  Hello, Can anyone tell me what is the difference between SSL_CTX_set_cert_verify_callback and SSL_CTX_set_verify? From OpenSSL docs: SSL_CTX_set_cert_verify_callback() sets the verification callback function for ctx. SSL objects that are created from ctx inherit the setting valid at the time when SSL_new(3) is called. and: SSL_CTX_set_verify() sets the verification flags for ctx to be mode and specifies the verify_callback function to be used. If no callback function shall be specified, the NULL pointer can be used for verify_callback. So I'm trying to understand which callback to send for each one (from client side). Thanks experts.

• Training new employees on undocumented code

  Our company has a large codebase (2500+ classes/interfaces in just the core alone, many more in other projects) for our flagship software product. We've never really hired more than one developer at a time, so we don't have a real training process. We're going to be bringing in 2-5 more developers now, and probably more in the near future (to put things into perspective, we have 7 right now.) Obviously, we would like to get these guys up to speed as soon as possible. The catch - almost all of our classes (95%+) are completely undocumented. No javadoc, no design docs, basically completely undocumented. What strategies can we employ to bring the new developers up to speed? I'd like to consider situations that include the existing code getting documented, but it's possible management won't allow for the time to get that done, so I also must consider situations where that won't happen. Has anyone been there before? What worked well for you? Thanks!

• Facebook Scrumptious sample app won't build

  I did exactly what they do in the video. However, when I get to the scrumptious app and try to build/run it, mine fails. It says: "Parse Issue. Expected a type." Here are the two lines that it thinks are broken (located in the ACAccountStore.h): // Returns the account type object matching the account type identifier. See // ACAccountType.h for well known account type identifiers - (ACAccountType *)accountTypeWithAccountTypeIdentifier:(NSString *)typeIdentifier; // Returns the accounts matching a given account type. - (NSArray *)accountsWithAccountType:(ACAccountType *)accountType; Here is a link to the tutorial. • scanf formatting issue

  I have a log file with the following format: INFO 2011-03-09 10:26:15,270 [user] message I want to parse the log file using PHP: // assume file exists and all that $handle = fopen("log_file.txt", "r"); while ($line_data = fscanf($handle, "%s %s %s [%s] %s\n")) { var_dump($line_data); } fclose($handle); When I run this code I get: [0]=> array(5) { [0]=> string(4) "INFO" [1]=> string(10) "2011-03-09" [2]=> string(12) "10:26:15,270" [3]=> string(5) "user]" [4]=> NULL } // snip It appears the closing bracket in the format string ("%s %s %s [%s] %s") is disrupting the rest of the line from getting parsed. I checked the PHP docs for scanf (as suggested by fscanf), and I didn't see anything mentioning having to escape a left bracket. Any suggestions on how to get the 4th and 5th elements to look like "user" and "message" respectively?

• iPhone keyboard, Done button and resignFirstResponder

  This is probably a dumb question, but I can't find the answer in the docs. Did the "Done" button on the pop-up keyboard always cause the keyboard to disappear? I see a lot of code around the web like this: - (BOOL)textFieldShouldReturn:(UITextField *)theTextField { [theTextField resignFirstResponder]; return YES; } When I press the "Done" button, the keyboard pops down and the UITextField resigns first responder. I'm presuming that pressing the "Done" button didn't used to cause a UITextField to resignFirstResponder, but that behavior changed at some time. I'm debugging on OS 3.0 - 3.1.3

Not creating the class I think I am? Not passing it the type I think I am?

• Geeting internal Oracle connection from Hibernate in JBoss

  Hello, I need to set an application context through Hibernate. I found there is a method setApplicationContext on oracle.jdbc.internal.OracleConnection. I wrote a test, in which I was getting the Oracle connection from the Hibernate session and it worked fine. However, when I moved the code to my application running under JBoss where connections are obtained from the pool the solution won't work. The error is: $Proxy51 cannot be cast to oracle.jdbc.internal.OracleConnection. (1) How can I get the internal connection in that environment? (2) Is there a better way to set an application context through Hibernate (docs don't say anything about it). Thanks so much. Kris

