• MySQL UNHEX to text

- by boj
I have a forum application that stores data about users in MySQL. There's a field called 'password' of type 'varbinary(100), with the function UNHEX, and then a string of hexadecimal characters. I was wondering how secure this was, so I googled around trying to find how to convert it to text, and I couldn't find anything. So my question is as follows: Is it possible to convert this to text? How would one go about doing this?

• Is DHCP required on a Win2003 secondary DNS server?

- by Mark
We have a secondary DNS server and we've been noticing that the DNS.exe process is getting rather large. (Like, rebooting the server large) I read something somewhere that 2k3 has two relevant memory leak issues, one is the DNS (supposedly fixed in 2007), and another for DHCP. DHCP is running on this server, but I don't see why. Hence my question. Is the DHCP service required for (secondary) DNS to function? Server has: 24 cores (X5650), 8GB RAM

• Proxy to restrict access to certain websites

- by ChrisRamakers
Hi all, I'm looking for a solution that allows our office server to function as a proxy that blocks access to certain websites for certain LAN ip's. The solution i'm looking for has to meet these requirements: run on ubuntu server restrict access to certain websites based on a LAN ip (eg: shut out xxx.com for 192.168.1.152) restrict access to a website based on the website url (eg: shut out *.facebook.com) easily configurable (preferably through a web interface, our office manager should be able to operate it thus no commandline fu if possible) preferably opensource Thanks for your time!

• Synaptics Touchpad on Dell Inspiron Stops Responding Sometimes.

- by DaveDev
Sometimes for no reason that I can observe my Synaptics touchpad will stop responding to scroll the scroll function (I swipe my finger down the right side). I then have to reboot to get it back. Does anyone know how to fix this? Preferably without upgrading the driver - I upgraded the driver before and it turned out to be crap. I don't want to do that again. I have an Inspiron 9400 with Windows XP Media Centre Edition

• Lefthand SAN questions.

- by Gk
I'm curious about Lefthand SAN solutions from HP. People from Dell have told me that Lefthand SAN's require at least two nodes and data must be mirroring between them so capacity is a half less compare to other SAN technology (e.g.Equal Logic). Is it true? Can a HP lefhand SAN be used as a stand-alone storage server with full RAID function (1, 10, 5)? TIA, -giobuon

• Toast vs Disk Util?

- by Grishanko
I have several users that are insisting on the purchase of Toast. They will be using it to make backups of disks at possibly re-burn them if needed. I have used Disk Utility for that function. At this point there is no addition functionality needed. However, that can always change in the future. Is there any advantages or disadvantages to either solution?

• Which keymap to use for wired mac keyboard in Gentoo Linux?

- by Absolute0
I just purchase the new wired mac keyboard: Running on Gentoo Linux it works mostly fine. The only problem i am having is the function keys and swapping the alt and command keys to resemble a regular pc keyboard. When I tried switching to the "mac-us" keymap in /etc/conf.d/keymaps I got garbage when typing (not even qwerty). Is there any specific keymap that I can use to get what I want?

• osx: launch a program when another program opens

- by metasequoia
I would like a method for starting a program when another program starts. Specifically, I’d like a to open a MS Word document and have my citation manager open simultaneously (EndNote supports this function within MS Word preferences, but I recently switched citation managers). I’d like to be able to open any existing Word document on my drive and trigger the second program. The same question was recently answered for the windows 7 environment.

• How do I Ban/un-ban users in Hamachi2?

- by Paige Watson
I was using Hamachi (v1) and banned a couple of users for a week. During this time, Hamachi auto-updated to Hamachi2, and now I can't find the ban/un-ban function. Any idea where this is and how to un-ban a user? I tried re-installing the Hamachi (v1) client, but when I started it, it auto-updated to v2.

• How to implement drag and drop in Flex Grid control?

