  • Implementing a Stack using Test-Driven Development

    - by devoured elysium
    I am doing my first steps with TDD. The problem is (as probably with everyone starting with TDD), I never know very well what kind of unit tests to do when I start working in my projects. Let's assume I want to write a Stack class with the following methods(I choose it as it's an easy example): Stack<T> - Push(element : T) - Pop() : T - Seek() : T - Count : int - IsEmpty : boolean How would you approch this? I never understood if the idea is to test a few corner cases for each method of the Stack class or start by doing a few "use cases" with the class, like adding 10 elements and removing them. What is the idea? To make code that uses the Stack as close as possible to what I'll use in my real code? Or just make simple "add one element" unit tests where I test if IsEmpty and Count were changed by adding that element? How am I supposed to start with this?

  • Tomcat Application Generating too many logs

    - by rohitgu
    Hi, I have an application which runs on tomcat 6.0.20 server on linux ubuntu server. It generates a huge amount of logs in the catalina.out folder, most of these are generated while using the application, but are not generated by the application. Some of the logs it generates are given below, Apr 16, 2010 2:55:24 PM org.apache.tomcat.util.digester.Digester startElement FINE: startElement(,,mime-type) Apr 16, 2010 2:55:24 PM org.apache.tomcat.util.digester.Digester startElement FINE: Pushing body text ' ' Apr 16, 2010 2:55:24 PM org.apache.tomcat.util.digester.Digester startElement FINE: New match='web-app/mime-mapping/mime-type' Apr 16, 2010 2:55:24 PM org.apache.tomcat.util.digester.Digester startElement FINE: Fire begin() for CallParamRule[paramIndex=1, attributeName=null, from stack=false] Apr 16, 2010 2:55:24 PM org.apache.tomcat.util.digester.Digester characters FINE: characters(audio/x-mpeg) Apr 16, 2010 2:55:24 PM org.apache.tomcat.util.digester.Digester endElement FINE: endElement(,,mime-type) Apr 16, 2010 2:55:24 PM org.apache.tomcat.util.digester.Digester endElement FINE: match='web-app/mime-mapping/mime-type' Apr 16, 2010 2:55:24 PM org.apache.tomcat.util.digester.Digester endElement FINE: bodyText='audio/x-mpeg' Apr 16, 2010 2:55:24 PM org.apache.tomcat.util.digester.Digester endElement FINE: Fire body() for CallParamRule[paramIndex=1, attributeName=null, from stack=false] Apr 16, 2010 2:55:24 PM org.apache.tomcat.util.digester.Digester endElement FINE: Popping body text ' How can I turn them off? • Seam - list all components

    - by Walter White
    Hi all, I would like to get a list of all the components so that I can further process them. Is this possible, if so, how can I do that? I don't believe I can observe all postCreate events since it is simply an exact match and not a regular expression. @Observer("org.jboss.seam.postCreate.") You can only observe those events and not * as it is put into a map where the key is a string. Any ideas? Walter

  • How to get video file details eg. duration in Android?

    - by spirytus
    I struggle to get specific video file details so duration etc. from the file the files recorded earlier. All I can currently do is to get cursor with all the files, then loop one by one. Cursor cursor = MediaStore.Video.query(getContext().getContentResolver(), MediaStore.Video.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI, new String[]{MediaStore.Video.VideoColumns.DURATION,MediaStore.Video.VideoColumns.DATE_TAKEN,MediaStore.Video.VideoColumns.RESOLUTION,MediaStore.Video.VideoColumns.DISPLAY_NAME}); if(cursor.moveToFirst()) while(!cursor.isLast()){ if(cursor.getString(3)==fight.filename) { // do something here } cursor.moveToNext(); } I need however to access details of specific files so I tried to create URI but no luck as cursor returned is always null. Where do I go wrong? Uri uri = Uri.parse(Environment.DIRECTORY_DCIM+"/FightAll_BJJ_Scoring/"+(fight.filename)); Cursor cursor = MediaStore.Video.query(getContext().getContentResolver(), uri, new String[]{MediaStore.Video.VideoColumns.DURATION,MediaStore.Video.VideoColumns.DATE_TAKEN,MediaStore.Video.VideoColumns.RESOLUTION,MediaStore.Video.VideoColumns.DISPLAY_NAME}); // cursor is always null here

  • Spring maven libraries

    - by Calm Storm
    I would like to know why some of the libraries are not released during a normal release cycle. For example, from http://repo2.maven.org/maven2/org/springframework/ while spring-core have 3.0.3-RELEASE, spring-remoting and spring-jmx were released only in 2.0.8. Can someone tell me what this would mean? I agree that if there are no changes in the component say spring-jmx then they don't have to release it, but since 90% of the world uses Maven for dependency management can they not just re-release the same libs (of spring-remoting and spring-jmx?) I ask this because I declare my deps like, <dependency> <groupId>org.springframework</groupId> <artifactId>spring-core</artifactId> <version>${spring.version}</version> </dependency> <dependency> <groupId>org.springframework</groupId> <artifactId>spring-remoting</artifactId> <version>${spring.version}</version> </dependency> and I would prefer supplying one spring.version instead of keeping version numbers upto date for all components? The four libraries of interest to me are spring-dao, spring-support, spring-jmx, spring-remoting

  • comparator with null values.

