  • Flash Builder missing fundamental things

    - by Bart van Heukelom
    All of a sudden Flash Builder 4 is missing all kinds of fundamental things and is generating incorrect errors. I've had the same issue yesterday, where I fixed it by downloading a new Flex SDK and importing that into FB. I did this again, but this time it fixed nothing. I don't think it's something I did, like removing critical references from the build path. The errors also appeared on projects I was not working on at the time. It occurs for ActionScript, Flex and Flex Library projects alike. Update: I find this stack trace in the Flash Builder error log: !ENTRY com.adobe.flexbuilder.project 4 43 2010-05-11 11:55:47.495 !MESSAGE Uncaught exception in compiler !STACK 0 java.lang.NullPointerException at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:2592) at macromedia.asc.parser.VariableBindingNode.evaluate(VariableBindingNode.java:64) at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:2233) at macromedia.asc.parser.ListNode.evaluate(ListNode.java:44) at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:2578) at macromedia.asc.parser.VariableDefinitionNode.evaluate(VariableDefinitionNode.java:48) at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:2310) at macromedia.asc.parser.StatementListNode.evaluate(StatementListNode.java:60) at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:2503) at macromedia.asc.parser.WithStatementNode.evaluate(WithStatementNode.java:44) at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:2310) at macromedia.asc.parser.StatementListNode.evaluate(StatementListNode.java:60) at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:2891) at macromedia.asc.parser.FunctionCommonNode.evaluate(FunctionCommonNode.java:106) at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:2905) at macromedia.asc.parser.FunctionCommonNode.evaluate(FunctionCommonNode.java:106) at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:3643) at macromedia.asc.parser.ClassDefinitionNode.evaluate(ClassDefinitionNode.java:106) at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:3371) at macromedia.asc.parser.ProgramNode.evaluate(ProgramNode.java:80) at flex2.compiler.as3.As3Compiler.analyze4(As3Compiler.java:709) at flex2.compiler.CompilerAPI.analyze(CompilerAPI.java:3089) at flex2.compiler.CompilerAPI.analyze(CompilerAPI.java:2977) at flex2.compiler.CompilerAPI.batch2(CompilerAPI.java:528) at flex2.compiler.CompilerAPI.batch(CompilerAPI.java:1274) at flex2.compiler.CompilerAPI.compile(CompilerAPI.java:1496) at flex2.tools.oem.Application.compile(Application.java:1188) at flex2.tools.oem.Application.recompile(Application.java:1133) at flex2.tools.oem.Application.compile(Application.java:819) at flex2.tools.flexbuilder.BuilderApplication.compile(BuilderApplication.java:344) at com.adobe.flexbuilder.multisdk.compiler.internal.ASApplicationBuilder$MyBuilder.mybuild(ASApplicationBuilder.java:276) at com.adobe.flexbuilder.multisdk.compiler.internal.ASApplicationBuilder.build(ASApplicationBuilder.java:127) at com.adobe.flexbuilder.multisdk.compiler.internal.ASBuilder.build(ASBuilder.java:190) at com.adobe.flexbuilder.multisdk.compiler.internal.ASItemBuilder.build(ASItemBuilder.java:74) at com.adobe.flexbuilder.project.compiler.internal.FlexProjectBuilder.buildItem(FlexProjectBuilder.java:480) at com.adobe.flexbuilder.project.compiler.internal.FlexProjectBuilder.build(FlexProjectBuilder.java:306) at com.adobe.flexbuilder.project.compiler.internal.FlexIncrementalBuilder.build(FlexIncrementalBuilder.java:157) at org.eclipse.core.internal.events.BuildManager$2.run(BuildManager.java:627) at org.eclipse.core.runtime.SafeRunner.run(SafeRunner.java:42) at org.eclipse.core.internal.events.BuildManager.basicBuild(BuildManager.java:170) at org.eclipse.core.internal.events.BuildManager.basicBuild(BuildManager.java:201) at org.eclipse.core.internal.events.BuildManager$1.run(BuildManager.java:253) at org.eclipse.core.runtime.SafeRunner.run(SafeRunner.java:42) at org.eclipse.core.internal.events.BuildManager.basicBuild(BuildManager.java:256) at org.eclipse.core.internal.events.BuildManager.basicBuildLoop(BuildManager.java:309) at org.eclipse.core.internal.events.BuildManager.build(BuildManager.java:341) at org.eclipse.core.internal.events.AutoBuildJob.doBuild(AutoBuildJob.java:140) at org.eclipse.core.internal.events.AutoBuildJob.run(AutoBuildJob.java:238) at org.eclipse.core.internal.jobs.Worker.run(Worker.java:55)

