• Codeigniter: how do I select count when `$query->num_rows()` doesn't work for me?

- by mOrloff
I have a query which is returning a sum, so naturally it returns one row. I need to count the number of records in the DB which made that sum. Here's a sample of the type of query I am talking about (MySQL): SELECT i.id, i.vendor_quote_id, i.product_id_requested, SUM(i.quantity_on_hand) AS qty, COUNT(i.quantity_on_hand) AS count FROM vendor_quote_item AS i JOIN vendor_quote_container AS c ON i.vendor_quote_id = c.id LEFT JOIN company_types ON company_types.company_id = c.company_id WHERE company_types.company_type = 'f' AND i.product_id_requested = 12345678 I have found and am now using the select_min(), select_max(), and select_sum() functions, but my COUNT() is still hard-coded in. The main problem is that I am having to specify the table name in a tightly coupled manner with something like $this->$db->select( 'COUNT(myDbPrefix_vendor_quote_item.quantity_on_hand) AS count' ) which kills portability and makes switching environments a PIA. How can/should I get my the count values I am after with CI in an uncoupled way??

• Error when selecting content from ADDTIME(CURTIME(), '14400 hour') format

- by Blahwhore
So apparently i've stumbled upon a coding error when trying to select the time from my database. SELECT * FROM `videos` WHERE `added_time` > AddTime( CurTime(), '14400 hour' ) is the code, i'm trying to select all the videos posted 10 days (14400 hours) ago using the "added_time" format, because it worked for my previous coding but in this one it work work. Shown below is a link to the image showing how my database structure for videos are shown. http://i.imm.io/NURT.png Edit: Previously i had this problem for retrieving and deleting bulletins posted 10 days ago, and this code worked, however this code apparently won't work when trying to retrieve the videos :/ I don't know why, they're using the same format. See: http://i.imm.io/NUSW.png

• Should I use "return;" after a header()?

- by Scarface
Quick question, I noticed that on some of my header directors I was getting some lag while the header processed. Is using return standard after using headers? Also if you use a header on pages you don't want directly accessed, such as processing pages will return; stop that processing even if the page is not directly accessed? IF return is a good idea would it be better to use exit()?

• sprintf and % signs in text

- by Cameron Conner
A problem I recently ran into was that when trying to update a field in my database using this code would not work. I traced it back to having a % sign in the text being updated ($note, then $note_escaped)... Inserting it with sprintf worked fine though. Should I not be using sprintf for updates, or should it be formed differently? I did some searching but couldn't come up with anything. $id = mysql_real_escape_string($id); $note_escaped = mysql_real_escape_string($note); $editedby = mysql_real_escape_string($author); $editdate = mysql_real_escape_string($date); //insert info from form into database $query= sprintf("UPDATE notes_$suffix SET note='$note_escaped', editedby='$editedby', editdate='$editdate' WHERE id='$id' LIMIT 1"); Thanks much!

• Decoding with html_entity_decode, and then having problem with

- by AleGore
After decoding the special character with the html_entity_decode function, I get spaces in replace of entities. My problem is when I check if if ($decoded_str[5] == ' ') it isn't true, though in $decoded_str[5] there is a space that was before decoding. How to settle the matter? I need to be able to check it like this way: if ($decoded_str[5] == ' ')

• /scripts/easyapache broke PHP and now outputs binary

- by James Lawrie
I ran /scripts/easyapache on one of my cpanel servers last night and since then PHP just gives 501 errors, which no logs I can find. I tried running it again and it's running as normal but all output has been replaced with strange characters, eg: ????+?+± °?? ?-?.?... =?? ????+?+± °?? ¦+?+?.?... =?? ????+?+± °?? ?=?/¦+?+?.?... +? ????+?+± °?? ?=?/??++.?... =?? ????+?+± °?? ??++.?... =?? ????+?+± °?? ???+?+.?... +? ????+?+± °?? ?=?/????¦???.?... =?? ????+?+± °?? +??±?+.?... =?? ????+?+± °?? +??¦+?.?... =?? Has anyone come across this before? Is it fixable?

