• nvcc not found, but only when using sudo

  I can't get ANYTHING working on linux. • Google-bot sees “Sorry, we have no imagery here” on pages with Google Maps

  I have a site with Google Maps on most of the pages. When inspecting content keywords in Google Webmaster tools, content keywords identified by Google-bot for the site include "imagery", "sorry" and "here". These turn out to be part of an error message returned by Google Maps: "Sorry, we have no imagery here". I cannot reproduce this error with normal clients, nor does "fetch as Google" show it. The problem is presumably that Google-bot tries to execute some of the Google Maps Javascript but then shoots itself on the foot and records the error message. A Google search for "Sorry, we have no imagery here" shows that this problem is endemic to sites across the internet, including Yelp and many others. I'd like to convince Google that my site is not about imagery and being sorry, but I'd also like to keep the maps in place. I guess one option would be to transition to static maps, but that's not a great alternative. There's some related discussion on Webmaster World, no resolution.

• Cant correctly install Lazarus

  I have a little problem with installing and running Lazarus. I just upgrade ubuntu from 13.04 to 13.10. When i had 13.04, i could install lazarus without any problems, but in 13.10 lazarus magicaly dissapeared, and when i tried install it from ubuntu software center, it said something like in my software resources lazarus-ide-0.9.30.4 doesnt exist. After some research on net i tried delete all files from earlier installations, download deb packages from sourceforge and install them, but when i want to instal fpc-src, error shows up with output: (Reading database ... 100% (Reading database ... 239063 files and directories currently installed.) • 3dsmax crashes when exporting

  I'm trying to export a (.max) file to openCOLLADA (.dae). Whenever I do this, 3dsmax crashes and produces this error: An error has occurred and the application will now close. No scene changes have occurred since your last save. 3dsmax then crashes but the COLLADA file is still produced. Whenever I try opening this COLLADA file in other software though, it comes up with a bad mesh data error. This is leading me to think that it wasn't exported correctly out of 3dsmax. Any advice?

• Big Data – Buzz Words: Importance of Relational Database in Big Data World – Day 9 of 21

