  • Windows 7 blank dvi screen

    I've just upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I had an issue during installation; after setup rebooted instead of going to the 'Completing installation' screen I just got a blank screen. I eventually(!) figured out that this meant 'un-plug your second monitor to proceed'. When I did this, installation completed in a snap and everything runs fine. However, whenever I plug my second monitor into my PC, it gets no signal, the the primary monitor removes all windows. icons, the taskbar and the cursor just shows the desktop wallpaper. I'm running a GTS8800 512mb, with the latest drivers (197 IIRC). The monitors are identical, and both plug into DVI sockets on the graphics card, the only difference is I connect one using a straight DVI cable and the other using a VGA cable and a VGA-DVI converter. It's the DVI cabled one that has the issues (if I plug it in by itself it gets no signal). Everything was working fine before I upgraded to Windows 7 (I used to run XPSP2). Anyone have any ideas?

    I have a problem in dvd drive i.e. It can read CD/DVD and can write CD and all CD/DVD-RW but cannot write DVD DVD drive model is SH-S203B Samsung; I also have a log file created by nero burning rom 11. Actually the fact is no Blank DVD's are being read in my dvd drive only previously written dvd's can be read! Is this the problem of OS or should I try cleaning the dvd drive or my DVD drive is 4yrs old so is it going to spoil now, since it is showing this type of symptoms!   • Blank list of windows services

    Recently when I open windows services (always as administrator) I get a blank list of services: When I try and click on one of the empty lines I get this "Script Error" message: This happens over and over again, after several times I restarted my computer. I can't pinpoint exactly when this started happening or if I made any specific changes to my computer at that time. Someone told my to try running scf /scannow as administrator, but when I try to do that the scan stops at 34% and I get the message: "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation." I am running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit, and I would really like to avoid reinstalling windows. Does anyone know how to fix this? Edit - Here is another attempt I made and some more information that might help: Following WhoIsRich's suggestion, I tried the command sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows. This gave the error message "The arguments passed to sfc are invalid. The offline windows directory specified points to the online system", and then I realized this command is meant to be run after booting from another system. Since I don't have my windows installation disk right now, I used my own system to create a recovery disk, and then restarted my computer and used the recovery disk to boot. I then ran the above command, and I got the following message: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.log". I then restarted my computer and let it boot up normally. The problem with windows services persists, and the CBS.log file is a long log file with many entries, and I don't know if there is useful information in it, and if there is, how to find it.

  • PHP Causing Segmentation Fault & Apache Blank Response

    I recently updated a Debian Lenny server to php 5.3,5 using the dotdeb source. Soon after doing so certain (but not all) sites on the server stopped responding to requests. A blank response would be returned - no headers, no content, nothing. I found this related question on stackoverflow which seems to describe something similar and used the same code the user had in their answer to see if I could replicate the issue: <?php class A { public function __construct() { new B; } } class B { public function __construct() { new A; } } new A; print 'Loaded Class A'; ?> This triggered the problem - the page returned absolutely nothing despite the original question stating this was fixed in PHP 5.5.0. No CPU block as you'd expect, no wait, just an almost instant zero response. I then ran this same code from the cli (php -f test.php) and the only output I got was 'Segmentation fault'.   • PHP displays blank white page even with all error reporting enabled

    I am trying to debug a broken page in a Drupal application and am having a hard time getting PHP to spit anything useful out. I have the following set: error_reporting = E_ALL display_errors = On display_startup_errors = On log_errors = On error_log = /var/log/php/php_error.log I have a file showing me phpinfo() which confirms these variables are set correctly for the environment. I have increased memory_limit to 256M (which should be more than enough). Yet, the only indication I get is a status 500 code in the apache access log and a blank white page from PHP.   • Some Emails incoming to Outlook 2007 are blank, same emails work fine on webmail, iphone, etc