- by Bogdan
I have a simple Grid control with some buttons that I want to be able to move around. The code below does work, but it takes a lot of effort to actually do the drag&drop and it is not clear where the drop will happen. I have to move the mouse around a lot to get to a state where the drop is not rejected. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to make this more "user friendly". <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="vertical" verticalAlign="middle" horizontalAlign="center" height="200" width="200"> <mx:Script> import mx.containers.GridItem; import mx.controls.Button; import mx.core.DragSource; import mx.events.*; import mx.managers.DragManager; private function dragInit(event:MouseEvent):void { if(event.buttonDown) { var button:Button = event.currentTarget as Button; var dragSource:DragSource = new DragSource(); dragSource.addData(button, 'button'); DragManager.doDrag(button, dragSource, event); } } private function dragEnter(event:DragEvent): void { var target:GridItem = event.currentTarget as GridItem; if (event.dragSource.hasFormat('button') && target.getChildren().length == 0) { DragManager.acceptDragDrop(target); DragManager.showFeedback(DragManager.MOVE); } } private function dragDrop(event:DragEvent): void { var target:GridItem = event.currentTarget as GridItem; var button:Button = event.dragSource.dataForFormat('button') as Button; target.addChild(button); } </mx:Script> <mx:Grid> <mx:GridRow width="100%" height="100%"> <mx:GridItem width="44" height="44" dragEnter="dragEnter(event)" dragDrop="dragDrop(event)"> </mx:GridItem> <mx:GridItem width="44" height="44" dragEnter="dragEnter(event)" dragDrop="dragDrop(event)"> </mx:GridItem> <mx:GridItem width="44" height="44" dragEnter="dragEnter(event)" dragDrop="dragDrop(event)"> <mx:Button label="A" width="40" height="40" mouseMove="dragInit(event)"/> </mx:GridItem> </mx:GridRow> <mx:GridRow width="100%" height="100%"> <mx:GridItem width="44" height="44" dragEnter="dragEnter(event)" dragDrop="dragDrop(event)"> </mx:GridItem> <mx:GridItem width="44" height="44" dragEnter="dragEnter(event)" dragDrop="dragDrop(event)"> <mx:Button label="B" width="40" height="40" mouseMove="dragInit(event)"/> </mx:GridItem> <mx:GridItem width="44" height="44" dragEnter="dragEnter(event)" dragDrop="dragDrop(event)"> </mx:GridItem> </mx:GridRow> <mx:GridRow width="100%" height="100%"> <mx:GridItem width="44" height="44" dragEnter="dragEnter(event)" dragDrop="dragDrop(event)"> <mx:Button label="C" width="40" height="40" mouseMove="dragInit(event)"/> </mx:GridItem> <mx:GridItem width="44" height="44" dragEnter="dragEnter(event)" dragDrop="dragDrop(event)"> </mx:GridItem> <mx:GridItem width="44" height="44" dragEnter="dragEnter(event)" dragDrop="dragDrop(event)"> </mx:GridItem> </mx:GridRow> </mx:Grid> <mx:Style> GridItem { borderColor: #A09999; borderStyle: solid; borderThickness: 2; horizontal-align: center; vertical-align: center; } Grid { borderColor: #A09999; borderStyle: solid; borderThickness: 2; horizontalGap: 0; verticalGap: 0; horizontal-align: center; vertical-align: center; } </mx:Style> </mx:Application>

