• Windows program to remove titlebar, frame, etc from a window?

  I like playing computer games in windowed mode, as opposed to full screen. I don't like staring at the title bar, frame, and other UI junk. I also don't like seeing other stuff on my desktop around the window. Is there a simple Windows program that will strip the UI chrome off of an arbitrary window from some other application? Extra points for an easy way to put a black screen underneath the window, hiding the desktop. Note: I'm looking specifically to handle windows that are smaller than my desktop size. There's a variety of 'windowed maximized' options that make a window exactly the desktop size, and positioned so all the UI decorations are off screen. (E.g.: ShiftWindow). I'm trying to strip all the decorations away from a window that's smaller than desktop size.

• Configure spamassassin to mark very similar messages as spam

  Users on my server have been receiving spam, consistently, for some time now. I have most of spamassassin's plugins enabled, and I have made sure to enable verbose logging, where I can see that all of the plugins are working. Why is it, then, that my users are able to receive the same exact junk mail several times in a day without the message being flagged in some way? Here are the relevant headers of an email that I personally have received several copies of: X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.3.1 (2010-03-16) on sub.domain.tld X-Spam-Level: *** X-Spam-Status: No, score=3.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_50,FSL_HELO_NON_FQDN_1, HELO_NO_DOMAIN,HTML_MESSAGE,RCVD_IN_BRBL_LASTEXT,RDNS_NONE autolearn=no version=3.3.1 Have I accidentally missed the plugin that can see that I, and others, have received the same message multiple times in a short period of time?

• Filtering semi-solicited spam

  While traditional UCE (get rich quick, enlarge your body parts, Nigerian barristers) are handled adequately, I'm still receiving a lot of not quite unsolicited spam. This is typically from commercial services forwarding "invites" from my "friends" and then "reminding" me of their services. Typical offenders are Facebook, Linkedin, dropbox, bebox, etc etc. (Of course, none of these services provide any way of opting out, except possibly by registering, which they will then take as an invitation to stuff your mailbox with even more crap) What is a good way to deal with these? I can of course junk them using procmail, but is it a better idea to e.g. bounce them, or at least send a reply informing the sender (and "friend") that I am not interested in their service nor their spam. Any solutions to this?

• How can I prevent Ask.com Toolbar from being installed every time Java is updated?

  As many are painfully aware of, Oracle continues to not only bundle the Java installation with the useless Internet browser toolbar from Ask.com, but also enable its installation by default. In addition to the toolbar, Ask also replaces your favourite search engine in your browser with Ask. Furthermore, the Java installation goes as far as to actually recommend installing this useless junk, meaning that any non IT-savvy person is more than likely to leave it checked and install it (after all, it was enabled by default and the friendly Java installer did recommend it, right?). To add insult to injury, even if you remove the Ask Toolbar, you can be sure to see it again soon, when the next Java update hits you (which seem to happen quite often lately, due to loads of security fixes for Java, but that's another story). I'll duly remove the check-mark to install Ask Toolbar, whenever I update Java, but when supporting my family and friends, it's obvious they don't. How can I prevent the pesky Ask.com Toolbar from being installed in the first place?

• Simple dig output?

  In a script I want to be able to write an IP address to somewhere easily, so I thought using dig (or a similar command) with back-ticks. However the simplest output I've been able to come up to wrt dig parameters is > dig -t A +noall +answer www.google.com www.google.com. 300 IN A 173.194.66.106 www.google.com. 300 IN A 173.194.66.104 Any way (extra arg, different tool instead of dig?) to get rid of the junk apart from the IP address?? (And please don't tell me to use sed.) Thanks

• Messages going missing from Apple mailboxes

  A colleague has noticed random messages being deleted from her Apple Mailboxes. e.g. Message sent to client - client replies - original message nowhere to be found. Not in sent items/sent messages/junk/trash. No rules set up. Have tried rebuilding mailboxes but message doesn't show up. Quite worrying really as it was only noticed by chance so don't know how long/how widespread it is. Mail is controlled by Exchange 2003 server. • Forwarding Emails From Inbox Only

  I have a forward setup on one of our public facing email addresses to a few users outside of our system (to an external address). Seeing as it's public (printed on a website in plain text), we get TONS of spam on that account. We're being marked as a SPAM source due to the forwarding by the external system. We have pretty aggressive IMF (Intelligent Message Filtering) setup, and it works great for internal messages. The problem we're facing is that Exchange is forwarding ALL the email received on that account, and not just the messages that pass the IMF (and don't get pushed into Junk). As far as I can tell, there's no way to adjust the IMF settings for that one account. And as far as I can tell, there's no way to setup folder forwarding (inbox - external address) from Exchange. Is there something I'm missing or is there any way around these issues that I may be missing? Thanks...

