  • Using s/// in an expression

    I got a headache looking for this: How do you use s/// in an expression as opposed to an assignment. To clarify what I mean, I'm looking for a perl equivalent of python's re.sub(...) when used in the following context: newstring = re.sub('ab', 'cd', oldstring) The only way I know how to do this in perl so far is: $oldstring =~ s/ab/cd/; $newstring = $oldstring; Note the extra assignment.

I have it working for now, but was wondering if there was some way to change the default variable delimiter ($) in Freemarker? Or is there a different Java template engine that would use a variable delimiter more suitable for generating a Perl script?

  • Is there some way to make variables like $a and $b in regard to strict?

    In light of Michael Carman's comment, I have decided to rewrite the question. Note that 11 comments appear before this edit, and give credence to Michael's observation that I did not write the question in a way that made it clear what I was asking. Question: What is the standard--or cleanest way--to fake the special status that $a and $b have in regard to strict by simply importing a module? First of all some setup. The following works: #!/bin/perl use strict; print "\$a=$a\n"; print "\$b=$b\n"; If I add one more line: print "\$c=$c\n"; I get an error at compile time, which means that none of my dazzling print code gets to run. If I comment out use strict; it runs fine. Outside of strictures, $a and $b are mainly special in that sort passes the two values to be compared with those names. my @reverse_order = sort { $b <=> $a } @unsorted; Thus the main functional difference about $a and $b--even though Perl "knows their names"--is that you'd better know this when you sort, or use some of the functions in List::Util. It's only when you use strict, that $a and $b become special variables in a whole new way. They are the only variables that strict will pass over without complaining that they are not declared. : Now, I like strict, but it strikes me that if TIMTOWTDI (There is more than one way to do it) is Rule #1 in Perl, this is not very TIMTOWDI. It says that $a and $b are special and that's it. If you want to use variables you don't have to declare $a and $b are your guys. If you want to have three variables by adding $c, suddenly there's a whole other way to do it. Nevermind that in manipulating hashes $k and $v might make more sense: my %starts_upper_1_to_25 = skim { $k =~ m/^\p{IsUpper}/ && ( 1 <= $v && $v <= 25 ) } %my_hash ;` Now, I use and I like strict. But I just want $k and $v to be visible to skim for the most compact syntax. And I'd like it to be visible simply by use Hash::Helper qw<skim>; I'm not asking this question to know how to black-magic it. My "answer" below, should let you know that I know enough Perl to be dangerous. I'm asking if there is a way to make strict accept other variables, or what is the cleanest solution. The answer could well be no. If that's the case, it simply does not seem very TIMTOWTDI.

When I open the same page in a browser everything looks fine including the source code. How is it possible to encrypt a page for a script and not for a browser? My Perl script sends the same headers as my browser (Google Chrome).

    I need to take a file and find the first occurrence of a literal string pattern as a complete line of the file: Acknowledgments: And then I wish to create a new file from the line of match all the way to the end of the file. I expect perl is a good way to do this, but I'm not much of a perl person, alternatively maybe sed is a good way? Please suggest a simple way to reliably accomplish this in Unix.

  • How do I delete the first line in a file?

    I can't search for a particular string, since they're all very similar, but I'd like something simple to chop out the first 4 lines in a file. They're all variable length too. I've had a a think about perl, and it all seems harder than I thought, but I'd like to do it in Perl, AWK or a shell command if possible. Does anybody have a simple way of doing this?

  • Log4Perl - how to set exit code if any WARN, ERROR, or FATAL messages?

    Hi - I've been using Log4Perl extensively in a number of scripts. I'd like to augment those scripts to set an error code if any WARN or ERROR messages have been logged. I couldn't find any obvious way to do this based on existing documentation. I'd like to avoid a brute-force rewrite of my existing scripts to add a check on every WARN or ERROR log message; I'd prefer to handle it prior to script exit if possible like this pseudocode: if $log->has_warnings_or_errors then exit 1 else exit 0 Is there any easy way to call Log4Perl to determine if the current logger has issues messages of certain levels? Thanks.