• Column.DbType affecting runtime behavior

  Hi According to the MSDN docs, the DbType property/attribute of a Column type/element is only used for database creation. Yet, today, when trying to submit data to an IMAGE column on a SQLCE database (not sure if only on CE), I got an exception of 'Data truncated to 8000 bytes'. This was due to the DbType still being defined as VARBINARY(MAX) which SQLCE does not support. Changing the type to IMAGE in the DbType fixes the issue. So what other surprises does Linq2SQL attributes hold in store? Is this a bug or intended? Should I report it to MS? UPDATE After getting the answer from Guffa, I tested it, but it seems for NVARCHAR(10) adding a 11 char length string causes a SQL exception, and not Linq2SQL one. The data was truncated while converting from one data type to another. • JsonStore.insert() causes exception in extjs

  I have an EditorGridPanel with toolbar button to add new records. Everything works fine except one scenario. When I try to insert a record which already exists in database, server sends back: {"success":false,"message":"already exists","data":{}} but grid creates a new row marked with red triangle. If after that I try to insert a new record (even if it doesn't exist in database), everything works fine on the server side, but i get an 'uncaught exception' in firebug. It says: 'uncaught exception: Ext.data.DataReader: #realize was called with invalid remote-data. Please see the docs for DataReader#realize and review your DataReader configuration.' why is that?

• How do I make an About window the front-most window in a Cocoa application with no UI?

  I'm building a Cocoa application that runs as an item in the status bar. This application has an About window and an item to activate that about window, using the standard Cocoa mechanism for doing so (-[NSApplication orderFrontStandardAboutPanel:]). Naturally this is all hooked up automagically. It works great except for one thing: unlike most About windows, it shows up underneath all other windows, rather than on top. I believe this is because the application does not have a UI, so all its windows are automatically beneath other windows. Is there a way I can hook into the NSApplication mechanism for displaying the About window so I can send it to the front? I've poked around in the docs for NSApplication, but there's no way to get a reference to the About window that I can see so that I can make it appear on top.

  After much experimenting and googling, the following Python code successfully calls Google's Search APi - but only returns 4 results: after reading the Google Search API docs, I thought the 'start=' would return additional results: but this not happen. • Is there a way to attach Ruby Net::HTTP request to a specific IP address / network interface?

  Hello, Im looking a way to use different IP addresses for each GET request with standard Net::HTTP library. Server has 5 ip addresses and assuming that some API`s are blocking access when request limit per IP is reached. So, only way to do it - use another server. I cant find anything about it in ruby docs. For example, curl allows you to attach it to specific ip address (in PHP): $req = curl_init($url) curl_setopt($req, CURLOPT_INTERFACE, 'ip.address.goes.here'; $result = curl_exec($req); Is there any way to do it with Net::HTTP library? As alternative - CURB (ruby curl binding). But it will be the latest thing i`ll try. Suggestions / Ideas?

  I have a long running function that should be inserting new rows. How do I check the progress of this function? I was thinking dirty reads would work so I read http://www.postgresql.org/docs/8.4/interactive/sql-set-transaction.html and came up with the following code and ran it in a new session: SET SESSION CHARACTERISTICS AS SERIALIZABLE; SELECT * FROM MyTable; Postgres gives me a syntax error. What am I doing wrong? If I do it right, will I see the inserted records while that long function is still running? Thanks

• Drawing rubber band line during user drag

  In my iPhone app, I would like the user to be able to "connect" two of my views by: 1) starting a drag in View A 2) as they drag towards View B, a straight line with one end in View A and the other end under at the current drag point, animates in a rubber-band fashion 3) when/if they release in View B, the line is then shown between the two views I've seen examples of dragging and dropping views, and other examples of animations, but I haven't seen one that is a simple example of this kind of user-directed animation. Any pointers towards examples or the specific docs I should be looking at would be appreciated. If this turns out to be trivial - my apologies. Although I've done quite a bit of development, I'm just getting started in the iPhone SDK and Core Graphics.

