• Populate an SQL Server 2k8 with Oracle Loader files

- by Techpriester
Hi folks. Here's the problem: I have a project that needs to be migrated to Microsoft SQL Server 2008. We have data in text files for the Oracle SQL Loader and now we need to get that data into the SQL Server DB. I could write a program that converts everything into INSERT statements but there has to be a more comfortable way to so this. Any suggestions? PS: I don't think my company wants to buy additional Software to do this job so that's out.

• delete all but minimal values, based on two columns in SQL Server table

- by sqlill
how to write a statement to accomplish the folowing? lets say a table has 2 columns (both are nvarchar) with the following data col1 10000_10000_10001_10002_10002_10002 col2 10____20____10____30____40_____50 I'd like to keep only the following data: col1 10000_10001_10002 col2 10____10____30 thus removing the duplicates based on the second column values (neither of the columns are primary keys), keeping only those records with the minimal value in the second column. how to accomplish this?

• How to handle input and parameter validation between layers?

- by developr
If I have a 3 layer web forms application that takes user input, I know I can validate that input using validation controls in the presentation layer. Should I also validate in the business and data layers as well to protect against SQL injection and also issues? What validations should go in each layer? Another example would be passing a ID to return a record. Should the data layer ensure that the id is valid or should that happen in BLL / UI?

• ntop to analyse bandwidth usage on multiple ASA 5505

- by dunxd
I have set up a netflow server at our data centre, which is connected via VPN to ~40 remote offices using Cisco ASA 5505. The aim is to analyse usage data and find out exactly how the remote connections are being used. I followed through http://techowto.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/ntop-guide.pdf to set up ntop and https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-6114 to set up the ASAs. I can see from the Plugin Netflow Statistics page that netflow packets from my ASAs are being received - the counter is increasing. However, I am not seeing any breakdown on the Global Traffic Statistic page after switching to the Netflow interface. I'm just seeing a pie chart showing 100% traffic for eth0. The interfaces and documentation are a little hard to follow so I am not sure I have got things configured correctly. When setting up my NetFlow-device.2 I can specify Virtual NetFlow Interface Network Address - the web UI says This value is in the form of a network address and mask on the network where the actual NetFlow probe is located. is this a Network address (e.g. 192.168.0.0/24) or an actual host IP address (192.167.0.1/24)? If that should be a network address, is this the network in which one of my ASAs is or the network in which my ntop server is? If a host IP address, is this the IP address used by eth0 on my ntop server, the IP address of an ASA, or something else? Do I need a separate virtual interface for each ASA I am collecting netflow data from? Any guidance would be greatly welcome.

• SQL Server cast fails with arithmetic overflow

- by Jamie Ide
According to the entry for decimal and numeric data types in SQL Server 2008 Books Online, precision is: p (precision) The maximum total number of decimal digits that can be stored, both to the left and to the right of the decimal point. The precision must be a value from 1 through the maximum precision of 38. The default precision is 18. However, the second select below fails with "Arithmetic overflow error converting int to data type numeric." SELECT CAST(123456789 as decimal(9,0)) SELECT CAST(123456789 as decimal(9,1))

• Caching generated QR Code

- by Michal K
I use zxing to encode a qr code and store it as a bitmap and then show it in ImageView. Since the image generation time is significant I'm planning to move it to a separate thread (AsyncTaskLoader will be fine I think). The problem is - it's an image and I know that to avoid memory leaks one should never store a strong reference to it in an Activity. So how would you do it? How to cache an image to survive config changes (phone rotation) and generally avoid generating it onCreate()? Just point me in the right direction, please.

• Is it possible to make web app proactive rather than reactive?

- by Ari B.
Web applications traditionally follow the request/response cycle, where a request is made by a user or another web app. However, I'm curious if it is possible to make a web app automatically initiate certain tasks upon it's deployment to a app server. For example, let's say we have a web app that retrieves and processes data. Is it possible to configure this app to automatically retrieve and process data when certain criteria are met, rather than needing a request from a user/another web app?

• Binding Source suspends itself when I don't want it to.

