  • WCF: collection proxy type on client

    I have the following type in wsdl (it is generated by third party tool): <xsd:complexType name="IntArray"> <xsd:sequence> <xsd:element maxOccurs="unbounded" minOccurs="0" name="Elements" type="xsd:int" /> </xsd:sequence> </xsd:complexType> Sometimes Visual Studio generates: public class IntArray : System.Collections.Generic.List<int> {} And sometimes it doesn't generate any proxy type for this wsdl and just uses int[]. Collection type in Web Service configuration is System.Array. What could be the reason for such upredictable behavior? Edited: I found the way how I can reproduce this behavior. But not for IntArray.

  • what technologies or functionalites can be considered as innovative nowadays?

    For some unholy reasons (New Year maybe?) I was charged with listing all "innovative things" which my company is doing internally in IT. So, my first question is of course: what can be considered nowadays "innovative" in software, in terms of a/ technologies - like, lets say, cloud computing was 10 years ago or facial recognition 15 years ago b/ functionalities - ie. migration of desktop application to web (last decade) or using voice to control computer (last century) My personal focus is on web, but I am also curious of opinions from others domains.

  • Using JRuby/Jython for Ruby/Python interoperability?

    Quite-probably a silly question, as I don't know much about Java/Jython/JRuby/bytecode, but.. I stumbled across _why's unholy again today.. It allows you to output Python bytecode from Ruby code.. Basically allowing them to produce the same bytecode.. Jython outputs Java bytecode, as does JRuby.. Since these both compile to the same bytecode, does this mean you could potentially use any Python library from Ruby, and Ruby libraries from Python?

  • How to map a virtual desktop to a monitor in a multiple monitor setup?

    OS: Microsoft Windows Vista SP2, Microsoft Windows 7 My laptop is plugged to a docking station that supports dual monitors, which I use extensively. I have windows placed where I want them. All is well and predictable with this setup until I un-dock. The moment I un-dock all windows that I placed in the secondary monitor piles up in the primary monitor and it is an unholy mess. So, I am looking for a solution where if I use virtual desktops, one of them can be mapped to a monitor and when un-docked what was there in the secondary monitor stays in a virtual desktop. Do you folks know of a tool or workaround that can address my quandary?

  • What makes merging in DVCS easy?

    I read at Joel on Software: With distributed version control, the distributed part is actually not the most interesting part. The interesting part is that these systems think in terms of changes, not in terms of versions. and at HgInit: When we have to merge, Subversion tries to look at both revisions—my modified code, and your modified code—and it tries to guess how to smash them together in one big unholy mess. It usually fails, producing pages and pages of “merge conflicts” that aren’t really conflicts, simply places where Subversion failed to figure out what we did. By contrast, while we were working separately in Mercurial, Mercurial was busy keeping a series of changesets. And so, when we want to merge our code together, Mercurial actually has a whole lot more information: it knows what each of us changed and can reapply those changes, rather than just looking at the final product and trying to guess how to put it together. By looking at the SVN's repository folder, I have the impression that Subversion is maintaining each revisions as changeset. And from what I know, Hg is using both changeset and snapshot while Git is purely using snapshot to store the data. If my assumption is correct, then there must be other ways that make merging in DVCS easy. What are those?

  • JAR file: Could not find main class

    Okay, I have a strange problem. I wanted to run one of my programs as a .jar file, but when I open it by double-clicking it, I get an error message like "Could not find main class, program is shutting down". I'm pretty sure I did everything right, the jar should work afaik. I also tried other programs, it's the same with every single one. (I'm creating the .jar's through BlueJ) There is no problem when I run them through a .bat . And here comes the strangest thing of all: The .jar's have worked some time ago (one or two months I guess), and I don't remember doing anything different. It's the same BlueJ-Version. Okay, maybe Java updated and something got messed up... I googled, but I couldn't find a solution. (some people seem to have a similar problem, and it seems to be only them who can't run their .jar's; they uploaded them and other people say the .jar's run fine.) What could be the problem? How can I solve it? I'd really appreciate some help here. Thank you :) ApertureT3CH EDIT: okay guys, you're making me unsure here. Imma check the manifest again, at this unholy time ( 1:34 am ) :P EDIT2: This is my MANIFEST.MF Manifest-Version: 1.0 Class-Path: Main-Class: LocalChatClientGUI [empty line] [empty line] The Main class is correct. EDIT3: Thanks to hgrey: There is nothing wrong with the jar. I can run it from a bat file, which actually should not be different from double-clicking the jar, right? Yet I get the error when clicking it, and it works fine through the bat. EDIT4: I finally solved the problem. I re-installed the JRE and now it works, although I can't see any version differences.     I have this spreadsheet that started as a silly aid for a game (Mafia Wars 2), but grew into a tricky spreadsheet question. In the game your character have 9 "slots" for weapons and armors, 1 for each "type": Light Weapon, Heavy Weapon, Body Armor, Head Armor, etc. So I made a list of all weapons and armors available in the game, 1 item per row. Example: SHOP ITEM TYPE ITEM NAME ATK DEF PRICE EQUIPPED? What I need is a formula that, for each "slot" (item type), returns info related to the item of that kind that I am using. Each row for an item type. So, for 1st result line, it would return data from the row where both 2nd column is "Weapon Light" and last column is "x". Basically I need a LOOKUP (or VLOOKUP, or anything else) that uses 2 criteria to find a given row, the item type and the X marker. Question is: HOW? I am using OpenOffice Calc 3.2.1, but since it shares so many functions with MS Excel, answers for Excel are also fine (as long as it only uses regular formulas, no VBScript or Macros or VBA etc) Last but not least, suggestions / solutions for rearranging the data so it makes this problem easier to solve are also welcome.
