  • What's the best way to develop a debugging window for an ajax ASP.Net MVC application

    While developing my ASP.NET MVC, I have started to see the need for a debugging console window to assist in figuring out what is going right and wrong in my code. I read the last few chapters of the Pro Asp.net MVC book, and the author details how to use http modules to show page load/creation times and linq to sql query logs, both of which I definitely want to be able to see. However, since I am loading a lot of small sections of my page individually with ajax I don't want the debug information right there in the middle of my screen. So the idea I came up with was to have a separate browser window (open-able by a link or some javascript) with a console log, that can contain logged entries both from javascript and from the asp.net mvc run. The former should be relatively easy, but I'm having trouble coming up with a way to log the asp.net information in ajax requests. The direction I have been thinking of going is to create an httpmodule (like the Pro MVC book does), and have that module contain some that append the javascript's log to console calls with the messages. The issue I see with this is finding a way to get the log messages from the controller's action methods to the httpmodule's methods. The only way I see to do this is with a singleton, but I'm not sure if singletons are bad practice for a stateless web application. Furthermore, it seems like if I return json with my ajax calls (instead of pure html) then that won't work at all anyways and unless there is a way to add data to an existing json structure inside the httpmodule. How does everyone else handle this type of debugging in heavily ajax applications? For reference, the javascript library I am using is jquery.

    If I have an IEnumerable like: string[] items = new string[] { "a", "b", "c", "d" }; I would like to loop thru all the pairs of consecutive items (sliding window of size 2). Which would be ("a","b"), ("b", "c"), ("c", "d") My solution was is this public static IEnumerable<Pair<T, T>> Pairs(IEnumerable<T> enumerable) { IEnumerator<T> e = enumerable.GetEnumerator(); e.MoveNext(); T current = e.Current; while ( e.MoveNext() ) { T next = e.Current; yield return new Pair<T, T>(current, next); current = next; } } // used like this : foreach (Pair<String,String> pair in IterTools<String>.Pairs(items)) { System.Out.PrintLine("{0}, {1}", pair.First, pair.Second) } When I wrote this code, I wondered if there are already functions in the .NET framework that do the same thing and do it not just for pairs but for any size tuples. IMHO there should be a nice way to do this kind of sliding window operations. I use C# 2.0 and I can imagine that with C# 3.0 (w/ LINQ) there are more (and nicer) ways to do this, but I'm primarily interested in C# 2.0 solutions. Though, I will also appreciate C# 3.0 solutions.

I store the weight in kg's, i.e. 1 kg is stores as 1, 0.1 kg or 100g is stored as 0.1 To make it easier for the user, I display the weight in the Admin list display in grams by specifying: def show_weight(self): if self.weight: weight_in_g = self.weight * 1000 return '%0f' % weight_in_g So if a product weighs e.g. 0.5 kg and is stored in the database as such, the admin list display shows 500 Is there also a way to alter the number shown in the 'Change product' window. This window now shows the value extracted from the database, i.e. 0.5. This will confuse a user when I tell him with the help_text to enter the number in g, while seeing the number of kgs. Before saving the product I override save as follows: def save(self): if self.weight: self.weight = self.weight / 1000 This converts the number entered in grams to kgs.

  • Display gridview in new window

    Hello all. Just a bit of advice needed really in terms of how I should handle my current scenario: I have a web page that searches for products/category information the results of which are at present displayed in a gridview on the same page. However, said gridview is a bit of a beast and as such, I would like to have a page that the user searches for, a button is pressed and the subsequent gridview is displayed in a new window. Ultimately, I would like the user to be able to make multiple searches so that new windows can have multiple gridviews containing different data sets. My current thinking is to create session variables that can be pulled through onto 'the gridview page'. Having said that, I'm not sure that would work if multiple searches are created? I am also thinking I might be able to create said 'gridview window' using javascript but my concern here is the potential loss of functionality of the gridview i.e. paging, sorting, editing, etc. Does anyone have any thoughts or theories on this? What would be "best practise"? Any thoughts greatly appreciated and taken on board. PS: This is being developed in .net, using c# and LINQ. PPS: I'm a noob so be gentle!!