  • Where do I find scripts generated by SharePoint MCMS Migration Profiles

    I am attempting to migrate data from an Microsoft Content Management Server (MCMS) 2002 instance into a new Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server (MOSS) 2007 installation using the Manage Microsoft Content Management Server Migration Profiles tool in the Operations space of MOSS Central Administration. When analyzing the profile, I receive 4 warnings, all of which may be safely ignored, but when I actually execute the migration profile, I get the same warnings and an additional error with a description of: Line 6: Incorrect syntax near ';'. I have seen this error numerous times when mucking about in SQL Server and recognize it as a Transact SQL error message, but can't find the actual SQL statement that is being executed so that I may determine the source of the error. EDIT: After enabling verbose logging on the MCMS 2002 Migration category, and poring through the Unified Logging Service (ULS) logs, I received a more complete stack trace at the point of the error, and a couple more anomalies listed below.     I'm planning on setting up a server using ubuntu lucid lynx, which uses upstart.I'm not finding the docs too intuitive, so i'd like to ask a solution for my specific problem. I'm currently using a script to start up my IPV6 tunnel with free6/gogo6 - right now its a simple script invoking a single command, and its configuration file #! /bin/sh /usr/local/gw6c/bin/gw6c -f /usr/local/gw6c/bin/gw6c.conf Of course, when this goes down, it tends to be silent, and so i'd need to get in and restart it I'd like to set up an upstart script which will start this app on startup, functionally identical to the script i have restart this script as 'root' should the app fail enable me to restart the tunnel should anything go wrong.

  • Confluence or apache on win server 2008 cant find scripts and images :(

    I am a newbie to both Tomcat and Apache. I have set the virtual hosts as described in Here. And JIRA works fine when i browse the URL jira.agmlab.com. However when i try to access Confluence(3.4.5) with confluence.agmlab.com the pages come in plain html, i can login and browse pages but there is no css or js so that my confluence pages look very ugly. what can possibly cause this and how to fix this? here is my virtual hosts definitions : # # Virtual Hosts # # If you want to maintain multiple domains/hostnames on your # machine you can setup VirtualHost containers for them. Can it be something related with the permissions defined in Win Server 2008 ? maybe there is not enough rights (such as read execute ) in some users, directories ??

    I'm trying to make a custom Ubuntu Server iso file. Kickstart file (ks.cfg) runs smooth when there is no %post in the file and Ubuntu installs correctly with ks configuration. Installation finishes installing base, apt, grub and It echos: Kickseed Running... and it freezes @ 0% I thought may be apt-get update doesnt work in ks file, I tried to install other apps like apache2 but no luck I have created dozen iso images and installed them in Virtual Box.I have been googling for 3 days and checked out ubuntu forums but haven't figured out the issue.     Okay... Not sure how "out there" this thought is... Right now to send a pager message (aka text message), a user logs into our AS400... logs into the program... enters user name and message and hit's F10 to send. With a little looking, it seems that you can run remote commands to the AS400 via FTP. So I'm working on building a script (batch or otherwise) that, given two parameters (user, message), will FTP into the AS400 and run a remote command: c:\>ftp server user: admin password: ***** ftp> quote rcmd SNDPGRMSG TOPGR(JDOE) MSG('This is a Test') ftp> quit So... what I want to do is setup an email account on our Exchange server Monitor the account for incoming mail upon receipt of incoming mail, parse it... say for example subject is defined as "Recipient" and email text is defined as "Pager message" run a batch that uses the above mentioned TOPGR and MSG as parameters... via FTP to the AS400 mark email as "read" The main thing I'm not sure about is monitoring an exchange account and running a script on incoming emails. I'm sure what I want to do is possible... but where would I start? EDIT: Clarification The main reasons for using this four part system are logging (messages sent via this are logged and reported by the AS400 program) and the existing scheduler for redirecting pages (For example, the weekly on-call person = TOPGR(oncall) gets updated by the AS400 program). I'm also trying to remove duplicate work. If I can get this setup working, I can redirect pages from OTHER systems into this one. I then don't have to update 2, soon to be 3, systems with current phone numbers, carriers, on-call schedules, etc. System #2 and #3 can just "email" [email protected].

I have a problem though, in this tutorial creating a project is explained by running the command django-admin.py startproject mysite My issue is that this doesn't work. I changed to the directory where django-admin.py is located and ran the command chmod +x django-admin.py with no results. I tried adding the directory with the file to my path without results. I ended up fixing my problem with this command python /location/of/django-admin.py startproject mysite which yielded the outcome I expected. My problem is: What do I need to change/configure such that command django-admin.py startproject mysite would be sufficient? I'm not really a perl user beyond enjoying it for massive directory-recursive find/replace operations within text files, so I haven't much of an idea what the permissions here are supposed to look like, and I'm not really sure how to go about determining how macports has gone and installed perl this way when it's otherwise worked without failure for years now. Does anyone have any recommendations for the sanest path towards rectifying this issue? Also, is there any interesting reason as to why the macports default for the perl5 port installs 5.12.4, and not 5.16.0, which has to be explicitly installed via the perl5.16 port? Thanks again!