  My project deals with both Web app and Mobile app. So before we can use Linkedin API's into our project we need to register our app with Linkedin according to this Quick Start. But for my situation where i use Linkedin API's for both web and mobile, Do i need to register two application with Linkedin. Or is there any other way to register a single application and use the same for both web and mobile? In the registration page i don't see any distinction for Web and Mobile, unlike facebook where a single application registered can be used for both web and mobile app. If anyone could point me to appropriate docs or pointers, it would be really helpful. • How do I make a project in Django? Beginner

  Okay I just started with Django and it's totally different from PHP. I installed Python 2.6 and Django. Both are located in my C drive. C: Django build django docs Python26 I am doing the django site tutorial and when they say to write django-admin.py startproject mysite from my Python command line, I keep getting: Syntax error: invalid syntax >>>django-admin.py startproject mysite FILE "<stdin>", line 1 django-admin.py startproject mysite ^ My django-admin.py is in the django/bin folder. I installed Python via python setup.py. Am I suppose to use my window's CP? When I do that, I get window's can't open a .py file. I thought I was just creating a folder? How do I create a project with django? Thanks :)

• Does iOS 4 Have "Real" Multitasking?

  Ever since the first beta came out I've been trying to find out if "real" multitasking is possible. I.E., can you put a program in the background and have it hang on to a network connection indefinitely? I'm thinking about IM or IRC apps, for example. I've compiled an app myself on OS 4, and without changing a thing it appeared to stay running in the background, but for all I know it was just suspended to memory. The docs say the best you can do is request up to 10 minutes, but in the developer presentation they showed off Skype sitting in the background and then notifying the user that a call was coming in. Does anyone know for sure how this is all going to work?

• Checking JRE version inside browser

  Basically, I'm wanting to figure out the best way to check the user's JRE version on a web page. I have a link to a JNLP file that I only want to display if the user's JRE version is 1.6 or greater. I've been playing around with the deployJava JavaScript code (http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/deployment_advice.html) and have gotten it to work in every browser but Safari (by using deployJava.versionCheck). For whatever reason, Safari doesn't give the most updated JRE version number - I found this out by displaying the value of the getJREs() function. I have 1.6.0_20 installed, which is displayed in every other browser, but Safari keeps saying that only 1.5.0 is currently installed. I've also tried using the createWebStartLaunchButtonEx() function and specifying '1.6.0' as the minimum version, but when I click the button nothing happens (in any browser). Any suggestions?

This is an optional list of reader-names allowed to read the document. When a reader list is used, protected documents are only viewable by listed users." • PHP readdir() not returning files in alphabetical order

  I am reading through a directory with some pictures and such using a pretty simple implementation of readdir() like the following: if ($handle = opendir($path)) { while (false !== ($szFilename = readdir($handle))) { if ($szFilename[0] !== '.') { if (is_file($path.$szFilename)) { // do stuff } } } } The problem that I am having is that the files are not being read in alphabetical order as the docs for readdir() state: Returns the filename of the next file from the directory. The filenames are returned in the order in which they are stored by the filesystem. Another weird thing is that, on the local testing server, the same code works great. This is running on a server using the LAMP stack in both cases. I know that I can build an array and just sort it, but I was wondering if I was missing something in what I was doing. Can I have the picture URL from the openid proccess? with OAuth I cant'seem to find the right scope to retrieve this information... See this link: http://code.google.com/apis/gdata/docs/directory.html there is a list of scopes that you can fetch with REST api to google and I didnt't see the one related to the profile. Btw, I am using PHP and the openid is already working, but didn't start with the oauth untill I know if I can(and need) retrieve the picture (because email and name already comes within the openid proccess) thanks, Joe

• Is it better to use GL_FIXED or GL_FLOAT on Android.

  I would have assumed that GL_FIXED was faster, but the iPhone docs actually say to use GL_FLOAT because GL_FIXED has to be converted to GL_FLOAT. Is it the same on Android? I suppose it varies by phone, but what about recent popular ones (Nexus One, Droid/Milestone, etc.)? Bonus points: This appears to be completely undocumented (e.g. search google for GL_FIXED!) but where is the 'point' in GL_FIXED? I.e. how much is (GL_FIXED)1 worth?

• Prevent ASP.NET from encoding strings on output

  How can I stop ASP.Net from encoding anchor tags in List Items when the page renders? I have a collection of objects. Each object has a link property. I did a foreach and tried to output the links in a BulletedList, but ASP encoded all the links. Any idea? Thanks! Here's the offending snippet of code.
