  • Win32 select/poll/eof/ANYTHING!?!?!

    - by Andrew
Using the standard Win32 file I/O API's (CreateFile/ReadFile/etc), I'm trying to wait for a file to become readable, or for an exception to occur on the file. If Windows had any decent POSIX support, I could just do: select(file_count, files_waiting_for_read, NULL, files_waiting_for_excpt, NULL, NULL); And select will return when there's anything interesting on some of the files. Windows doesn't support select or poll. Fine. I figured I could take the file and do something like: while(eof(file_descriptor)) { Sleep(100); } The above loop would exit when more data is available to be read. But nope, Windows doesn't have an equivalent of eof() either! I could possibly call ReadFile() on the file, and determine if it's at the eof that way. But, then I'd have to handle the reading at that point in time -- I'm hoping to simply be able to figure out that a file is readable, without actually reading it. What are my options?

  • Does this feature exist? Defining my own curly brackets in C#

    - by Carlos
You'll appreciate the following two syntactic sugars: lock(obj) { //Code } same as: Monitor.Enter(obj) try { //Code } finally { Monitor.Exit(obj) } and using(var adapt = new adapter()){ //Code2 } same as: var adapt= new adapter() try{ //Code2 } finally{ adapt.Dispose() } Clearly the first example in each case is more readable. Is there a way to define this kind of thing myself, either in the C# language, or in the IDE? The reason I ask is that there are many similar usages (of the long kind) that would benefit from this, eg. if you're using ReaderWriterLockSlim, you want something pretty similar.

  • CakePHP and jQuery - Unobtrusive actions

    - by fortysixandtwo
    I'm trying to make an unobtrusive action for deleting bookmarks in CakePHP. Allthough it's working just fine, I suspect there must be a better way to do this. Could someone please point me in the right direction? function delete($id = null) { $ok = $this->Bookmark->delete($id); if($this->RequestHandler->isAjax()) { $this->autoRender = false; $this->autoLayout = false; $response = array('status' => 0, 'message' => 'Could not delete bookmark'); if($ok) { $response = array('status' => 1, 'message' => 'Bookmark deleted'); } $this->header('Content-Type: application/json'); echo json_encode($response); exit(); } // Request isn't AJAX, redirect. $this->redirect(array('action' => 'index')); }

  • Python subprocess.Popen

    - by Albert
I have that code: #!/usr/bin/python -u localport = 9876 import sys, re, os from subprocess import * tun = Popen(["./newtunnel", "22", str(localport)], stdout=PIPE, stderr=STDOUT) print "** Started tunnel, waiting to be ready ..." for l in tun.stdout: sys.stdout.write(l) if re.search("Waiting for connection", l): print "** Ready for SSH !" break The "./newtunnel" will not exit, it will constantly output more and more data to stdout. However, that code will not give any output and just keeps waiting in the tun.stdout. When I kill the newtunnel process externally, it flushes all the data to tun.stdout. So it seems that I can't get any data from the tun.stdout while it is still running. Why is that? How can I get the information? Note that the default bufsize for Popen is 0 (unbuffered). I can also specify bufsize=0 but that doesn't change anything.

  • Using 'git pull' vs 'git checkout -f' for website deployment

    - by Michelle
I've found two common approaches to automatically deploying website updates using a bare remote repo. The first requires that the repo is cloned into the document root of the webserver and in the post-update hook a git pull is used. cd /srv/www/siteA/ || exit unset GIT_DIR git pull hub master The second approach adds a 'detached work tree' to the bare repository. The post-receive hook uses git checkout -f to replicate the repository's HEAD into the work directory which is the webservers document root i.e. GIT_WORK_TREE=/srv/www/siteA/ git checkout -f The first approach has the advantage that changes made in the websites working directory can be committed and pushed back to the bare repo (however files should not be updated on the live server). The second approach has the advantage that the git directory is not within the document root but this is easily solved using htaccess. Is one method objectively better than the other in terms of best practice? What other advantages and disadvantages am I missing?

