  • "Shared Folders" Feature Is Not Working In VirtualBox

    I have Ubuntu 11.10 as a host and another linux 2.6 distribution as a guest. When I try to setup guest additions, this error message appears Building the shared folder support module .. fail And because of that, when I run the following in terminal mount -t vboxsf shared /root/shared I get the following error message mount: unknown filesystem type 'vboxsf' Any syggestions please? EDIT Sorry, the mentioned error message isn't complete, this is it. Building the shared folder support module ...fail!   • Webex "Share Application" Feature on 11.04

    Since upgrading to 11.04, when I use WebEx in either Chrome OR Firefox, and select "Share Application" I can click on applications running on my desktop, but they aren't shared. No errors are displayed. This worked fine before I upgraded. I can "Share Desktop" okay, but I'd rather have "Share Application" working. Possibly related: Pandora loads maybe 60%, then stalls out. (But we're talking Java vs Flash, I think ...) Thanks, -danny

  • Can you transfer a Windows 7 XP-mode VHD to a new PC without the need for reactivation?

    Hi. At the moment I am running Vista 32 bit and use VPC 2007 a lot. I have several W2000 VMs set up with complex software configurations. For me, one of the advantages of working with VPCs is that a VM can easily be copied to another PC (like a notebook). Also, when I move to a new PC, I can immediately work with my existing VMs without the need to reinstall all applications. I am thinking about buying a new pc with Windows 7 64 bit pro, and using the xp-mode VM that comes with Windows 7. The advantages would be support for more memory (so being able to run more VM's simultaneously) and having a licenced XP VM. I would like to know if you can transfer a VHD that is based on the xp-mode VHD to another machine without Activation issues. The other machine will of course, also be running W7. I would guess that this would not be a problem. However, I did read about a guy who had to reinstall his W7 because of a harddisk failure, and could not access his xp-mode VHD anymore because it demanded re-activation. Thanks. Henk.

    Consider such code (let's say it is C++) Foo::Bar.get().X How one should keep the AST for this -- as "tree" with root at left Foo(Bar(get(X)), or with root at right (((Foo)Bar)get)X? Or maybe as a flat structure (list)? The first one seems more convenient when resolving names, the second when working with it as expression. I set tag parsing but I am asking from semantic analysis POV really (there is no such tag).

  • Free Typescript editor with definition based code completion feature

    I know that a plugin for Visual Studio exists. However i can't afford VS so i'm looking for a free alternative which can be used to code TypeScript and aware of the .d.ts definition files and can do code completion based on them. I know that Sublime Text and VIM can do syntax highlighting with the correct language definition file. However the biggest advantage of Typescript for me is that ability to give code assistance while coding. Are you aware of any editor which can do this? I'm interested even if it's in an experimental state.

  • Tracking feature requests for small-scale components

    I'm curious how other development teams (especially those that work in moderate to large development groups) track "future" features/wishlists for functionality for internally developed frameworks or components. I know the standard advice is that a development team should find one good tool for tracking bugs/features and use that for everything and I agree with that if the future requests are for the product itself. In my company we have an engineering department, which is broken up into multiple groups and within each there can be one to several agile teams. The bug tracking product we use has been "a leader since 1997" (their UI/usability seems to also be evaluated against that year even today) but my agile team or even group doesn't really control what is being used by the whole department. What we are looking to track is not necessarily product features but expansion/nice to have functionality for internal components that go into our product. So to name a few for example... framework/utility library on top of CppUnit which our developers share low-level IPC communications framework Common development SDK that myself and several other team leads started to help share some common code/tools at the department-wide level (this SDK is released as internal "product" to each of the groups). Is the standard practice to use the one bug tracking tool? Or would it make more sense to setup something more localized specifically for our needs and maintain it ourselves? It's also unclear how management will feel if developers start performing "IT" roles of maintaining software and servers. At the same time, right now, we use excel files, internal wiki and MS OneNote for this kind of stuff and that just doesn't feel right. (I'm afraid to ask for actual software recommendations, since that might make this question more localized or something. Also developers needs this way more than management, so it would be nice to find something either free or no more than the cost of a happy hour).

  • New Feature! Automatic Categories for Geekswithblogs.net

    One of the features we have been working on is a way to categorize posts without the need of all our bloggers getting on the same page with what categories we have and making them select the categories.  Johnny Kauffman, one of our team members at AJI Software, developed what we call the Sherlock Project over the past few months.  Sherlock is a category suggestion engine based on the content within the posts.  Now, after a post is published, Sherlock will investigate the content and come up with the suggested categories that content fits in.  This will now allow you to go to the specific topics you are interested in and see all the related posts. This is just the beginning, so many more opportunities will arise now that we have our content organized.  One of the first features I will be adding is RSS feeds for each category and sub category.  If you are into ALM, we will have a feed for that!   • Missing feature in Hyper-V from Virtual PC

    One thing I really miss is the ability to create shared folder between host and guest.  Virtual PC does this well, you can create Shared Folder to be used every time, or just this one.  I have read some posts on how to do this.  Some people suggest using ISO Creator to package up the files and mount the image to DVD drive, but what I need is truly a "shared" environment, so I'm currently looking into creating Virtual switch and creating an internal network between the host and guest.  Let's see how that works out. I would have loved to give Virtual SAN Manager a try, but I don't have a local Fibre Channel to set one up.