• Asp.net Google Charts SSL handler for GeoMap

- by Ian
Hi All, I am trying to view Google charts in a site using SSL. Google Charts do not support SSL so if we use the standard charts, we get warning messages. My plan is to create a ASHX handler that is co9ntained in the secure site that will retrieve the content from Google and serve this to the page the user is viewing. Using VS 2008 SP1 and the included web server, my idea works perfectly for both Firefox and IE 8 & 9(Preview) and I am able to see my geomap displayed on my page as it should be. But my problem is when I publish to IIS7 the page using my handler to generate the geomap works in Firefox but not IE(every version). There are no errors anywhere or in any log files, but when i right click in IE in the area where the map should be displayed, I see the message in the context menu saying "movie not loaded" Below is the code from my handler and the aspx page. I have disabled compression in my web.config. Even in IE I am hitting all my break points and when I use the IE9 Developer tools, the web page is correctly generated with all the correct code, url's and references. If you have any better ways to accomplish this or how i can fix my problem, I will appreciate it. Thanks Ian Handler(ASHX) public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) { String url = "http://charts.apis.google.com/jsapi"; string query = context.Request.QueryString.ToString(); if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(query)) { url = query; } HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)HttpWebRequest.Create(new Uri(HttpUtility.UrlDecode(url))); request.UserAgent = context.Request.UserAgent; WebResponse response = request.GetResponse(); string PageContent = string.Empty; StreamReader Reader; Stream webStream = response.GetResponseStream(); string contentType = response.ContentType; context.Response.BufferOutput = true; context.Response.ContentType = contentType; context.Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache); context.Response.Cache.SetNoServerCaching(); context.Response.Cache.SetMaxAge(System.TimeSpan.Zero); string newUrl = IanLearning.Properties.Settings.Default.HandlerURL; //"https://localhost:444/googlesecurecharts.ashx?"; if (response.ContentType.Contains("javascript")) { Reader = new StreamReader(webStream); PageContent = Reader.ReadToEnd(); PageContent = PageContent.Replace("http://", newUrl + "http://"); PageContent = PageContent.Replace("charts.apis.google.com", newUrl + "charts.apis.google.com"); PageContent = PageContent.Replace(newUrl + "http://maps.google.com/maps/api/", "http://maps.google.com/maps/api/"); context.Response.Write(PageContent); } else { { byte[] bytes = ReadFully(webStream); context.Response.BinaryWrite(bytes); } } context.Response.Flush(); response.Close(); webStream.Close(); context.Response.End(); context.ApplicationInstance.CompleteRequest(); } ASPX Page <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Site2.Master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="googlechart.aspx.cs" Inherits="IanLearning.googlechart" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="head" runat="server"> </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="ContentPlaceHolder1" runat="server">

</asp:Content>

• rJava - how to call an abstract class method?

- by Sarah
I am trying to create an R function that taps into my JAVA code. I have an abstract class, let's say StudentGroup, that has abstract methods, and one method "getAppropriateStudentGroup" which returns (based on config) a class which extends StudentGroup. This allows calling classes to behave the same regardless of which StudentGroups is actually appropriate. 1) How can I use rJava to call getAppropriateStudentGroup? and 2) How can I call the methods on the returned class? Thank you!

• splitting off an emacs window into a new frame

- by user38983
From a frame displaying multiple windows, I'd like to be able to 'break' one of the windows off into another frame, perhaps with a modifier-click on the modeline, where the window would now have its own frame but hold the same buffer and position. I was wondering if this behavior was available somewhere in the standard library, if there was an extension for it, or perhaps if a small elisp function would work.

• DirectX 10 Primitive is not displayed

I am trying to write my first DirectX 10 program that displays a triangle. Everything compiles fine, and the render function is called, since the background changes to black. • Launch remote NX sessions using metacity while local sessions use compiz?

- by Pandemonium
I'm using gnome with compiz (gtk-window-decorator) on Arch Linux for my desktop. I installed FreeNX from the repo, but when I connect remotely it does not render any window decorations. I can make the window decorations appear and function as normal by opening a command prompt and typing: metacity --replace I'm fine with using metacity for remote sessions, but I want gtk-window-decorator when using the machine locally. Is it possible to make it run metacity for FreeNX sessions and gtk-window-decorator for local sessions?

• How to check if Emacs is in GUI mode (and execute `tool-bar-mode` only then)?

- by dehmann
I have this line in my .emacs file: (tool-bar-mode 0) because I hate the toolbars in my GUI emacs (/Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/Emacs). But when I start up my other, text-based emacs in the terminal (/opt/local/bin/emacs) it complains about that command: Symbol's function definition is void: tool-bar-mode How can I add an if condition so that it executes the tool-bar-mode command only when I'm in the GUI emacs? Thanks!
