I"m unsure about this. Would having PHP ( or I guess any template language like Django's or Mako or whatever ) inside an html file prevent me from making changes to it with XPath?
I'm very new to XPath. I would think that you could not, but as I said, I'm unsure.
Why is there no plugin detection tecnique (like navigator.plugins) in PHP? Why it is not implemented? It would be great! Any thoughts on how to do it?
Edit: Like in $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']
I have problem right now, i have using gettext in my PHP code, but i have a big problem, all my Javascript file's its now transelatete, can sombarby tell my a easy way to make defriend lang translate in Javascript?
tanks a lot all.
I've got to convert a not terribly complicated bespoke project management system from MsAccess Application to PHP/MySQL. I've been programming for donkey's years but embarrassingly know practically nothing about modern methodologies.
So the old 'learning curve' versus 'improved efficiency' conundrum rears its ugly head once again.
Although I've Googled up some stuff I don't want to prejudice your suggestions, where would you start, I'm at your mercy?
For example I use Netbeans for PHP and have started to integrate PHPUnit & XDebug as part of my normal setup. What other plugins/modifications to Netbeans default setup can be more productive and useful.
Thank You
First of all I don't know if it this question belongs here if not please tell me.
I've recently evolved from freelancer to a small .net/php development shop and we're trying to figure out what the best tools for team development will be (code repository, continuos integration server, automated testing, etc.).
Do you have some recommendations, preferible open source or low cost since we are starting out. (We already have visual studio for all the team members).
Thanks
By textbook based i mean the author asks the reader questions/mini projects after every section/chapter of the book. And the book includes background info on php 5, like what kind of language, its use, syntax/semantix/structure etc. Any suggestions?
I've been using CakaPHP and Kohanaphp but now I want to try out other frameworks from a more sophisticated OOP language for my next projects.
How can I learn the following frameworks quickly so I can immediately pick what to use:
Pylons
Sinatra
Ramaze
Tutorials and examples from online resources would really be great.
For php developers who've already underwent this learning experience, please share yours.
Thanks
I've been reading about these and they're pretty prominent in the .NET world. Why aren't there any web frameworks that implement any of these patterns in Ruby, Python, or PHP? Is it because it only works with component-based frameworks, like ASP.NET? Or are they just slow to adopt it?
Hello!
I have a PHP-variable called $go_Adress which contains the adress I need to get a map and a street view from. How do I do that? I have created an api-key but else I don't know how to do it!
Hope you can help.
Hello,
I have been working with java and python, so I found a nice web host which has support for these.
But my question is, why can you find so hard such hosts?
I understand that php is easy, I also understand that oracle host is hard to find ($$$ of course), but what do they have against some good open-source, completely free java spring, jsp, django, python, ror, perl etc etc ....
So rare to find hosts ... not to mention freelancer bids
Thank you.
I am getting very strange results in terms of timezones. I am currently using Wordpress and everytime I register a new user, I see the wrong datetime in the database.
Ok so I am suspecting it is picking up the server time. So then I then set in php.ini to have date.timezone = "America/Los_Angeles" but again the time is still not correct in the database...And yes I have also set the timezone in Wordpress correctly.
So how can this be done?
Been Googling around without finding much at all, so does anyone know of a class or library that helps you parse any sort of language, like a Domain Specific Language (I'm creating one, so I'm flexible in what the syntax and format can be) into either PHP code or some helpful struct or a class hiearchy or ... ? Anything goes at this point. :)
I want to experiment with parsing text files into tokens, building up a small grammar and syntax library to express things like Business Natural Languages.
Python needs a framework, so does Java (for the web). I don't know much about Ruby or Coldfusion. But is there another language out there for the web that can stand alone as it is without a need for a framework or without strict adherence to a design pattern (MVC and the likes) aside from PHP? BTW, the statement that Python and Java needs a framework to work with the web came purely from my readings on articles and books; I might be mistaken.

What advantages has event-based PHP frameworks? Is this way of programming more effectively compared to imperative programming?
What experiences do you have with there frameworks?

I've been working far too long with php and getting bored with it. I also want to learn a new language. I've been using Ruby and like it. I've to decide between Rails and Sinatra, which one would you recommend? Is it true that Sinatra can't be used to build complex apps, and its only for simple apps?
I am using facebook like in my site, and my php script need to know how many people like every page. For example I want to use echo $likes; where $likes is a number of likes. Is it possible to do?
hi,
I use phptemplate_node_form in template.php to edit my back-end node pages

So I've enabled PHP on my Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), and it's working great so long as:
1) I place the file in the ~/Sites directory
2) I use the http://localhost/~user/example.php URL instead of the file:///Users/user/Sites/example.php
I presume this is because unless both of those conditions are true, Apache is not involved, and thus neither is PHP. So is there any way to remove either of those conditions? (Well, really the latter, because the first is a symptom of the second)
system info: i have installed XAMPP on my machine having Window XP OS .
also installed Apache2.2,
now, i have created two folders in C:\xampp\htdocs they are php and perl .
these folder contains programs in their respective languages (ie index.php and index.pl respectively)
when i type in browser : http: //localhost:88/php/ the program in index.php gets executed and o/p is displayed in browser
but , when i type: http://localhost:88/perl/ browser displays a blank page
PROBLEM : how to run .pl file in above scenario ?
