  • SQL 2008 network logon

    Hi I have a domain controller that I have installed active directory onto and have set up an account that I want to use for my SQL server installation on another computer that is linked onto the domain. I can search for the account in active directory and I am able to select it into the add new user section in MSSMS, however, when I click add I get 'Windows NT user or group 'DOMAIN\user' not found. Check the name again. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15401) I have googled the Error code and I havent found a solution that has fixed the error. If you have any help I would be greatful Thanks :)

  • SQL cluster instance names for large project

    We're setting up two clusters. One dev and one prod. The Production will host two SQL instances - a OLTP and a DW. The development will host 4 OLTP non-production environments and at least one DW non-production. We're working on getting more DW non-prods and possibly more OLTP systems. I'm considering a naming scheme like this, where PROJ would be 3 initials for the project name. Dev Cluster MSSQLPROJD1\D1 (DEV) MSSQLPROJD2\D2 (TEST) MSSQLPROJD3\D3 (QA) MSSQLPROJD4\D4 (STAGE) MSSQLPROJD5\D5 (DW) Prd Cluster MSSQLPROJP1\P1 (PRD) MSSQLPROJP2\P2 (DW) To the left of the slash, each name must be unique network wide. On each server, the instance name, to the right of the slash, must be unique. Any thoughts on this? I'm trying to avoid having instance names drifting from reality as the project progresses - say we change what we call a certain environment or want to repurpose one. Then we can update a listing of the purposes for the instances and be done with it. How has a scheme like this worked out for you? Maybe you do things another way in your shop - tell me about it.   • Queries passed to SQL Server are getting corrupted

    We are experiencing a bizarre error with our application at a customer site. We have managed to narrow it down to the point where we can replicate the behaviour using just Management Studio and SQL Server. We have two machines, A and B: +------------+ +--------------------+ | [A] | | [B] | | Management | -------------- | SQL Server 2008 R2 | | Studio | | Enterprise x64 | +------------+ +--------------------+ We are running a SQL script in Management Studio on machine A against the SQL Server instance on machine B. We are not actually executing the script, just parsing it. Most of the time, the parse operation works fine. Occasionally (seemingly randomly), the parse operation fails with a syntax error. The error message shows the part of the script with the error, which appears as some SQL from the original script that has been truncated and has random characters appended to it. An example: The original SQL: SELECT DISTINCT ST.TABLE_NAME as TableName FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES AS ST INNER JOIN INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS AS SC ON SC.TABLE_NAME = ST.TABLE_NAME WHERE ST.TABLE_TYPE = 'BASE TABLE' AND SC.COLUMN_NAME = 'Identity' AND ST.TABLE_NAME != 'dtproperties' ORDER BY ST.TABLE_NAME The SQL that is in error (as reported by SQL Server): SELECT DISTINCT ST.TABLE_NAME as TableName FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES AS ST INNER JOIN INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS AS SC ON SC.TABLE_NAME = Sa? The above example shows how the query is being corrupted. It doesn't always happen, and is not always the same bit of SQL that causes the error. Parsing this script against another SQL Server instance produces no errors, showing that the script is fine. It appears that something is corrupting the SQL that is being received the the server. This leads me to think that the problem lies either with the client end or in the transmission of the SQL from the client to the server. I have a SQL trace from the period where an error occurs, which shows the SQL has been corrupted when SQL Server receives it. We have been unable to track down any possible cause of this behaviour, and so cannot find a fix. Because the errors occur seemingly randomly, it is also very hard to generate reproduction steps to submit a bug report. Any ideas?

    have a terminal server 2003 that about 50users can use, users are saving documents on the desktop, today users complain that documents on the desktop is missing, no upgrades or changes has been done the error is that the server reverted to load items the folder name "Desktop" instaed of using the local language "Skrivbord" (swedish for desktop) So the files are still on the server located under the users swedish folder name, but server does not load it, server however does load files located under the English folder name how can the terminal server from one day to another just change from where it loads the user profile desktop files?

  • Cloning a WebCenter Portal Managed Server

    I had to run some tests on a WebCenter Portal application deployed in a cluster. I've got a development VM with WebCenter PS4 (this also works on PS5) and I was trying to figure out how could I easily add a new managed server to my single-node domain, and make it a cluster. Creating the machine and cluster are a piece of cake, you can do it pretty quick through WLS Console. Now, you'd guess that using the clone option on WLS Console would do the magic of cloning an existing instance, right? Well, it does, but all you get is an "empty" managed server: with no target libraries.  It was a good surprise to find that WebCenter provides a way of cloning an existing WebCenter Portal managed server through a simple WLST command: cloneWebCenterManagedServer  This is a screenshot of my starting point. I want to clone WC_CustomPortal managed server: These are the steps to clone my WC_CustomPortal managed server: 1. In the command line, invoke WLST. It should be on <ORACLE_HOME_for_component>/common/bin/wlst.sh. In my case, it is ./product/Middleware/WebCenterPortal/common/bin/wlst.sh 2. Connect to the Admin Server:  connect ('<wls_admin_username>','<password>','t3://<server>:<port>') 3.     Hi all, me and my very good friend do a small bussiness. We have company and we develop web apps using Scala. We have started 3 months ago and we have a lot of work now. We cannot afford to employ another programmer because we can't pay him now. Until now we try to manage entire developing process very simply. We use excel sheets for simple bug tracking and we work on client requests on the fly. We have no plan for next week or something similar. But now I find it very inefficient and useless. I am trying to find some rules or some methodology for small team or for only two guys. For example Scrum is, imo, unadapted for us. There are a lot of roles (ScrumMaster, Product Owner, Team...) and it seems overkill. Can you something advise me? Have you any experiences with software management in small teams? Is any methodology of current agile development fitten for pair of programmers? Is there any software management for simple bug tracking, maybe wiki or time management for two coders? thanks a lot for sharing.