    This is a pretty easy problem to describe. Basically users who have just been upgraded to Outlook 2007 (yeah I know 2010 is out), are not receiving SOME emails (from outside our domain, ie hotmail, yahoo). Receiving is not the correct word, these emails come in, along with their attachments, subjects, to/from line, etc. But the body is blank. If the same user goes into their webmail, iphone, blackberry instead, they can read the message fine. It's clear to me that something in Outlook 2007 is not generating the body correctly, so it just strips it. I just don't know WHY. Our mail server was recently upgraded to Exchange 2010, users on 2010 running outlook 2003 are working fine, it's just the random emails for users using 2007. I hope I made that clear enough, thank you for any future help guys. EDIT: I don't see rft, but i swear I've seen it before.   • .php file blank - .php5 files works

    I have a problem with a server of mine. I've installed virtualmin/webin on it for administration and I have 1 domain on it. DNS management is external. On this domain I only have an html "Under Construction" index and 5 subdomains. In all those subdomains I have PHP systems running perfectly. I've tried to install Wordpress on the main domain and I'm having some issues: None .php files loads. I have made a phpinfo file on it to check it and it won't work either; only a blank page appears. When I check the source code of it in browser, appears the code. I have changed the extensions to .php5 and it worked perfectly. Something is going wrong with it but I can't figure out what. I have checked the apache error and nothing appears. 3 Days ago I upgraded from php 5.2.* to 5.4.21. Server is running CentOS 5.10.

  • Apache forwarding to tomcat shows a blank page

    I have an application running on tomcat at http ://www.example.com:9090/mycontext. The host name in server.xml points to www .example.com. I do not have localhost anymore. I am using apache to forward requests to tomcat using mod_proxy. Things work fine as long as the ProxyPath is /mycontext. The server name setup in virtual host is www .abc.com and http ://www.abc.com/mycontext works fine. However I would like to ignore the context path and simply use http://www.abc.com/ to forward requests to http://www.example.com:9090/mycontext. When I do this, apache shows me a blank page. What am I missing here?   • Syntax error results in blank page

    I am new to wicket and trying to get some things working. One thing that annoys me a lot is that I get a blank (0 chars of text) page whenever there is a syntax error on a page. Striped down example: Test.html header stuff: doctype ... html ... head ... body ... <span wicket:id="msgTest" id="message">MSG</span> footer stuff: /body ... /html Test.java public class Test extends WebPage { public Test() { add(new Label("msgTest", "Hello, World!")); } } This will output the page as expected. Now, lets introduce an error: header stuff: doctype ... html ... head ... body ... <span wicket:id="msgTest2" id="message">MSG</span> footer stuff: /body ... /html I changed the label-id to something different then what the source-file expects. If I run this code I get the already mentioned blank page. However, for every request to a page with such a syntax error I get an error report in the log-file of around 1000+ lines. This error-report is basically just wicket-generated html of a page which describes the error. This makes me wonder why wicket isn't displaying the error-stuff instead of the blank page. I'm not very experienced with wicket but to me it somehow looks like wicket is having trouble rendering its own error-page code. It would be nice to know how one goes about finding syntax-errors with wicket. Reading through a 1000+ line error-report for a small error like a misplaced character seems a bit tedious. I'm using MATLAB to open a batch of CSV files containing column headers and data (using the 'importdata' function), then I manipulate the data a bit and write the headers and data to new CSV files using the 'dlmwrite' function. I'm using the '-append' and 'newline' attributes of 'dlmwrite' to add each line of text/data on a new line. Each of my new CSV files has a blank line at the end, whereas this blank line was not there before when I read in the data ... and I'm not using 'newline' on my final call of 'dlmwrite'. Does anyone know how I can keep from writing this blank line to the end of my CSV files?   • Changing Physical Path gives blank homepage

