  • Excel 2007 VBA macros don't work in Parallels

    I've got a complex Excel spreadsheet I need to use at work. My colleagues use the spreadsheet on Windows PC's, with no special configuration required. I want to run it on a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard. The spreadsheet contains VBA macros which connect to external Oracle db's over the Internet. If I understand correctly, Excel on the Mac doesn't run VBA macros, so I have to use Parallels. I installed Parallels on the Mac and it's running correctly, as far as I can tell. I installed Excel 2007 under Parallels. I can open the Excel spreadsheet in Parallels and click buttons in the spreadsheet to run macros, but the macros fail with compiler errors. I don't have the password to the source code for the VBA macros, and if possible, I don't want to dig in to the code at that level. I know that there are quite a few things that could go wrong, and examining the VBA code might help, but I'm hoping to solve the problem without going down that road. The spreadsheet runs without any special configuration on Windows, so I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of any limitations of Excel VBA macros under Parallels, or anything else I could do to get this spreadsheet working.   • Google Contacts and Mac OS X Address Book

    The sync that Google offers for Google Contacts < Mac OS X Address Book is seriously flawed. It doesn't sync automatically, it doesn't sync all contacts, it doesn't sync all fields. See here for a list of warnings and issues. Is there a better way to sync Google Contacts to Mac Address Book bidirectionally? Preferably free, and preferably without adding extra software. I have tried to do it through Plaxo (which has an excellent Mac Address Book sync, albeit through an extra software install), but Plaxo doesn't handle Google Sync well (no updates). UPDATE: For the new Mac OS X Snow Leopard this shouldn't be an issue. This question is looking for a Leopard answer.

  • Daisy Chain a VNC

    Part 1. Theoretically, would daisy chaining a VNC work? EG, If I wanted to VNC into a specific computer on a different network could I VNC into a computer onto that network and ultimately get into the computer I need? So computers A, B, C, D, and E, are all on different networks from one another. I'm at A, could I VNC into B, then C, then D, then E. I understand that I can just VNC into E, but this question is a theoretical question. Part 2. Could I do a sub-looped daisy chain with VNCs? EG, A B C D C B E? Could that theoretically work, or would it screw up somewhere along the trail?

Whenever I configure a virtual host in the default folder, it works, however when I configure the virtual host in my home directory I get a "403 Forbidden" error. How do I configure a vhost in my home directory?   • ERROR 0x8007007A when trying to schedule a task

    I am getting the error "The data area passed to a system call is too small. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007A)" when trying to create a scheduled task on a particular windows machine. The problem description is identical to that described in this Microsoft KB article I followed their steps to resolve: Stopped the task scheduler service (right-clicked "Task Scheduler" in the Services window from Control Panel and selected "Stop"). Restarted the task scheduler service Waited 15 minutes tried to schedule the task. But the error is persisting. To give more context of how we are creating these scheduled tasks, they are actually generated automatically from a configuration script (we run the script each time we wish to make a change). Each time this happens, it deletes all of the existing tasks and creates new ones. I don't know what else to try.... but surely there is some way to "reset" the task scheduler... How can I stop this error from happening.

    My parents' pc has windows 7's boot manager installed at MBR and grub2 is installed on /dev/sda2 (booting linux on /dev/sda2). I want to make a bootable cd so that when booted from it just chainloads into the boot manager on the second partition. I assume using grub rather than grub2 for this will be simpler, using the configuration timeout=0 hiddenmenu default=0 title grub2 (/dev/sda2) rootnoverify (hd0,1) chainloader (hd0,1)+1 I know I can make a bootable linux cd in various ways, but that is not what I want. I just want to put grub/grub2 on the cd, no kernels or programs. The question is how do I make the iso file? I have found some references to installing on a floppy or usb disk, but all those assume the device is present when running the grub install commands. A iso file is different.

