  • How to find an specific key/value (property list)

    Hi, I'm learning cocoa/objective-c. Right now I'm dealing with key/value coding. After reading Aaron's book and other sources, I thought that I was able to left the simple examples and try a complex one... I'm trying read iTunes property list (iTunes Music Library.xml). I would like to retrieve the tracks held by an specific playlist. Probably everybody knows it, but bellow I put a piece of the xml: <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Major Version</key><integer>1</integer> ... <key>Playlists</key> <array> <dict> <key>Name</key><string>Library</string> ... <key>Playlist Items</key> <array> <dict> <key>Track ID</key><integer>10281</integer> </dict> ... </array> </dict> <dict> ... </dict> </array> </dict> </plist> As you can see, the playlists are stored as dictionaries inside an array, and the key that identifies it is inside it, not as a <key> preceding it. The problem is that I'm not able to figure out how to search for a key that is inside another one. With the following code I can find the the array in which the playlists are stored, but how to find an specific <dict>? NSDictionary *rootDict = [[NSDictionary alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:file]; NSArray *playlists = [rootDict objectForKey:@"Playlists"]; Here at Stackoverflow I found this post, but I'm not sure if iterate over the array and test it is a good idea.     I'm reading through a tutorial on using voice commands to control applications and, in an example of controlling rhythmbox, it suggests commands such as the following can be executed: rhythmbox-client --play rhythmbox-client --pause Why does this not simply open a new instance of the program, and how can I emulate the functionality in my own programs? For example, how could I pass a string to a particular instance of a program? Thanks

  • Can I update an Android provider.Settings.System value?

    I can read settings like this, for example: final String mytest = System.getString(this.getContentResolver(), System.AIRPLANE_MODE_ON); ...but can't seem to write to settings using putString, no matter what I've tried. Maybe it is the scope of this.getContentResolver()??? I'm a newbie, so who knows, maybe it can't be done, or it's just syntax? Currently the code is in the onCreate of an Activity class. Any insight is much appreciated.

  • Can I change an NSDictionaries key?

    I have an NSDictionary object that is populated by NSMutableStrings for its keys and objects. I have been able to change the key by changing the original NSMutableString with the setString: method. They key however remains the same regardless of the contents of the string used to set the key initially. My question is, is the key protected from being changed meaning it will always be the same unless I remove it and add another to the dictionary? Thanks.

  • can't connect Java client to C server.

    I have a very simple server written in C and an equally simple client written in Java. When I run them both on the same computer everything works, but when I try to run the server on computer A and the client on computer B, I get the error IOException connection refused from the java client. I can't seem to find out whats happening, any thoughts? How would you have the wrapper take non-strings and pass them on to WriteLine()?

    I've seen these questions but both involve methods that aren't available in the CellStyle Format value. I only want to show the hours and minutes portion (16:05); not the seconds as well (16:05:13). I tried forcing the seconds value to zero but still got something like 16:05:00. Short of using a kludge like providing a string or a DateTime (and only showing the hour/minutes part) is there any way I can get the formatting to do what I want.

    The following code does not give a warning with g++ 4.1.1 and -Wall. int octalStrToInt(const std::string& s) { return strtol(s.c_str(), 0, 8); } I was expecting a warning because strtol returns a long int but my function is only returning a plain int. Might other compilers emit a warning here? Should I cast the return value to int in this case as a good practice?
