• ildasm and dynamic exe files

  Hi There, I am trying to create an application can modify properties in IL to create a slightly different executable. E.g Client A runs app and a label on the WinForm label Reads "Client A:". Client B runs the app and Label Says "Client B". Easy I know using config files or resource files but thats not an option for this project. The Main program needs to be able to generate .exe file dynamically based on some form fields entered by user. My solution was to create a standalone executable that contained all the elements which I needed to make dynamic. I then used ildasm to generate the IL and thought that I could use this IL and substitute tags for the elements i wanted to make dynamic. I could then replace those tags at runtime after user filled the form using regex etc. The problem is, the if i re save the IL file generated by ILDASM as an exe and try to run it. I just launches console and does nothing. Am I going about this the wrong way? I didnt want to delve into Reflection as the dynamic .exe is a really simple one and I thought reverse engineering IL with ildasm would be the quickest way. You thoughts and pointers are much appreciated. Tony

• Cross-browser padding/margins

  Hi All, I was wondering if you could give me some helpful hints on how to correct this issue? I have a main menu on my site, the code for it is as follows: li:hover { background-color: #222222; padding-top: 8px; padding-bottom: 9px; } And here's a demo of what it actually looks like: The problem is that when I hover over a menu option (li), the background appears, but it overflows to the outside of the menu's background, and makes it look really dodgy/crap/cheap/yuck! Note that (obviously) when I change the padding to make it display correctly in these browsers, it appears too small in height in IE! So I'm screwed either way. How can I make little imperfections like this look the same in all browsers? • nginx with passenger

  Hello, I'm trying to move from Apache + Passenger to Nginx + passenger on my Ubuntu Lucid Lynx box. When I install passenger, sudo gem install passenger and cd /var/lib/gems/1.9.1/gems/passenger-2.2.14/bin sudo ./passenger-install-nginx-module everything is fine (no error). Nginx is downloaded / compiled and installed at the same time (when selecting the first option during passenger installation). By default it is installed in /opt/nginx. I end up with the configuration file /opt/nginx/conf/nginx.conf (this conf file was automatically updated with passenger config). The thing I do not understand is that I also have the configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf... what is the purpose of this one when it seems that the conf file in /opt/... is the main one ? When I run /etc/init.d/nginx start, it starts correclty saying that /etc/nginx/nginx.conf is ok... Does it mean that it does not check the other conf file ? I have updated /etc/init.d/nginx script and add /opt/nginx/sbin at the beginning of the PATH and it seems the correct conf file is taken into account. It seems like I have 2 nginx installations where I only relied on passenger to install it... Thanks a lot for your help, I am kind of lost here :) Luc

• Can't get past 2542 Threads in Java on 4GB iMac OSX 10.6.3 Snow Leopard (32bit)

  I am running the following program trying to figure out how to configure my JVM to get the maximum number of threads my machine can support. For those that might not know, Snow Leopard ships with Java 6. • Making one of a group of similar form fields required in CakePHP

  I have a bunch of name/email fields in my form like this: data[Friend][0][name] data[Friend][1][name] data[Friend][2][name] etc. and data[Friend][0][email] data[Friend][1][email] data[Friend][2][email] etc. I have a custom validation rule on each one that checks to see if the corresponding field is filled in. Ie. if data[Friend][2][name] then data[Friend][2][email] MUST be filled in. FYI, heres what one of the two rules look like: My form validation rule: ( I have an email validation too but that's irrelevant here) 'name' => array( 'checkEmail' => array( 'rule' => 'hasEmail', 'message' => 'You must fill in the name field', 'last' => true ) ) My custom rule code: function hasEmail($data){ $name = array_values($data); $name = $name[0]; if(strlen($name) == 0){ return empty($this->data['Friend']['email']); } return true; } I need to make it so that one of the pairs should be filled in as a minimum. It can be any as long as the indexes correspond. I can't figure a way, as if I set the form rule to be required or allowEmpty false, it fails on ALL empty fields. How can I check for the existence of 1 pair and if present, carry on? Also, I need to strip out all of the remaining empty [Friend] fields, so my saveAll() doesn't save a load of empty rows, but I think I can handle that part using extract in my controller. • How to bind a table in a dataset to a WPF datagrid in C# and XAML