  • I am trying to move a rectangle in Pygame using coordinates but won't work

    - by user1821449
    this is my code import pygame from pygame.locals import * import sys pygame.init() pygame.display.set_caption("*no current mission*") size = (1280, 750) screen = pygame.display.set_mode(size) clock = pygame.time.Clock() bg = pygame.image.load("bg1.png") guy = pygame.image.load("hero_stand.png") rect = guy.get_rect() x = 10 y = 10 while True: for event in pygame.event.get(): if event.type == pygame.QUIT: sys.exit() if event.type == KEYDOWN: _if event.key == K_RIGHT: x += 5 rect.move(x,y)_ rect.move(x,y) screen.blit(bg,(0,0)) screen.blit(guy, rect) pygame.display.flip() it is just a simple test to see if i can get a rectangle to move. Everything seems to work except the code I put in italic.

  • Is it safe to catch an access violation in this scenario?

    - by Eloff
I've read a lot, including here on SO that suggests this is a very bad idea in general and that the only thing you can do safely is exit the program. I'm not sure that this is true. This is for a pooling memory allocator that hands off large allocations to malloc. During pool_free() a pointer needs to be checked it it belongs to a pool or was allocated with malloc. By rounding the address down to the nearest 1MB boundary, I get a pointer to the beginning of a block of memory in the pool, or undefined if malloc was used. In the first case I can easily verify that the block of memory belongs to the pool, but, if it does not I will either fail this verification, or I will get an access violation (note that this is a read-only process). Could I not catch this with SEH (Windows) or handle the signal (POSIX) and simply treat it as a failed verification? (i.e. this is only possible if malloc was used, so pass the ptr to free())

  • ArrayList access

    - by Ricky McQuesten
So once again I have a question about this program. I want to store transactions that are made in an arraylist and then have an option in the case menu where I can print out those that are stored. I have been researching online and have been unable to find a solution to this, so is this possible and how would I go about doing this? I also want to attach a timestamp to each transaction as well. Here is the code I have so far. So my question is how would I add a timestamp to each withdrawal or deposit, and how would I store each transaction in array list? import java.util.*; public class BankAccount extends Money { //inheritence static String name; public static int acctNum; public static double balance, amount; BankAccount(String name, int accNo, double bal) { this.name = name; this.acctNum = accNo; this.balance = bal; } void display() { System.out.println("Your Name:" + name); System.out.println("Your Account Number:" + acctNum); System.out.println("Your Current Account Balance:" + Money.getBalance()); } void displayBalance() { System.out.println("Balance:" + balance); } } import java.util.Scanner; /** * * @author Ricky */ public class Money { public static int accountNumber; public static double balance; static double amount; static String name; public void setDeposit(double amount) { balance = balance + amount; if (amount < 0) { System.out.println("Invalid"); } } public double getDeposit() { return 1; } public void setBalance(double b) { balance = b; } public static double getBalance() { return balance; } public void setWithdraw(double amount) { if (balance < amount) { System.out.println("Not enough funds."); } else if(amount < 0) { System.out.println("Invalid"); } else { balance = balance - amount; } } public double getWithdraw() { return 1; } } import java.util.*; public class Client { public static void main(String args[]) { int n = 0; int count; String trans; ArrayList<String> transaction= new ArrayList<String>(n); Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in); System.out.println("Welcome to First National Bank"); System.out.println("Please enter your name: "); String cusName = input.nextLine(); System.out.println("You will now be assigned an account number."); Random randomGenerator = new Random(); int accNo = randomGenerator.nextInt(100000); //random number System.out.println("Your account number is: " + accNo); System.out.println("Please enter your initial account balance: "); Double balance = input.nextDouble(); BankAccount b1 = new BankAccount(cusName, accNo, balance); b1.setBalance(balance); int menu; /*System.out.println("Menu"); System.out.println("1. • Python: using a regular expression to match one line of HTML

    - by skylarking
This simple Python method I put together just checks to see if Tomcat is running on one of our servers. import urllib2 import re import sys def tomcat_check(): tomcat_status = urllib2.urlopen('http://10.1.1.20:7880') results = tomcat_status.read() pattern = re.compile('<body>Tomcat is running...</body>',re.M|re.DOTALL) q = pattern.search(results) if q == []: notify_us() else: print ("Tomcat appears to be running") sys.exit() If this line is not found : <body>Tomcat is running...</body> It calls : notify_us() Which uses SMTP to send an email message to myself and another admin that Tomcat is no longer runnning on the server... I have not used the re module in Python before...so I am assuming there is a better way to do this... I am also open to a more graceful solution with Beautiful Soup ... but haven't used that either.. Just trying to keep this as simple as possible...

  • TStringGrid with BOTH editing AND range selection?