    - by pvgoddijn
    Hi, We have some code wich sorts a list of addresses based on the distance between their coordinates. this is done through collections.sort with a custom comparator. However from time to time an adress without coordinates is in the list causing a NullPointerException. My initial idea to fix this was to have the comparator return 0 as dististance for addresses where at least one of the coordinates is null. I fear this might lead to corruption of the order the 'valid' elements in the list. so is returning a '0' values for null data in a comparator ok, or is there a cleaner way to resolve this.

  • Why String.replaceAll() don't work on this String ?

    - by Aloong
    //This source is a line read from a file String src = "23570006,music,**,wu(),1,exam,\"Monday9,10(H2-301)\",1-10,score,"; //This sohuld be from a matcher.group() when Pattern.compile("\".*?\"") String group = "\"Monday9,10(H2-301)\""; src = src.replaceAll("\"", ""); group = group.replaceAll("\"", ""); String replacement = group.replaceAll(",", "#@"); System.out.println(src.contains(group)); src = src.replaceAll(group, replacement); System.out.println(group); System.out.println(replacement); System.out.println(src); I'm trying to replace the "," between \"s so I can ues String.split() latter. But the above just not working , the result is: true Monday9,10(H2-301) Monday9#@10(H2-301) 23570006,music,**,wu(),1,exam,Monday9,10(H2-301),1-10,score, but when I change the src string to String src = "123\"9,10\"123"; String group = "\"9,10\""; It works well true 9,10 9#@10 1239#@10123 What's the matter with the string???

  • How to remove the file suffix/extension (.jsp and .action) using the Stripes Framework?

    - by Dolph Mathews
    I'm looking to use pretty / clean URL's in my web app. I would like the following URL: http://mydomain.com/myapp/calculator .. to resolve to: com.mydomain.myapp.action.CalculatorActionBean I tried overwriting the NameBasedActionResolver with: public class CustomActionResolver extends NameBasedActionResolver { public static final String DEFAULT_BINDING_SUFFIX = "."; @Override protected String getBindingSuffix() { return DEFAULT_BINDING_SUFFIX; } @Override protected List<String> getActionBeanSuffixes() { List<String> suffixes = new ArrayList<String>(super.getActionBeanSuffixes()); suffixes.add(DEFAULT_BINDING_SUFFIX); return suffixes; } } And adding this to web.xml: <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>StripesDispatcher</servlet-name> <url-pattern>*.</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> Which gets me to: http://mydomain.com/myapp/Calculator. But: A stray "." is still neither pretty nor clean. The class name is still capitalized in the URL..? That still leaves me with *.jsp..? Is it even possible to get rid of both .action and .jsp?

  • Swing - how to mix JTextField and JTextAreas and have same visual appearance?

    - by I82Much
    I am using miglayout to create a form in which there are JTextFields (short input answers) as well as JTextAreas (Longer answers). The problem is twofold. The border placed around a Scrollpane wrapped text area does not match that of a Text Field. The width and placement of the textarea/textfield differ, causing them not to line up correctly. Source code: package test2; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.JLabel; import javax.swing.JPanel; import javax.swing.JScrollPane; import javax.swing.JTextArea; import javax.swing.JTextField; import net.miginfocom.swing.MigLayout; public class Test extends JPanel { private static final int NUM_CHARACTERS_WIDTH = 20; private static final int NUM_ROWS = 5; public Test() { setLayout(new MigLayout( "wrap 2", // Align text labels on the so their right edge meets left edge of the text fields "[right][left]" )); add(new JLabel("Text field:")); add(new JTextField(NUM_CHARACTERS_WIDTH)); add(new JLabel("No scrollpane text area:")); add(new JTextArea(NUM_ROWS, NUM_CHARACTERS_WIDTH)); add(new JLabel("Scrollpane text area:")); add(new JScrollPane(new JTextArea(NUM_ROWS, NUM_CHARACTERS_WIDTH))); add(new JLabel("Text field:")); add(new JTextField(NUM_CHARACTERS_WIDTH)); } public static void main(String[] args) { JFrame frame = new JFrame(""); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); JPanel panel = new Test(); frame.add(panel); frame.pack(); frame.setVisible(true); } } What's the preferred way to mix and match jtextfield and jtextareas, while still maintaining visual harmony? I notice now that the text field has a blue highlight around it when focus is in it, as opposed to the text area... another source of visual discontinuity.

  • Why can final object be modified?