  I have been searching to hours for something very simple: bind a WPF datagrid to a datatable in order to see the columns at design-time. I can’t get any of the examples to work for me. Here is the C# code to populate the datatable InfoWork inside the dataset info: info = new Info(); InfoTableAdapters.InfoWorkTableAdapter adapter = new InfoTableAdapters.InfoWorkTableAdapter(); adapter.Fill(info.InfoWork); The problem is no matter how I declare ‘info’ or ‘infoWork’ Visual Studio/XAML can’t find it. I have tried: <Window.Resources> <ObjectDataProvider x:Key="infoWork" ObjectType="{x:Type local:info}" /> </Window.Resources> I have also tried this example from wpf.codeplex, but XAML doesn’t even like the “local:” keyword! <Window.Resources> <local:info x:Key="infoWork"/> </Window.Resources> There are really two main questions here: 1) How do I declare the table InfoWork in C# so that XAML can see it? I tried declaring it Public in the window class that XAML exists in with no success. 2) How do I declare the windows resource in XAML, specifcally the datatable inside the dataset? Out of curiosity, is there a reason that ItemsSource just doesn't show up as a property that be set in the properties design window?

  Hi people. I have a question about reflection I am trying to have some kind of eval() method. So i can call for example: eval("test('woohoo')"); Now I understand the there is no eval method in java but there is reflection. I made the following code: String s = "test"; Class cl = Class.forName("Main"); Method method = cl.getMethod(s, String.class); method.invoke(null, "woohoo"); This works perfectly (of course there is a try, catch block around this code). It runs the test method. However I want to call multiple methods who all have different parameters. I don't know what parameters these are (so not only String.class). But how is this possible? how can I get the parameter types of a method ? I know of the following method: Class[] parameterTypes = method.getParameterTypes(); But that will return the parameterTypes of the method I just selected! with the following statement: Method method = cl.getMethod(s, String.class); Any help would be appreciated !

• Make seems to think a prerequisite is an intermediate file, removes it

  For starters, this exercise in GNU make was admittedly just that: an exercise rather than a practicality, since a simple bash script would have sufficed. However, it brought up interesting behavior I don't quite understand. I've written a seemingly simple Makefile to handle generation of SSL key/cert pairs as necessary for MySQL. My goal was for make <name> to result in <name>-key.pem, <name>-cert.pem, and any other necessary files (specifically, the CA pair if any of it is missing or needs updating, which leads into another interesting follow-up exercise of handling reverse deps to reissue any certs that had been signed by a missing/updated CA cert). After executing all rules as expected, make seems to be too aggressive at identifying intermediate files for removal; it removes a file I thought would be "safe" since it should have been generated as a prereq to the main rule I'm invoking. (Humbly translated, I likely have misinterpreted make's documented behavior to suit my expectation, but don't understand how. ;-) Edited (thanks, Chris!) Adding %-cert.pem to .PRECIOUS does, of course, prevent the deletion. (I had been using the wrong syntax.) • Boost Spirit and Lex parser problem

  I've been struggling to try and (incrementally) modify example code from the documentation but with not much different I am not getting the behavior I expect. Specifically, the "if" statement fails when (my intent is that) it should be passing (there was an "else" but that part of the parser was removed during debugging). The assignment statement works fine. I had a "while" statement as well which had the same problem as the "if" statement so I am sure if I can get help to figure out why one is not working it should be easy to get the other going.   I have an ASP.NET MVC application which I want to dynamically pick the partial view and what data gets passed to it, while maintaining strong types. So, in the main form, I want a class that has a view model that contains a generically typed property which should contain the data for the partial view's view model. public class MainViewModel<T> { public T PartialViewsViewModel { get; set; } } In the User Control, I would like something like: Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<MainViewModel<ParticularViewModel>>" %> Though in my parent form, I must put Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<MainViewModel<ParticularViewModel>>" %> for it to work. Is there a way to work around this? The use case is to make the user control pluggable. I understand that I could inherit a base class, but that would put me back to having something like a dictionary instead of a typed view model.

