    Hello. I have a dedicated server, and will be installing SQL Server. However, my hosting company said they can connect an external CD ROM drive and give me KVM over IP to install SQL Server. My question is, what is IPKVM, and how does it work? Do I need special hardware or software on my side to use it....or do I just connect via remote desktop? Also, why can't I remote into my server through remote desktop instead of using KVM over IP?

    Hello all, I am using the SQL Server PHP Driver, I think this question can be answered without knowing what this is. I have come across this many times, what does it mean by NAMES? Column names?: SET NAMES utf8 Is there a query similar to the above that will get my dates to be returned as a string? For some reason on my SQL Sever 2008 on Vista, this works: $connectionInfo = array('Database' => $dbname, 'ReturnDatesAsStrings' => true) But the above 'ReturnDatesAsStrings' does not work on my SQL Server 2005 on a windows server machine? I can't execute any queries after setting the above! Does SQL Server 2005 support ReturnDatesAsStrings? Is there some other parameter I can pass to do the same? Thanks all for any help EDIT I should of mentioned this but if there is a solution I am hoping for one that is in the form of a setting that can be set before any queries can be executed as I do not have control on what queries will be executed.

    The environment: SVN, Netbeans, Hudson SVN Project A: Builds a library file (foo.jar). The build file is under /dist, which is ignored for svn, the sourcecode is under svn control. SVN Project B: holds all library files. (other SVN projects get all their libraries from here via external svn) Question: I want to commit foo.jar from A into B. How to do that ? foo.jar cannot be added or committed because it is not under SVN control. Thanks for any hints ! (The question is independent from the IDE and CI Server)

    We have subversion setup with http access through apache at http ://svn.local/ This provides access through svn clients and the standard svn repository browser. We also have a separate repository browser installed at http ://svn-browser.local/ (fisheye in this case). Is it possible to change the subversion/apache server so that browser requests are redirected to the subversion browser, but requests from svn clients go to the subversion server? Essentially, I'd like to use a single URL to identify a resource in both svn clients and the svn browser and be able to copy the url from a svn client into a web browser to have the enhanced functionality provided by the browser.

  • How to use AD/GPO/Print Services to "push out" a new printer driver to replace a broken one? How did my server get a broken driver?

    Context: We have an AD/GPO-managed corporate network with a little over a hundred PCs running Windows 7 x64, and a few managed printers. Our Server2008R2 primary domain controller is configured as a print server for them all. Problem: After a recent windows update and restart (no printer driver updates were included) on the DC, a particular shared printer (Lexmark T650) has begin exhibiting some strange behavior. First, it prints a preceding and following blank page for almost every document, on jobs submitted by about half of client machines (no separator page is configured on the server or any of the clients I've seen). Second, whenever someone tries to access "Printing Preferences" on any client, they recieve the following error message (this happens everywhere, 100% of the time, and didn't happen before the update on the DC): Once they click "OK", the prefs screen appears (with no separator page selected) and everything seems fine. I'm not even sure if these two issues are related, but everyone seems affected by one or both of those issues. What I've Tried: I've been hesitant to un-deploy the problem printer, or remove it via GPO, as it's pretty heavily used. I've tried updating (via MS update and our internal WSUS server) client machines and the DC. No printer driver updates have appeared, and no number of updates or restarts on the server or the client seems to have achieved anything other than my boss getting grumpy that I'm bouncing the domain controller so often. I've tried deleting the drivers on the server, and re-installing them from the original source that has worked for the past year...no change. I've tried selecting "New Driver" for one of the shared printers on a client machine, running as domain admin, and pushed the latest driver found by MSupdate back up to the DC. This changed the version number of the driver recorded in the print server manager, but caused no change--on the client I pushed from, or on any other. The error still appears. Question: Why the heck is this happening? Obviously, I got a bad driver from somewhere, but how do I get rid of it? I don't know of any "roll back drivers" functionality for centrally managed print drivers like Windows offers for other devices. How would I a) get this issue resolved on a client, and b) push the fix to the other members of the domain?

    I'd like to host a personal database for about 500 people (1 database per person) on my web server. A person could possibly share their database with a friend or two. On my web server, I'd have some web services, perhaps for doing synchronization, and maybe even an ASP.NET Web Forms front end to the database. If I restart my IIS web server, would this likely cause database corruptions? Would this be expected to perform ok? If not Compact, should I instead use SQL Express and create a database in SQL Server for each of my 500 people?