- by Scott Chamberlain
I have two data tables set up in a Master-Details configuration with a relation "Ticket_CallSegments" between them. I also have two Binding Sources and a Data Grid View configured like this (Init Code) // // dgvTickets // this.dgvTickets.AllowUserToAddRows = false; this.dgvTickets.AllowUserToDeleteRows = false; this.dgvTickets.AllowUserToResizeRows = false; this.dgvTickets.AutoGenerateColumns = false; this.dgvTickets.ColumnHeadersHeightSizeMode = System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewColumnHeadersHeightSizeMode.AutoSize; this.dgvTickets.Columns.AddRange(new System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewColumn[] { this.cREATEDATEDataGridViewTextBoxColumn, this.contactFullNameDataGridViewTextBoxColumn, this.pARTIALNOTEDataGridViewTextBoxColumn}); this.dgvTickets.DataSource = this.ticketsDataSetBindingSource; this.dgvTickets.Dock = System.Windows.Forms.DockStyle.Fill; this.dgvTickets.Location = new System.Drawing.Point(0, 0); this.dgvTickets.MultiSelect = false; this.dgvTickets.Name = "dgvTickets"; this.dgvTickets.ReadOnly = true; this.dgvTickets.RowHeadersVisible = false; this.dgvTickets.SelectionMode = System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewSelectionMode.FullRowSelect; this.dgvTickets.Size = new System.Drawing.Size(359, 600); this.dgvTickets.TabIndex = 0; // // ticketsDataSetBindingSource // this.ticketsDataSetBindingSource.DataMember = "Ticket"; this.ticketsDataSetBindingSource.DataSource = this.ticketsDataSet; this.ticketsDataSetBindingSource.CurrentChanged += new System.EventHandler(this.ticketsDataSetBindingSource_CurrentChanged); // // callSegementBindingSource // this.callSegementBindingSource.DataMember = "Ticket_CallSegments"; this.callSegementBindingSource.DataSource = this.ticketsDataSetBindingSource; this.callSegementBindingSource.Sort = "CreateDate"; //Function to update a rich text box. private void ticketsDataSetBindingSource_CurrentChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); rtbTickets.Clear(); foreach (DataRowView drv in callSegementBindingSource) { TicketsDataSet.CallSegmentsRow row = (TicketsDataSet.CallSegmentsRow)drv.Row; sb.AppendLine("**********************************"); sb.AppendLine(String.Format("CreateDate: {1}, Created by: {0}", row.USERNAME, row.CREATEDATE)); sb.AppendLine("**********************************"); rtbTickets.SelectionFont = new Font("Arial", (float)11, FontStyle.Bold); rtbTickets.SelectedText = sb.ToString(); rtbTickets.SelectionFont = new Font("Arial", (float)11, FontStyle.Regular); rtbTickets.SelectedText = row.NOTES + "\n\n"; } } However when ticketsDataSetBindingSource_CurrentChanged gets called when I select a new row in my Data Grid View callSegementBindingSource.IsBindingSuspended is set to true and my text box does not update correctly (it seems to always pull from the same row in CallSegments). Can anyone see what I am doing wrong or tell me how to unsuspend the binding so it will pull the correct data?

• How to backup a NAS drive to a USB drive?

- by Tim Murphy
How would you backup 600+ GB of data on a NAS (Network-Attached Storage) drive to a USB external drive? The NAS drive does not contain mission critical data nonetheless I wish to make weekly copies of it just in case. The NAS drive is almost exclusively used as an archive dump and is rarely updated. However the backup strategy used must have a simple restore procedure so I can confidently say the data now on the NAS drive is exactly how it was at the time of backup. I did try xcopy but seemed like it would take many-many hours and eventually crashed with insufficient memory. http://www.ctunion.com/node/114 suggests I would need to use xxcopy instead due to folder/file name lengths. My concern with xcopy/xxcopy is the length of time it takes. Hoping something else is faster. NAS drive is DLink DNS-313. 1TB drive installed. Connected to router via Ethernet cable. USB drive is Seagate 1TB. Can be connected to Windows Vista (preferred) or Windows 7 PCs. Both PCs are usually connected Wirelessly however ethernet cable can be used during backup to speed up the process.

• internet-based sync software that will keep running after Windows Live Sync stops doing PC-to-PC-syncs?