  • AS3 "Loader" progress immediately goes to 100%

    - by Bart van Heukelom
    If you go to http://moederdagontbijtplacemat.nl/ you will see a progress bar. The application is loading a fairly large SWF from the server using the Loader class. Strangely enough, the progress bar immediately goes to 100% (but the loading still takes a while after that). The code is below, but you'll see it's basically too simple to break. It has worked when the application was on a different server, so I though maybe the new server wasn't sending the size of the large SWF in the http headers. Firebug does show a progress bar though, so that is not the case, the information should be available. It also works when I run the loader swf locally and change the URL (new URLRequest("Placemat.swf")) to the absolute URL of Placemat.swf on the server. var l:Loader = new Loader(); addChild(l); l.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, function(e:ProgressEvent) { s.setProgress(e.bytesLoaded/e.bytesTotal); trace(Math.round(100 * e.bytesLoaded/e.bytesTotal), "%"); }); l.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, function() { removeChild(s); }); l.load(new URLRequest("Placemat.swf"));

  • Avoiding unsafe cast for generic situation involving runtime passing of class

  • Breaking a concave polygon into convex ones.

    - by Bart van Heukelom
    I'm using a game physics library (Box2D) which only supports convex polygon shapes. However, I'd like the level builder to be able to just specify concave polygons without having to worry about that. So, how can I automatically break apart a concave polygon into convex ones (or even all triangles). Speed would be cool, but ease of implementation is more important. The breaking apart will only be done on game initialization. (My language is Flash/ActionScript 3, but that shouldn't matter)

  • "Simple" Text replace function

    - by YourMomzThaBomb
    I have a string which is basically a list of "words" delimited by commas. These "words" can be pretty much any character e.g. "Bart Simpson, Ex-girlfriend, dude, radical" I'm trying to use javascript, jQuery, whatever i can to replace a word based on a search string with nothing (in essence, removing the word from the list). For example, the function is defined as such: function removeWord(myString, wordToReplace) {...}; So, passing the string listed above as myString and passing "dude" as wordToReplace would return the string "Bart Simpson, Ex-girlfriend, radical" Here's the line of code I was tinkering around with...please help me figure out what's wrong with it or some alternative (better) solution:$myString.val($myString.val().replace(/wordToReplace\, /, ""));

  • Soft Paint Bucket Fill: Colour Equality

    - by Bart van Heukelom
    I'm making a small app where children can fill preset illustrations with colours. I've succesfully implemented an MS-paint style paint bucket using the flood fill argorithm. However, near the edges of image elements pixels are left unfilled, because the lines are anti-aliased. This is because the current condition on whether to fill is colourAtCurrentPixel == colourToReplace (the colours are RGB uints) I'd like to add a smoothing/treshold option like in Photoshop and other sophisticated tools, but what's the algorithm to determine the equality/distance between two colours? if (match(pixel(x,y), colourToReplace) setpixel(x,y,colourToReplaceWith) How to fill in match()? Here's my current full code: var b:BitmapData = settings.background; b.lock(); var from:uint = b.getPixel(x,y); var q:Array = []; var xx:int; var yy:int; var w:int = b.width; var h:int = b.height; q.push(y*w + x); while (q.length != 0) { var xy:int = q.shift(); xx = xy % w; yy = (xy - xx) / w; if (b.getPixel(xx,yy) == from) { b.setPixel(xx,yy,to); if (xx != 0) q.push(xy-1); if (xx != w-1) q.push(xy+1); if (yy != 0) q.push(xy-w); if (yy != h-1) q.push(xy+w); } } b.unlock(null);

