• VLC 2.0: can't enable UPnP support

  I'm attempting to use VLC 2.0.1 (Intel 64 bit) to connect to a UPnP server (Serviio 0.6.2 on OS X Snow Leopard). I've tried to enable the feature by right clicking the "Universal Plug 'n Play" node in the LOCAL NETWORK section of the Main Window. While I am able to select 'Enable', the setting doesn't seem to 'stick'. Moreover, UPnP isn't listed in the Playlist Service discovery section of the preferences. The 'Service discovery modules' is currently set to upnp_intel:sap. I am able to connect to the UPnP server with my Samsung TV, so I know that the service works.

• Batch Convert .mkv to .mp4 with VLC

  i want to batch convert all .mkv file in a folder into .mp4 with vlc. it should use the original video-/audio-stream and if possible the .ass subtitle of the .mkv. so its not really a convert, its more changing the container. (my player cant read the mkv) if i do this conversion by hand (manually) it works, but i have a lot of mkv to convert, so it would take a lot of time. i have searched the internet for a batch file to do this and i found a few and tried to modify them to my wish, but all attempts i tried just created a .mp4 file that doesn't contain the audio-stream and the video-stream also cannot be rendered by all my mediaplayers on the pc. so i would be very thankful, if you could tell me how the batch have to look like, so it works with original video-/audio-stream (maybe .ass subtitle)

  When I open the Preferences of VLC and go to Input & Codecs, I have a setting called Default Caching Level. I can choose between Cusom Lowest latency Low latency Normal High latency Higher latency I'm used to caching being set in seconds or something like that. So, more seconds/higher buffer means less chane of buffer underrun while streaming. What is latency? What does it mean to set it lower or higher? In what cases should I go in what direction? If I'm struggling with buffer underruns, should I set it to lower or higher latency?

• Set a Video as Your Desktop Wallpaper with VLC

  Are you tired of static desktop wallpapers and want something a bit more entertaining? Today we’ll take a look at setting a video as wallpaper in VLC media player. Download and install VLC player. You’ll find the download link below. Open VLC and select Tools > Preferences. On the Preferences windows, select the Video button on the left. Under Video Settings, select DirectX video output from the Output dropdown list. Click Save before exiting and then restart VLC. Next, select a video and begin playing it with VLC. Right-click on the screen, select Video, then DirectX Wallpaper.   You can achieve the same result by selecting Video from the Menu and clicking DirectX Wallpaper.   If you’re using Windows Aero Themes, you may get the warning message below and your theme will switch automatically to a basic theme.   After the Wallpaper is enabled, minimize VLC player and enjoy the show as you work.     When you are ready to switch back to your normal wallpaper, click Video, and then close out of VLC.   Occasionally we had to manually change our wallpaper back to normal. You can do that by right clicking on the desktop and selecting your theme.   Conclusion This might not make the most productive desktop environment, but it is pretty cool. It’s definitely not the same old boring wallpaper! When I try to playback using VLC I'm getting no audio, and an error saying that there is nothing I can do because VLC does not support the "samr" codec.   Hi, I am capturing packets off the network from a video conference HDX. The video is sent in RTP and is encoded in H264. I am trying to capture these packets and generate a video file. I wrote raw H264 data from the packets to disk and i am trying to play it in VLC. VLC just shows a green box. Am i being too naive in my approach with data writing or should am I wrong in assuming that VLC should play this file? Anyone have any experience in such things?

  I currently have an EEE PC set up with LinuxMint as my media server using MediaTomb. I use VLC as my media player on another Windows computer to watch videos off the media server. It works fine, but the current process is: Open up browser and navigate to folder Find the file I want to play and copy URL Paste URL into VLC and watch. This is fine for me on the PC, but it is a little troublesome for my parents to grasp (or for me to use on the phone). Ideally I'd like to: Open up VLC Browse to the file (using VLC) Click/select to play If there is any solution which is similar to this, please let me know. I'm willing to change the software on both server and client to accommodate (although it somewhat depends on which formats are supported on the server) Side note: I've tried searching online for this but I find a lot of jargon such as "media server/centre", media streaming, DLNA, UPNP and feel that some people are either using them interchangeably or incorrectly.

• Does VLC Player work well on Windows 7 64-bit?

  I tried VLC Player on Windows 7 64-bit version and the playback was fine, but when the video is maximized the image is very pixelated. I tried this on a Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card as well as a computer with an Intel graphics chipset and both have the same result. If I use VLC Player on Windows 7 32-bit instead of 64-bit, there is no pixelation. Is this a known problem or is there any method to fix it on Windows 7 64-bit? Update: there isn't a 32-bit vs 64-bit version of VLC player, is there? (unlike 7-Zip) I also tried GOM Player and it doesn't have the problem on Windows 7 64-bit. Update: Nov 4, 2009 VLC displays an update notice: VLC 1.0.3 is a minor release fixing many bugs, especially for Windows Vista and 7, but it also introduces 2 new modes for deinterlacing, and a new udev module. Major fixes are about WMA Pro support, Dolby tracks in 4.0, v4l/v4l2 and atsc and a crash in mjpeg demuxer. Update of translations are also part of this release.