  In yesterday’s blog post we learned what is HDFS. In this article we will take a quick look at the importance of the Relational Database in Big Data world. A Big Question? Here are a few questions I often received since the beginning of the Big Data Series - Does the relational database have no space in the story of the Big Data? Does relational database is no longer relevant as Big Data is evolving? Is relational database not capable to handle Big Data? Is it true that one no longer has to learn about relational data if Big Data is the final destination? Well, every single time when I hear that one person wants to learn about Big Data and is no longer interested in learning about relational database, I find it as a bit far stretched. I am not here to give ambiguous answers of It Depends. I am personally very clear that one who is aspiring to become Big Data Scientist or Big Data Expert they should learn about relational database. NoSQL Movement The reason for the NoSQL Movement in recent time was because of the two important advantages of the NoSQL databases. Performance Flexible Schema In personal experience I have found that when I use NoSQL I have found both of the above listed advantages when I use NoSQL database. There are instances when I found relational database too much restrictive when my data is unstructured as well as they have in the datatype which my Relational Database does not support. It is the same case when I have found that NoSQL solution performing much better than relational databases. I must say that I am a big fan of NoSQL solutions in the recent times but I have also seen occasions and situations where relational database is still perfect fit even though the database is growing increasingly as well have all the symptoms of the big data. Situations in Relational Database Outperforms Adhoc reporting is the one of the most common scenarios where NoSQL is does not have optimal solution. For example reporting queries often needs to aggregate based on the columns which are not indexed as well are built while the report is running, in this kind of scenario NoSQL databases (document database stores, distributed key value stores) database often does not perform well. In the case of the ad-hoc reporting I have often found it is much easier to work with relational databases. SQL is the most popular computer language of all the time. I have been using it for almost over 10 years and I feel that I will be using it for a long time in future. There are plenty of the tools, connectors and awareness of the SQL language in the industry. Pretty much every programming language has a written drivers for the SQL language and most of the developers have learned this language during their school/college time. In many cases, writing query based on SQL is much easier than writing queries in NoSQL supported languages. I believe this is the current situation but in the future this situation can reverse when No SQL query languages are equally popular. ACID (Atomicity Consistency Isolation Durability) – Not all the NoSQL solutions offers ACID compliant language. There are always situations (for example banking transactions, eCommerce shopping carts etc.) where if there is no ACID the operations can be invalid as well database integrity can be at risk. Even though the data volume indeed qualify as a Big Data there are always operations in the application which absolutely needs ACID compliance matured language. The Mixed Bag I have often heard argument that all the big social media sites now a days have moved away from Relational Database. Actually this is not entirely true. While researching about Big Data and Relational Database, I have found that many of the popular social media sites uses Big Data solutions along with Relational Database. Many are using relational databases to deliver the results to end user on the run time and many still uses a relational database as their major backbone. Here are a few examples: Facebook uses MySQL to display the timeline. (Reference Link) Twitter uses MySQL. (Reference Link) Tumblr uses Sharded MySQL (Reference Link) Wikipedia uses MySQL for data storage. (Reference Link) There are many for prominent organizations which are running large scale applications uses relational database along with various Big Data frameworks to satisfy their various business needs. Summary I believe that RDBMS is like a vanilla ice cream. Everybody loves it and everybody has it. NoSQL and other solutions are like chocolate ice cream or custom ice cream – there is a huge base which loves them and wants them but not every ice cream maker can make it just right  for everyone’s taste. No matter how fancy an ice cream store is there is always plain vanilla ice cream available there. Just like the same, there are always cases and situations in the Big Data’s story where traditional relational database is the part of the whole story. In the real world scenarios there will be always the case when there will be need of the relational database concepts and its ideology. It is extremely important to accept relational database as one of the key components of the Big Data instead of treating it as a substandard technology. Ray of Hope – NewSQL In this module we discussed that there are places where we need ACID compliance from our Big Data application and NoSQL will not support that out of box. There is a new termed coined for the application/tool which supports most of the properties of the traditional RDBMS and supports Big Data infrastructure – NewSQL. • NVIDIA graphics driver on Macbook Pro 10,1

  I just installed 14.04 over my old 12.04 partition on my Macbook Pro 10,1 (which is dual-booting with OS X) by following the instructions here. The only difference is that I'm using rEFInd instead of rEFIt. The proprietary NVIDIA drivers worked great with 12.04, but now I'm unable to boot into Unity with it in 14.04. Generally, I just get a black screen after the Grub menu, though occasionally I get some kind of panic screen like this, where I see errors like: [drm: __gen6_gt_force_wake_mt_get] *ERROR* Timed out waiting for forcewake old ack to clear. [drm: __gen6_gt_wait_for_thread_c0] *ERROR* GT thread status wait timed out [drm: __intel_ring_setup_status_page] *ERROR* render ring: wait for SyncFlush to complete for TLB invalidation timed out etc. Using the nouveau drivers works fine, but everything feels sluggish so I would really like to get the NVIDIA drivers working. Has anyone successfully gotten the NVIDIA drivers working with the GT-650M Mac Edition?

  While trying to install deluge 1.3.3 (I need this specific version) I get an error. I install all the needed packages through sudo apt-get install g++ make python-all-dev python-all python-dbus \ python-gtk2 python-notify librsvg2-common python-xdg python-support \ subversion libboost-dev libboost-python-dev \ libboost-thread-dev libboost-date-time-dev libboost-filesystem-dev \ libssl-dev zlib1g-dev python-setuptools \ python-mako python-twisted-web python-chardet python-simplejson I then build it $ python setup.py build and $ sudo python setup.py install then I get a long list at the end of which there is the error /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lboost_iostreams collect2: ld returned 1 exit status error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1 Can you help me out with this?

• How can I get ddclient to work with freedns?

