  • Hilfe?! Wie funktioniert mein Werkzeug?

    Es gibt eine ganze Reihe an Oracle Tools für die Oracle Datenbank, die per Command Line Interfaces bedient werden können: Von RMAN über ADRCI, vom SQL*Loader über Export/Import, von SRVCTL über SQL*Plus. Und wie es sich für ordentliche Werkzeug gehört, besitzt auch (fast) jedes einzelne von ihnen eine eigene Hilfestellung. Wobei die Betonung eindeutig auf "eigene" liegt. Auch der ungeübte Benutzer wird sehr schnell merken, dass Oracle sich hier wohl nie so wirklich Gedanken darüber gemacht hat, die Hilfefunktionen zu vereinheitlichen - außer dass die Hilfe mehr oder weniger hilfreich ist. Die wohl interessanteste Ausprägung dieser Hilfefunktion ist hier sicherlich der RMAN, dessen umfangreiche Syntaxhilfe nur schwer zu erhalten ist - es sei denn man vertippt sich absichtlich. Solange man alles richtig macht (oder eben falsch, aber leider mit der richtigen Syntax) ist RMAN kein Hinweis über seine umfangreichen Syntaxchecker zu "entlocken".   • Aus 2 mach 1: Oracle Audit Vault and Database Firewall

    Gestern hat Oracle bekanntgegeben, dass die beiden Produkte Oracle Audit Vault und Oracle Database Firewall zu einem Produkt werden. Der neue Produktname wird "Oracle Audit Vault and Database Firewall" sein. Software und Dokumentation werden in den nächsten Tagen zum Download verfügbar sein. Das Zusammenlegen macht durchaus Sinn, denn die ursprünglichen Produkte wiesen im Bereich der Protokollierung und des Berichtswesens deutliche Überschneidungen auf. Damit lag es nahe, die Repositories für das Speichern des Protokolls zu vereinheitlichen. Endlich wird es im Bereich Auditing durch die Einführung eines Development Kits auch möglich sein, Systeme anzubinden, für die Oracle keine vorgefertigten Konnektoren / Kollektoren liefert. Mit der Zusammenlegung verbunden ist ein völlig neues Lizenzierungsmodell, das zu deutlichen Kostensenkungen für kleinere und mittlere Installationen führt.

  • APEX-Region "Karte" mit eigenen Karten ausstatten

    Seit der Version 4.0 bietet APEX den Diagrammtyp "Karte" an; dieser erlaubt die sehr einfache Integration von Karten in eine APEX-Anwendung. Die Darstellung der Karten basiert, wie für alle Diagrammtypen, auf AnyChart. APEX bietet zwar eine Vielfalt von verfügbaren Karten an, in der Praxis dürften diese jedoch selten ausreichen - zu verschieden sind die Anforderungen; für Deutschland werden nur zwei Karten angeboten.   • LOV-Basierte, dynamische Formular-Schnellauswahlen (Quick Picks)

    Schnellauswahlen (Quick Picks) gibt es bereits seit den Anfängen von Application Express. Im Application Builder werden Schnellauswahlen recht intensiv genutzt. Ein Klick auf die Schnellauswahl - und der Eintrag wird in der Auswahlliste sofort angewählt oder ins Textfeld gesetzt. Schnellauswahlen können auch in eigenen Anwendungen genutzt werden: Bei den Eigenschaften zu jedem Formularelement gibt es den Abschnitt Schnellauswahlen oder Quick Picks. Vom Endanwender häufiger gebrauchte Einträge eignen sich sehr gut zur Aufnahme in die Schnellauswahlen. Allerdings werden Schnellauswahlen stets als statische Einträge konfiguriert - das bringt einige Nachteile mit sich. Bei Änderungen muss stets der APEX-Entwickler aktiv werden Einträge können nicht wiederverwendet werden Als Trennzeichen wird stets ein Komma verwendet - das kann nicht beeinflusst werden Dynamisch generierte oder gar berechnete Einträge sind nur auf dem Umweg über ausgeblendete APEX Elemente möglich Dieser Tipp stellt ein APEX-Plugin vor, welches dynamische Schnellauswahlen, also Schnellauswahlen auf Basis einer Werteliste oder SQL-Abfrage, ermöglicht.

  • How to open a file or folder from Terminal

    I'd like to know if there is a way to open a file or a folder from terminal? When I wrote a URL LINK in terminal, it's allows me to open that link on my default browser. So I'd like to do the same with my files and folders. I know that there is a way via cli using gnome-open or xdg-open, but I'd like a solution that use mouse by clicking on the path or the url. Eg. When I write "pwd" the path allows me to click and open on Nautilus It's the inverse of what "nautilus-open-terminal" does.

    In part 5 of my series on the bin packing problem, I presented a method that sits somewhere in between the true row-by-row iterative characteristics of the first three parts and the truly set-based approach of the fourth part. I did use iteration, but each pass through the loop would use a set-based statement to process a lot of rows at once.   • Is there any way to lock down Photoshop to prevent designers from creating styles that cannot be rendered in CSS?

    Photoshop is a much more powerful design tool than CSS, and given free reign to design at will, designers will often tweak things like font settings to a degree that cannot be recreated on the web. Is there any way to lock down Photoshop, or perhaps run an equivalent of the Office 2010 "Compatability report" that shows the designer where they have designed something that cannot be rendered on a web page. Something like the old-school "web-safe" colour palette, but for an overall design.