    I'm debugging an iPhone application I've written using XCode 3.2 and I cannot view the relevant public properties of an object I pull from Core Data. When I watch the object in the Expressions window it only displays the data from the base NSManagedObject. I'd like to see the properties that are on the subclass, not the superclass. If it helps, here's some of the code I'm using. Settings is a subclass of NSManagedObject. I created it using XCode's built-in modeler. Declared like: @interface Settings : NSManagedObject { } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSNumber * hasNews; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString * logoUrl; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSNumber * hasPaymentGateway; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString * customerCode; ... In the interface of my controller I have: Settings *settings; I populate settings with: settings = (Settings *)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Settings" inManagedObjectContext:UIAppManagedObjectContext()]; I then set the properties like: settings.hasNews = [NSNumber numberWithBool:TRUE]; I've tried casting settings as (Settings *) in the Expression window but that doesn't help. All I see are the properties to NSManagedObject. I'm using NSLog but would rather not.

I built a triggerField and when i press at it, i want to have a popup, that is appended to the button in the triggerfield(so when i click anywhere else it shall disappear and it shall pop out up to the button when i click at the button just like a datepicker-popup) I somehow managed to do something like that with an Ext.window but the offset and postion doesnt match.     I'm currently having an issue where I have a javascript object that is trying to use setInterval to call a private function inside of itself. However, it can't find the object when I try to call it. I have a feeling that it's because window.setInterval is trying to call into the object from outside but doesn't have a reference to the object. FWIW - I can't get it to work with the function being public either. The basic requirement is that I may need to have multiple instances of this object to track multiple uploads that are occurring at once. If you have a better design than the current one or can get the current one working then I'm all ears.     Hi I would like to make a list-detail view with richfaces. There will be a link for every record in the list that should open a new window containing record details. I tried to implement the link this way: <a4j:commandLink oncomplete="window.open('/pages/serviceDetail.jsf','popupWindow', 'dependent=yes, menubar=no, toolbar=no, height=500, width=400')" actionListener="#{monitoringBean.recordDetail}" value="details" /> I use <a4j:keepAlive beanName="monitoringBean" ajaxOnly="false" /> for both the list and the detail page. recordDetail method fills the data of the selected record to a variable of the bean that I would like to display on the detail page. The problem is that keepalive doesn't work, so I get new bean instance on the detail page every time. So the the previously selected record from the other bean is not accessible here. Is there a way to pass parameter (id) to the detail page to handle record selection. Or is there any way to make keepalive work? (I this this would be the easiest). Thanks

  • How to send data from an opened window back to its opener in WPF.

    In WPF I have one window opening a second window that allows some data selections to occur on. Once the selections have been made I then want to submit/close the second/sub window and have the data pushed back to the opening/parent window. I can push data into the sub window from the parent via public properties, but have not worked out how to get it back the other way. Can anyone help please? The code I am using to open the window and set some properties is has follows: Dim wdwContacts As New appContacts() wdwContacts.selClientID = selClientID wdwContacts.selEmailToCCType = selEmailToCCType wdwContacts.pullToAddresses = txEmailTo.Text wdwContacts.pullCCAddresses = txEmailCC.Text wdwContacts.Owner = Me wdwContacts.WindowStartupLocation = Windows.WindowStartupLocation.CenterOwner wdwContacts.Show() The basis is that I have the first window as an email composition page that has a button that when clicked brings up a list of email contacts. It brings through any previously selected email addresses from the first window and auto selects them on the sub window/email list. If further selections are made on the email list, when the op clicks the done/submit/close button it pushes the new selection list back into the relevant TextBox on the first/parent window. Thanks

I can do it via for loop , I want a efficient way to do this. any help on this.
