• ADO.NET Data Services Entity Framework request error when property setter is internal

  I receive an error message when exposing an ADO.NET Data Service using an Entity Framework data model that contains an entity (called "Case") with an internal setter on a property. If I modify the setter to be public (using the entity designer), the data services works fine. I don’t need the entity "Case" exposed in the data service, so I tried to limit which entities are exposed using SetEntitySetAccessRule. This didn’t work, and service end point fails with the same error. public static void InitializeService(IDataServiceConfiguration config) { config.SetEntitySetAccessRule("User", EntitySetRights.AllRead); } The error message is reported in a browser when the .svc endpoint is called. It is very generic, and reads “Request Error. The server encountered an error processing the request. See server logs for more details.” Unfortunately, there are no entries in the System and Application event logs. I found this stackoverflow question that shows how to configure tracing on the service. After doing so, the following NullReferenceExceptoin error was reported in the trace log. Does anyone know how to avoid this exception when including an entity with an internal setter? • C++ Memory Allocation & Linked List Implementation

  I'm writing software to simulate the "first-fit" memory allocation schema. Basically, I allocate a large X megabyte chunk of memory and subdivide it into blocks when chunks are requested according to the schema. I'm using a linked list called "node" as a header for each block of memory (so that we can find the next block without tediously looping through every address value. head_ptr = (char*) malloc(total_size + sizeof(node)); if(head_ptr == NULL) return -1; // Malloc Error .. :-( node* head_node = new node; // Build block header head_node->next = NULL; head_node->previous = NULL; // Header points to next block (which doesn't exist yet) memset(head_ptr,head_node, sizeof(node)); ` But this last line returns: error: invalid conversion from 'node*' to 'int' I understand why this is invalid.. but how can I place my node into the pointer location of my newly allocated memory?

• C++ Linked List - Reading data from a file with a sentinel

  So I've done quite a bit of research on this and can't get my output to work correctly. I need to read in data from a file and have it stored into a Linked List. The while loop used should stop once it hits the $$$$$ sentinel. Then I am to display the data (by searching by ID Number[user input]) I am not that far yet I just want to properly display the data and get it read in for right now. My problem is when it displays the data is isn't stopping at the $$$$$ (even if I do "inFile.peek() != EOF and omit the $$$$$) I am still getting an extra garbage record. I know it has something to do with my while loop and how I am creating a new Node but I can't get it to work any other way. After i read from file the input data and create and object which at print looks just fine after a print. after i push_back() the 3-rd int variable get initializated to 0.   As an individual who does not use Internet Explorer as their primary browser, there is a great feature that you may never notice that allows you to easily copy files to and from a document library: the Open in Windows Explorer link. In browsers such as Chrome or Firefox this link may not appear. I know this isn’t a major groundbreaking feature, but it’s really easy to overlook and it’s worth knowing about, especially when you need to create a local copy of a full document library. In this quick blog we’ll go over how to access this feature in both SharePoint 2007 and 2010. First, make sure you are in Internet Explorer. These options may not show in other browsers. In SharePoint 2007, browse to the document library you would like to access then select Actions > Open with Windows Explorer. In SharePoint 2010, browse to the document library you would like to access then select Library Tools > Library > Open with Explorer from the ribbon.

• Security Issues When Creating Pages in SharePoint

  I was speaking (or rather IM'ing) with Ben Collins a while back and he came across an interesting problem that I wanted to document for the sake of posterity.  If you have a SharePoint user who has permissions to create a page in a page library, but that user is having security issues trying to actually make a page, then it the security issue may be related to their access rights on the master page gallery.  Users who create pages must have at least restricted read access to the master page gallery for page creation to succeed. That is one of the joys of working in SharePoint. if something doesn't show up there is usually a good but obscure reason for it, but SharePoint certainly won't tell you outright why it is.  All I have to say is that I'm glad he ran into that issue and not me.

• Overwhelmed by complex C#/ASP.NET project in Visual Studio 2008

  I have been hired as a junior programmer to work on projects that extend existing functionality in a very large, complex solution. The code base consists of C#, ASP.NET, jQuery, javascript, html and xml. I have some knowledge of all these in addition to fair knowledge of object-oriented programming and its fundamental concepts of inheritance, abstraction, polymorphism and encapsulation. I can follow code up through its base classes, interfaces, abstract classes and understand a large part of the code that I read while doing this. However, this solution is so humongous and so many things get tied together whenever I navigate through the code that I feel absolutely overwhelmed. I often find myself unable to fully follow everything that is going on with objects being serialized, large amounts of C# and javascript operating on the same pages and methods being called from template files that consist mainly of markup. I love learning about code, but trying to deal with this really stresses me out. Additionally, I do know that a significant amount of unit testing has been done but I know nothing about unit testing or how to utilize it. Any advice anyone could offer me regarding dealing with a large code base while using Visual Studio 2008 would be greatly appreciated. Are there tools that I can use to help get a handle on what is going on? Perhaps there are things even in Visual Studio that I am not aware of. How can I follow the code to low level functionality in order to get a better grasp of what is going on at a high level?

• WSS Fails Installing On Step 5 Of The SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard

  I've attempted to install WSS 3.0 with SP1 several times as both stand-alone and server farm with no luck on Windows Server 2008.  When I get to step 5 of Configuration wizard it begin installing and publishing services but on Step 5 I get the message "Failed To Register Sharepoint Services". The detail behind this message reads "An exception of type Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException was thrown". Then I Run the command psconfig -cmd configdb -create -database <whatever_unique_name> Click on Start / All Programs / Administrative Tools / SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard Should work now (it did with me). PS: This was done on a Virtual Machine (VMware)

• Handwritten linked list is segfaulting and I don't understand why

  Hi I was working on a bit of fun, making an interface to run gnuplot from within c++, and for some reason the my linked list implementation fails. The code below fails on the line plots-append(&plot). Stepping through the code I discovered that for some reason the destructor ~John() is called immediately after the constructor John(), and I cannot seem to figure out why. The code included below is a stripped down version operating only on Plot*. Originally I made the linked list as a template class. And it worked fine as ll<int and ll<char* but for some reason it fails as ll<Plot*. Could youp please help me figure out why it fails? and perhaps help me understand how to make it work? • Navbar List Items Not Showing in Internet Explorer 6