    - by Matt McCormick
    I came across the following code in a code base I am working on: public final class ConfigurationService { private static final ConfigurationService INSTANCE = new ConfigurationService(); private List providers; private ConfigurationService() { providers = new ArrayList(); } public static void addProvider(ConfigurationProvider provider) { INSTANCE.providers.add(provider); } ... INSTANCE is declared as final. Why can objects be added to INSTANCE? Shouldn't that invalidate the use of final. (It doesn't). I'm assuming the answer has to do something with pointers and memory but would like to know for sure.

  • Will a ScheduledExecutorService create new threads as needed?

    - by Matt Ball
    I'm using Executors.newScheduledThreadPool() to create a ScheduledExecutorService, specifying the number of threads like so: int corePoolSize = 42; ScheduledExecutorService foo = Executors.newScheduledThreadPool(corePoolSize); According to the JavaDocs, the corePoolSize argument sets the number of threads to keep in the pool, even if they are idle. Does this mean that this ExecutorService implementation may create more than corePoolSize threads as needed, similar to a cached thread pool?

  • Enum in Hibernate, persisting as an enum

    - by niklassaers
    In my MySQL database, there's the column "gender enum('male','female')" I've created my enum "com.mydomain.myapp.enums.Gender", and in my Person entity I'm defined "Gender gender". Now I'd want to keep the enum type in my MySQL database, but when I launch my application I get: Wrong column type in MyApp.Person for column Gender. Found: enum, expected: integer Why is this? This would be the equivalent as if I'd annotated my "Gender gender" with "@Enumerated(EnumType.ORDINAL)", which I haven't. EnumType seems only to be able to be either ORDINAL or STRING, so how do I specify that it should treat the field as an enum, not as an int? (not that there's much difference, but enough for it to get upset about it.)

  • Essence of BiMap in Google collections

    - by littleEinstein
    I am still quite puzzled at the BiMap in Google collections/Guava. It was claimed that The two bimaps are backed by the same data; any changes to one will appear in the other. I browsed through the source code, and I found the use of delegate in ForwardingMap. But in any actually subclass of StandardBiMap, I do see the data are put into both the forward and reverse map. So what is the essence, and why it claims to have saved space by keeping only one copy of the data? Is it just the actual objects are one set, but two distinct sets of references to these objects are still needed, one set maintained in forward map, and the other in reverse map? private V putInBothMaps(K key, V value, boolean force) { boolean containedKey = containsKey(key); if (containedKey && Objects.equal(value, get(key))) { return value; } if (force) { inverse().remove(value); } else if (containsValue(value)) { throw new IllegalArgumentException( "value already present: " + value); } V oldValue = super.put(key, value); updateInverseMap(key, containedKey, oldValue, value); return oldValue; }

  • How to modularize a JSF/Facelets/Spring application with OSGi?

    - by lexicore
    I'm working with very large JSF/Facelets applications which use Spring for DI/bean management. My applications have modular structure and I'm currently looking for approaches to standardize the modularization. My goal is to compose a web application from a number of modules (possibly depending on each other). Each module may contain the following: Classes; Static resources (images, CSS, scripts); Facelet templates; Managed beans - Spring application contexts, with request, session and application-scoped beans (alternative is JSF managed beans); Servlet API stuff - servlets, filters, listeners (this is optional). What I'd like to avoid (almost at all costs) is the need to copy or extract module resources (like Facelets templates) to the WAR or to extend the web.xml for module's servlets, filters, etc. It must be enough to add the module (JAR, bundle, artifact, ...) to the web application (WEB-INF/lib, bundles, plugins, ...) to extend the web application with this module. Currently I solve this task with a custom modularization solution which is heavily based on using classpath resources: Special resources servlet serves static resources from classpath resources (JARs). Special Facelets resource resolver allows loading Facelet templates from classpath resources. Spring loads application contexts via the pattern classpath*:com/acme/foo/module/applicationContext.xml - this loads application contexts defined in module JARs. Finally, a pair of delegating servlets and filters delegate request processing to the servlets and filters configured in Spring application contexts from modules. Last days I read a lot about OSGi and I was considering, how (and if) I could use OSGi as a standardized modularization approach. I was thinking about how individual tasks could be solved with OSGi: Static resources - OSGi bundles which want to export static resources register a ResourceLoader instances with the bundle context. A central ResourceServlet uses these resource loaders to load resources from bundles. Facelet templates - similar to above, a central ResourceResolver uses services registered by bundles. Managed beans - I have no idea how to use an expression like #{myBean.property} if myBean is defined in one of the bundles. Servlet API stuff - use something like WebExtender/Pax Web to register servlets, filters and so on. My questions are: Am I inventing a bicycle here? Are there standard solutions for that? I've found a mentioning of Spring Slices but could not find much documentation about it. Do you think OSGi is the right technology for the described task? Is my sketch of OSGI application more or less correct? How should managed beans (especially request/session scope) be handled? I'd be generally graefult for your comments.