- by Warren P
According to the wikipedia page, Microsoft Live Sync will shortly stop offering the PC-to-PC sync service. There are lots of apps to sync two PCs on the same LAN, but I want to sync two PCs that are in different cities, across the internet, traversing two different NATs, and that requires some kind of service running in the internet that both connect into. There is already a few questions about syncing folders and files, but this is not a duplicate because none of them answer this basic question: Microsoft Live Sync works better than RSYNC, or any of the linked SYNC solutions in any of the "not really duplicates" because it works even when the two PCs have NAT and firewalls between them that forbid direct connectivity, because Windows Live Sync has a free always-on internet server that all the client PCs connect into. I'm looking for a FREE (no-fees) Microsoft Live Sync work-alike PC-to-PC sync solution that works between PCs and Macs, at least, as well as between PCs, and works behind NAT and firewalls at least as well as Microsoft's solution. (Note that Microsoft's solution makes only outbound socket calls to a microsoft server, so this solution must necessarily include a server-hub component that is hosted publically on a free site and which does not require that I set up and manage and pay for my own public internet hosting site) Hint: None of the answers in the linked duplicate are equivalent (PureSync,FreeFileSync,BestSync 2010,SyncButler,Comodo BackUp,QuickShadow,Gbridge) in that none of them work for the PC to Mac situation, where firewalls and nats prevent direct connection, or else they require money to be paid. When Microsoft Live Sync / Live Mesh finally kills direct PC-to-PC mode, the limitation will be that you will have to pay for more than 25 GB of cloud service, and you can then only sync PC #1 to PC #2 if you first sync to the cloud, then down to other clients. I can currently sync 100 gb of data from one computer to another, only temporarily "moving the data" through Microsoft's data servers without using up my Skydrive storage quota.

• enclosing double quotes in array

- by Jared
Hi all I might be looking at this the wrong way, but I have a form that does its thing (sends emails etc etc) but I also put in some code to make a simple flatfile csv log with some of the user entered details. If a user accidentally puts in for instance 'himynameis","bob' this would either break the csv row (because the quotes weren't encapsulated) or if I use htmlspecialchars() and stripslashes() on the data, I end up with a ugly data value of 'himynameis","bob'. My question is, how can I handle the incoming data to cater for '"' being put in the form without breaking my csv file? this is my code for creating the csv log file. @$name = htmlspecialchars(trim($_POST['name'])); @$emailCheck = htmlspecialchars(trim($_POST['email'])); @$title = htmlspecialchars(trim($_POST['title'])); @$phone = htmlspecialchars(trim($_POST['phone'])); function logFile($logText) { $path = 'D:\logs'; $filename = '\Log-' . date('Ym', time()) . '.csv'; $file = $path . $filename; if(!file_exists($file)) { $logHeader = array('Date', 'IP_Address', 'Title', 'Name', 'Customer_Email', 'Customer_Phone', 'file'); $fp = fopen($file, 'a'); fputcsv($fp, $line); } $fp = fopen($file, 'a'); foreach ($logText as $record) { fputcsv($fp, $record); } } //Log submission to file $date = date("Y/m/d H:i:s"); $clientIp = getIpAddress(); //get clients IP address $nameLog = stripslashes($name); $titleLog = stripslashes($title); if($_FILES['uploadedfile']['error'] == 4) $filename = "No file attached."; //check if file uploaded and return $logText = array(array("$date", "$clientIp", "$titleLog", "$nameLog", "$emailCheck", "$phone", "$filename")); logFile($logText); //write form details to log Here is a sample of the incoming array data: Array ( [0] => Array ( [0] => 2010/05/17 10:22:27 [1] => xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx [2] => title [3] => """"himynameis","bob" [4] => [email protected] [5] => 346346 [6] => No file attached. ) ) TIA Jared

• Memory layout of executable

- by Ross
Hi all, When loading an executable then segments like the code, data, bss and so on need to be placed in memory. I am just wondering, if someone could tell me where on a standard x86 for example the libc library is placed. Is that at the top or bottom of memory. My guess is at the bottom, close to the application code, ie., that would look something like this here: --------- 0x1000 Stack | V ^ | Heap ---------- Data + BSS ---------- App Code ---------- libc ---------- 0x0000 Thanks a lot, Ross

