• I asked a question about arrays before, but this one won't compile

  I asked about this array a little while ago, and I can't see what the problem is. Too tired. What have I done wrong? Basically, I am taking a string array and trying to check to see if it contains numbers or an x (ISBN number validation). I want to take the number from a given input (bookNum), check the input, and feed any valid input into a new array (book). At the line 'bookNum.charAt[j]==book[i]' I get the 'not a statement error'. What gives?   could someone explain to me why the following results in a Null pointer Exception? And how to set a value for bitarray[0]? BitSet[] bitarray; bitarray= new BitSet[10]; bitarray[0].set(1); Also, why something like this work and not result in a pointer exception?   Hi All, I am having a designation table with d_name as primary key which i am using in user table as foreign key reference .I am using hbm for mapping in designation hbm i have id defined as d_name mapped to database column .I am getting a error saying "integrity constraint violation(user_designation_fk) parent key not found. " Where am i going wrong /this error is coming while i am tring to add a user selecting a designation reading from designation table.

• Hibernate 1:M relationship ,row order, constant values table and concurrency

  table A and B need to have 1:M relationship a and b are added during application runtime, so A created, then say 4 B's created. Each B instance has to come in order, so that I could later extract them in the same order as I added them. The app will be a web-app running on Tomcat, so 10 instances may work simultaneously. So my question are: 1) How to preserve inserting order, so that I could extract B instances that A references in the same order as I persisted them. That's tricky, because we add to a Collection and then it gets saved (am I right?). So, it depends on how Hibernate saves it, what if it changes the order in what we added instances? I've seen something like LIST instead of SET when describing relationships, is that what I need? 2) How to add a 3-rd column to B so that I could differentiate the instances, something like SEX(M,F,U) in B table. Do I need a special table, or there's and easy way to describe constants in Hibernate. What do you recommend? 3) Talking about concurrency, what methods do you recommend to use? There should be no collisions in the db and as you see, there might easily be some if rows are not inserted (PK added) right where it is invoked without delays ?

• Join data from two Lists into one object

  I ran into following situation and I am wondering about best solution. Let's say I have List<Object1> and List<Object2>, these lists are result of two separated queries. Both of them have the same size and there is relationship 1:1 between elements in the lists based on ID. I know that best solution would be fetching data in one DB query but that's possible right now. So my question is, what is the best way to join these lists into let's say List<Object3>?

And if with JPA you can't do a batch update, what if I don't use transaction, and just use the following flow: em = emf.getEntityManager // do some query // make some data modification em.persist(..) // do some query // make some data modification em.persist(..) // do some query // make some data modification em.persist(..) ... em.close() How does this compare to batch update with regard to performance, and compare to a single transaction commit, measured by RPC calls to datastore server, CPU cycles per request, or so.   Hi, I was using Sonar to make my code cleaner, and it pointed that I'm using new Integer(1) instead of Integer.valueOf(1). Because it seems that valueOf does not instantiate a new object so is more memory-friendly. How can valueOf not instantiate a new object ? How does it work ? Is this true for all integers ? thanks.

If so, why?

• Can't access a property with <html:checkbox property="..."> when iterating a list

  Hi. In my Struts form I've got a list. In a JSP I iterate over it like this: <c:forEach items="${MyForm.auspraegungen}" var="auspraegung"> <tr> <td>${auspraegung.name}</td> <td>${auspraegung.forced}</td> <td>${auspraegung.cbx_uebernehmen}</td> <html:checkbox property="auspraegung.cbx_uebernehmen" /> </tr> </c:forEach> Now the <html:checkbox isn't working. I'm always getting the following error: Caused by: javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: No getter method for property auspraegung.cbx_uebernehmen of bean org.apache.struts.taglib.html.BEAN But actually there is a getter for this property in my form class. It's written like this: public Boolean getCbx_uebernehmen() { return cbx_uebernehmen; } When I remove the checkbox it's also possible to display the property as in the <td>-tag above so I don't know where the problem is. Maybe I'm accessing it in the wrong way?

  first example: i worked on a vb.net application for several months. the client paid, said thank you, and posted it on their website. their site is not functional and has not been functional for a while. another company asked me to develop a c# application for their biotech business. i worked on it for a year. they paid me, said thank you. the project was not finished but they just forgot about it. how often do you get a project, get paid for it, and then the client completely forgets about it? they dont ask for support, and they just leave it hanging. does this happen often?

  Here is my test: I access a servlet to get the JVM to load (absorb the loading request). Then i access a JSP that has <%= 5+7 %> in it and nothing else. The first access to this JSP uses 350ms of CPU time and has latency of 200ms. Subsequent accesses only have latency and cpu time of about 20ms. Why does the first access to the jsp after starting the servlet container take longer?
