  • Creating a image viewer window controll.

    I am learning GDI+ and I am trying to make a display window with scroll bars (so I can only see part of the image at a time and I can scroll around it). I have read through the basics of GDI+ from several books but I have not found any good tutorials online or in books available to me about doing more advanced things like this. Any recommendations on guides or example code on how do do this? P.S. Label is a custom class that I have in my namespace, it is a object that represents a label you would print from a label printer.

    Hi, I have a parent form that contains a lot of controls. What I am trying to do is filter all of the key presses for that form. The trouble is that if the focus is on one of the controls on the form then the parent form is not getting the key press event, so how do I capture the key down event? Thanks, R.

  • Why can I check some event handlers for null, some not?

    Hi, I have a ugly piece of code that adds event handlers. The problem is, if the code is called multiple times, the event handlers are called multiple times. To solve the problem, I remove the event handler first and then add it. Now I've seen the following behaviour: Some event handlers can be checked like: if (object.event == null) { // // Code // } others of the form if (object.object.event == null) { // // Code // } I get a message like 'object.object.event' may only occur left of -= or +=. (Since I'm using a german version of visual studio, I don't know the correct translation to english). I have no idea why the behaviour looks this inconsequent so I would be grateful for some information on this.   • Multiple selection in a TreeView

    I am using a Windows Forms TreeView control in my program. I would like to allow the user to select multiple nodes at the same level by dragging their mouse pointer around (also called a "lasso" selection). I don't think a standard TreeView allows that. My question is what would be the best way to achieve this? Do I have to write custom selection behaviour of my own in perhaps a custom or derived control? Where do I start? I don't need a detailed explanation. Just a small nudge in the right direction.

  • Displaying Data on the Windows Form

    I'm searching files and returning lines that include the search text, and I'm not really sure the best way to display the information I get. Every time I get a match, I want to show, in some sort of control, the File it came from, and the whole text line. (aka streamreader.ReadLine() result). First I tried just putting it all in a read-only text box, but it doesn't have a scroll bar. What is the best form control to help me display this data neatly?

  • Treeview remove property problem

    Hi, i added a SampleNode to the treeview. if i remove any node from SampleNode, like, TreeNode[] nodes = this.SampleNode.Nodes.Find(node.Text, true); if (nodes.Length > 0) { int j = nodes[0].Index; if (nodes.Length > 0) this.SampleNode.Nodes[j].Remove(); } it is deleted in treeview but not in SampleNode. Why does this happens? what is the solution?

  • Why doesn't Win Forms application update label immediately?

    I am doing some experimenting with threads, and made a 'control' method to compare against where all the processing happens in the UI thread. It should run a method, which will update a label at the end. This method runs four times, but the labels are not updated until all 4 have completed. I expected one label to get updated about every 2 seconds.     I have seen many responses that say that prefixing variables with their type is bad, since C# is statically typed and we have Intellisense, but I find that prefixing the names of the controls is useful because I don't need to remember the name of the controls or switch to the designer frequently. For example: btnLoad // Button tbFilePath // TextBox tvFileSystem // TreeView Is this considered bad? If it is, what's the alternative?

  • Determine how an application is closed

    I am trying to determine if my application is closed through clicking the "X" on the windows form, or if they clicked an "Exit" button I have on it. Right now I am using StackTrace.GetFrame(someIndex) to determine how, but i am looking for a more definitive way since it looks like these frame orders arent guaranteed. Is there a better way to make the distinction? This is a .NET 3.5 WinForm, and Im writing in C#.

    In my project I observed that in a FormClosed method (that handles FormClosed event) is set MdiParent = Nothing (null). This code makes (? no idea why) that OnLoad(method) on some child panels is raised. Is there any sense to set MdiParent to null (Nothing) in FormClosed?

    I have a control that I need to restrict the types of child controls that it can contain during design time (dragging a new control onto an existing control on the form designer). What does this mean? How can I accomplish this without errors occurring?