• gpg symmetric encryption using pipes

- by Thomas
I'm trying to generate keys to lock my drive (using DM-Crypt with LUKS) by pulling data from /dev/random and then encrypting that using GPG. In the guide I'm using, it suggests using the following command: dd if=/dev/random count=1 | gpg --symmetric -a >./[drive]_key.gpg If you do it without a pipe, and feed it a file, it will pop up an (n?)curses prompt for you to type in a password. However when I pipe in the data, it repeats the following message four times and sits there frozen: pinentry-curses: no LC_CTYPE known assuming UTF-8 It also says can't connect to '/root/.gnupg/S.gpg-agent': File or directory doesn't exist, however I am assuming that this doesn't have anything to do with it, since it shows up even when the input is from a file. So I guess my question boils down to this: is there a way to force gpg to accept the passphrase from the command line, or in some other way get this to work, or will I have to write the data from /dev/random to a temporary file, and then encrypt that file? (Which as far as I know should be alright due to the fact that I'm doing this on the LiveCD and haven't yet created the swap, so there should be no way for it to be written to disk.)

• Hyphen encoding (minus) in Google Base RSS feed

- by pmells
I am trying to create an automatic feed generation for data to be sent to Google Base using utf-8 encoding. However I am getting errors whenever hyphens are found telling me that there is an encoding error in the relevant attribute (title, description, product_type). I am currently using: − but I have also tried: − neither of which have worked. I am using the following declaration at the top of the document: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> Any help appreciated and let me know if I need to give more information!

• What is an efficient method for partitioning and aggregating intervals from timestamped rows in a da

- by mattrepl
From a data frame with timestamped rows (strptime results), what is the best method for aggregating statistics for intervals? Intervals could be an hour, a day, etc. I've found the aggregate function, but that doesn't help with assigning each row to an interval. I'm planning on adding a column to the data frame that denotes interval and using that with aggregate, but if there's a better solution it'd be great to hear it. Thanks for any pointers!

• Connected host failed to respond (internal NAT address)

- by MostRandom
I'm writing my first C# web application that connects to an XML based service. It requires that I present a certificate and feed the XML stream. It seems to authenticate properly but then it gives the following error: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 10.1.10.4:3128 The funny thing is that I'm not on a proxy or anything like that. I'm connecting directly to the internet. At one point I we did use a proxy that with internal NAT address. So my question is: Does Visual Studio have some sort of default proxy setting that I need to change? This IP is no longer used for anything, so I know that I don't need to use any proxy authentication code. using System; using System.Data; using System.Configuration; using System.Collections; using System.Web; using System.Net; using System.Security.Cryptography.X509Certificates; using System.Web.Security; using System.Web.UI; using System.Web.UI.WebControls; using System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts; using System.Web.UI.HtmlControls; namespace WebApplication1 { public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Uri requestURI = new Uri("*site omitted*"); //Create the Request Object HttpWebRequest pageRequest = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(requestURI); //After installing the cert on the server export a client cert to the working directory as Deluxe.cer string certFile = "*certificate omitted*"; X509Certificate cert = X509Certificate.CreateFromCertFile(certFile); //Pull in your Data, if it is from an external xml as below or create an xml string with variables if a dynamic post is required. string xmlPath = "*XML omitted*"; System.Xml.XmlDocument passXML = new System.Xml.XmlDocument(); passXML.Load(xmlPath); //XML String with the data needed to pass string postData = passXML.OuterXml; //Set the Request Object parameters pageRequest.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"; pageRequest.Method = "POST"; pageRequest.AllowWriteStreamBuffering = false; pageRequest.AllowAutoRedirect = false; pageRequest.ClientCertificates.Add(cert); postData = "xml_data=" + Server.UrlEncode(postData); pageRequest.ContentLength = postData.Length; //Create the Post Stream Object System.IO.StreamWriter postStream = new System.IO.StreamWriter(pageRequest.GetRequestStream()); //Write the data to the post stream postStream.Write(postData); postStream.Flush(); postStream.Close(); //Set the Response Object HttpWebResponse postResponse = (HttpWebResponse)pageRequest.GetResponse();