  • Flex SDK missing fundamental things

I don't think it's something I did, like removing critical references from the build path. The errors also appeared on projects I was not working on at the time. It occurs for ActionScript, Flex and Flex Library projects alike. Update 3: Well, i've singled the problem down to a single piece of code, though a very simple one. I can make a new workspace in FB and things work ok, then screw the workspace up forever by adding this code to a project. All projects will have errors and closing or even removing the faulty project does not change this. Making another new workspace (without the faulty code) makes my projects compile again. Link: http://www.the3rdage.net/files/2745/Main.as (i've uploaded the file in case an odd character or encoding error causes the error) Update 2: I've tried manual compiling with mxmlc, the same errors occur. It appears to be an SDK problem, not Flash Builder. Update: I find this stack trace in the Flash Builder error log: !ENTRY com.adobe.flexbuilder.project 4 43 2010-05-11 11:55:47.495 !MESSAGE Uncaught exception in compiler !STACK 0 java.lang.NullPointerException at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:2592) at macromedia.asc.parser.VariableBindingNode.evaluate(VariableBindingNode.java:64) at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:2233) at macromedia.asc.parser.ListNode.evaluate(ListNode.java:44) at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:2578) at macromedia.asc.parser.VariableDefinitionNode.evaluate(VariableDefinitionNode.java:48) at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:2310) at macromedia.asc.parser.StatementListNode.evaluate(StatementListNode.java:60) at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:2503) at macromedia.asc.parser.WithStatementNode.evaluate(WithStatementNode.java:44) at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:2310) at macromedia.asc.parser.StatementListNode.evaluate(StatementListNode.java:60) at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:2891) at macromedia.asc.parser.FunctionCommonNode.evaluate(FunctionCommonNode.java:106) at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:2905) at macromedia.asc.parser.FunctionCommonNode.evaluate(FunctionCommonNode.java:106) at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:3643) at macromedia.asc.parser.ClassDefinitionNode.evaluate(ClassDefinitionNode.java:106) at macromedia.asc.semantics.ConstantEvaluator.evaluate(ConstantEvaluator.java:3371) at macromedia.asc.parser.ProgramNode.evaluate(ProgramNode.java:80) at flex2.compiler.as3.As3Compiler.analyze4(As3Compiler.java:709) at flex2.compiler.CompilerAPI.analyze(CompilerAPI.java:3089) at flex2.compiler.CompilerAPI.analyze(CompilerAPI.java:2977) at flex2.compiler.CompilerAPI.batch2(CompilerAPI.java:528) at flex2.compiler.CompilerAPI.batch(CompilerAPI.java:1274) at flex2.compiler.CompilerAPI.compile(CompilerAPI.java:1496) at flex2.tools.oem.Application.compile(Application.java:1188) at flex2.tools.oem.Application.recompile(Application.java:1133) at flex2.tools.oem.Application.compile(Application.java:819) at flex2.tools.flexbuilder.BuilderApplication.compile(BuilderApplication.java:344) at com.adobe.flexbuilder.multisdk.compiler.internal.ASApplicationBuilder$MyBuilder.mybuild(ASApplicationBuilder.java:276) at com.adobe.flexbuilder.multisdk.compiler.internal.ASApplicationBuilder.build(ASApplicationBuilder.java:127) at com.adobe.flexbuilder.multisdk.compiler.internal.ASBuilder.build(ASBuilder.java:190) at com.adobe.flexbuilder.multisdk.compiler.internal.ASItemBuilder.build(ASItemBuilder.java:74) at com.adobe.flexbuilder.project.compiler.internal.FlexProjectBuilder.buildItem(FlexProjectBuilder.java:480) at com.adobe.flexbuilder.project.compiler.internal.FlexProjectBuilder.build(FlexProjectBuilder.java:306) at com.adobe.flexbuilder.project.compiler.internal.FlexIncrementalBuilder.build(FlexIncrementalBuilder.java:157) at org.eclipse.core.internal.events.BuildManager$2.run(BuildManager.java:627) at org.eclipse.core.runtime.SafeRunner.run(SafeRunner.java:42) at org.eclipse.core.internal.events.BuildManager.basicBuild(BuildManager.java:170) at org.eclipse.core.internal.events.BuildManager.basicBuild(BuildManager.java:201) at org.eclipse.core.internal.events.BuildManager$1.run(BuildManager.java:253) at org.eclipse.core.runtime.SafeRunner.run(SafeRunner.java:42) at org.eclipse.core.internal.events.BuildManager.basicBuild(BuildManager.java:256) at org.eclipse.core.internal.events.BuildManager.basicBuildLoop(BuildManager.java:309) at org.eclipse.core.internal.events.BuildManager.build(BuildManager.java:341) at org.eclipse.core.internal.events.AutoBuildJob.doBuild(AutoBuildJob.java:140) at org.eclipse.core.internal.events.AutoBuildJob.run(AutoBuildJob.java:238) at org.eclipse.core.internal.jobs.Worker.run(Worker.java:55)

