  What do you call it when a web site (especially corporate/retail) has a series of rows with thumbnails, each with a little caption/description beneath explaining some benefit or feature of a product or service. Is there a name for this? I'm building a theme that incorporates this kind of design and I was hoping there is some kind of shorthand for this design feature. • Adding text labels to sliders in iPhone Settings application

  When configuring a Settings.bundle as part of an iPhone application bundle, it's trivial to add minimum and maximum value images to sliders (PSSliderSpecifier), but not simple maximum and minimum text labels. http://developer.apple.com/iPhone/library/documentation/PreferenceSettings/Conceptual/SettingsApplicationSchemaReference/Articles/PSSliderSpecifier.html iPhone gurus: Is anyone aware of a simple means to apply text labels to these sliders for use within the Settings application (therefore, no slider subclassing shenanigans; it all has to be done via a plist)? I suppose I could just use an image of the label but...ew. Bonus points if there's a way to show the current value of a slider in some sort of number format.

• jQuery: How to collect values from sliders into simple object with id as keys

  I have several jQuery UI Sliders and I want to collect their values. Thought it would be a simple task, but when I was going to do it I got stuck and not quite sure what to do anymore :p The object I would like to end up with should look something like this: { a: 80, b: 90, c: 20, ... } I can do it manually like this: var values = { a: $('#a').slider('value'), b: $('#b').slider('value'), c: $('#c').slider('value'), ... }; But that's a bit tedious, especially if I need to add or remove or rename. Was hoping I could do something with the map or each function or something like that, but I can't figure it out. Anyone have some clever ideas?

  Hello there, I have two questions: What's the best way to send sliders' values to a PHP page ? I'm associating each slider (several per page) with an hidden form so far, but I wonder if there's a "cleaner" way to do this. Related to the 1st question; I've some trouble with the script: var score = $(this).slider( "option", "value" ); $(this).closest("input[type=='hidden']").val(score); It doesn't set the value of the hidden input. Can somebody tells me what's wrong ? Thanks

• stuck on sliders with jquery

  I am building a portfolio page of different work that has been done and im using two different jquery sliding techniques, one nested in amongst the other one. The first slider works great but the second one doesnmt work that great for the first few and then doesnt work at all. • Gallery with different image width and numeration

• Capture data from jQuery Mobile GUI / form elements like sliders, or the flip switch/toggle, and store in a var?

  I have this code, which executes without error, it shows "** slider change **" in the debug console every time the slider changes. But I cannot figure out how to capture the value of the slider so I can store it in a var. • When do you use a circular slider/knob in a good user interface?

  As I am familiar with some synthesizers, I often user real life circular sliders (e.g. to control the master volume), also called knobs. Like this one: Sometimes I also find these controls in virtual applications (yes I like extreme minimalism =P): But most of them are irritating, confusing or just wrong, and simple sliders could be used instead, making the UI much better. What are the advantages of circular sliders like the one in the screenshot above? And when do you use them? Thanks

• jQuery UI Slider Problem

  I have been using jQuery sliders for about a week now without issues in my project, but I just hit an issue. I am adding 3 sliders to my page All 3 are added exact same way (like this): $('#slider_id').slider({value:100,'slide':function(e, ui){// some code}}); 2 work properly One does not work (it gives me a fiebug error 'f is undefined') when I drag the slider handle The only glaring difference I can see is that the one giving the error is inside of a jQuery UI dialog(). Interestingly, when I place it outside of the dialog, it works! So, wondering if there are known issues with sliders inside dialogs, and/or if there are any workarounds. Thanks

• debian (stable), google chrome, sencha and tranparency [closed]

  I am a bit unsure where to post this, but i guess it should be here, as it has to do with rendering in a browser. We have a sencha touch 1.1 application running in Google Chrome. On mij own computer (ubuntu) there are no problems. On the touch screen attached to a computer running debian-OS, transparency is shown as semi-transparent. It happens on sliders. Sliders have a button on them. This button is rendered bij sencha with CSS. It is NOT an image. Anyone has any idea how to get it 'nice' on debian too

• Saving/Associating slider values with a pop-up menu

  Hi, Following on from a question I posted yesterday about GUIs, I have another problem I've been working with. This question related to calculating the bending moment on a beam under different loading conditions. On the GUI I have developed so far, I have a number of sliders (which now work properly) and a pop-up menu which defines the load case. I would like to be able to select the load case from the pop-up menu and position the loads as appropriate, in order to define each load case in turn. The output that I need is an array defining the load case number (the rows) and a number of loading parameters (the itensity and position of the loads, which are controlled by the sliders). The problem I am having is that I can produce this array (of the size I need) and define the loading for one load case (by selecting the pop-up menu) using the sliders, but when I change the popup menu again, the array only keeps the loading for the load case selected by the pop-up menu. Can anyone suggest an approach I can take with (specifically to store the variables from each load case) or an example that illustrates a similar solution to the problem? The probem may be a bit vague, so please let me know if anything needs clearing up. Many Thanks, James

