• "Error in the Site Data Web Service." when performing crawl

  Installed SharePoint Services v3 (SP2, october 2009 cumulative updates, Language Pack), attached to a content database I had previously (all works). Installed Search server 2008 Express (with language pack) on top of WSS and crawl does not work. However it works for newly created web application + database. Was playing around with accounts, permissions to try get it working. Currently I have WSS_Crawler account with such permissions: Office Search Server runs with WSS_Crawler account Config database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler Content database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler WSS_Crawler is owner of search database. Added WSS_Crawler to SQL server browser user group and administrator Yes, i'v given more permissions than needed, but it doesn't even work with that and i don't know if its permission problem or what. Crawl log says there is Error in the Site Data Web Service., nothing more. There were known issues with a similar error: Error in the Site Data Web Service. (Value does not fall within the expected range.), but this is not the case as thats an old issue and i hope it has been included in SP2... Logs are from olders to newest (descending order). They don't appear to be very helpful. • Blackberry Enterprise Server v5.x not forwarding mail to devices

  My BlackBerry enterprise server recently stopped forwarding messages to devices. In fact, the server claims that the last time it communicated with all the devices associated with it, was on Thursday night (2 nights ago.) The catch is this, the Exchange server is running properly (or as properly as Exchange can run :) ) The SQL server seems to be running properly. And the Blackberry Enterprise server seems to be running correctly. Other than the fact that the server has not communicated with my device since Thursday, and the fact that I am not getting messages, there is nothing wrong. How do I get these message to be forwarded to devices again? I have restarted the BES services int he order suggested by the BlackBerry folks

• Lync server 2010 Active Directory Preparation with a Windows Server 2003 DC

  I'm trying to install Lync server 2010 but i'm stuck for a while now with the "Active Directory Preparation" part of the Lync server 2010 installation. The "Prepare Schema" fails with the following error: "Step 1: Prepare Schema Run once per deployment. Extends the schema for Lync Server. Not Available: Failure occurred while attempting to check the schema state. Please ensure Active Directory is reachable." screenshot: https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=CB15F1A932B364BE&id=CB15F1A932B364BE%211742 The situation: 1 server with Windows Server 2003 (x86), which is the only Domain Controller (DC) 1 server with Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64) where Lync should be installed. First I have found that the DFL/FFL were not correct: On the DC (server2003) I have changed the Domain Functional Level to Windows Server 2003 and also the Forest Functional Level to Windows Server 2003. If I check these settings on the Server2008 with Active Directory Domains and Trusts, I see indeed that the DFL and FFL are being set to Windows Server 2003. If I check "Active Directory Users and Computers" and go to the directory Users and watch the properties from the Administrator User then it is also a Member of: Domain Admins Domain Users Enterprise Admins Schema Admins Group Policy Creator Owners The firewall on the server2008 is turned off, still nog working So now my question is: what should I do to make the Lync setup (Active Directory Preparation) work? (I would appreciate clear step-by-step suggestions to check.) Thanks in advance. Update 1: Now I've extended AD successfully on the 2003 DC, using this link: http://blogs.pointbridge.com/Blogs/sloan_jason/Pages/Post.aspx?_ID=2 but when I check the Active Directory Preparation again on the Lync install, it still gives me the same error as in the screenshot I've provided. Update 2: I found out that there is a log on "C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp\ with this: Get-CSDomainState Get Domain State Error: An error occurred: "Microsoft.Rtc.Management.ADConnect.NoSuitableServerFoundException" "No suitable domain controller was found in domain "OurDomain.LOCAL". • Will this force a reinitialize in Merge Replication Topology?

• SQL server agent job to execute SSIS package fails, package succeds if run manually

  I've got a SSIS package installed on a SQL server (SQL Server 2012). It's fairly simple and just fetches data from a remote data source and adds it into a local table. The remote connection string is using SQL server authentication, while the local connection is using Windows auth. The remote connection password is protected, and the package was imported setting the protection level to Rely on server storage and roles for access control. If I run the SSIS package manually, it works. If I run it from the command line using dtexec, it works. If I use runas to switch to the domain account that the SQL server agent is running under, and then run the package using dtexec, it works. If I create a SQL Agent job with a single step to run the package, it fails, providing very little detail as to what's going on. I'm guessing it's not able to get the password to log into the remote SQL server, because it fails very quickly. Also, if I tick 'log to table' and view the resulting file, I get the following: Description: ADO NET Source has failed to acquire the connection {0D8F2CD4-A763-4AEB-8B52-B8FAE0621ED3} with the following error message: "Login failed for user 'username'.". If I try to add the password in the connection string manually under data sources in the job step dialog, it refuses to save it, always seeming to remove the 'password' bit of the connection string. I thought that SQL server agent jobs always ran under the context of the account which the SQL server agent is running under. This account is a sysadmin on the local SQL server, and the package works using dtexec under that account, so why would it fail when trying to run as an agent job?

• Do I need to recreate statistics if I had to drop them to add a foreign key

  I have a database which had all it's foreign-key relationships dropped at some unknown time in the past (don't ask). I have an old copy of the database which isn't good to restore from, but the schema has the relationships. I'm working from that to create a script to restore the keys. In updating the tables, I've had to drop statistics from several tables. Do I need to manually recreate those, or can I just run the statistics update procedure when all the tables are updated?

• SQL Server backup and restore process

  Just wondering what backup processes you guys have. I am currently operating a weekly full database backup with daily differential backups. My understanding is that with such a set up, the difference between Full recovery mode and Simple recovery mode is that with Full recovery mode, I will be able to use the transaction logs to rollback my DB to a specific point in time having applied the latest differential backup. Assuming that in my scenario, the last differential backup serves as my last and ultimate 'save point', I don't see a need to rollback my DB even further back using the logs. This brings me to my question: Is there any additional benefits to be had using a Full recovery mode for my current backup process?

• Backing up Windows Server 2008 R2 to FTP server

  Hi, I'm looking for an inexpensive way of backing up my Windows 2008 R2 dedicated server to an FTP server. To be any useful, the software should also be able to restore the server by using a bootable CD and the backup set stored on the FTP server. So Windows server backup seems to be out of the question.