The following things have to be chosen: Build and Version Numbering Project documentation ( file with the most common info for current stage of the project, which will be changed every time the new version or subversion of the project emerges ) Project management tool ( like Trac or Redmine, I cannot use them, because there is no hosting ) Code documentation ( I consider Doxygen ) The following questions have arisen: What can you add to the above list of the main solutions for project management in the described project? One of three project participants has linux os (No MS Office), one has Windows and MS Office (does not want to use Libre or Open Office), one has Windows, but does not have MS Office. What formats, tools can u suggest using for project documentation? The variant of using online wiki does not fit, it must be files. OneNote mb is a good tool for project management, but because of the reason mentioned above it is not possible. What can you advise? Offer a system for Build and Version Numbering.

How do you find new shortcuts to master, and how do you change them to match ones you’ve already learned in other tools? These are the driving questions for today’s post. While some of us may be keyboard ninjas, and others are more driven to use the mouse – everyone has probably picked up a few strategic keyboard shortcuts over the years. For example, I’ve personally JUST memorized the Cmd-Shift-4 ‘trick’ in Mac OS X. And of course we all know what F1 does, right? Right?!? Here are a few more keyboard shortcuts to commit to memory.   • VS2008 adding SQL Server Database (SQL Server 2008 Mgmt Studio) not working

    I'm trying to practice using the ASP.Net MVC at home, but I ran into an impossible problem. I cannot open a connection to SQL Server 2008, I get this error: "Connections to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly. ..." I've googled around for numerous responses, none of them either working or addressing this issue. I'm running Vista 32bit, my SQL Server 2008 Mgmt Studio is also 32bit, I have SP1 installed both on VS2008 Professional, as well as the SQL Server. I changed the machine.config connectionStrings from ./SQLExpress to my SQL Server 2008 name. Now if I connect manually through web.config, in an asp:datasource or code-behind, everything works fine. But for some reason trying to add a DB Connection directly like this always gets the error. This is pretty fatal, since I can't rightly do much unless I can use LINQ to SQL with my MVC test project, and this is the only way I know how. Worked fine in school and work, but not at home. Installing SQL Server Express 2005, as some have suggested, is not an option. Obviously it HAS to work with SQL Server 2008. Thanks in advance.

    When trying to install SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 to a SQL Server 2008 instance that is running on a virtual machine, the installer will start:   But then after about 20 seconds I receive the following error message: TITLE: SQL Server Setup failure. ----------------------------- SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error: Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created. ------------------------------ BUTTONS: OK ------------------------------ Searching for this issue I found that several people have the same problem and there is no clear solution.  Some had success with closing windows or Internet Explorer but that didn’t work for me; what did work is to make sure the SQL Server 2008 “Please wait while SQL Server 2008 Setup processes the current operation.” dialog is selected and has the focus when it first shows up.  Selected (with the current focus) it looks like this:   Without focus the dialog looks like this: Add a comment if you find out any information about how to consistently get around this issue or why it is happening in the first place.

    I am a relative newbie when it comes to SQL Azure!! I was wondering if there was a definitive list somewhere regarding what is and is not supported by SQL Azure in regards to SQL Server 2008?   • Standard -server to server- and -browser to server- authentication method

    I have server with some resources; until now all these resources were requested through a browser by a human user, and the authentication was made with an username/password method, that generates a cookie with a token (to have the session open for some time). Right now the system requires that other servers make GET requests to this resource server but they have to authenticate to get them. We have been using a list of authorized IPs but having two authentication methods makes the code more complex. My questions are: Is there any standard method or pattern to authenticate human users and servers using the same code? If there is not, are the methods I'm using now the right ones or is there a better / more standard way to accomplish what I need? Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

A big part of the product is allowing its users the ability to create queries with SQL to pull in business information from their back end databases. I know the very basics of SQL and need to spend some time getting a better grasp on SQL. I have the tutorial from w3schools on my ToDo list, but was hoping to get some answers that point me to good resources for learning SQL. I have no preference - I can buy a book (SQL For Dummies?), or online resources, online videos, audio, etc.