I can (1) display the part’s image, [self.view addSubview:thePartAsImageView]; (2) implement two sliders (one horizontal for part’s width and one vertical for part’s height), heightSlider.transform = CGAffineTransformRotate(heightSlider.transform, 270.0/180*M_PI); (3) display the corresponding values (dimensions) as the user moves the sliders, and even (4) draw the dimensioning lines with arrowheads: CGContextAddLineToPoint What I can’t do is (5) remove those lines after I’ve drawn them. What I want is “if userTouchedTheHorizontalControl then eraseTheLinesForTheVerticalControl.” If I understand correctly – first, that Quartz composites everything to a single layer, and second, that CALayer, GeekGameBoard and so on only work on Mac -- then I have to do something different. But isn’t there something I can do other than switch to Open GL?

• Self-expanding Widget, on mouse over

  I want to implement a widget (with some edit boxes and sliders) that would open beneath or next to a button ("Opener") when I hover it. The key is it's a temporary widget - as soon as it loses focus, I want it gone. Also, I want it to pop up right next to the Opener, ideally pointing an arrow to Opener. So, it's basically a tooltip. But it needs to be a widget with buttons and sliders and stuff like that. Is there a clever way to implement it without making a custom widget and writing handlers for all the mouse and focus events and recomputing its ideal position every time I open it or the Opener moves?

Among these controls would be 2 sliders, whose event handling is to be done in CFrameWnd derived class. • Improve Playback Using Enhancements in Windows Media Player 12

  Are you looking for ways to improve the playback of your media in Windows Media Player 12? We’ll show you how to do that by using the enhancements in WMP 12. If you are in Library mode, you’ll need to click the icon at the lower right to switch to Now Playing mode. Right-click anywhere in Media Player while in Now Playing mode, select Enhancements, and select any of the available options.   You can switch between the individual enhancements by clicking the right and left buttons at the top left.   Crossfading and Auto Volume Leveling The Auto Volume Leveling setting is just a simple toggle on and off. If your MP3 or WMA files have volume leveling information values.   You can automatically add volume leveling information values to all files you add to your library by switching to Library view, going to Tools > Options, and selecting Add volume leveling information values for new files on the Library tab. Click OK when finished.   Crossfading will gradually decrease the volume of the song that is ending (fade out) and increase volume of the song that is beginning. Click Turn on Crossfading and then click and drag the slider left or right change the amount of overlap between tracks. Graphic Equalizer The graphic equalizer is toggled on and off by clicking Turn on / Turn off at the top left. You can select pre-defined equalizer settings by music genre by clicking the Default list. The radio buttons on the left allow you to move the sliders individually, in a loose group or a tight group. You can always return to the default settings by clicking Reset. Play Speed Settings Choose a pre-defined settings by clicking Slow, Normal, or Fast. Quiet Mode Quiet mode will level out any sharp volume highs and lows within a single track. Video Settings Video Settings allow you to adjust the Hue, Brightness, Saturation, and Contrast.   You can also adjust the zoom settings by clicking Select video zoom settings.   Dolby Digital Settings Choose between Normal, Night, and Theater settings to adjust the audio for Dolby Digital content. • How can I bind multiple Jquery UI Slider with "year" Select?

  Hi, I'm trying to render sliders instead of select components. Each page has several select components marked with class='jqselect' and all of them will have decreasing year values (some years may be missing). Eg. a select may have values [2010, 2009, 2006, 2005, 2004]. I have tried binding it both following the examples in the jQuery UI doc (but ignoring the missing years) and using selectToUISlider by filamentgroup (http://www.filamentgroup.com/lab/update_jquery_ui_slider_from_a_select_element_now_with_aria_support//). None of them work. Here is what I've done so far: Binding selects with following slider container divs: $('#content div.jqslider').slider({ animate: true, min: $(this).prev().children().last().val(), max: $(this).prev().children().first().val(), slide: function(event, ui) { var select = $(this).prev(); select.val($(this).slider('option', 'value')); console.log($(this).slider('option', 'value')); //debug } }); This renders the slider, but console logs values from 0 to 100 and selects obviously does not change with the event. Using selectToUISlider: $('#content select.jqselect').selectToUISlider(); This does not even render the slider, throwing an error 'b is undefined' in jquery-min.js (line 30, v1.4.2). If I pass the identifier of only one of the sliders, it is rendered but very buggy. Please, I'm stucked in the by two days and any help is much appreciated. Regards, Arthur

