  • iPhone OpenGL ES

    - by Chaoz
Hello, Since I'm not familiar with iPhone development I'd like to know whether it is possible to use OpenGL ES1.0 on the iPhone 3gs rather than 2.0. I'd like to share a code base across different mobile platforms and not having to deal with the programmable pipeline from OGLES 2.0 could speed up an initial build. Thanks

  • Memory randomization as application security enhancement?

    - by Paul Sasik
I recently came upon a Microsoft article that touted new "defensive enhancements" of Windows 7. Specifically: Address space layout randomization (ASLR) Heap randomization Stack randomization The article went on to say that "...some of these defenses are in the core operating system, and the Microsoft Visual C++ compiler offers others" but didn't explain how these strategies would actually increase security. Anyone know why memory randomization increases security, if at all? Do other platforms and compilers employ similar strategies?

  • How do I make Subversion (SVN) send email on checkins?

    - by Joe Ludwig
I've always found checkin mails to be very useful for keeping track of what work other people are doing in the codebase. How do I set up SVN to email a distribution list on each checkin? Edit: I'm running clients on Windows and the server on Linux. The answers below for various platforms will likely be useful to other people though.

  • How does Dropbox use Python on Windows and OS X?

    - by robotshapes
In Windows the Dropbox client uses python25.dll and the MS C runtime libraries (msvcp71.dll, etc). On OS X the Python code is compiled bytecode (pyc). My guess is they are using a common library they have written then just have to use different hooks for the different platforms. What method of development is this? It clearly isn't IronPython or PyObjC. This paradigm is so appealing to me, but my CS foo and Google foo are failing me.

  • Cross-platform editing for LaTeX documents?

    - by pufferfish
What solutions are there for working on a LaTeX document on both Windows and Linux? It's a large document, and I will be working daily on both platforms so compatibility is essential if it's two different pieces of software. Bonus points for a solution that includes easy previewing.

  • Which TextEditor is easiest to customize for a new scripting language?

    - by Simone Margaritelli
It's been more than an year that i'm developing a new scripting language with its own grammar rules and constructs. I'd like to give the users of this language some minimalistic ide to work with, but i don't want/have time to make one from scratch so i'd like to take one already existing (it has to run on Linux platforms natively, so no windows-only editors plz) and customize it. Well, which one is the easiest to customize without changing the source code and recompiling it, maybe even with plugin support? Thank you.

  • How can you track mouse input using the fewest libraries in c.

    - by TimE
I'm not sure where to look to find this information, but I'd like to know how to get mouse input (or any hid input) using the fewest non standard libraries in c. Basically, is there an stdio equivalent for mouse (and other input) input in c? Or is there a library that is minimal and cross compatible on multiple platforms. Just being able to print mouse coordinates to a terminal window would be enough.

Any ideas will be appreciated!

  • Rhomobile vs. Phonegap considerations

    - by NewB
I'm debating between Phonegap and RhoMobile for cross platform mobile application development. I'm a web developer with experience in Ruby as well as the traditional web technologies (HTML, CSS, and Javascript). The backend of this application will be accessed via a web browser and built with Rails. What are my chief concerns when choosing between these platforms? Which would you recommend I go with and WHY? Thank you