  I use the dynamic DNS service at freedns.afraid.org for my 12.04 server. I had assumed that the protocols would be standardised and that ddclient would just work, but apparently not. I get this message in /var/log/syslog: ERROR: Invalid update URL (2): unexpected status () I tried to use the updated version of ddclient from the alternative PPA described in this answer, but then I hit this error: FATAL: Error loading the Perl module Digest::SHA1 needed for freedns update. FATAL: On Debian, the package libdigest-sha1-perl must be installed. And when I try to install that package, I get this: E: Unable to locate package libdigest-sha1-perl Which leads me to this bug report, which apparently has no solution. How to proceed?

• Adobe Reader issue in Ubuntu 13.10

  I have downloaded adobe reader 9.5.5 and installed it using gdebi.Now if I click on any pdf it is not starting.I tried "acroread" in terminal and it is showing me this error /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/bin/acroread: error while loading shared libraries: libxml2.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Then I have installed libxml2.But still it is showing the same above error. My system OS is ubuntu 13.10. Is there any solution to my problem for using Adobe reader or any other alternative pdf reader other than foxit and default(evince) or okular by using which I can highlight any text in my pdf?

I'm running Kubuntu 11.10, so I did: sudo aptitude install apache2 mysql-server php5 php5-mysql php5-cli And I also fetched the latest mediawiki to: /home/boris/Its/sites/mediawiki-1.17.0 Now I'm supposed to open http://localhost/home/boris/Its/sites/mediawiki-1.17.0/index.php But firefox says the page is not found. While http://localhost works. If I get it right - I have to open index.php to install mediawiki. So my question is - what do I do wrong? I'm really sorry for this is might be a very simple question. By the way do I have to make a db beforehand? Is it possible to use mongoDB as a db with mediawiki?

  I reformatted my Win "C" drive and loaded Ubuntu 11.04. The second internal HD of course is not read. It is shown in 'disk utility'. I try to mount it in disk utility but I get an error message error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: according to mtab, /dev/sda1 is already mounted on / One problem I see is the error relates to sda1, but I am trying to mount sdb. • What is causing the unusual high load average and IOwait?

  I noticed on Tuesday night of last week, the load average went up sharply and it seemed abnormal since the traffic is small. Usually, the numbers usually average around .40 or lower and my server stuff (mysql, php and apache) are optimized.   PowerShell Try Catch Finally I am a relative novice to PowerShell and tried (pun intended) to use the “Try Catch Finally” in my scripts. Alas the structure that we love and use in C# (or even – shudder of shudders - in VB) does not always work in PowerShell. It turns out that it works only when the error is a terminating error (whatever that means). Well, you can turn all your errors to the terminating kind by simply setting - $ErrorActionPreference = "Stop", And later resetting it back to “Continue”, which is its normal setting. Now, the lazy approach is to start all your scripts with: $ErrorActionPreference = "Stop" And ending all of them with: $ErrorActionPreference = "Continue" But this opens you to trouble because should your script have an error that you neglected to catch (it even happens to me!), your session will now have all its errors as “terminating”. Obviously this is not a good thing, so instead let’s put these two setups in the beginning of each Try block and in the Finally block as seen below: That’s All Folks!!

  Can I do filename pattern matching in a bash script? "test" is a directory with the following files ... bob@bob-laptop:~/test$ ls exclude exclude1 exclude2 include1 include2 from the command line, if I want to exclude some of the files, I can do ... bob@bob-laptop:~/test$ echo !(exclude*) include1 include2 but, if I put that command in a script (named exclude) ... bob@bob-laptop:~/test$ cat exclude echo !(exclude*) when I execute it, I get an error ... bob@bob-laptop:~/test$ ./exclude ./exclude: line 1: syntax error near unexpected token (' ./exclude: line 1:echo !(exclude*)' I've tried every (I think) variation of escaping some, all or none of the special characters and I still get an error. What am I missing here? If I can't do this, would someone please be so kind as to explain why?
