I'm processing huge data files (millions of lines each). Before I start processing I'd like to get a count of the number of lines in the file, so I can then indicate how far along the processing is. I am using Ruby, and because of the size of the files, it would not be practical to read the entire file into memory just to count how many lines there are. Does anyone have a good suggestion on how to do this?

Is there a way to set the next build number in Hudson from a script?
I have the nextBuildNumber plug-in installed, and attempted to use wget with --post-data, but that page appears to require login.
I have two steps of a chained build and I want to keep the build numbers in sync.
I want my jqGrid to shrink and expand based on the number of rows it has. Let say it currently has 10 rows, the height of the jqGrid will shrink to 10 rows (so that no gaping empty rows is exposed).
If however there are too many rows, the height of the grid will expand to a maximum 'height' value and a scroll bar will appear.
int randomNumber = (double)rand() / (RAND_MAX + 1) * (10 - 0) + 0;
is the code I'm using, it is getting a random number, but is getting the SAME random combination every time?
Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong?
Hello everyone,
How can I get the file name and line number in python script.
Exactly the file information we get from an exception traceback. In this case without raising an exception.

I'm have build an up php script to host large number of images upload by user, what is the best way to generate random numbers to image filenames so that in future there would be no filename conflict? Be it like Imageshack. Thanks.
The problem is how to invert alternate bits of a number, starting from the LSB. Currently what I am doing is first doing a
count = -1
while n:
n >>= 1
count += 1
to first find the position of the leftmost set bit, then running a loop to invert every alternate bit:
i = 0
while i <= count:
num ^= 1<<i
i += 2
Is there a quick hack solution instead of this rather boring loop solution? Of course, the solution can't make any asumption about the size of the integer.
Hey. How can I get a total number of rows in a file (do not want to do it with loop). I'm reading CSV file.
Example 1
CSV.open('clients.csv', 'r')
Example 2
FasterCSV.foreach('clients.csv')
Thx.
I need a way to convert a number into formatted way by inserting comma at suitable places. Can it be done using regex?
Example:
12345 => 12,345
1234567 =>1,234,567
This is the code I have so far
d = {}
counter = 0
for lines in words:
counter += 1
for word in text1:
if word not in words:
d[word] = [counter]
else:
d[word].append(counter)
print(word, d[counter])
words = my text file
text1 is my misspelled words
But this gives me an error. What I want to do is print the word and the line number e.g.
togeher 5 7
I think I remember reading that that has to do with telling the browser not to cache it or something. How does this impact browser caching and application performance in production? When does that number change?

I'm trying to implement printing a range of pages in c#
While printing, the .net framework throws up a message box that says "Page # of document". This starts at 1, and counts up to the number of pages printed.
If I'm printing pages 10-11, I want that count to start at 10, not 1. Is there a way to set the starting value? The logical thing would be if it started at PrinterSettings.FromPage, but it ignores that value.
I'm a front end guy (HTML/CSS) so please excuse this basic question. I just need to know what code in PHP I can use to number some text.

Kind of like what <ol> does in html but in PHP.
I have HTML that I need to extract a part number from, the HTML looks like:
javascript:selectItem('ABC123 1', '.....
I need to get the ABC123 from the above.
My code snippet:
Patterp p = Pattern.Compile("?????");
Matcher m = p.matcher(html);
if(m.find())
partNumber = m.group(1).trim();
BTW, in the pattern, how do I escape for the character (
I now for quotes I do \"

I have a number 9877342931235. Using Haskell, I need to show it as:
987-734293-123-5
i've tried interspersing the list but of course that puts '-' between every digit. How would I do it to yield the actual result?
Hay i need help.
I want to find all muliples of a number in PHP.
I'm using something like this
if($count != 20 )
to work out if $count is not equal to 20.
but i also need this script to check if $count is not equal to 20,40,60,80,100,120,140,160 etc.
Any ideas? I think i need to use the modulus symbol (%), but i don't know.

Is there a maximum number of inodes in a single directory?
I have a directory of 2 million+ files and can't get an the ls command to work against that directory. So now I'm wondering if I've exceeded a limit on inodes in Linux. Is there a limit before a 2^64 numerical limit?