  • redirect user, then log his visit using php and mysql

    - by Bart van Heukelom
    I have a PHP redirect page to track clicks on links. Basically it does: - get url from $_GET - connect to database - create row for url, or update with 1 hit if it exists - redirect browser to url using Location: header I was wondering if it's possible to send the redirect to the client first, so it can get on with it's job, and then log the click. Would simply switching things around work?

  • Application compiled by Flex Builder 3 does not trace

    - by Bart van Heukelom
    I've built a simple application in Flex Builder 3 with some trace() calls. It's an "ActionScript Project", no MXML or AIR involved. I don't run the app from within Eclipse, I just open the generated html file with Firefox. I'm using the Flash Player 10 Debug version. I've correctly set mm.cnf to log trace output, following the official instructions. A flashlog.txt file is generate in the appropriate location. Despite all that, trace output is not shown in the log file. What am I doing wrong? (I suspect it's a compiler option, but I can find no such option in the project options in FlexBuilder) (If I do run the app from Eclipse, by pressing F11, I can see trace output but only inside Eclipse, not in the log file)

  • How can Swing dialogs even work?

    - by Bart van Heukelom
    If you open a dialog in Swing, for example a JFileChooser, it goes somewhat like this pseudocode: swing event thread { create dialog add listener to dialog close event { returnValue = somethingFromDialog } show dialog (wait until it is closed) return returnValue } My question is: how can this possibly work? As you can see the thread waits to return until the dialog is closed. This means the Swing event thread is blocked. Yet, one can interact with the dialog, which AFAIK requires this thread to run. So how does that work?

  • Get calling user ID in PHP setuid script

    - by Bart van Heukelom
    I have a PHP script on Linux in which the sticky bit is set, so it gets executed as the file owner. How can I get the user id of the calling process, for authorization purposes? Context: I have two applications on a server, and want one to request some info from the other. For this reason the other offers a script with setuid, but I want to make sure it can only be called by the one.

  • Fast or asynchronous AS3 JPEG encoding

    - by Bart van Heukelom
    I'm currently using the JPGEncoder from the AS3 core lib to encode a bitmap to JPEG var enc:JPGEncoder = new JPGEncoder(90); var jpg:ByteArray = enc.encode(bitmap); Because the bitmap is rather large (3000 x 2000) the encoding takes a long while (about 20 seconds), causing the application to seemingly freeze while encoding. To solve this, I need either: An asynchronous encoder so I can keep updating the screen (with a progress bar or something) while encoding An alternative encoder which is simply faster Is either possible?

  • Access generic type parameter at runtime?

