    I have 2 input textboxes that take a host or IP. When the user leaves an input box an event is fired that checks the input to see if it is actually a live computer. The results are then put into the appropriate label. My question is, should I be using separate events for each input box, since they update different labels? Or, can I use 1 event and check who the caller was, then update the appropriate label?

Now one of the column in the datatable is type of DateTime.That column I added by code Table.Columns.Add(new DataColumn("TradingDate",System.Type.GetType("System.DateTime"))); Now I want to sort the records datewise in ascending order. I have used following code but the records are not sorted. DataView view = new DataView(Table); view.Sort = "TradingDate ASC"; dataGridView1.DataSource=view.Table; But records are not sorted so how to do it ?

  • Alternative way to notify the user of an error

    I have a winform software that communicates with hardware through a protocol. Sometimes error in communication happens and i would like to notify the user. Errors could be for example: timeouts, crc errors, physical disconnection etc... I have a communication window in which i show these errors, but by default this is hidden. The user can open it though the menubar. Popups are annoying to the user (and to myself) so i would like a un-invasive way to notify the user that an error has occurred. Perhaps a info bubble like when XP tells you updates are ready for your computer? I know that NotifyIcon can help put things in the system tray, which i do not wish to have. I'd rather keep it within my MDI. I'm open to other creative ideas as well.

But now it's just not working. private void Form1_Deactivate(object sender, EventArgs e) { this.Size = new Size(30, 29); txt.Visible = false; lbl.Visible = false; } The form just does not change Width. But, as above, the 3 controls DO become invisible. Any suggestions?

    In a C# Winform application (3.5) there are numerous forms each with different listview controls. While each listview control uses different datasets the basic formatting of each remains the same. Basic formatting takes this form: /* appearance */ this.lstA.View = View.Details; this.lstA.AllowColumnReorder = true; this.lstA.CheckBoxes = false; this.lstA.FullRowSelect = true; this.lstA.GridLines = false; this.lstA.Sorting = SortOrder.Ascending; What I would like to do is create a class that can be used to set the initial format of the listview. How do I pass the listview (by reference?) to the class so that the appearance properties can be set?

  • allow only distinct values in ComboBox

    In my project, I am trying to populate ComboBox from DataSet. I succeeded in populating but the values inside the ComboBox are not distinct (Because it just showing the values present in DataSet). I cant bind the ComboBox to DataSet because I am adding "Select" text at first of populating the values. Here is my code.   • How can I hide a property from going into the form designer file?

    I am working in VB.NET 2010 Framework 2.0. I don't want to allow some properties from going into form's designer file but the those properties will present on the form(property grid). The behavior of these properties will be same always. I used the following code: <DesignerSerializationVisibility(DesignerSerializationVisibility.Hidden)> Public Property GradientBegin() As Color = Color.Red But the problem I am facing is that - on the property grid after changing the "GradientBegin" color to other than RED and compiling the program, it is replacing the new changed value to RED again. So I am not able to change the color actually. How can I achieve this? Thanks for any reply in advance.

  • Determine how an application is closed

    I am trying to determine if my application is closed through clicking the "X" on the windows form, or if they clicked an "Exit" button I have on it. Right now I am using StackTrace.GetFrame(someIndex) to determine how, but i am looking for a more definitive way since it looks like these frame orders arent guaranteed. Is there a better way to make the distinction? This is a .NET 3.5 WinForm, and Im writing in C#.

  • Best way to implement some type of ITaggable interface

    I've got a program I'm creating that reports on another certain programs backup xml files. I've gotten to the point where I need to implement some type of ITaggable interface - but am unsure how to go about it code wise. My idea is that each item (BackupClient, BackupVersion, and BackupFile) should implement an ITaggable interface for highlighting old, out of date, or non-existent files in their HTML or Excel report. The user will be able to specify tags in the settings. My question is this, how can a user dynamically specify a "tag" such as File Date 3 days old? - Background Color = Red. Actually I guess my question is more, how can I, the programmer, implement this dynamically? I was thinking Expression trees, but am unsure this is the way to go as I havn't studied them much. I know my ITaggable interface would have methods such as AddTag(T tag), RemoveTag(T tag), but what exactly specifies the criteria for the tag to be added? I realize this may be subjective, and can be marked as wiki if need be, but I truly am stuck. Any input would be greatly helpful!

    I am learning GDI+ and I am trying to make a display window with scroll bars (so I can only see part of the image at a time and I can scroll around it). I have read through the basics of GDI+ from several books but I have not found any good tutorials online or in books available to me about doing more advanced things like this. Any recommendations on guides or example code on how do do this?   • Why doesn't Win Forms application update label immediately?

    I am doing some experimenting with threads, and made a 'control' method to compare against where all the processing happens in the UI thread. It should run a method, which will update a label at the end. This method runs four times, but the labels are not updated until all 4 have completed. I expected one label to get updated about every 2 seconds.
