  • creating a table based on fields from three different tables

    Hi, I am using MS-Access 2003. I have three tables containing values of w,Q and L. In the Q table I have three fields: country_name, ISIC_code, and Q value. In the L table, there are three fields, country_name, ISIC_code, and L value. And in the w table there are two fields; country_name and w value. Country_names, and ISIC_code might be different for each table. What I want to do is create a new table with the values b(j)=w(i)L(ij)/Q(ij), where i is the country and j is the ISIC_code. So first I will check if the country name and ISIC_code are the same in L and Q tables. If they are equal I will calculate L/Q and then multiply this with w value of the same country if it exists. I appreciate any help.

    I have a View that renders something like this: "Item 1" and "Item 2" are <tr> elements from a table. After the user change "Value 1" or "Value 2" I would like to call a Controller and put the result (some HTML snippet) in the div marked as "Result of...". I have some vague notions of JQuery. I know how to bind to the onchage event of the Select element, and call the $.ajax() function, for example. But I wonder if this can be achieved in a more efficient way in ASP.NET MVC2.

My approach: user X have an account at the existing Rails app. With these login data the user X should authenticate on my Rails app. The existing app offers a gem to connect to the API after login. Whats the best method to store the information about a successful login? Should i use sessions? Or does Rails offer better methods for this?

  • problem with a very simple tile based game

    Hello, I am trying to create a pacman-like game. I have an array that looks like this: array: 1111111111111 1000000000001 1111110111111 1000000000001 1111111111111 1 = Wall, 0 = Empty space I use this array to draw tiles that are 16x16 in size. The Game character is 32x32. Initially I represented the character's position in array indexes, [1,1] etc. I would update his position if array[character.new_y][charater.new_x] == 0 Then I translated these array coordinates to pixels, [y*16, x*16] to draw him. He was lining up nicely, wouldn't go into walls, but I noticed that since I was updating him by 16 pixels each, he was moving very fast. I decided to do it in reverse, to store the game character's position in pixels instead, so that he could use less than 16 pixels per move. I thought that a simple if statement such as this: if array[(character.new_pixel_y)/16][(character.new_pixel_x)/16] == 0 would prevent him from going into walls, but unfortunately he eats a bit of the bottom and right side walls. Any ideas how would I properly translate pixel position to the array indexes? I guess this is something simple, but I really can't figure it out :(

    I had read a lot of post from the web, but I still cannot find out how can I make this out. Please help me in detail. I need to make a split-view inside a navigation because I need to make a login system. After login, then we can see the split view. I found that someone say must need to set it to be root view, some say do not need. However I cannot do it in both way. Can anyone teach me how to do that step by step??     Here is what I'm trying to accomplish. I have an object coming back from the database with a string description. This description can be up to 1000 characters long, but we only want to display a short view of this. So I coded up the following, but I'm having trouble in actually removing the number of words after the regular expression finds the total count of words. Does anyone have good way of dispalying the words which are less than the Regex.Matches?     For event handling, I am starting to see many coders doing this: XButton.Click += OnXButtonClicked() ... void OnXButtonClicked() { ... } Where did this On_ convention come from? It just doesn't feel right in terms of methods. I am starting to see this as well and am wondering what others thought: XButton.Click += HandleXButtonClick() ... void HandleXButtonClick() { ... } When using intellisense, Visual Studio handles these like so: XButton.Click += XButton_Click; ... void XButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { ... } I am seeking some advice on these naming conventions and would greatly appreciate some advice.

  • How can I change ruby log level in unit tests based on context

    I'm new to ruby so forgive me if this is simple or I get some terminology wrong. I've got a bunch of unit tests (actually they're integration tests for another project, but they use ruby test/unit) and they all include from a module that sets up an instance variable for the log object. When I run the individual tests I'd like log.level to be debug, but when I run a suite I'd like log.level to be error. Is it possible to do this with the approach I'm taking, or does the code need to be restructured? Here's a small example of what I have so far.     I have two strings: $first = '/this/is/a/string'; $second = '/this/:param1/a/:param2'; And I'm trying to get this: $params = array('param1' => 'is', 'param2' => 'string'); But getting from point a to b is proving more than my tired brain can handle at the moment. Anything starting with a ':' in the second string defines a variable name/position. There can be any number of variables in $second which need to be extracted from $first. Segments are separated by a '/'. Thanks.

And the goal is to create a universal installer that will be checking user's registry for specific apps installed and according to these apps would create a list of available installation components in "Select Components" window. And that's the particular problem I'm stacked with. I've already created the installer, but a user have to check/uncheck components he doesn't need because he doesn't use specific app. That is definitely not a good way of doing thing I guess... So I'm asking for help, please. Could this be implemented through "Select Components" window and how or I should create custom wizard page with checkboxes (again - How)? Many thx in advance.

    I am using wordpress and I am displaying my archives list in a sidebar using the function wp_get_archives('type=monthly'); I have posts from Feb 2005 to April 2010 but I want to display June 2009 onwards links. (i.e. june 2009, july 2009, ....april 2010). How do I prevent Feb 2005 - may 2005 from being displayed in the archives list. (Please don't suggest adding a limit i.e. wp_get_archives('type=daily&limit=15'); . That will not solve my problem)

    Is there any possible way to add a row of data to only some of the tables in a database? I am not sure what parameter I could use amongst the tables to compare them to each other. Any Ideas? For Example: My database has tables that are (let's say) group A tables, and tables that are group B. I want to add a row to only the group B tables while leaving the group A tables untouched. Sorry I should have been a bit more specific. The tables that need to have a row added will change. My application monitors inventory in different store locations(each table in my database represents a store). When I need to add an item to inventory(the items are rows in the tables) I don't want to have to manually add the row to all the store tables. My problem is: Not all the tables in the database represent stores. For instance one table stores the user login data. Obviously I do not want to add the new row to this table. How do I update only the tables that represent stores?