    I am talking about windows authentication. I dont have access to the server adming rights but a dbadmin sent me screenshot where my user is not in the logins of the server. and also there is only one windows group called admin - databases which I am 100% sure my guy cannot be part of it. BUT... his username is in users of my db... How come user can appear in a db not having login on the server? P.S. in the logs it prints: Login failed for user 'xxxx'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors

  • Move SELECT to SQL Server side

    Hello all, I have an SQLCLR trigger. It contains a large and messy SELECT inside, with parts like: (CASE WHEN EXISTS(SELECT * FROM INSERTED I WHERE I.ID = R.ID) THEN '1' ELSE '0' END) AS IsUpdated -- Is selected row just added? as well as JOINs etc. I like to have the result as a single table with all included. Question 1. Can I move this SELECT to SQL Server side? If yes, how to do this? Saying "move", I mean to create a stored procedure or something else that can be executed before reading dataset in while cycle. The 2 following questions make sense only if answer is "yes". Why do I want to move SELECT? First off, I don't like mixing SQL with C# code. At second, I suppose that server-side queries run faster, since the server have more chances to cache them. Question 2. Am I right? Is it some sort of optimizing? Also, the SELECT contains constant strings, but they are localizable. For instance, WHERE R.Status = "Enabled" "Enabled" should be changed for French, German etc. So, I want to write 2 static methods -- OnCreate and OnDestroy -- then mark them as stored procedures. When registering/unregistering my assembly on server side, just call them respectively. In OnCreate format the SELECT string, replacing {0}, {1}... with required values from the assembly resources. Then I can localize resources only, not every script. Question 3. Is it good idea? Is there an existing attribute to mark methods to be executed by SQL Server automatically after (un)registartion an assembly? Regards,

    I want a copy of SQL Server transaction log file for "raw" analysis. What is the safest way to get a copy of that file without shutting down the database and disturbing the existing log/backups/backup schedules and just about everything. FYI, Its a SQL Server 2000 database server and I can see the log file (its about 4GB in size) and I cannot copy it as is; I get the "access denied" error when copying from explorer or command line.

  • alias not working on sql server 2008 r2

    I have several servers with SQL Server 2008 R2 instances on them, and alias doesn't work on any of them. Clients connect to these servers using TCP/IP without any problem, telnet works on IP/Port I use for my alias, the firewall exceptions are created, basically everything works fine, except when I create an alias, I can not connect through it to my server using either TCP/IP or named pipes (local or one of other servers). I've installed latest cumulative updates, which updates native client too (which I think is the source of problem) and I still have the problem. The stranger part is, if I create an alias on a server with sql server 2005 (native client 9), I can connect to my 2008 r2 instances. Any suggestions?

  • Blank desktop when logging into a Virtualized Windows 2008 Terminal Server?

    We have a Virtualized Terminal Server running Windows Server 2008. When the admin user logs in, everything is fine. When anyone else logs in, their desktop and start menu is blank (they have the taskbar, start button, and quick launch links though). If I go into Windows Explorer, I can see icons in their desktop folder (although the icon image is missing and it is just displaying the generic icon), but can't run any of them. If I login with a user that is part of the Administrator group in Active directory, I get the same behavior except I can launch the programs found in the Desktop Folder of Windows Explorer. I cannot drag these items out onto the desktop though - The cursor doesn't allow me to drop them. From Task Manager I can see that explorer.exe and dwm.exe are both running. The Authenticated Users and Interactive groups are both under the Users group, along with our network's Domain Users group. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it? Also, not sure if it's related but about 1 in every 3 logins just hangs at a completely blank blue screen (no start button, taskbar, or quick launch buttons) and needs to be disconnected / reset by an admin. Edit I just noticed that the desktop itself doesn't even respond to click events. It's almost like the entire desktop is missing. At first I thought it didn't respond to right-click events because of an AD policy, but then I noticed if you open the Start Menu and click the desktop, the start menu doesn't shut like it should

    I am working on a project which has a Desktop Application for MAC/COCOA, a native application for iPhone another native application in iPad. All the application do almost same thing. The applications are data driven applications. Every communication to server is made via a restful API developed in PHP. When a user logs in a lot of data is fetched from server. And to remain in sync with server pooling is done. As there are lot of data to pool it makes application slower and un-reliable. A possible solution that comes into my mind is to use Socket based server. My question is that will it reasonably improve the performance? And which technology (of sockets) will be good as a server side solution for data driven application? I have heard a lot about Node.js. Please give your suggestions.

    I am not very experienced with non-windows operating systems, so please if you can answer, consider me to be a complete newbie with this. I have a Ubuntu Server 12.04, I installed Wine on it so I could install some familiar programs with GUI on my Ubuntu. I installed Filezilla Server using Wine, that went fine, the server is running, but I cannot find the GUI anywhere. I know it is running because in the winefile, if I execute the filezille server.exe, it says it is already running. However I have not been able to configure anything on the filezilla server because I can't see it anywhere. What am I missing?