    I have two websites ASP Classic - www.company.com and www.companytesting.com. At this time of year, company.com is pointed to a folder called website2012 and companytesting.com is pointing to a folder called website2013. The contents of those two folders are almost identical, just minor changes for our season change (which I was supposed to do today - lol). Up until a couple of weeks ago, I was running Windows Server 2003. To update the "live" website, I'd make a copy of the test site folder, and rename it website2013R1, and point the test site there, then point the live site at website2012. We now have Windows Server 2008 R2 64. (I had someone migrate the websites to the new server for me.) The companytesting.com site, when I pointed it to website2013R1, worked fine. The company.com site, when I pointed it to website2013 (which worked just before, for the companytesting.com site) gives an empty page. (i.e. view source = nothing there.) There is nothing in the failed request log when this happens. I can use the Explore button/link (upper right) in IIS7.5 and see all of the files there. If I use the browse button (either in general or on the index.asp page) I get the blank page again. One weirdness about how these are set up is that companytesting.com uses a login (which I think is windows authentication - it's simply a single username and password for staff, and to keep the GoogleBots out of it). Obviously, company.com does not. But redirecting the to website2013r1 kept the login in place. (So I'm not absolutely clear whether that's attached to the folder or to the site. Hitting the company.com site after changing the path did not yield a password request.) The permissions on the folders all seem to be the same, but obviously, I'm missing something. Why isn't changing the physical path working? As is probably obvious, I'm not knowledgeable about servers. I did OK in 2003, but since it's not my main task and I'm buried right now, I have barely looked at 2008. So I may have really stupid questions when you ask me to check something.

    I'm having a serious problem with my computer; I think I've narrowed it down to the motherboard, but I'd like a second opinion before I spend the money. Before I moved into my new apartment, my desktop was working fine; now, it just won't work. It will turn on, the fans will spin up, lights come on... but nothing appears on the screen. No POST, nothing. I've tried: A different monitor (both are VGA) A different video-card (both are DVI, PCIe) Three different, known-good VGA-DVI adapters The onboard video port (VGA) Reseating the memory, and trying only one stick Different, known-good wall-outlets Unplugging the HDD and CD-drive from both the motherboard and PSU Replacing the PSU Has anyone had this happen before?   • Blank black screen with cursor after login -- RHEL5

    I have a RHEL 5 machine here which is a Dell Precision T3500. I'm an Ubuntu guy, but I'm having a heck of a time with this machine. After processing its first security update, we cannot log in via the gdm greeter. A new kernel was installed; then I installed the nVidia drivers for our Quadro NVS 295. I know the X configuration is valid because the gdm greeter does display; however, upon login all we can get is a blank, black screen with a cursor. I thought perhaps our python installation was corrupted but a reinstall via yum has not helped. I have searched & googled extensively for a potential fix for this and can find nothing. Below are outputs from uname, a tail of an error in /var/log/messages, and the Xorg.conf. Can anyone suggest a course of action?   • windows 7 monitor instantly resumes from power off

    It seems that some service or program is preventing my monitor from going into power save mode but I cannot find a way to dig down the cause. Does anybody know a way to find out which event may be causing the problem? Background information: If I leave/lock my computer I want to immediately power off the monitor. Stupid windows has no program for this so I use a third party utility. I use Display.exe from Noel Danjou since 2005 and have had no problem with it on XP, my Notebook with w7 x64 pro and at the office with w7 x64 enterprise. With my new home pc with w7 x64 pro the monitor goes off but instantly comes back on after a second. So I tested using a power plan with the shortest timeout of 1 minute but with that the display never goes off at all. (Setting a power plan timeout is no useful option because then I cannot read a document or watch a movie without the monitor going off) I could try trial and error methods but this is cumbersome and not what I regard as a professional solution. So I would prefer a way to analyze the windows events to find out the reason for the display staying active. Add On: In the meantime I tried safe mode and also exited from all tray programs but the problem is still there. I also checked the BIOS for special power settings but still no solution (P.S. Mobo is H87-G41 PC Mate with latest BIOS rev.)