• UIView Controller mysteriously getting deallocated

  I have a UINavigation scheme with a "welcome" page, a middle page, and a detail page. In the middle page, there's a segmented controller that can swap the main body of that page between a table, a calendar, and a MKMapView, each implemented with their own view controller classes. Today I implemented the MapView and its annotations and all of that. It's nice. And a detail disclosure on each callout takes you to the detail page just the same way as if you'd gotten there via the table. Lovely. I also have a right-button-bar button that pushes in a "search" view. From there you can search the data I'm navigating. When it's done filtering the data (an array of objects I'm keeping in a data singleton), it makes the table reload its data, and calls my annotation-clearer-and-builder methods on the map view, and then pops itself out, so the "middle" page (including whatever view was in the guts of it) is back on the screen. Problem is, if I go back and forth between the map and the search a couple times, any mention of the table view causes us to crash with: *** -[CALayer retain]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x710b810. (I obviously have NSZombies turned on.) I put an NSLog in the dealloc method of my table view controller. That thing's never getting called. I don't know if we're ditching it behind the scenes for memory purposes, or if I'm leaking it and can't get my hands back on it, or what. I'm sort of at a loss about where to look. Any hints?

I was looking at some examples online and couldnt figure our if i shud use Action or Func delegates for this. Both look similar but im unable to get a clear idea how to implement this. • How can I position some divs inside an unordered list so they line up with the root element of the l

  I want to position all the divs to line up to the left on the same x coordinate so it looks nice. Notice the picture below, how based on the number of nested categories the div (and its contents) show up at slightly different x coordinates. I need to have the div's line up at exactly the same x coordinate no matter how deeply nested. Note, the bottom most category always has a div for the content, but that div has to be situated inside the last < li . I am using an unordered list to display the menu and thought the best solution would be to grab the root category (Cat 2, and mCat1) and obtain their left offset using jquery, then simply use that value to update the positioning of the div...but I couldn't seem to get it to work just right. I would appreciate any advice or help that you are willing to give. • Is it possible to write a class that interacts with controls on my WPF form?

  Hi all, I'm trying to write a class that I can use to interact with a group of similar controls in my wpf application. I have hit a few roadblocks and now I am wondering if this is a poor approach to begin with. I want to do this primarily to make my code more manageable - I have to interact with around 200 - 300 controls with my code, and it could get very tricky to have all my code in the main window class. Here's something I'd like to be able to do: class ProcControl { private CheckBox * [] Boxes = new CheckBox[10]; ProcControl() { //set boxes 0-9 to point to the actual checkboxes } //provides mass checking/unchecking functionality public void Refactor(CheckBox box) { //see what box it is int box_index = 0; while (Boxes[box_index] != box) { box_index++; } } } This doesn't work as it is right now. I have not figured out how to get my Boxes[] array to point to the actual checkboxes on my form, so I can't interact with them yet. Is it even possible to make an array that points to a bunch of controls so that I may process their properties in a nice manner? Why can't I access the controls at all from inside my class?

• Which Java Framework is best suited for a web application with reusable content/behavior

  I come from a .NET background and need to do a web project in Java. I have read a bit on all the different Java web frameworks out there: JSF, Stripes, Wicket, Tapestry etc. But I would like to hear from people with real-life expertise with these frameworks. Of course I want a framework that is up to date, supports AJAX, is cool and so on, but one of my main criteria is the ability to somehow create reusable components / tags. The customer needs to be able to move tags/components around without too much problem in order to customize it for their specific needs. In ASP.NET Webforms I would use custom controls and user controls for this, and in ASP.NET MVC I would use user controls as well as home made custom controls. So what Java frameworks excel in this? My own superficial research seems to conclude that JSF supports some kind of custom controls (Bear in mind i am not only talking about layout reuse, but also behavior reuse, so if for example the customer / client wants a customer list on page x and not only on page Y, he would simply put in a <jr:CustomerList runat="server" .... /> (fictional example with ASP.NET Webforms syntax)).