• jQuery trigger function on change

  I have the following two slider functions which work well and display like so: I have diskAmount and transferAmount stored in global vars, however what I am now trying to figure out is how do I get the sum of the two to initially show as the monthly fee, and then update when either of the two sliders are changed. So in my screenshot above the initial state will be $24.75, and the fee will update if the sliders change. Can anyone point me in the right direction? • Sound settings are always reset when restarting Mac

  I have ideneb Mac OS X 10.5.7. I have installed vodooHDA.kext for sound because any other was not working. But whenever I restart my system sound settings are reset to default and I am unable to hear any sound. To hear sound I need to change some sliders in system configuration every time. Isn't there any permanent solution?

• Edit Media Center TV Recordings with Windows Live Movie Maker

  Have you ever wanted to take a TV program you’ve recorded in Media Center and remove the commercials or save clips of favorite scenes? Today we’ll take a look at editing WTV and DVR-MS files with Windows Live Movie Maker. Download and Install Windows Live Movie Maker. The download link can be found at the end of the article. WLMM is part of Windows Live Essentials, but you can choose to install only the applications you want. You’ll also want to be sure to uncheck any unwanted settings like settings Bing as default search provider or MSN as your browser home page.   Add your recorded TV file to WLMM by clicking the Add videos and photos button, or by dragging and dropping it onto the storyboard.   You’ll see your video displayed in the Preview window on the left and on the storyboard. Adjust the Zoom Time Scale slider at the lower right to change the level of detail displayed on the storyboard. You may want to start zoomed out and zoom in for more detailed edits.   Removing Commercials or Unwanted Sections Note: Changes and edits made in Windows Live Movie Maker do not change or effect the original video file. To accomplish this, we will makes cuts, or “splits,” and the beginning and end of the section we want to remove, and then we will delete that section from our project. Click and drag the slider bar along the the storyboard to scroll through the video. When you get to the end of a row in on the storyboard, drag the slider down to the beginning of the next row. We’ve found it easiest and most accurate to get close to the end of the commercial break and then use the Play button and the Previous Frame and Next Frame buttons underneath the Preview window to fine tune your cut point. When you find the right place to make your first cut, click the split button on the Edit tab on the ribbon. You will see your video “split” into two sections. Now, repeat the process of scrolling through the storyboard to find the end of the section you wish to cut. When you are at the proper point, click the Split button again.   Now we’ll delete that section by selecting it and pressing the Delete key, selecting remove on the Home tab, or by right clicking on the section and selecting Remove.   Trim Tool This tool allows you to select a portion of the video to keep while trimming away the rest.   Click and drag the sliders in the preview windows to select the area you want to keep. The area outside the sliders will be trimmed away. The area inside is the section that is kept in the movie. You can also adjust the Start and End points manually on the ribbon.   Delete any additional clips you don’t want in the final output. You can also accomplish this by using the Set start point and Set end point buttons. Clicking Set start point will eliminate everything before the start point. Set end point will eliminate everything after the end point. And you’re left with only the clip you want to keep.   Output your Video Select the icon at the top left, then select Save movie. All of these settings will output your movie as a WMV file, but file size and quality will vary by setting. The Burn to DVD option also outputs a WMV file, but then opens Windows DVD Maker and prompts you to create and burn a DVD.   Conclusion WLMM is one of the few applications that can edit WTV files, and it’s the only one we’re aware of that’s free. We should note only WTV and DVR-MS files will appear in the Recorded TV library in Media Center, so if you want to view your WMV output file in WMC you’ll need to add it to the Video or Movie library. • Touchpad too sensitive on Samsung Series 7

  I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my SAMSUNG Series 7 NP700Z5B-S01UB. The touchpad worked out of the box and that has been awesome. But the touch pad's tap to click is too sensitive. It keeps selecting things as I'm just trying to move the pointer. I didn't have this problem with windows so this tells me that it can be configured to be less sensitive. Need help doing this. PS: I know turning off tap to click is an option but I don't want that. PPS: I see various sensitivity sliders in the config but they seem to be at the lowest and mostly around acceleration of pointer not for tap sensitivity.

• JavaFX Makeover for JFugue Music NotePad

  Bengt-Erik Fröberg from Sweden, one of the developers working on ProSang, the leading Scandinavian blood bank system (and based on the NetBeans Platform), is reworking the user interface of the JFugue Music NotePad. In particular, the Score window (named ScoreFX window below) contains components that are now quite clearly JavaFX, instead of Swing. Looks a lot better and also performs better. The sliders in the Keyboard window are candidates for being similarly redone to use JavaFX instead of Swing. Want to do something similar?