• Convert HTACCESS mod_rewrite directives to nginx format?

- by Chris
I'm brand new to nginx and I am trying to convert the app I wrote over from Apache as I need the ability to serve a lot of clients at once without a lot of overhead! I'm getting the hang of setting up nginx and FastCGI PHP but I can't wrap my head around nginx's rewrite format just yet. I know you have to write some simple script that goes in the server {} block in the nginx config but I'm not yet familiar with the syntax. Could anyone with experience with both Apache and nginx help me convert this to nginx format? Thanks! # ------------------------------------------------------ # # Rewrite from canonical domain (remove www.) # # ------------------------------------------------------ # RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.domain.com RewriteRule (.*) http://domain.com/$1 [R=301,L] # ------------------------------------------------------ # # This redirects index.php to / # # ------------------------------------------------------ # RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]+\ /(index|index\.php)\ HTTP/ RewriteRule ^(index|index\.php)$ http://domain.com/ [R=301,L] # ------------------------------------------------------ # # This rewrites 'directories' to their PHP files, # # fixes trailing-slash issues, and redirects .php # # to 'directory' to avoid duplicate content. # # ------------------------------------------------------ # RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/$1.php -f RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1.php [L] RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/$1.php -f RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ http://domain.com/$1 [R=301,L] RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]+\ /[^.]+\.php\ HTTP/ RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/$1.php -f RewriteRule ^([^.]+)\.php$ http://domain.com/$1 [R=301,L] # ------------------------------------------------------ # # If it wasn't redirected previously and is not # # a file on the server, rewrite to image generation # # ------------------------------------------------------ # RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^([a-z0-9_\-@#\ "'\+]+)/?([a-z0-9_\-]+)?(\.png|/)?$ generation/image.php?user=${escapemap:$1}&template=${escapemap:$2} [NC,L]

• Compiling Gearman PHP Library for CentOS 5.8

- by Andrew Ellis
I've been trying to get Gearman compiled on CentOS 5.8 all afternoon. Unfortunately I am restricted to this version of CentOS by my CTO and how he has our entire network configured. I think it's simply because we don't have enough resources to upgrade our network... But anyways, the problem at hand. I have searched through Server Fault, Stack Overflow, Google, and am unable to locate a working solution. What I have below is stuff I have pieced together from my searching. Searches have told said to install the following via yum: yum -y install --enablerepo=remi boost141-devel libgearman-devel e2fsprogs-devel e2fsprogs gcc44 gcc-c++ To get the Boost headers working correctly I did this: cp -f /usr/lib/boost141/* /usr/lib/ cp -f /usr/lib64/boost141/* /usr/lib64/ rm -f /usr/include/boost ln -s /usr/include/boost141/boost /usr/include/boost With all of the dependancies installed and paths setup I then download and compile gearmand-1.1.2 just fine. wget -O /tmp/gearmand-1.1.2.tar.gz https://launchpad.net/gearmand/1.2/1.1.2/+download/gearmand-1.1.2.tar.gz cd /tmp && tar zxvf gearmand-1.1.2.tar.gz ./configure && make -j8 && make install That works correctly. So now I need to install the Gearman library for PHP. I have attempted through PECL and downloading the source directly, both result in the same error: checking whether to enable gearman support... yes, shared not found configure: error: Please install libgearman What I don't understand is I installed the libgearman-devel package which also installed the core libgearman. The installation installs libgearman-devel-0.14-3.el5.x86_64, libgearman-devel-0.14-3.el5.i386, libgearman-0.14-3.el5.x86_64, and libgearman-0.14-3.el5.i386. Is it possible the package version is lower than what is required? I'm still poking around with this, but figured I'd throw this up to see if anyone has a solution while I continue to research a fix. Thanks!
