• Issue with Mapping Textures to Models in Blender

  I've been trying to texture a model using Blender, but when I draw on the UV Editor it doesn't show up on the model, and I can't draw on the model itself. I've tried saving the image and the 3D View is set to Texture. Everything seems to be in order and I've followed several tutorials, but none of them seem to work with the version I'm using (2.64-- update was necessary for import plugin) and I'm absolutely stumped. How can I draw textures to the model? If not within Blender itself, how do I export/import the textures? EDIT: Vertex Paint works, though it is insufficient for my purposes. In addition, moving to the rendered view produces a solid-color model with none of the applied textures.

• HP Pavilion tx2000 - Wifi adapter no longer works after moving from 12.04 to a 12.10 clean install

  I have a HP Pavilion tx2000 that I have been running Ubuntu 12.04 on for a couple of months without any problems (wifi worked great) until yesterday when my hard drive failed. I replaced the hard drive and decided to install Ubuntu 12.10. Unlike 12.04, the wifi did not work after the installation finished and all the updates where installed (over Ethernet). The network drop down in the top right didn't even show a wireless option. I Googled about for a bit and found some solutions that seemed like they might work. Unfortunately they did not. Here is what I tried: sudo apt-get remove bcmwl-kernel-source sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-lpphy-installer Restart the computer. And the wifi still didn't work. At which point I panicked a bit and tried to undo the previous commands by running: sudo apt-get remove b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-lpphy-installer sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source Restart the computer. The wifi still doesn't work. This is where I stopped because I have no idea what I am doing and don't want to mess something up. The network drop down still doesn't show a wireless option and the hardware wifi switch on the laptop is amber (it turns blue when the wifi is on). Pushing the hardware switch turns the hard block back on and I have to run sudo rfkill unblock all multiple times again to turn it off. Any help is appreciated! • Can't get my Blue Snowflake Mic to work

  Just a quick post I should've done yesterday but I was recovering from SQL Saturday #48 in Columbia, SC, where I went to some really excellent sessions by some very smart experts.  If you have not yet attended a SQL Saturday, or its been more than 1 month since you last did, SIGN UP NOW! While searching the OBJECT_DEFINITION() of SQL Server system procedures I stumbled across the DEFAULT_DOMAIN() function in xp_grantlogin and xp_revokelogin.  I couldn't find any information on it in Books Online, and it's a very simple, self-explanatory function, but it could be useful if you work in a multi-domain environment.  It's also the kind of neat thing you can find by using this query: SELECT OBJECT_SCHEMA_NAME([object_id]) object_schema, name FROM sys.all_objects WHERE OBJECT_DEFINITION([object_id]) LIKE '%()%'  ORDER BY 1,2 I'll post some elaborations and enhancements to this query in a later post, but it will get you started exploring the functional SQL Server sea. • What to do when issue-tracker is down?

  It has happened in our team that our issue-tracker is down. Happens about once a week now (yes, wow), and there's not really much we can do to get it back up, since it's hosted by our client in a different timezone. It sometimes takes several hours for it to be operative again. In the meanwhile, we can't really tell which issues we were working on, and in case we do, we cannot update those issues, as in moving them through the workflow, logging used hours, checking the issue's description, leaving comments, and so on. So the question is: how can we, as a team, work in the meanwhile so that when the issue-tracker is up again, we have the least possible hassle updating it with what we've been working?

• Editable block: CMS or PHP script?

  I'm designing a Website for a restaurant. The site will be fairly static except for a 'specials' block which the client will need to update on a daily basis. I'm more of a designer/front-end developer so I was wondering if I was better off trying to make a block editable in PHP (a language I hardly ever deal with) or just create the website in a user-friendly CMS such as Wordpress (which I have some experience with) or Expression Engine (which I have no experience with but I'm told is a favorite in the design community)... certainly not Drupal, because even though I have theming experience with it, I think it would be a little overkill for just one editable block in a five-page site. I'm leaning towards an easy to use CMS because I'm really just not comfortable writing my own PHP especially since I guess a PHP solution would also require an authentication solution so only the client could get in to edit their info. Any insight would be appreciated!

• XNA RTS A* pathfinding issues

  I'm starting to develop an RTS game using the XNA framework in C# and am still in the very early prototyping stage. I'm working on the basics. I've got unit selection down and am currently working on moving multiple units. I've implemented an A* pathfinding algorithm which works fine for moving a single unit. However when moving multiple units they stack on top of each other. I tried fixing this with a variation of the boids flocking algorithm but this has caused units to sometimes freeze and get stuck trying to move but going no where. Ill post the related methods for moving the units below but ill only post a link to the pathfinding class because its really long and i don't want to clutter up the page. • Unable to connect to iFolder server

  I tried to install iFolder on Ubuntu 10.10 server 64 bit using this guide. Everything "worked" except: If I try to acccess the server with http://myurl/admin I get the error-message "Unable to connect to the iFolder server." Has anyone succeeded with this guide, or is there an iFolder specialist who could help me with the last steps? Update 1: I could connect to the /admin-Interface by not changin anything in the config-script. Changing the ServerName in anything else than localhost brings back the error. And changing username and/or password has no affect.