  • PHP autoloader: ignoring non-existing include

    - by Bart van Heukelom
    I have a problem with my autoloader: public function loadClass($className) { $file = str_replace(array('_', '\\'), '/', $className) . '.php'; include_once $file; } As you can see, it's quite simple. I just deduce the filename of the class and try to include it. I have a problem though; I get an exception when trying to load a non-existing class (because I have an error handler which throws exceptions). This is inconvenient, because it's also fired when you use class_exists() on a non-existing class. You don't want an exception there, just a "false" returned. I fixed this earlier by putting an @ before the include (supressing all errors). The big drawback with this, though, is that any parser/compiler errors (that are fatal) in this include won't show up (not even in the logs), resulting in a hard to find bug. What would be the best way to solve both problems at once? The easiest way would be to include something like this in the autoloader (pseudocode): foreach (path in the include_path) { if (is_readable(the path + the class name)) readable = true; } if (!readable) return; But I worry about the performance there. Would it hurt a lot? (Solved) Made it like this: public function loadClass($className) { $file = str_replace(array('_', '\\'), '/', $className) . '.php'; $paths = explode(PATH_SEPARATOR, get_include_path()); foreach ($paths as $path) { if (is_readable($path . '/' . $file)) { include_once $file; return; } } }

Now the game is changed so deltaTime isn't always 1/30 but becomes variable. How can I incorporate deltaTime in the calculation of x to keep the "effect per second" the same?

  • How to write custom (odd) authentication plugins for Wordpress, Joomla and MediaWiki?

    - by Bart van Heukelom
    On our network (a group of related websites - not a LAN) we have a common authentication system which works like this: On a network site ("consumer") the user clicks on a login link This redirects the user to a login page on our auth system ("RAS"). Upon successful login the user is directed back to the consumer site. Extra data is passed in the query string. This extra data does not include any information about the user yet. The consumer site's backend contacts RAS, with this extra data, to get the information about the logged in user (id, name, email, preferences, etc.). So as you can see, the consumer site knows nothing about the authentication method. It doesn't know if it's by username/password, fingerprint, smartcard, or winning a game of poker. This is the main problem I'm encountering when trying to find out how I could write custom authentication plugins for these packages, acting as consumer sites: Wordpress Joomla MediaWiki For example Joomla offers a pretty simple auth plugin system, but it depends on a username/password entered on the Joomla site. Any hints on where to start?

    In my Flash app, I'm connecting to my server like this: Security.loadPolicyFile("xmlsocket://example.com:12860"); socket = new Socket("example.com", 12869); socket.writeByte(...); ... socket.flush(); At port 12860 I'm running a socket policy server, which (according to this document) correctly serves up my policy like this: 00000000 3c 70 6f 6c 69 63 79 2d 66 69 6c 65 2d 72 65 71 <policy- file-req 00000010 75 65 73 74 2f 3e 00 uest/>. 00000000 3c 63 72 6f 73 73 2d 64 6f 6d 61 69 6e 2d 70 6f <cross-d omain-po 00000010 6c 69 63 79 3e 3c 73 69 74 65 2d 63 6f 6e 74 72 licy><si te-contr 00000020 6f 6c 20 70 65 72 6d 69 74 74 65 64 2d 63 72 6f ol permi tted-cro 00000030 73 73 2d 64 6f 6d 61 69 6e 2d 70 6f 6c 69 63 69 ss-domai n-polici 00000040 65 73 3d 22 6d 61 73 74 65 72 2d 6f 6e 6c 79 22 es="mast er-only" 00000050 20 2f 3e 3c 61 6c 6c 6f 77 2d 61 63 63 65 73 73 /><allo w-access 00000060 2d 66 72 6f 6d 20 64 6f 6d 61 69 6e 3d 22 2a 22 -from do main="*" 00000070 20 74 6f 2d 70 6f 72 74 73 3d 22 31 32 38 36 39 to-port s="12869 00000080 22 20 2f 3e 3c 2f 63 72 6f 73 73 2d 64 6f 6d 61 " /></cr oss-doma 00000090 69 6e 2d 70 6f 6c 69 63 79 3e 00 in-polic y>. I get no security warnings, which I used to get before the policy server was in place. Still, the connection to port 12869 doesn't work. It's made (I can see with Wireshark and on the server), but no data is sent by Flash. It might be worth knowing that the SWF itself is served from example.com as well.