• Processing incorrect mac addresses from 802.11 frames with pcap

- by Quentin Swain
I'm working throurgh a project with pcap and wireless. Following an example posted in response to oe of my earlier questions I am trying to extract the mac addresses from wireless frames. I have created structures for the radiotap header and a basic management frame. For some reason when it comes to trying to output the mac addresses I am printing out the wrong data. When I compare to wireshark I don't see why the radio tap data is printing out correctly but the mac addresses are not. I don't see any additional padding in the hex dump that wireshark displays when i look at the packets and compare the packets that I have captured. I am somewhat famialar with c but not an expert so maybe I am not using the pointers and structures properly could someone help show me what I am doing wrong? Thanks, Quentin // main.c // MacSniffer // #include <pcap.h> #include <string.h> #include <stdlib.h> #define MAXBYTES2CAPTURE 65535 #ifdef WORDS_BIGENDIAN typedef struct frame_control { unsigned int subtype:4; /*frame subtype field*/ unsigned int protoVer:2; /*frame type field*/ unsigned int version:2; /*protocol version*/ unsigned int order:1; unsigned int protected:1; unsigned int moreDate:1; unsigned int power_management:1; unsigned int retry:1; unsigned int moreFrag:1; unsigned int fromDS:1; unsigned int toDS:1; }frame_control; struct ieee80211_radiotap_header{ u_int8_t it_version; u_int8_t it_pad; u_int16_t it_len; u_int32_t it_present; u_int64_t MAC_timestamp; u_int8_t flags; u_int8_t dataRate; u_int16_t channelfrequency; u_int16_t channFreq_pad; u_int16_t channelType; u_int16_t channType_pad; u_int8_t ssiSignal; u_int8_t ssiNoise; u_int8_t antenna; }; #else typedef struct frame_control { unsigned int protoVer:2; /* protocol version*/ unsigned int type:2; /*frame type field (Management,Control,Data)*/ unsigned int subtype:4; /* frame subtype*/ unsigned int toDS:1; /* frame coming from Distribution system */ unsigned int fromDS:1; /*frame coming from Distribution system */ unsigned int moreFrag:1; /* More fragments?*/ unsigned int retry:1; /*was this frame retransmitted*/ unsigned int powMgt:1; /*Power Management*/ unsigned int moreDate:1; /*More Date*/ unsigned int protectedData:1; /*Protected Data*/ unsigned int order:1; /*Order*/ }frame_control; struct ieee80211_radiotap_header{ u_int8_t it_version; u_int8_t it_pad; u_int16_t it_len; u_int32_t it_present; u_int64_t MAC_timestamp; u_int8_t flags; u_int8_t dataRate; u_int16_t channelfrequency; u_int16_t channelType; int ssiSignal:8; int ssiNoise:8; }; #endif struct wi_frame { u_int16_t fc; u_int16_t wi_duration; u_int8_t wi_add1[6]; u_int8_t wi_add2[6]; u_int8_t wi_add3[6]; u_int16_t wi_sequenceControl; // u_int8_t wi_add4[6]; //unsigned int qosControl:2; //unsigned int frameBody[23124]; }; void processPacket(u_char *arg, const struct pcap_pkthdr* pkthdr, const u_char* packet) { int i= 0, *counter = (int *) arg; struct ieee80211_radiotap_header *rh =(struct ieee80211_radiotap_header *)packet; struct wi_frame *fr= (struct wi_frame *)(packet + rh->it_len); u_char *ptr; //printf("Frame Type: %d",fr->wi_fC->type); printf("Packet count: %d\n", ++(*counter)); printf("Received Packet Size: %d\n", pkthdr->len); if(rh->it_version != NULL) { printf("Radiotap Version: %d\n",rh->it_version); } if(rh->it_pad!=NULL) { printf("Radiotap Pad: %d\n",rh->it_pad); } if(rh->it_len != NULL) { printf("Radiotap Length: %d\n",rh->it_len); } if(rh->it_present != NULL) { printf("Radiotap Present: %c\n",rh->it_present); } if(rh->MAC_timestamp != NULL) { printf("Radiotap Timestamp: %u\n",rh->MAC_timestamp); } if(rh->dataRate != NULL) { printf("Radiotap Data Rate: %u\n",rh->dataRate); } if(rh->channelfrequency != NULL) { printf("Radiotap Channel Freq: %u\n",rh->channelfrequency); } if(rh->channelType != NULL) { printf("Radiotap Channel Type: %06x\n",rh->channelType); } if(rh->ssiSignal != NULL) { printf("Radiotap SSI signal: %d\n",rh->ssiSignal); } if(rh->ssiNoise != NULL) { printf("Radiotap SSI Noise: %d\n",rh->ssiNoise); } ptr = fr->wi_add1; int k= 6; printf("Destination Address:"); do{ printf("%s%X",(k==6)?"