  • Screen randomly goes blue/black/white

    Problem Randomly, while using my computer, the monitor goes dark grey/almost black, or it goes white with faint grey vertical lines, or it goes blue with black vertical lines. It's as if the computer powers off. People tell me I sign out of Skype, Spotify stops playing when it happens, etc. When I look at the tower, it doesn't seem like it's off at all. Nothing changes, fans are spinning, lights are on, etc. If you were only looking at the tower, you'd never know there was a problem The only way I can get it to come back up is to push and hold the power button and turn it off, then back on This never happens while I'm playing video games. I've done 5-6 hour sessions of League of Legends, and it doesn't do anything When I'm just browsing the web, reading email, checking Reddit, etc, it happens all the time. It can happen multiple times in a session, it usually takes only about 5 minutes from the time I start browsing to when the computer crashes This started happening after I moved to a new apartment (this has to be relevant somehow, it was not happening where I lived before) There is nothing in the crash logs or event logs System Specs i5 2500k CPU AMD Radeon 6800 GPU Gigabyte z68a-d3h-b3 motherboard WD VelociRaptor 1 TB HDD Screenshots Device manager About screen Things I have tried I was getting a WMI Error in my event logs, but I fixed it using Microsoft's fix, KB 2545227 I was using Windows 8. I wiped the HDD and downgraded to Windows 7 64 bit I took out the video card and used a can of air to totally clean out the video card, all fans, and the inside of the computer in general. I made sure all of the video card pins were fine, then reconnected it I tried to update my motherboard BIOS, but anything I downloaded from Gigabyte was only for 32 bit machines, not 64. I don't even know how to tell what my motherboard BIOS is at right now I am using a power strip, and anything else connected to it works just fine If I re-seat the monitor cable while this is happening, nothing changes Please, help me. I've been battling this for several weeks now, and it's so frustrating it makes me not even want to use the computer.

  • Suspending/Screen Going Off When Still In Use (Ubuntu & Arch)

    I have a laptop (HP Pavilion G6) that was running Ubuntu and for a while now (at least 6 months) has been having a problems randomly suspending whilst still in use with a full battery and still being charged. Originally the problem was with Ubuntu so I first attempted to disable suspend using every way I could find (gui settings + dconf editor) this didn't work and it still kept suspending so I ended up switching to Arch Linux. Unfortunately not long after switching to Arch Linux I ended up experiencing the same problems. So yet again I modified the settings in /etc/systemd/logind.conf to prevent it from suspending and this time it worked, kind of. Now I am experiencing the screen going off and I have to change to a different tty (by using ctrl-alt-fx, which was something I also found I had to do sometimes when waking up from suspend in Ubuntu) to get the screen to go back on. The strange thing is this only happens when running a Linux distros and only occasionally (e.g. it may happen once/twice a week at most). But when it does happen it can happen multiple times in a row. And it only seems to happen when I am using it. This may just mean that it hasn't happened yet when I am not but generally if I leave it to run something or play a video it hasn't occurred only when I am using it regardless of which program I am using (e.g. it has occurred when using firefox, vim, even when using a virtualbox vm). At first I thought it could be the CPU temperature but after monitoring it I discovered it occurred a lot of the time when my CPU was less than 50 °C. I then checked /var/log/* but could not see anything related to it suspending only a few standard things from when it was woken up. I am really out of ideas and really hoping someone can help.     How to remove a blank page that gets added automatically after \part{} or \chapter{} in a book document class? I need to add some short text describing the \part. Adding some text after the part command results in at least 3 pages with an empty page between the part heading and the text: Part xx (empty) some text How to get rid of that empty page? P.S. Latex: How to remove blank pages coming between two chapters IN Appendix? is similar but it changes the behavior for the rest of the text while I need to remove the empty page for this one \part command only.

  • Rails: blank page - no errors or stack trace

    I've been trying to fix a bug in the Rails app I'm developing, and I keep getting a blank screen with no errors. I haven't found anything helpful in development.log, either (though it does show queries being run and such). Finally, I started to wonder if it's somehow set not to show errors anymore. I tried commenting out a necessary route, and sure enough, I got a blank page instead of the error and stack trace I expected. What might cause this? (I wondered if maybe I'm accidentally running production mode and errors aren't supposed to show then, but development.log is being appended, and if I open script/console and echo ENV['RAILS_ENV'], it says development.)

    Hi All, Sorry about the wording for my question title. I have a basic HTML anchor tag that when clicked it is suppose to bring up a dialog box to download a file from a differnt website. I am using an attribute of target="_blank" so that when my hyperlink is clicked, I don't navigate away from my main window. This is all the easy part (if it was so easy I wouldnt be here though). When I do the above though, and click on the hyperlink, an annoying blank window pops up with my download dialog box behind it. How do I get rid of that annoying blank window and keep only my download dialog box on the screen?