    Hi, I have the same problem as a previously solved question however, this solution did not help me. I have a SQL Server 2008 database with ASP.NET Forms Authentication, profiles and roles created and is functional on the development workstation. I can login using the created users without problem. I back up the database on the development computer and restore it on the production server. I xcopy the DLLs and ASP.NET files to the server. I make the necessary changes in the web.config, changing the SQL connection strings to point to the production server database and upload it. I've made sure to generate a machine key and it is the same on both the development web.config and the production web.config. And yet, when I try to login on the production server, the same user that I'm able to login successfully with on the development computer, fails on the production server. There is other content in the database, the schema generated by FluentNHibernate. This content is able to be queried successfully on both development and production servers. This is mind boggling, I believe I've verified everything, but obviously it is still not working and I must have missed something. Please, any ideas? Answer: I ran into a problem with similar symptoms at one point by forgetting to set the applicationName attribute in the web.config under the membership providers element. Users are associated to a specific application. Since I didn't set the applicationName, it defaulted to the application path (something like "/MyApplication"). When it was moved to production, the path changed (for example to "/WebSiteFolder/SomeSubFolder /MyApplication"), so the application name defaulted to the new production path and an association could not be made to the original user accounts that were set up in development. Could your issues possibly be the same as mine? I have this already in my web.config but still get the issue.   • Hosting a subversion working copy in an remote WebDAV folder

    This might be a bit awkward, but I'll try to explain what I am trying to achieve and what problems I encountered. First of all: whats this about? I am currently trying to set up a distributed working enviroment for developing a web page. My plan was to setup a SVN repository for version control, a live server where the actual live page ist hosted and a development server where I can work on the page. To ease things I intended to not have a local copy of the project on my disk, but to actually work directy on the files, that the development server hosts. For that I setup a WebDAV directory, under devserver.com/workspace, that actually mapped to files served under devserver.com/. So I could connect to devserver.com/workspace, change something and view the results live at devserver.com/. So far this worked perfectly. The next step was to create a SVN repository that would take care of my version control. I intended to be able to checkin to the reposiroty from my development server and at any time, with a small shell script, deploy any revision from the svn to the live server by checking out a copy of the revision into the live server directories. The second part, checking out into the live server, also worked perfectly. The first part though is where problems arose: My workstation is a Windows 7 machine. I connected to the WebDAV share using Windows built-in WebDAV support, which worked quite well. I can create, move, delete, edit, whatever files on my WebDAV share from my Windows machine perfectly. The next step was to checkout a working copy from the SVN (actually hosted at devserver.com/subversion/) into the WebDAV share. In the first try I used the Eclipse plugin subversive. The actual checkout worked fine and I can update and commit stuff to the repository, however, I cannot add any files to the ignore list. It always brings me an error. So I tried the same thing with a complete fresh repository using TortoiseSVN - and again it failed with the same errors. Here is what it says when trying to add files to svnignore: Some of selected resources were not added to ignore. svn: Cannot rename file '\\devserver.com@SSL\DavWWWRoot\workspace\.svn\tmp\dir-props.66fd8936-2701-0010-bb76-472f0b56a5d1.tmp' to '\\devserver.com@SSL\DavWWWRoot\workspace\.svn\tmp\dir-props' This is what apache2 tells me, when I try to add a file to svnignore: [Sun Mar 07 03:54:19 2010] [error] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] Negotiation: discovered file(s) matching request: /var/www/devserver.com/.svn/tmp/dir-props (None could be negotiated). [Sun Mar 07 03:54:31 2010] [error] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] (20)Not a directory: The URL contains extraneous path components. The resource could not be identified. [400, #0] Actually both messages are repeated several times. The first one occurs first and is repeated about 5 times and the second comes there after and is repeated propably more than 20 times. If I create a regular file, delete, rename or modify it none of those messages appear in my error.log While writing this question now I was able to add fils to svnignore using TortoiseSVN. However, after that, Eclipse would not let me commit anymore. The error that used to pop up when adding files to svnignore now also shows up while commiting. While searching the web I found some people having this same message appearing because they had files only different in upper- / lower-case naming. I checked my repository and did not find such files. I also read somewhere about people having troubles with WebDAV and file locking, because WebDAV's file locking capabilities seem to be very limited. At some stage I got errors telling me my repository was locked and thus the operations could not be completed. This error though did not appear anymore, since I setup a completely fresh repository and working copy. I would really appreciate any help anyone can provide me in fixing this problem!     Hello, I work on a very large project (10000+ versions) and sometimes it happened that I need to know who of the other users deleted some line in a file. Is there a way to do that that? I can do svn blame with revision number to check if a line exists in that revision, then see in which revision the line is gone and see who commited that revision, but that procedure is lame with that large project. Is there a smarter way to do that?