    - by Kevin Killion
Question: Can anyone point to an article or code samples anywhere on how to provide BOTH editing AND range selection in a TStringGrid? Yes, I KNOW there are third-party grids that do this, but it's frustrating that the built-in grid lacks this basic capability. Background: It's pretty normal to expect to be able to both edit a cell in a grid, and also to select a range of cells such as for a Copy operation. As delivered, TStringGrid doesn't do that. It's either/or. In fact, the docs tell us about the grid Options, "When goEditing is included in Options, goRangeSelect has no effect". However, it looks like it may be possible to do editing and rangeselects in a TStringGrid anyway!!! Through careful use of the mousedown, mouseup, selectcell and exit events, you can get dang close by switching editing elements on and off at the right times. But I still don't have it perfect, and that only covers mouse use, not keyboard changes.

  • Initiate a PHP class where class name is a variable

    - by ed209
I need some help with an error I have not encountered before and can't seem to find anywhere. In a PHP mvc framework (just from a tutorial) I have the following: // Initiate the class $className = 'Controller_' . ucfirst($controller); if (class_exists($className)) { $controller = new $className($this->registry); } $className is showing the correct class name (case is also correct). But when I run it I get this in the apache error log (no php error) [Wed Mar 31 10:34:12 2010] [notice] child pid 987 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) Process id is different on every call. I am running PHP 5.3.0 on os x 10.6. This site seems to work on 5.2.11 on another Mac. Not really sure where to go next to debug it. I guess it could be an apache setting as much as a php bug or a problem with the code... any suggestions on where to look next?

  • What is "sentry object" in C++?

    - by Romain Hippeau
I answered this question, and Potatoswatter answered too as The modern C++ equivalent would be a sentry object: construct it at the beginning of a function, with its constructor implementing call(), and upon return (or abnormal exit), its destructor implements I am not familiar with using sentry objects in C++. I thought they were limited to input and output streams. Could somebody explain to me about C++ sentry objects as well as how to use them as an around interceptor for one or more methods in a class ? i.e. How to do this ? Sentry objects are very similar indeed. On the one hand they require explicit instantiation (and being passed this) but on the other hand you can add to them so that they check not only the invariants of the class but some pre/post conditions for the function at hand.

The psycopg2 documentation was not helpful.

  • How to verify a signature using M2Crypto 0.16

    - by Daniel Mccain
After some goggling I found some usual answers for this question, like: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/595114/how-to-load-an-rsa-key-from-a-pem-file-and-use-it-in-python-crypto some code: x509 = X509.load_cert_string(certificate) pubkey = x509.get_pubkey() pubkey.reset_context(md=sha1) pubkey.verify_init() pubkey.verify_update(content) decoded_signature = signature.decode('base64') if pubkey.verify_final(decoded_signature)==0: print 'error' sys.exit(1) and the code presented above works fine in M2Crypto 0.20. But I need to do exactly the same think using the M2Crypto 0.16 (the official package in RHEL5), and I have problems using the pubkey.verify_final method because in this particular version the signature parameter doesn't exist. So how can I do it? using the M2Crypto 0.16 Thanks.

  • datetime command line argument in python 2.4

    - by Ike Walker
I want to pass a datetime value into my python script on the command line. My first idea was to use optparse and pass the value in as a string, then use datetime.strptime to convert it to a datetime. This works fine on my machine (python 2.6), but I also need to run this script on machines that are running python 2.4, which doesn't have datetime.strptime. How can I pass the datetime value to the script in python 2.4? Here's the code I'm using in 2.6: parser = optparse.OptionParser() parser.add_option("-m", "--max_timestamp", dest="max_timestamp", help="only aggregate items older than MAX_TIMESTAMP", metavar="MAX_TIMESTAMP(YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MM)") options, args = parser.parse_args() if options.max_timestamp: # Try parsing the date argument try: max_timestamp = datetime.datetime.strptime(options.max_timestamp, "%Y-%m-%d %H:%M") except: print "Error parsing date input:",sys.exc_info() sys.exit(1)

  • How to Store Cookies in Ruby?

This is my first time dealing with Cookies. I can put in the header of the next request, but what's the recommended way to store that? I'm testing this with irb in the console and when I exit and try again, the cookie is gone. How do I save it for a few days/weeks? I'm using pure ruby without Rails or anything. Thanks so much.