    Hello, I just bought an HTC Touch Pro2. I previously have used a MotoQ. On the Q, I managed to write XML code to change my color scheme (not just the bars, but the background color and font colors.) I cannot seem to find how to do this on the HTC. I will explain: I am legally blind and can only see my phone if the colors are reversed i.e. I need the background of all menus and such to be black and the font to be white. Can anyone help me?     Every time one plugs in the same usb wireless adapter in a new usb port, Windows creates new network device with auto-generated sequence number which looks like this Wireless-N USB Network Adapter #2, Wireless-N USB Network Adapter #3, ... The name of a device is being displayed as part of network's information in Control Panel|Network Connections. How can I get rid of this sequence number? I found out device name which is displayed in network's information is kept in the FriendlyName REG_SZ value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\USB\VID_[device specific string]\[usb port specific string] However when I try to modify this value I get error Cannot edit FriendlyName: Error writing the value's new contents. I tried to delete extra keys under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\USB\VID_13B1&PID_0029 but got Cannot delete KEY NAME: Error while deleting key. error. Trying to solve this problem I followed this answer but trying to change owner with Replace owner on subcontainers and objects option checked I got this error - Registry Editor could not set owner on the currently selected, or some of its subkeys. To find out which subkey is the source of problem I tried changing owner of each subkey. After successfully changing owner of Properites subkey I saw it has subkeys which were previously hidden. Now trying to change owner of these subkeys looks like this: Any idea how to delete these keys?

  • TTY Resolution in Xubuntu 9.10

    I've exhausted my ability to search through Google for this, so I'm giving it a go here. What I'm trying to do is increase the resolution (or decrease the font size) in the TTY terminals. Xubuntu 9.10 uses GRUB2, and everywhere I can find directs me to edit the /etc/default/grub File in order to add vga=XXX to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX value, and this simply doesn't work. Out of endless fiddling with the file, nothing ever seems to change. On my Netbook running an earlier version, I had success with this command dpkg-reconfigure console-setup But once again it yields no change. Got any ideas?

    I recently tried out a cheaper KVM solution, a dual monitor one with a USB hub and audio/mic support. It seemed the perfect KVM. However, these are my experiences. When using my keyboard via the PS/2 connection, none of my multimedia keys work (useful, because it has a volume control and my speakers do not, only on a wireless remote control.) I plugged the keyboard in via the USB port - and it seemed to work. However, I believe to switch the hub from PC to Mac, you need to use a keyboard combo, which is only supported when the keyboard is plugged in via PS/2 Sometimes the middle mouse button doesn't work when connected via PS/2. The multi monitor is VGA - I just found out by the looks of things my Mac Mini outputs DVI Digital only (though this is my fault!). Mac works with 2 screens, but switching and switching back can cause it not to display on the 2nd screen unless I go detect displays again. My question is - is there a KVM out there that supports these features? USB keyboard and mouse inputs will full multimedia keys support Dual monitor DVI connections Hotkey to change PCs and physical button USB hub Emulate screens attached when switching to a different computer Works with PC and Mac Audio / Microphone support Does one exist, that won't cost the world? So far the only one that seems to support all this (that I can tell) is this one. UPDATE I ended up buying the Aten CS1642. It's expensive, but it seems to work great!

    I have bitlocker running on Windows 7 (x86) on a Dell D630 laptop (it has a 1.2 TPM). It is running in transparent mode. I'd like to know how to configure it to use a PIN and a USB key as well, but I can't find anything that looks like it does this in the UI. Does anyone know how to do this? Do I have to remove bitlocker and re-enable it?? (This should be possible according to this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitLocker_Drive_Encryption)

  • New user profile creation error - Windows cannot open *.exe

    I have a windows 7 laptop with the user "mydomain\boy" that cannot log in to the laptop. the error message is something like "User profile service cannot log in the user boy". I then logged in with the domain admin account "mydomain\admin" and then went to delete the "mydomain\boy" from my computer system properties advance system settings user profiles settings. I also ensure that the user is deleted from control panel user accounts. I then also deleted the user folder c:\users\boy I also checked that the registry at this location HKLM\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\profilelist\ and ensure that there is no entry for boy. I followed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215 using the method 3 "fix it for me" but does not seem to do anything. (or i don't know how to use it). AFTER EVERYTHING DONE ABOVE... Everytime i log in with a new user, be it boy, girl or anything other domain account (other than the admin account already created when I first logged in to begin the fix/break), it takes a long time, and when the "preparing desktop" goes away, it starts to exe cannot open error e.g. regsvr.exe etc.. file association problem with exe QUESTION (phew finally..): Please tell me how to fix it?     I have a Sony HDR-XR200 HD camcorder. I'd like to see if I can use it as a webcam as well. It only has USB and HDMI outputs (no DV/firewire). Is there any way to make such a device function as a webcam on Windows Vista? Almost all camcorder-to-webcam software seems to work with DV inputs.
