• Dual Boot Windows 8 UEFI and Ubuntu 12.10

  I have got a new Samsung Series 7 laptop with Windows 8 where I tried to install Ubuntu. It is a 64-Bit system which uses UEFI and has "Secure Boot" switched on in the BIOS by default. After I switched if off (and set it to "UEFI and CSM OS") I was able to install Ubuntu (Ubuntu 11.10, which recognized Windows as Windows Vista, although it is Windows 8), by booting from CD with Settings/Change PC Settings/General/Advanced Startup in Windows 8. But after the installation and the restart of the machine somehow ignored Ubuntu and booted only Windows 8. Then I tried to reinstall Ubuntu 12.10. It still only boots Windows 8. Then I tried Boot Repair, which was not really helpful. Any ideas how I can create a dual boot system with Windows 8 and Ubuntu 12.10 ? • Spotlight on GlassFish 4.1: #6 Java API for WebSocket 1.1

  'Spotlight on GlassFish 4.1' is a series of posts that highlights specific enhancements of the upcoming GlassFish 4.1 release. It could be a new feature, a fix, a behavior change, a tip, etc. #6 Java API for WebSocket 1.1 JSR 356 (Java API for WebSocket) has recently passed the Maintenance Release ballot, this Maintenance Release fixes an important issue when Java SE 8 Lambdas are used (see here). GlassFish 4.1 will include an updated version of Tyrus (JSR 356 Reference Implementation) to bring the WebSocket API level to the latest version of the specification, i.e. WebSocket API for Java 1.1. It should be mentioned that the Tyrus version included in GlassFish 4.1 also brings additional features. • Can these game be fully coded in html5/javascript?

  I mean the mechanics of the game. Would it be possible? -Pokemon GBA series, rendering the world would be easy, but what about battle mechanics? -MapleStory, after seen dragonbound.net which is an identical copy of Gunbound I would think it's rather possible, but I'm still not sure if javascript can handle all the mechanics of the world. It would be heavy on resources I guess? I'm asking this because I'm really interested in html5 game develop(I really think in a future will destroy flash on game dev ground). I want to have an idea of how far games developed with the html5/javascript technology can go. I got especially inspired by dragonbound. I really think it pushes htmlt/javascript to the limits (game dev).

  Ever since I was a kid, I've wondered how they made the 20Q electronic game. In this game, which is it's on device, you think of an object, thing, or animal (e.g. a potato or a donkey), once you mentally choose your thing, the device goes through a series of questions such as: Is it larger than a loaf of bread? Is it found outdoors? Is it used for recreation? For each of the questions you can answer yes, no, maybe, or unknown. The way I've always thought of it to work was with immense, nested conditionals (if statements). But, I don't think that would be very likely as it would be terribly difficult to understand while coding it. I'm not looking for a discussion as SE doesn't allow it; I'm looking for concrete knowledge or solutions.

• Learning the basics

  I am a Linux server administrator first and foremost... Having said that, I have been asked by a former high school teacher of mine to teach students a bit about programming. Like any Linux administrator, I know my fair share of Python and Bash. The problem is that I know NOTHING about the lower level stuff like "machine code" and compilation. The main purpose of this series is to teach programming, not computer science, so I don't need a graduate degree's level of knowledge for this, they will be learning Python first and foremost. However, I would like to learn enough to at least broach the subject with them, any ideas where I can learn that kind of stuff relatively quickly?

• LightView: JavaFX 2 real-time visualizer for GlassFish

The tool provides monitoring information about threads and memory (such as heap size, thread count, peak thread count), transactions (commits and rollbacks), HTTP sessions, JDBC sessions, and even "paranormal activity". In a recently released first part of a tri-part article series at OTN, Adam explains how REST services can be exposed as bindable set of properties for JavaFX. • Architecture for html5 multiplayer game?

  Hello I want to write a HTML5 multiplayer game in which there are rooms with two players answering a series of questions with 3 possible answers, 10sec/question, which are being downloaded from a server. It will have some ratings and so on. I want to make it as scalable as possible. I wonder what technologies to use to accomplish that. HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript obviously. But what about the server-side? I have been researching and found that Socket.IO + Node.js + mongoDB would do the job but after doing some more research it maybe not. Can you suggest me some kind of architecture for doing this game? Free technologies, if possible. Or what to read and from where to start in order to understand how to do it. Thanx in advance! P.S. I have an experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, C#, ASP.NET MVC and relational db's.

• Trouble with 12.10 lag

  Well basicly lately I have been having lag problems with 12.10. I will post my specs, but before the update to 12.10, it said that I had intel graphics. Now it says I have Gallium.
