  • Image Resizing and Compression

    Hi guys, I'm implementing an image upload facility for my website. The uploading facility is complete but what I'm working on at the moment is manipulating the images. For this task I am using PHPThumb (http://phpthumb.gxdlabs.com). Anyway as I go along I'm coming across potential issues, to do with resizing and compression. Basically I want to acheive the following results: The ideal image dimensions are: 800px width, 600px height. If an uploaded image exceeds either of these dimensions, it will need be resized to meet the requirements. Otherwise, leave as it is. The ideal file size is 200kb. If an uploaded image exceeds this then it will need to be compressed to meet this requirement. Otherwise, leave as it is. So in a nutshell: 1) Check the dimensions, resize if required. 2) Check the filesize, compress if required. Has anybody done anything like this / could you give me some pointers? Is PHPThumb the correct tool to do this in?

  • uploading images with the help of arrays and fetch errors

    i use a script to upload a couple of images to a directory. the code works great in case of just one picture will be uploaded. if i like to upload two images or more and have an extension that is not accepted, the script will upload the one with the extension that is allowed to upload and shows the errormessage for the one who is not accepted. but the upload takes place. that's my first problem. second problem will be: in case of an errormessage i would like to display a message in which it is said, which of the images will be not allowed. i do not know how to fetch this one that has an unaccepted ending into a variable that i can echo to the errormessage. here is the code i use: if(!empty($_FILES['image']['tmp_name'])){ $allowed_extension = array('jpg', 'jpeg', 'png', 'bmp', 'tiff', 'gif'); foreach($_FILES['image']['name'] as $key => $array_value){ $file_name = $_FILES['image']['name'][$key]; $file_size = $_FILES['image']['size'][$key]; $file_tmp = $_FILES['image']['tmp_name'][$key]; $file_extension = strtolower(end(explode('.', $file_name))); if (in_array($file_extension, $allowed_extension) === false){ $errors[] = 'its an unaccepted format in picture $variable_that_count'; continue; } if ($file_size > 2097152){ $errors[] = 'reached maxsize of 2MB per file in picture $variable_that_count'; } if (count($errors) == 0){ $path = "a/b/c/"; $uploadfile = $path."/".basename($_FILES['image']['name'][$key]); if (move_uploaded_file($_FILES['image']['tmp_name'][$key], $uploadfile)){ echo "success."; } } } } hope it will be clear what i like to approach. if there is someone who could help out i really would appreciate. thanks a lot.

  • str_replace() and strpos() for arrays?

    I'm working with an array of data that I've changed the names of some array keys, but I want the data to stay the same basically... Basically I want to be able to keep the data that's in the array stored in the DB, but I want to update the array key names associated with it. Previously the array would have looked like this: $var_opts['services'] = array('foo-1', 'foo-2', 'foo-3', 'foo-4'); Now the array keys are no longer prefixed with "foo", but rather with "bar" instead. So how can I update the array variable to get rid of the "foos" and replace with "bars" instead? Like so: $var_opts['services'] = array('bar-1', 'bar-2', 'bar-3', 'bar-4'); I'm already using if(isset($var_opts['services']['foo-1'])) { unset($var_opts['services']['foo-1']); } to get rid of the foos... I just need to figure out how to replace each foo with a bar. I thought I would use str_replace on the whole array, but to my dismay it only works on strings (go figure, heh) and not arrays.

  • facebook app development

    I have always developed my projects using MAMP locally and once done simply uploaded everything to a live server. However, I'm wanting to integrate some FB functionality in my current project and I believe I'm correct in saying that it is not possible to fully test FB integration locally. My problem is I don't want to release the project I'm working on until it's finished (or at least nearly finished!) by placing it on a live server. I don't even want people to see a login screen or anything. Is there a way I can upload everything to my domain for testing purposes but prevent anyone apart from me from accessing the site?

  • MySQL: 4 Table "has-many-through" Join?

    Let's say I have the following 4 tables (for examples' sake): Owners, Trucks, Boxes, Apples. An owner can have many trucks, a truck can have many boxes and a box can have many apples. Owners have an id. Trucks have an id and owner_id. Boxes have an id and truck_id. Apples have an id and box_id. Let's say I want to get all the apples "owned" by an owner with id = 34. So I want to get all the boxes that are in boxes that are in trucks that owner 34 owns. There is a "hierarchy" if you will of 4 tables that each only has reference to its direct "parent". How can I quickly filter boxes while satisfying conditions across the other 3 tables? I hope that made sense somewhat. Thanks.

I mean, link my admin interface to post news link my visitor interface on my website to the wordpress news so the visitor can access the news So the visitor never find out that i'm using wordpress to generate the news and handle their comments and write my news ?     I have a voting script which stores the post_id and the user_id in a table, to determine whether a particular user has already voted on a post and disallow them in the future. To do that, I am doing the following 3 queries. SELECT user_id, post_id from votes_table where postid=? AND user_id=? If that returns no rows, then: UPDATE post_table set votecount = votecount-1 where post_id = ? Then SELECT votecount from post where post_id=? To display the new votecount on the web page Any better way to do this? 3 queries are seriously slowing down the user's voting experience Edit In the votes table, vote_id is a primary key In the post table, post_id is a primary key. Any other suggestions to speed things up?

  • Smarty: including a template file from the same directory

    I have a Smarty template located in a directory under templates_dir: templates/some/dir/template.tpl . In the same directory, I have a sub-template: templates/some/dir/_component.tpl . I can't include the sub-component using an unqualified include, since apparently it looks it up under the templates_dir: {include file='_component.tpl'} How can I tell Smarty to read the file from the same directory, as opposed to the templates root ? I do not want to specify absolute paths, since it will cause problems when changing directory structures.

    in my pre_controller hook i have this code for doctrine: $manager = Doctrine_Manager::getInstance(); $conn = Doctrine_Manager::connection($db[$active_group][‘dsn’]); then in my controller i have this code to use doctrine connection i’ve created: $conn-export-createTable(‘test’, array(‘name’ = array(‘type’ = ‘string’))); $conn-execute(‘INSERT INTO test (name) VALUES (?)’, array(‘jwage’)); but $conn is undefined so it wont work. if i put the code in the pre_controller hook it will work. how can i make variables i declare in hooks available for all controllers so that i dont have to create a new connection all the time?