• Automatically cycle numerous or large files to the trash

  I've been tasked with fixing a vendor's program that, under certain conditions, dumps gigs of junk files into a log directory. It ends up filling users' machines. My task is to figure out how to make it stop without any source code or additional running processes, and without making the program kasplode. In other words, I'm looking to use a feature of the file system to control the growth. One idea I had was to make a hard link from that folder to NUL, as you might with /dev/null in the linux world. However, my attempts to use the mklink program to create a junction result in a message that says Local volumes are required to complete the operation. Any ideas on how to complete the junction, or other ideas to solve the problem?

• Best way to monitor host

  I have just set up a host which receives messages from 300b to 1500b (wrapped stx etx)and replies with the same. It works fine but some times it receives junk data. Is there anyway to monitor this out of band data just so we can make sure we are not receiving massive amounts of it. Also is it possible to monitor if connections time out - where the host did not reply in time or long connections where it takes the host 20 seconds to reply when it normally takes 5. I am aware of IP monitor but I don't think it covers enough - Is there anything else or any other way? Thanks in advance!

• If i make a mail server can i send bulk email?

  I work for a small company and we have fallen into the fad of "email campains" a.k.a Junk mail. So far the company has gotten a subscriber list from our website, and paid a good chunk of change for a emailer program. The problem is, Our list has close to 4,000 people on it and growing. with gmail only allowing 100 emails per account through on SMTP and I am on a tight budget so I cant hire anyone else. I was thinking of doing a dedicated mail server off of the website server we have running in the office. Is it possible? to make emails on your own server, and then send it through your own SMTP? if it is, what software would I need and is if free or low cost at least. We run a WAMP server, i set it up just for information, but i could switch it to lamp or whatever if need be. Thank you for your time and youre answers

• Offlineimap -- push changes to all folders; only pull from INBOX folder

  I would like to be able to set up offlineimap to do the following Sync Remote/INBOX - Local Sync Local/Maildirs/* - Remote Possible? The use case here is: I download all new mail from my remote IMAP INBOX folder with offlineimap. offlineimap's posthook command calls a custom python script which does junk filtering, then sorts and categorizes my mail in the local INBOX folder to various local maildirs based on sender, etc. I read my mail with mutt and perhaps do some more categorization. ? Step 4 is what I'm after. I want offlineimap to push my local changes (categorization, filtering, deletion in the case of spam) back to the various folders on the imap server, but as you can see, there's no need for me to be pulling any changes from folders other than Remote/INBOX, as no changes happen on the IMAP server itself. I hope that's a clear explanation of the problem.

• How to prevent HP Photosmart Essential from launching on removal drive insertion

  My in-laws bought an HP computer loaded with HP junk, and it's giving me a headache. When they insert a camera memory card into their printer, the Auto-Play dialog comes up, but it also launches the HP Photosmart Essential application, which is a piece of trash. It will NOT launch properly just normally from the taskbar, so that makes it pretty useless. I tried uninstalling it, but then when you insert a memory card, a Microsoft Help window comes up saying how to reinstall HP Photosmart Essential!! Is there any way to find the registry key (I assume) that allows a program to be launched when a memory card is inserted?

• Can irssi ignore the 24h dsl-reconnect

  A couple of weeks ago I had to switch my ISP from cable to DSL. Now I have this ridiculous disconnect and reconnect every 24h. It's no big deal insofar as having a new IP address every day, but for one exception. Since I host my irssi screen on a machine inside the LAN, my history gets affected by the reconnect in terms of a topic announcement, the users in each channel, creation date and so on. It's about 10 lines of redundant content every day. This is annoying especially in channels with very little traffic, because you hardly see the actual content in line with the every-day-junk. So I was wondering if I can tell irssi to silently ignore the reconnection details, so that my only meta-content in each channel goes back to "Day changed to ...", like back in the days of cable-internet.

• Remove DRM From a WMV file I own

  Alright, first, let me explain. I purchased some content through Microsoft's Zune/Xbox Video service, and man that was a mistake. After trying several times to get the video to play, I received an error along the lines of "out of licenses." Lucky for me, I was able to recover the file I was looking for off of a backup, but now I'm having problems playing it. It works fine in Windows Media Player, but not in Zune or Xbox Video (on Windows 8). I contacted Zune's customer support, and of course they couldn't help me. So, I legally own the content, I just want to be able to play it where I want to play it. It's ridiculous that I can't. I know there are ways to do this out there, I just can't figure it out (I keep getting directed to this piece of junk thing called Almedia, which kind of seems to work, but was only putting out audio in the demo version). • Apply email retention policy to Inbox but not subfolders?