• How to open files which are located in VirtualBox's Guest Machine from Netbeans of Host Machine

  I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed in my Host Machine and it has VirtualBox. I have Guest Machine wich runs Ubuntu 10.10. I have NetBeans installed in Host Machine and need to open my project files which are located in Guest Machine. The reason I need it is because in my working place I have not access to install any applications, that is why I have Guest Machine where I have Web Server installed on it and also I have one web application that I am developing. I need to open that web application files from Guest Machine's Netbeans in order to modify/create new files for my web application. I have configured SSH server of Guest Machine and added port redirection in the VirtualBox so that now I can connect to it from Host Machine. But I could not find any way to open those files from Netbeans. Could anybody give me advice about how can I do that please? UPDATE I forgot to say that I don't want to use SharedFolders.

• Structure gameobjects and call events

  I'm working on a 2D tile based game in which the player interacts with other game objects (chests, AI, Doors, Houses etc...). The entire map will be stored in a file which I can read. When loading the tilemap, it will find any tile with the ID that represents a gameobject and store it in a hashmap (right data structure I think?). private static HashMap<Integer, Class<GameObject>> gameObjects = new HashMap<Integer, Class<GameObject>>(); How exactly would I go about calling, and checking for events? I figure that I would just call the update, render and input methods of each gameobject using the hashmap. Should I got towards a Minecraft/Bukkit approach (sorry only example I can think of), where the user registers an event, and it gets called whenever that event happens, and where should I go as in resources to learn about that type of programming, (Java, LWJGL). Or should I just loop through the entire hashmap looking for an event that fits? Thanks waco

• Reinstalling GRUB2 on Ubuntu 12.04 | Windows 7 dual boot after Windows reinstallation

  So I had the perfect Ubuntu 12 / Windows 7 dual boot set-up -- until I had to re-install Windows 7. After the deed, GRUB2 was of course wiped out, thus my Ubuntu installation is rendered inaccessible. I have tried these steps: mount /dev/sda5 /mnt #This is where my Ubuntu installation resides. mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/boot #Indicated by the `*` under `Boot` when doing `fdisk -l` mount --bind /mnt/proc /proc mount --bind /mnt/sys /sys mount --bind /mnt/dev /dev sudo chroot mnt sudo grub-install /dev/sda sudo update-grub #Then unmounted everything... Unfortunately, only my Windows 7 has been detected and the Ubuntu entries never appeared in the prompt. Only my Windows 7 installation (/dev/sda1) is available in the GRUB2 menu. How can I rectify this?

• Cannot boot Ubuntu 12.04 on Lenovo V570 fresh install

  I just did a fresh install of Kubuntu 64 bit 12.04 (from the DVD) to a Lenovo V570 laptop. I did a dual boot install with Windows 7. I used the boot layout leftover from Linux Mint 12 (which was working). The installation finished with what seemed to be a success. However, when rebooting, I get this error: GRUB: “invalid arch independent ELF magic” after install on SSD Then I did grub-install and update-grub (I didn't install grub-efi, so maybe this is the problem?) Then I got "unknown filesystem error" at the grub prompt. Desperately, I gave /boot the bootable flag. Then on a reboot,... I got some strange screen with the letters PXE. It flashed momentarily, too fast to read, and then the computer jumped to a screen which asked me from which drive was the boot desired to be. As of now, I have no idea what I am doing.

For example if the user sets its keyboard layout to en-us , I need a bash command that prints me this. How can I get that information? Update: setxkbmap -query is unfortunatelly not working. • Problem with gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme

  I'm trying to install themes with gnome tweak, and I need to install gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme because otherwise I cannot see the shell extensions tab. However, I cannot install shell extensions. I have tried to install by adding the PPA with the following: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/gnome3 Then, sudo apt-get update Finally, when I try to install: sudo apt-get install gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme It gives an error: The following packages have unmet dependencies: gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme : Depends: gnome-shell-extensions-common but it is not going to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. I am convinced that there is a problem with the package. So I went on and tried to install the extensions from the website: https://extensions.gnome.org/ But even though I use Firefox (15.0), I cannot see the "switch" that is being mentioned to install the extension. Maybe the version of Firefox is too new. Is there any workaround that you know of? (By the way, I use Ubuntu 12.04, freshly downloaded and installed.)

• How to get exfat working in Ubuntu 13.10?

  In Ubuntu 13.04 there was an option to use the PPA by Relan in order to get ExFat functionality. Seeing that in Ubuntu 13.10 this functionality is available from the repositories without the PPA I tried this but failed to make it work. Trying the PPA in Ubuntu 13.10 does not yield results either, as it complains about missing the fuse-utils package. This package seems to have been removed (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/saucy/amd64/fuse-utils). So my question is, did the process of using ExFat change since the jump from Ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10 and how do I enable it? Old Way sudo apt-add-repository ppa:relan/exfat sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install exfat-fuse exfat-utils Tried now via Ubuntu Software Center sudo apt-get install exfat-utils exfat-fuse
