• Storing a value in Memory Independent of Process

  Hi, I need a way to store a value somewhere for temporarily by say Process A. Process A can exit the after storing the value in memory. After sometime Process B comes accesses the same location of memory and read the value. I need to store in memory, because I dont want the data to persistent across reboots. But as long as the system is up, it Independent of the Process the data must be accessible. I tried MailSlots and Temporary files in windows, both seem to have problem where the process reference count drops to zero , the entities dont persist in memory. What is a suitable mechanism for this in Windows preferably using Win32 API? Ganesh

• Tomcat fails on first request in combination with jsvc

  I have a web application where the first request may take a few seconds as some singletons are initialised. I've used the mod_proxy and jsvc construction mentioned in this question and described on this page to connect apache with tomcat (data is served via SSL) For the sample Tomcat application, everything works as it should.   I'm trying to execute a program (convert from ImageMagick, to be specific) whose parent folder exists on the path. Ergo, when I run convert from the command line, it runs the command. The following, however, fails: String command = "convert" CommandLine commandLine = CommandLine.parse(command); commandLine.addArgument(...) ... int exitValue = executor.execute(commandLine); If I specify the full path of the convert executable (C:\Program files\...) then this code works. If I don't do this, I get an exception thrown with exit value 4. How do I get commons-exec to recognize the system path?

• How to make full-screened MacOSX bundle killable?

  Exposition: I am writing an GLFW app on MacOSX. The app is a Mac bundle. I want my app to run in fullscreen mode (easy, use GLFW_FULLSCREEN). Problem is .. my code is still buggy, and I do not know how to kill a full-screened app that infinite loops (i.e. if the exit(0); is not called in the program; I don't know how to force kill it). Question is: how can I set up a MacOSX Glfw Bundle so taht I can force-kill it when it infinite loops? Thanks!

  So once again I have a question about this program. I want to store transactions that are made in an arraylist and then have an option in the case menu where I can print out those that are stored. I have been researching online and have been unable to find a solution to this, so is this possible and how would I go about doing this? I also want to attach a timestamp to each transaction as well. • Python ValueError: not allowed to raise maximum limit

  I'm using python 2.7.2 on mac os 10.7.3 I'm doing a recursive algorithm in python with more than 50 000 recursion levels. I tried to increase the maximum recursion level to 1 000 000 but my python shell still exit after 18 000 recursion levels. • Instant Messenger: How does gtalk/yahoo messenger populate the contact list?

  Hi All, We are currently working on a small IM project which pretty much works like gtalk and yahoo messenger. We came across a problem that puzzled us how gtalk/ym populate their contact lists. Given that the user has let's say more or less 500 contacts, both IMs seem to readily load the contacts pretty fast and already sorted. Here are my questions(referring to either): Does it cache its contacts, like saving it in a file somewhere upon exit so that upon log-in it readily extracts the contacts and displays it in its contact list? Does it always request for the VCARDS upon log in? OR they have a VCARD push or whatever that simply updates the contacts' profiles (like that of their status [presence push - available, busy, etc...] )?

• msvsmon is locking up my pdbs

  During developement of my media center plugin (which has a few custom build steps to gac stuff and such) msvsmon has a rather annoying behaviour. First compilation usually goes well, but subsequent compilations complain about myplugin.pdb being locked Error 1 Unexpected error creating debug information file 'C:\Users\sam\source\myfile.PDB' -- 'C:\Users\sam\source\obj\Debug\myfile.pdb: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. If I exit VS and nuke the object directory, I am able to compile again. Also, if I kill off msvsmon.exe I am able to compile again (but can not debug) Has anyone seen this error? Are there any workarounds? I already disabled live semantic errors, just in case.

• Transportation Web App - utilizing google or bing map api

  I am working on a transportation web app and I am having a bit of a problem. First, I want to be able to define a shipping corridor, say like I-95 between Baltimore MD and Richmond VA. And store what parameters I need to define this route. Users will then use a web interface and can select various routes, in this case, I-95. Vendors will be posting constantly changing pickup locations in the application database which have a shelf life of about 2 days. Some of these locations maybe along this route. I am storing the LAT and LONG for the specific location right now. If any of these points ARE along or within 2 mile of the route (just off the highway basically - the ideal check would based on an actual highway exit but at this point anything would work), I want them to show up in my search results. Any ideas or suggestions?

  I'm having difficulty using reinterpret_cast. Before I show you my code I'll let you know what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to get a filename from a vector full of data being used by a MIPS I processor I designed. Basically what I do is compile a binary from a test program for my processor, dump all the hex's from the binary into a vector in my c++ program, convert all of those hex's to decimal integers and store them in a DataMemory vector which is the data memory unit for my processor. I also have instruction memory. So When my processor runs a SYSCALL instruction such as "Open File" my C++ operating system emulator receives a pointer to the beginning of the filename in my data memory. So keep in mind that data memory is full of ints, strings, globals, locals, all sorts of stuff. When I'm told where the filename starts I do the following: Convert the whole decimal integer element that is being pointed to to its ASCII character representation, and then search from left to right to see if the string terminates, if not then just load each character consecutively into a "filename" string. Do this until termination of the string in memory and then store filename in a table. My difficulty is generating filename from my memory.   You'll appreciate the following two syntactic sugars: lock(obj) { //Code } same as: Monitor.Enter(obj) try { //Code } finally { Monitor.Exit(obj) } and using(var adapt = new adapter()){ //Code2 } same as: var adapt= new adapter() try{ //Code2 } finally{ adapt.Dispose() } Clearly the first example in each case is more readable. Is there a way to define this kind of thing myself, either in the C# language, or in the IDE? The reason I ask is that there are many similar usages (of the long kind) that would benefit from this, eg. if you're using ReaderWriterLockSlim, you want something pretty similar.

• Detecting if Excel file has been closed

  Hi StackOverflow, I've spent the past 3 hours trawling the web for answers to no avail, so I hope you can help me. I'm writing an application which automates Excel. The application has an option to "show/hide the excel sheet" so you can look at it, make any final changes and so forth. Closing the application will naturally close the instance of Excel, however, there is a small chance that someone may exit out of Excel directly, without thinking. This breaks my application and I can't seem to find anyway of "checking if the same workbook is still open, and if not, re-opening it", before saving it I've tried all sorts of things: checking if the Excel Application is null (when it's !=null it will save correctly, but when it "is" null (or at least, something other than !=null it won't even hit the breakpoint so I'm completely lost :( Help please?