  Our official email policy states that email older than 90 days in the Inbox is moved to Deleted Items, not including subfolders of the Inbox. This wasn't a problem to implement in Exchange 2003. In 2010, however, it appears that Policy Tags applied to the Inbox also apply to its subfolders. How can I prevent this from occuring? • Cannot "add to address book" in thunderbird on mac. Know a workaround?

  Runing TB 24.5.0 on Mac 10.8.5. I configure TB so that File-"Use Mac OS X Address Book" is not selected. Can open Address Book and see addresses in "COllected Addresses" & create New contact there. But in TB cannot "add to address book". I click on star to right of email address or ctrl-click correspondent and "add to address book". Nothing happens. But correspondent should be added to (some) address book. This is a major inconvenience because I use the address book to distinguish between junk mail from people who I do not know and good mail from people who I do know. Currently the only way for me to add anybody to the address book is to do so by hand, one at a time in "collected addresses". I welcome any work around that would let me add somebody to an address book with a single click. Thanks

• Make the recycle bin of the SSD on a RAID0 drive?

  I don't know about you folks, but I hate the idea of junk sitting on my tiny 30GB SSD. Any way to designate another drive to be the host of the Recycle Bin for items formerly on the SSD? Basically, I need to know how to make a lower-priority drive receive the recycled materials from the 'main' drive, which happens to be short on space. The best thing I can think of is a batch file that a) syncs 'recycle' to another drive; and b) empties the recycle bin. ... but that's too much work for me.

• Microsoft mouse screws up my power settings

  Running a new computer with Windows 7 and 64-bit OS. Had a wireless Logitech mouse that worked perfectly with this set up. The mouse was old, and the buttons were sticking and causing double clicks, so I bought a new Microsoft Mobile Wireless 3000 mouse to replace it. The new mouse works perfectly, but now my screen saver is disabled and my computer won't go into sleep mode after 15 minutes as per my power setting. If I hook the Logitech mouse back up, screen saver works fine and computer goes to sleep as it should. Am I missing something, or is Microsoft's mouse just junk. Got no software with the new mouse, so no drivers seem available.

• Script/scheduled task to clean up Dowloads folder (Windows 7)?

  My downloads folder is my primary connection to the internet (and thus the world), and has rapidly become a virtual junk drawer. I imagine I'm not alone here. What I'd like to do is have some sort of a script that -creates a new folder (named YYYY_MM Archive so it sorts nicely) -takes everything* inside of the Downloads folder (for the current user) -moves it to the new folder and have this run once/month. *(excluding previous archives) This strikes me as the type of thing Saw some answers on related questions that seemed to suggest that this is an eminently doable task in PowerShell. Is it? I'm on Windows 7 Enterprise.

• Cleaning cruft from the stored configs database

  I have setup stored configuration primarily as a method to manage my ssh known_hosts. Unfortunately as I retire hosts the old configs still exist in my database. The answer seems to be run the command puppet node clean <hostname>. The problem is that while this does command does run, and does clean up some data, it doesn't seem to clean up everything. For example I can still find values in the puppet_tags table that only applied to a hosts that no longer exists. What should I be doing to keep my stored configuration database clean of all extra junk that seems to be building up? P.S. Can anyone point me any documentation for the stored configuration schema?  If I could find good documentation, or at least an entity-relationship-diagram, I would be tempted to just do some manual clean-up.

  Possible Duplicate: Prevent mail being marked as spam I have an Ubuntu server that I want to be able to send out several thousand emails each containing a generic header and an unique pdf attachment containing an invoice. What I want to know is what would be the best way to accomplish this? Also, are there any other programs I need to install such as anti-virus / verification tools? I would like to be able to know what the procedures for this normally are as I would prefer that the emails are not send to the junk folder of the clients receiving the emails.   Are you frustrated that you can not minimize Windows Live Mail to the system tray in Windows 7? With just a few tweaks you can make Live Mail minimize to the system tray just like in earlier versions of Windows. Windows Live Mail in Windows Vista In Windows Vista you could minimize Windows Live Mail to the system tray if desired using the context menu… Windows Live Mail in Windows 7 In Windows 7 you can minimize the app window but not hide it in the system tray. The Hide window when minimized menu entry is missing from the context menu and all you have is the window icon taking up space in your taskbar. How to Add the Context Menu Entry Back Right click on the program shortcut(s) and select properties. When the properties window opens click on the compatibility tab and enable the Run this program in compatibility mode for setting. Choose Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) from the drop-down menu and click OK. Once you have restarted Windows Live Mail you will have access to the Hide window when minimized menu entry again. And just like that your taskbar is clear again when Windows Live Mail is minimized. If you have wanted the ability to minimize Windows Live Mail to the system tray in Windows 7 then this little tweak will fix the problem.
